We've all been in that dark, despairing place that multi-talented singer/songwriter DeeAnn sings of on her soulful, deeply passionate new single “Stay Here with Me.” We thought we had met the mate of our dreams, only to question everything when he or she walks away, sometimes without reason or warning. No matter what we've been through, we remember how it felt to be with this person who changed our life and we'll do anything to have just a little more time.  Recorded live at Red Booth Studios in Rochester, NY with a full band and string quartet, “Stay Here with Me” was originally released on DeeAnn's 2019 EP Stay Here, but now makes the perfect follow-up single to her remarkable 2023 breakthrough album It's My Time. There were a lot of possibilities to choose from, including any of the beautifully arranged standards and originals from her latest collection. She chose “Stay Here with Me” because it's become a much-requested staple in her live performances at Buffalo hotspots like Sportsmen's Tavern, PAUSA Art House and the historic Colored Musician's Club. DeeAnn could never have imagined it at the time of recording, but the concept of “Stay Here with Me” extends beyond the realm of romantic longing as an expression of her grief and enduring love for her son William, who passed away in a motorcycle accident at 23 not long after she and Odel had completed most of the tracks of It's My Time. When DeeAnn returned to finish It's My Time, she added several new, very personal songs, starting with a heartrending, gospel-influenced version of “You Are My Sunshine”, a song she sang to William to put him to sleep when he was a child.  Odel's sensitive yet rousing and inspirational production features members of the Buffalo Philharmonic String Quartet (Roman Mekhulnov). Another original tune she added, the soulful ballad, “A Little Romance,” is a homage to the “angels” who helped her during her lowest points.  The singer laid the foundation for her newly burgeoning career with her cleverly titled 2017 collection Desperately Seeking DeeAnn.   Want to watch: YouTube Meisterkhan Pod (Please Subscribe)

This week, Alan, Quinta, and Scott were joined by Lawfare Editor-in-Chief Benjamin Wittes, fresh from his New York rumspringa, to talk over the week's big national security news, including:“You Don't Have to Go Home, But You Can't Stay Here.” That's the message that will soon be going out to those Lawfare team members that have been camping out at our temporary Manhattan studio, as, after weeks of proceedings, it is officially closing time for former President Donald Trump's criminal prosecution in New York. How has the trial proceeded? And what have we learned up to this point, before the verdict comes in?“Spinning the Wheels of Justice.” The prosecutor for the International Criminal Court has made a landmark request for arrest warrants targeting Hamas's three most senior officials as well as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on the grounds that they have committed war crimes and crimes against humanity. Is this a step towards justice? Or towards an end to the conflict?“Take a Hayek.” The Biden administration has now followed in the Trump administration's footsteps in imposing major tariffs on imports from China, and both parties seem comfortable with a level of trade protectionism that would have been inconceivable just a few decades ago. Is this the end of the neoliberal experiment? And what seems set to come about in its wake? For object lessons, Alan recommended pianist Víkingur Ólafsson's reworking of Bach's Organ Sonata No. 4. Quinta shouted out two cartoonists illustrating the Trump trial: Liza Donnelly for the New Yorker and Josh Cochran for the New York Times. Scott recommended the new book forthcoming from friend-of-the-pod Michel Paradis, a new portrait of Dwight Eisenhower in the lead-up to D-Day entitled “The Light of Battle.” And Ben gave an unlikely endorsement to one of Trump's legal counsel, the somewhat vampiric but nonetheless effective Emil Bove.To receive ad-free podcasts, become a Lawfare Material Supporter at www.patreon.com/lawfare. Ready to Deep Dive into our guest's personalities? It's time for “5 Questions With…” We put our previous guests back on the hot seat to answer 5 more burning, quirky and random questions we just had to know. Back today is Rob Madge, who is bringing their one-person show, “My Son's Queer, ‘but what can you do,'” for a 16 week run at the Lyceum Theatre on Broadway. They are an amazing actor and writer and they are now conquering Broadway and teaming up with the queen herself, Lady Gaga's Born This Way Foundation. It's going to be magic on stage. Also back is a major force on Broadway, Tom D'Angora is an actor, writer, director, producer and philanthropist, who besides co-producing two amazing shows now on Broadway, “Harmony,” and “How to Dance in Ohio,” along with the upcoming “Suffs,” still produces performances around the country of his “Naked Boys Singing,” and more. Tom is also known for saving some of Broadway's most iconic landmarks, like the Birdland Theatre and more. Finally we bring back the amazing actor Guillermo Diaz and accomplished writer, director and producer, Todd Verow, whose new film, “You Can't Stay Here,” opened to amazing reviews in NYC, is opening in LA next month, and will be in wider release shortly. Based around the Cruising world at New York's Central Park, the film finds Guillermo's character caught up in a murder, or is it all in his mind. It's a great psychological thriller that you will be glad you took the time to find when it's released near you. And the questions are….. Welcome to the Left of Str8 Podcasts: This is our “Left of Str8 Show” Interview Series, where we tell the stories of our amazing LGBTQ Community and fantastic Straight Ally's. It's Day Two for our Premiere Week of Season 7. Today is a Salute to the Movies with two brand new releases coming out. I was excited to interview one of my favorite queer Actors, Guillermo Diaz joining me in studio with equally exciting and queer Director Todd Verow. Their new film collaboration is “You Can't Stay Here,” and is a wonderful psychological thriller about a photographer ‘cruising' in Central Park, NY, and happens upon a murder. I'm on my 3rd viewing of this movie and it hits in a different way each time. Now playing in New York City and LA, look for a wide release soon, but you just may find Guillermo and Todd at a screening near you, keep your eyes peeled. Summary In this conversation, Guillermo Diaz and Todd Verow discuss their collaboration on the film 'You Can't Stay Here.' They talk about their backgrounds in acting and filmmaking, the creative process behind the film, and the challenges and joys of working in the industry. They also discuss the themes and techniques used in the film, including the incorporation of humor and real people. The conversation touches on their personal experiences as LGBTQ+ individuals and the importance of representation in the entertainment industry. Overall, the conversation provides insights into the making of the film and the experiences of the actors and director involved. The conversation covers the challenges of shooting scenes, the title of the film, film premieres, promotion and interacting with fans, future projects, and concludes with a set of five questions. Takeaways Shooting scenes can be challenging, especially when there are time constraints and external factors like busy locations. The title 'You Can't Stay Here' reflects the main character's struggle to find a place where he belongs. Premiering a film in different locations allows for different reactions and experiences. Promotion can be exciting, but many actors prefer the process of shooting and being on set. The actors have future projects in the works and hope to collaborate again in the future.

