The week, we were joined by Steve Tagliere and Jason Bonilla of Junebird! We've known Steve for many years now as we used to play with him as a solo artist and the duo he had with his wife: Steve + Mel. Steve is a really talented songwriter and musician and we are big fans, so when he had a new project, we were sure to check it out. Before joining Brightwire, Helf was in The Grizzly Band, so we sat down with frontman of that band, Chad Lyles, to talk about what led him to music, what he's been up to since The Grizzly Band ended and what he's working on for the future. The article is in reference to a separate scholarly article published in The Journal of Sex Research about so called, ‘sex addiction' as it pertains to religious people. Joe expresses some frustration over his experience with a very specific way in which the church conditioned married women to have control over their husband's sexuality. The guys toy with the idea that re-reading the BOM for the podcast will bring them back into the church. They want to use this idea to make money. You can buy anything in this world…you know how it goes. Nobody else likes Pavement, but the guys can't help but tell one more thing about the show. The guys finally decide to pull the plug on reading chapter 27.  Joe offers a hearty pat on the back to Smith for legitimately forgetting that it was GC weekend last weekend. Smith reads some excerpts from old GC talks about the evils of pornography. Bane shows up to read anti-porn quotes from GC. Penn and Teller come up again. Joe insists that church members should be talking about consent rather than talking about abstaining from porn. Joe describes going down a Helf hole where he listened to at least 10 hours of podcasts from the wonderful Natasha Helfer. Smith reads another frustrating GC quote. Along Joe's journey this week, he learned about an LDS apologist called Kwaku and someone else who has an anti-Jahndallyn blog. Kwaku has an unlisted yt video about the evils of Jahndallyn. Smith's assessment of some of the exmo drama is that it's a classic who done it. The guys try to see how many times they can say Kwaku. Heaps. Kazakhstan has stabilized after protests broke out to start the new year. USIP's Gavin Helf says while the sudden unrest was driven by “real, honest-to-goodness protests … what we really saw was the weakness of authoritarian systems,” as loyalists of the previous and current leaders clashed amid the public upheaval.

College presidents are often responsible for making myriad decisions and balancing competing priorities. As a result, college presidents have one of the most critical and visible positions in higher education. In this episode, Dr. P. talks with Dr. Herman Felton, Jr., president of Wiley College, about his professional journey, the skillsets and habits that help him succeed as a college leader, and some of the things he does in a typical day of work.In the summer of 2018, Herman began his service as the 17th president of Wiley College. In a short period of time, he has achieved significant accomplishments, including spearheading a campaign with college alumni and supporters that has launched the work to renovate and modernize the Thomas W. Cole Library and partnering with the Marshall Economic Development Corporation to receive a $100,000 grant to renovate KBWC, the college's radio station as well as a training space for physical education majors. President Felton has also created a Student Health, Counseling, and Wellness Unit for the college that is staffed with a full-time licensed practitioner. In addition to his accomplishments on Wiley's campus, President Felton has immersed himself in the fabric of the Marshall Community, where he is a member of the Marshall Rotary Club, the Marshall Chamber of Commerce, and the Citizens Advisory Council. Prior to Wiley College, Dr. Felton was the 21st president of Wilberforce University in Wilberforce, Ohio. Before his tenure at Wilberforce University, Dr. Felton served as senior vice president, chief operating officer, and vice president of institutional advancement for Livingstone College in Salisbury, North Carolina. He was also the director of development while serving as a lecturer in the Government, Law, and International Affairs Department at Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky. Dr. Felton earned his bachelor's degree in political science from Edward Waters College in Jacksonville, Florida. He also earned his Juris Doctorate from the Levin College of Law at the University of Florida and completed graduate work at Jackson State University, where he earned the Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Administration and Supervision. He is co-founder of the Higher Education Leadership Foundation (H.E.L.F.), an organization ensuring that a pipeline of transformational, highly skilled and principled leaders are identified and cultivated to meet the needs, challenges and opportunities facing the nation's Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Dr. Felton served in the United States Marine Corps for eight years.
