On a recent expedition to Antarctica, researchers made a startling discovery after part of a huge ice sheet broke off. In the frigid waters originally hidden below, scientists discovered what appear to be new species of crustaceans, fish and other life forms. How is this possible and just how many more new life forms are waiting to be found? Jyotika Virmani, executive director of the Schmidt Ocean Institute, joins The Excerpt to share details of this remarkable discovery. At the ERLC, our goal is to serve our Southern Baptist churches in the public square. As you have heard throughout this series about our work in Washington D.C., having a presence and a voice in our nation's capital allows us to speak up, for, and from our Southern Baptist churches before various audiences. In previous episodes, we have broken down how that work covers all three branches of government and some of the specific ways we seek to engage those arenas. Today, our focus turns to the work of the ERLC's Research team and how they support and undergird the work of the ERLC Policy team. Joining us is Rashan Frost. RaShan serves as the ERLC director of research and senior fellow focused on issues of human dignity. He is the teaching pastor of Centerpoint Church in North Charleston, South Carolina, and is an adjunct professor of Christian Studies at Charleston Southern University. Frost earned his doctor of philosophy in theology with a concentration in public theology at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He is active in denominational leadership, serving with the Charleston Baptist Association of the South Carolina Baptist Convention.

In this episode of The Good Trouble Show with Matt Ford, physicist / electrical engineer Mitch Randall demonstrates a radar system for detecting UAPs / UFOs that can be deployed by the public, bypassing Pentagon classification rules. The tech is called Passive Bistatics and is a distributed UFO detection system with multi-sensor data and provenance. It's designed to distinguish instantaneous acceleration - something humans can't do. This tech will be globally revealed for the first time so anyone can develop the tech. The sensor platform is based on a Lockheed Martin radar system that detects ballistic missiles and other airborne targets and, of course, UAP / UFO.Follow or Contact Mitch Randall through: Twitter/X: @realityseaker Web: https://www.ascendantai.com/skywatch.Mitch Randall, MSEE, MS Phys, began building scientific instrumentation and research radars in 1984. He joined the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in 1989 where he developed airborne, ground-based, and mobile scientific weather research radars. Randall pioneered Software Defined Radio (SDR) techniques and deployed them in NCAR, NASA, and NOAA radars. Balance Matters: A neuro physical therapist’s journey to make “Sense” of Balance
In this interview, the incredible Gail Wetzler, PT, DPT, EBO, BI-D and I will be exploring the fascinating connections between the pelvic floor and foot engagement—a topic we've delved into while treating a mutual patient. One of our shared clients with significant neuropathy needed help with his ankle strategy and keeping his toes down during sit-to-stand movements. This journey of discovery began when Gail asked, "Have you cued his pelvic floor?" That simple question unlocked a wealth of new insights.Join us as we dive into how it's all interconnected—from anatomy to brain function—and uncover the best ways to analyze and cue these movements. Gail Wetzler, PT, DPT, EBO, BI-D currently owns an integrative physical therapy practice in Denver, Colorado, where they treat orthopedic, fascial/muscular/soft tissue, neurologic, pain, respiratory, digestive, mTBI and women's and men's health issues. After receiving her initial degree in physical therapy, she pursued her first experience in acute orthopedic care at Hoag Hospital, Newport Beach California. Within 1 year, she became the outpatient clinical supervisor and thus began her journey and desire for continuing education in the science and art of human movement and function. She studied with Travell and Simons, Mennell, Kaltenborn, Maitland, McKenzie, Mitchell, Jones and Greenman in the earlier years of manual therapy education. Inspired by these methods of treatment, she became an assistant teacher to Dr. Janet Travell and later an instructor with the Institute of Physical Art (IPA) developed by Gregg Johnson and Vicky Saliba Johnson. In a few years, she developed her own private practice, at which time she received a large number of head, neck and TMJ pain patients. This became a driver to learn more about cranial osteopathy, craniosacral therapy and how the fields of physical therapy and dentistry could collaborate to help these patients. As she pursued continuing education classes with Dr. John Upledger, he inspired her to learn more about the different systems in the body and how they all integrated for function. During one of her earlier speaking engagements for the Upledger Institute ( Beyond the Dura), she met Jean Pierre Barral DO, who inspired the importance of anatomy, the ability to listen to the body and the specificity of tissue dialogue in manual therapy techniques. She has listened and followed his mentoring into understanding the body's deeper fascial relationship of the viscera, vascular, neurological and manual articular systems since 1989. Gail has been an instructor for the Barral Institute (BI) since 1991 and became the BI Curriculum Director in 2001.In her career, she has been invited to speak at multiple professional conferences including National and State levels for the APTA, USC Head, Neck and Facial Pain Clinic, University of California, Irvine (UCI), Beyond the Dura Research Conferences, "Hope" Head Injury Organization, and was the keynote speaker in Italy for the Fascial Manipulation Research Conference presented by Antonio, Carla and Luigi Stecco. She is the Past Director of Physical Therapy for the Integrative Medicine Center at UCI. She is currently part of the Research Team for the Upledger Foundation for their recent studies on Post Concussion Recovery She currently teaches for the Women's Health Section of the APTA "Gynecological Visceral Manipulation". Gail earned her Diplomate from the Barral Institute in 2005. She earned her Equine Diplomate in Osteopathy from Vluggen Institute of Equine Osteopathy in 2009 and she earned her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Rosalind Franklin University, Chicago, in 2013.Gail serves on the Women's Health Task Force for the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC).Resources: APTA Academy of Pelvic Health Physical Therapy (aptapelvichealth.org)