While this Sunday marks the start of the NFL's regular season for most teams—an unofficial holiday for many football fans—it has the potential to be life-changing for reasons that have little to do with sports. September 10 is also World Suicide Prevention Day, and a number of organizations are partnering to use the NFL's platform to help speak to people who might be thinking about taking their own life. They have much to teach us about both the urgency of this issue and our ability to help.  Author: Ryan Denison, PhD Narrator: Chris Elkins Subscribe: http://www.denisonforum.org/subscribe Read The Daily Article: https://www.denisonforum.org/daily-article/57-nfl-qbs-to-team-up-for-suicide-prevention/ See Dr. Jim Denison's  "What does the Bible say about suicide?" 759: 5 Questions to Ask Yourself When Things Are Hard

I thought after 3 hard years, we had all earned at least 3 years of ease.   But, no.  The collective experience of enduring and existing in incredibly challenging times seems to have shifted from a universal experience to an individual experience. 3 years ago we were all in it together. Today, we are all enduring alone. Significant workplace challenges, supporting our struggling children, losing loved ones, many of us cascading into our own mental health and/or addiction crises, and the list goes on… There is a lot of hard sh*t happening all around me - and mostly behind closed doors. It seems almost everyone I know is suffering in some sort of monumental way - and very privately.  I'm generally a glass-half-full person. I would say I'm pretty resilient. But I do have a threshold under which I cry uncle for sure.   As I've hit that threshold a few times recently, I've tried to pay close attention to the questions I can ask myself that help me STAY. In the past I sat in hard moments and tried to push through, to move forward. But sometimes moving forward feels too hard. Too heavy of a lift. What are the questions that allow us to just STAY HERE, not necessarily the ones that force us to take on the world?   I know some women who have opted out - permanently - in recent months. The pain too great. Too overwhelming.   Sometimes, it's ok to just STAY HERE and not necessarily need to take on the gargantuan task of actually moving forward.   In this episode, I talk you through 5 questions to ask yourself when you are in a hard moment - when you are committed to staying here but need to think through how to manage the moment.   IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are struggling to stay here, please reach out to help. Call your primary care doctor and ask for help. Call your therapist or psychiatrist if you have one. If you are in WA or OR, you can reach out to Mindful Therapy at https://www.mindfultherapygroup.com, as I recently did. I was able to get an appointment within a week. If you do not have a medical professional you can reach out to, please dial 988 and they will help you find someone. The world needs you to stay here.  Link mentioned: Suicide Hotline: Dial 988 or go to 988lifeline.org We love the sponsors that make this show possible!
