Dan kicks off the show with a real head scratcher. Was a man take by aliens of was he just a man who drank himself into mental illness and then left his family? You be the judge. We go to Cleveland, Ohio for a fun history lesson and then many small stories of the spirits that may still live in Franklin Castle. Then Lynze gives us a different kind of tale that explores Celtic folklore. A young couple is out enjoying a winter hike when they encounter a woman who is just not quite right. Was it a fae? Lastly, we all know imaginary friends can be the makings of a child's mind. But what if they are something more? Summer Camp 2025: The time has come!!! Museums are known for holding all sorts of important objects.  Some museums, however, hold something not usually visible… something of the spiritual realm.  These places are fertile grounds for folklore to take root. Such is the case with the United State Air Force Museum in Dayton, Ohio. Come hear the personal experiences of famed author of Ohio ghost tales, Ms. Chris Woodyard.  Her renowned 5-part series, Haunted Ohio, introduced many Ohioans to folktales which spring forth from our backyards.  In today's episode, she offers keen insights into the ghostly sightings at the largest military aviation museum in the world. Come hear the heart wrenching true tale of a group of men, who gave all they had in support of our freedom.  Many believe their spirits can still be found near parts of the wreckage of their WWII B-24D bomber. We owe all veterans and active military members a debt of service.  Let us remember their sacrifices as we approach Veterans Day on November 11. If you enjoy this episode, please rate, review and subscribe to Ohio Folklore on your chosen podcast platform.  You can also find Ohio Folklore at: Ohiofolklore.comFacebook.com/ohiofolklore And as always, keep wondering…  A special thanks to author Chris Woodyard for her participation in today's episode.  You can find her extensive collection of ghostly tales at her website here: http://hauntedohiobooks.com/

Hey Everyone! It's Bridget Marquardt here with a brand new episode of Ghost Magnet! Todays guest is Ken Summers.  Ken has long been fascinated by the most obscure, forgotten, and unusual stories and incidents related to the paranormal. That quest for the strangest of the strange developed into a blog series of “Queer Paranormal Road Trips” in 2008. This questioning of the sexualities of specters led to his last book, Queer Hauntings: True Tales of Gay and Lesbian Ghosts, published in 2009. Currently, he's busily at work researching for a follow-up book, once again delving into the mysterious realm where ‘weird' and ‘queer' blur together.  Whenever possible, Ken puts his vast knowledge of “useless information” to use in the form of tours, lectures, or writing. Some of his work can be found on Week in Weird. He was also editor and a contributor for Haunted Akron. Plus “Imaginary Friends,” an all new Ghost Report by Lisa Morton, this week on Ghost Magnet! #QueerGhosts #ImaginaryFriends #HauntedOhio

