Home Affairs Minister, Dr Leon Schreiber has unveiled a new tech to help the Border Management Authority combat corruption and tighten SA's border security. The upgrades include surveillance drones, body cameras for Border Management Authority (BMA) officers, and other advanced equipment designed to fight corruption and stop illegal border crossings. Dr Schreiber says four high-tech drones will be deployed to different border posts and rotated to other regions when needed.
Home Affairs Minister, Dr Leon Schreiber has called on voters to occupy the centre position of the country's electoral processes. He was delivering the opening address at the two day International Conference of the Electoral Reform Consultation Panel discussions currently ongoing in Boksburg on the East Rand of Gauteng. Electoral reforms that are up for discussion include ways to increase voter turnout and submissions by voters who want more direct participation on who voters send to parliament and provincial legislatures. This also includes submissions calling for the establishment mechanisms that would allow voters to recall poor-performing public representatives. Dr Schreiber however warns that reforms alone will not fix the country's challenges

There continues to be widespread reaction to the case involving one of Miss South Africa's contestants for the upcoming annual pageant set to take place on Saturday evening. This follows the announcement by the Home Affairs department which notes that the person recorded in its records as Chidimma Adetshina's mother may have committed fraud and identify theft. Adetshina's entry to the pageant caused a social media storm as it is understood her father is Nigerian while her mother may be from Mozambique. The Department of Home Affairs says it has found prima facie evidence that the woman registered as the mother of Miss SA contestant, Chidimma Adetshina, may have committed identity fraud and identity theft when registering Adetshina. In a statement released last night, Home Affairs Minister, Leon Schreiber says Adetshina could not have participated in the alleged unlawful actions of her mother, as she was an infant at the time, adding that an innocent South African mother suffered and could not register her child as a result of the alleged identity fraud.
