Tabria connects with friend and fellow model, podcast host, body inclusivity activist, and mom Hunter McGrady for an eye-opening conversation on the discrimination plus-size women experience and the archaic misconceptions about plus-size pregnancies, which are still being perpetuated. Hunter shares why she advocates for normalizing - not criticizing - formula feeding after grief drastically reduced her milk supply, why she vowed never to speak negatively about her body in front of her kids, what's in her mental health toolkit, and helpful tips for finding doctors, therapists, and nannies. The gal pals also unpack the body positivity movement's current regression, the dire need for a national paid leave policy, and the power of intuitive parenting. Please note that this episode may contain paid endorsements and advertisements for products and services. Hunter McGrady is such a dreamboat. This conversation was expansive, honest, so funny… and truly nothing was off limits. We talked about the challenges and shame that can come with finding a wedding or bridesmaids dress for a curvy figure. We talked about 2020, during which Hunter not only welcomed her first child but was a time when her life came to a crashing halt with the unexpected loss of her younger brother. She shares how she straddled the most devastating and crippling grief with the excitement and joy of her new baby boy. Hunter and I both come from blended, modern families and we talked about both having a stepmom and BEING one, as Hunter became a stepmom in her early twenties. We even covered finding gray hair, death doulas, and what bitches girls are in high school (and how much we still blame the moms who bred that horrible species of female). Growing up in Los Angeles as an aspiring model, Hunter McGrady is breaking down cultural beauty barriers as the first plus size woman to appear on the cover of The Knot. She's the curviest model to appear in ‘Sports Illustrated' and was named their 2018 rookie of the year. Hunter was one of the first curve models to walk NYFW runways in September 2017, and has worked with top brands such as Olay, Revlon, Nordstrom, and Lane Bryant. Hunter is a dedicated advocate for body positivity and mental health, and works closely with the JED foundation for suicide prevention. With an actor father and a model mother, it's no wonder sisters Hunter &Michaela McGrady ended up in the entertainment industry. But they didn't just end up in it, they completely shook it up. You may recognize Hunter from a little something called Sports Illustrated, as she was the curviest model to ever appear in their iconic Swimsuit Edition. But, Hunter didn't begin as a plus size model, beginning her career at a size 2 and finding peace and acceptance for herself in a larger body AND a booming career. Best friend & sister Michaela, curve/plus model herself, is living life in LA with a career in modelling of her own while helping women embrace themselves every step of the way. Together, they cohost the Model Citizen podcast, where they talk about anything and everything. Today we sit down to talk about Main Character Energy, the modelling industry, clothes shopping, the silence after having a baby about your body, and the very recent loss of their little brother. This episode should serve up as fun, light-hearted with tidbits that may just change your life forever, in the way only sisterhood can. Model Behavior. Hunter McGrady is a third-generation model who is killing it…and she’s doing it with kindness and compassion. We were witness to her beautiful vibes during her photo shoot for Story + Rain. One of Hunter’s missions is to help nurture women of all body types. The fresh-faced blonde grew up in the mountains of Malibu and has Icelandic roots. Her mother was personally mentored by modeling industry icon Wilhelmina Cooper. Currently a size 18, Hunter is the curviest model to be featured in Sports Illustrated’s famed Swimsuit Issue, for four years and counting. Her size has changed over the years, and she embraces it. An impressive accomplishment for someone under 30, last year she released her size-inclusive line for QVC. Recently married, Hunter has worked with brands like The Knot to help dispel the common practice of a woman shedding weight for her wedding day. A social media influencer and a brand ambassador, Hunter works with big brands like Olay, Revlon, and Amazon. During our talk we ask Hunter about how her mother prepared her for the business. We discuss the pivotal moment that caused her to take a break, when she was turned away from a photo shoot because of her size. Megan Roup is a celebrity trainer and the founder of The Sculpt Society, a fitness platform and app that makes lengthening and strengthening dance cardio and sculpting workouts accessible to all women. As a