Episode 10: OHIO IS PROUD OF BEING WEIRD Host Kat Klockow is joined by cohorts Jen Koehler and Christina Wald for our supernatural 10th episode features James A Willis, the author of Weird Ohio, Haunted Ohio, and many others! https://strangeandspookyworld.com/ https://www.ghostsofohio.org/ @jamesawillis on Twitter A little about James A. Willis: Fueled by a steady childhood diet of Boo Berry cereal, Creepy magazine, and late-night Vincent Price movies, Willis soon developed a taste for the unexplained and quickly began seeking out all things strange and spooky. He is the co-author of Weird Ohio (2005) and Weird Indiana (2008) and was also a contributing author to Weird US (2004), Weird Hauntings (2006), Weird US II: The ODDyssey Continues (2008), and Weird Encounters (2010). Willis' unique and offbeat writing style was officially recognized in 2006 with his induction into the Grand Order of Weird Writers. In addition, Willis has been a contributing author to several books in the Armchair Reader series, including Weird, Scary & Unusual (2008), Armchair Reader Goes Hollywood (2010), and Haunted America (2011). In 2012, Willis struck out on his own with the publication of Haunted Indiana. For 2013's The Big Book Of Ohio Ghost Stories, Willis crisscrossed Ohio to bring readers over 75 of the Buckeye state's most famous (and infamous) ghosts. Willis' latest project, Ohio's Historic Haunts: Investigating the Paranormal in the Buckeye State, was a joint effort with Kent State University Press. Released in late 2015, the book approached hauntings and ghost stories from a historical perspective and chronicled Willis' personal experiences when locked inside of some of Ohio's most haunted locations. He also is the founder of the Ghosts of Ohio Paranormal Investigation and Research Team as well as a friend to the Cincinnati Cabinet of Curiosities comics anthology! We talk about his scariest ghost hunting experience, why every state has its own version of various urban legends, and why Ohio is proud of its weirdness! HAPPY THANKSGIVING! Thanksgiving should be a time to remember the indigenous people of our country rather than the story woven around the origin of the holiday. One way to give thanks is a ghost supper, which many native people are adopting. “One major difference I was taught is that the barrier between the living and the spirit world is weaker during this season. We take advantage of this so the entire extended family can eat together. The more I grew, the more families, we went to and we participated in more host ghost suppers. It would become a perpetual event that would be celebrated over the course of late October through early December.” Read more: https://www.lansingstatejournal.com/story/opinion/contributors/viewpoints/2019/11/25/viewpoint-ghost-supper-like-thanksgiving-native-people/4236769002/ https://strangeandspookyworld.com/category/crybaby-bridges/ Weird Things Link: https://www.fox13now.com/news/local-news/we-are-not-alone-mysterious-object-found-during-sheep-count?fbclid=IwAR2dU2zatpafHNixikUV0pskdJnMoizg1qDKCBaLSMEjLaEghBeACcbd-1E Email us your hometown haunt story and we will read it on our next episode! cincycuriosities@gmail.com Drops every Wednesday at midnight! Today you’ll meet artist Kevin Buntin from Ohio. Kevin creates fantasy, seasonal, and Halloween based sculpture. Kevin’s childhood Friday nights were spent watching Indiana horror host, Sammy Terry. While watching the movies that gave him nightmares, he would create clay monsters complete with internal organs.  After high school, Kevin wasn’t college bound, so he dismissed going into art as a career.  Kevin worked multiple factory and labor jobs, including cleaning up roadkill. After her health crisis, Kevin’s wife helped him remember at one time all he wanted to do was create and write. She encouraged him to go for art full-time.  One of Kevin’s favorite pastimes is researching mythology and fantasy.  These help him conjure up his characters. He is a writer and his experience includes writing background information for Dungeons and Dragons.  Kevin loves to create with gourds. When he looks at them, he sees faces. Many of his gourds come from Fulton Farms. Watch out for the ones that grow in the dampest part of the field - those are the more twisted and dark ones.  Kevin is a collector and hoarder. One of his artist friends sends him boxes of pumpkin stems. Local quilters save scraps from him. The oddest thing he was gifted was the preserved hide of a pet alpaca.  It took Kevin a while to find his niche with art shows. He didn’t quite fit in at local, comic-con, and art doll shows. One of his fellow artists, Cassandra Graham, introduced Kevin to the Ghoultide Gathering art show. He may have wet himself from excitement when he got into that show - is he kidding or not? Kevin now participates in Bewitching Peddlers of Halloween (BPoH). His career highlight was when a young girl purchased one of his sculptures with money she had earned herself. Kevin almost cried right in his booth. Kevin also loves to participate in the Merry Krampus show in Columbus, Ohio. Kevin enjoys studying Christmas legends and mythology.  Kevin’s town of Troy, Ohio, is blessed with history and ghosts. Ghost tours are a popular event - and visitors can actually go into many of the haunted buildings. Kevin highly recommends the Haunted Ohio series of books by Chris Woodyard.  Please find him on Instagram –he’s https://www.instagram.com/kevin_buntin/ or on Facebook, https://www.facebook.com/World-Of-Kevin-Buntin-16406553974/.  My website is https://www.halloweenartandtravel.com.

Locked in what is known as America’s “Rust Belt”, Ohio is a land that was once rich in industry and progress. Today, many of its once thriving communities as struggling to survive. Declining industry, aging factories, and a falling population have all left a negative impact on this once strong backbone of America. With this rich history and negative decline, comes emotions. Strong emotions that seem to feed the spirits of generations past. Souls of those who may have left this earth in living form, yet still roam the physical locations they helped build. The souls that make up Haunted Ohio. On today’s episode of The Grave Talks, we talk about the many haunted Ohio locations investigated by John Kachuba. What happened at a theater that once was the site of soldier’s bodies being stacked ground to the ceiling? What are some of the most haunted Cemeteries in Ohio? his Methodist church was founded in 1895 and is in Bryan, Ohio. But the only Sunday services are the tableside kind and will likely involve beer. You see, this historic structure is now home to Father John’s Microbrewery, and it is one of the most unique restaurants I have ever been to. The sanctuary is unchanged with its giant organ pipes and pews, but it is now used for just weddings and special events. There are more pews in the basement, which is where the restaurant and bar are located, and those pews surround tables. The decor is a mix of all religions and has a bit of a haunted, eerie feel. There is a Crypt Room with a suspended, floating cross table and a glass-covered tomb complete with coffin underneath it. The garden out back is really special with giant circular saw blades as tables, carved log barstools, more coffins, a Tibetan shrine and even a tiny child’s gravestone embedded in the garden’s cobblestone brick wall. The gravestone was uncovered during the excavation of the garden, but don’t worry, it was not from a real grave and there were no remains unearthed. That all may seem too creepy to you, but trust me, this place is not like some sideshow haunted house. It is an upscale place and its motto, "Heavenly, Devilish," fits it to a tee.