For Indigenous peoples, such as the Māori, Water is an Ancestor, a living entity to be communed with, revered and treated with sacred reciprocity. We spoke with Heni Unwin in 2023 as she shared her perspectives as a Maori descendant and marine scientist. Humanity has a primordial connection to water. For Indigenous peoples, such as the Māori, Water is an Ancestor, a living entity to be communed with, revered and treated with sacred reciprocity. We owe our lives to the oceans, rivers, lakes and streams of the world. And although marine ecosystems have often been viewed and studied through the abstract lens of economics or science, today, traditional Indigenous knowledge and cultural relationships with marine life and water in all its forms, are at the forefront of a new weaving that blends the ancestral past with the present. There is a growing wish to restore traditional concepts of marine and aquatic cultivation and care, to address climate change, microplastics, health of marine life, contaminants, and aquaculture. If water is an ancestor, what is our obligation to it? How do we restore a harmonious relationship with water, that supports future generations of life, and preserves the lifeways and worldviews of Indigenous peoples? What do the waters of the world ask of us? What should stewardship of marine ecosystems look like? What might we learn from the Māori, expert navigators of the waters, who have long held that their relationship to the land and waters is sacred. To them: Nature is everything. In this episode, join Heni Unwin, Kairangahau or Research Scientist with the Cawthron Institute [https://www.cawthron.org.nz/], in pondering these questions from her diverse perspectives as a Māori descendant and marine scientist. These hunger crises could have long-lasting effects; according to biologist and early development specialist Tessa Roseboom, the impacts of near starvation are likely to be experienced by generations to come. Her research focuses on people who were born during or shortly after the Dutch “Hunger Winter,” a result of German blockades in the final months of World War II. We speak with Roseboom about her research and its implications for people experiencing starvation in current conflicts around the world. Guests: Abby Maxman, president and CEO, Oxfam America Dr. Tessa Roseboom, professor of early development and health, Amsterdam UMC, University of Amsterdam

We looked into an article on Louder Sound that talked about the longest runs on the Billboard album chart. That chart started as a Top 10 in the 1950s, expanding through to 1967 when it became the Billboard 200! That's name most of us know. This adventure just might include the most artists not previously profiled in one of our episodes: Lana Del Rey, Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Bruno Mars and Adele. Add chart champs of the '50s (Johnny Mathis, My Fair Lady OST), and this is a different musical journey. There's even a little controversy about Pink Floyd's "Dark Side" run (solved by the Research Team), and a ton more to discover. To add contrast the Boys also discuss the record-setting chart runs versus album sales. So many artist who have sold massive numbers, but didn't have a record-setter: The Eagles, Garth Brooks (both twice), AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, and The Beatles! Two things: -We are excited to be part of the party on 2/10/24 as Crooked Eye Brewing in Hatboro, PA marks 10 years of fun & brews with a huge party at the brewery featuring The Crooked Eye Band!!! The U.S. economy has shown remarkable resiliency despite many industry experts saying a recession is inevitable. The same cannot be said about the housing market. Home prices continue to climb, interest rates are near record highs, and home inventory is not matching homebuyer demand. It seems like the dream of owning a home is inching further out of reach for many Americans. In this episode of The SWIB Podcast, Leo Kropywiansky, senior portfolio manager on the Research Team in SWIB's Asset & Risk Allocation Group, shares his thoughts on just how long the volatility facing the U.S. housing market might continue, when home prices could level off or even drop, and what impact the Federal Reserve's efforts to tame inflation have had. And Mike Shearer, SWIB's head of fixed income strategies, will provide insight on what all this means for SWIB's mortgage-backed securities portfolio.

Before you can make the quiche, you need to cook the squirrel. I developed this recipe on my own. Once you get it down, you can use the meat to make a variety of dishes: quiche, pizza, bbq sliders, soup, tacos, etc. Slow Cooked Squirrel Ingredients: 1-2 Squirrels, skinned and gutted As many cloves of garlic as you can handle 1 tbsp each of salt, pepper, and oregano Half an onion 1 peeled lemon (helps with gamey flavor - can also use lime, vinegar, or some other source of acid) 1 can of beer (I use NA Busch, as I don't drink alcohol) 6 cups of water 4 bullion cubes Steps: In a crockpot, place the squirrels in the crockpot. Add all other ingredients. Cook on low for 6-8 hours (fox squirrels tend to take longer than gray squirrels). Remove squirrels and place in a large bowl. Let the squirrels cool until you can touch them without burning your hands. Carefully remove the meat from the bones. Arms, legs, and back strap are the easiest and most enjoyable pieces, the rib, belly, and spine meat is much more difficult to get, is more stringy, and is optional. However, I always go for it. Discard bones and remove any bbs from the meat if you find any (only a problem if you hunt with a shotgun). This meat can be used in a variety of dishes. Squirrel Quiche Ingredients: 3-4 strips of bacon A cup of diced green onions 1 diced serrano or 1 small jalapeno Salt & Pepper Tony Chachare's creole seasoning (or your own cajun blend of salt, pepper, oregano, paprika, and garlic powder). 1.5 cups of shredded cheese 6 eggs Pre-made pie crust Steps: Preheat oven at 375 In a skillet, cook the bacon until desired crispiness (mine is basically burnt) and crumble into small pieces. Put the pie crust in a nine-inch pie pan (it helps to let the crust warm up on the counter for 20-30 minutes beforehand. Add the bacon, green onions, squirrel, serrano, and 1 cup of cheese into the pan. In a separate bowl, beat the six eggs until smooth and consistent. Pour the eggs over all of the ingredients in the pie pan. Add the remaining cheese on top. Place in the oven for 40 minutes. Let cool, slice, and then serve.