professional dancer, fit model, and fitness instructor, Megan struggled to find a workout that was both effective and fun until she found dance-based fitness. After seeing how intimidating dance cardio could be for the average gal, she was inspired to change that and developed a method that made it simple and empowering—and The Sculpt Society was born. Today, Megan’s workouts are beloved by celebrities, influencers, and Victoria’s Secret models including Arielle Charnas, Hannah Bronfman, Hunter McGrady, and Elsa Hosk. The Scuplt Society has been featured in Vogue, Shape, Health, Harper’s Bazaar, E! News and many others. So, I’ve been following Megan on social media for a while now and I adore her. She’s not only a badass trainer in incredible shape, but she’s also super down to earth and kind. And I’m so excited for you to listen in on our conversation today about how she built her amazing business. In this episode, she shares her journey juggling a professional dancing career with modeling for fitness brands, and teaching fitness classes and what inspired her to go all in as a fitness instructor, the moment she got the download to create her own dance cardio method, the steps she took to build her initial base of clients, and why her classes were completely full within 6 months of launching, the bold moves she made to build brand awareness and get in front of influencers, and why many of her celebrity clientele was a product of word of mouth, why she calls herself the queen of the side hustle, and her biggest recommendations for taking the pressure off your business so that it can grow naturally in the beginning, the biggest mistakes she’s made as an entrepreneur and why learning to trust herself has often been her biggest lesson, and so much more! Hunter McGrady and Brian Keys married on June 16, 2019. You can spot Hunter McGrady, model and body positive activist, on the cover of the latest issue of The Knot Magazine, which hits newsstands July 29, 2019. Brian was introduced to Hunter through her Snapchat account—by another woman who he was on a first date with at the time! Brian didn't go on a second date with that particular lady, but, months later, he did boldly slide into Hunter’s DMs. Brian got a sense of Hunter's humor and personality through her engaging and fun Snapchat stories. Hunter got to know Brian through a long series of direct messages, eventually becoming Facebook friends before they met IRL while she was visiting New York City on a work assignment. The duo finally met up in person after months of digital correspondence. They experienced a strong initial connection, so much so that their first date ended up lasting three days. A few months of dating convinced Hunter to move to NYC so her and Brian could be together in the same place. A few years later, and now Hunter and Brian are happily married. They recently hosted a stunning wedding celebration in Southern California where they put their own spin on conventional traditions including Hunter's wedding fashion, which was custom made for her style and body, their vows, and Hunter's first dance with her father. Tune in to find out what they did to create a celebration that was uniquely their own, reflecting their personalities, style and personal values. On today’s episode, the newlyweds take us through their love story and wedding planning journey, and Hunter shares empowering advice for loving the body you're in. You'll also get a sneak preview of what's available in The Knot Fall 2019 Fashion Issue, our most inclusive fashion issue to date, featuring Hunter McGrady as a guest editor. In this fun episode, Brett and Rob get liquored up while daydreaming about who they would have for a presidential Cabinet if they were ever elected (ha!) to the Presidency. They decided to pare down the Cabinet to the original five positions. Brett professes his love for his wife, while Rob professes that Hunter McGrady has an open invitation to be his First Lady. Here is what the Dynamically Drunken Duo have for members of their Cabinet: Secretary of State: Ron Paul Secretary of the Treasury: Bob Murphy Secretary of Peace (Defense): Rob -- Rand Paul, Brett -- General James Mattis Attorney General: Joe Becker Vice-President: Thomas Massie As a non-Cabinet position, the National Security Advisor would be Scott Horton. Rob also gives a very special mention about who he would like to hire out of his own pocket as an advisor. Listen to find out who it is. As usual, Brett and Rob get sidetracked and talk about the evils of inflation and the need for sound monetary policy, but you expect that when they have four or more ounces of whiskey in them. They recommend you listen to The Jason Stapleton Show's Episode 608 to learn about the Burrito Index and how it tracks inflation better than the Feds ever could.
