On this week's episode of 'The Saturday Show with Jonathan Capehart': Pardon power. Before he leaves office, President Biden has the constitutional authority to pardon anyone he chooses for federal crimes. Some Republicans argue that pardoning Donald Trump would "heal" the country. Biden could also pardon his own son, Hunter, although he's vowed not to. I'll ask Ankush Khardori and Kimberly Atkins Stohr who they think could and should receive presidential pardons. And, raising alarms. Health experts warn that confirming Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as HHS Secretary could actually cost lives. We'll talk to Gov. Josh Green of Hawaii, a medical doctor who has first-hand experience with the consequences of RFK Jr.'s misinformation and conspiracy theories about childhood vaccinations. And the Watch List. "Wicked," "Gladiator 2" and the "Moana" sequel fueled a Black Friday box office bonanza, but what else should you be watching? Chris Witherspoon joins me with best movies and TV shows to put on your holiday watch list. All that and more on “The Saturday Show with Jonathan Capehart.”

Welcome to Class, Pencil Busters! All over the news, President-Elect Trump is "tapping" people to fill his cabinet. Why do presidents have cabinets stuffed full of people? Well, they shouldn't. So what is a Presidential Cabinet if not a piece of furniture? Dr. Tim and Dr. Johnny lead a lesson on the Executive Branch of the United States government. And then, we take a look at a man who has been auditioning to be Trump's nomination for Secretary of Education for the past year. Ryan Walters, Oklahoma State Superintendent of Public Instruction, mandated in June that each public school in Oklahoma needed a Bible. This week, he mandated that each PUBLIC school in the state needed to play a video announcing the establishment of a new state department to promote school prayer. Well, get those pencils ready, we've got busting to do! As a note, between recording this episode and its release, Trump tapped WWE executive Linda McMahon for Secretary of Education. Truly, the only requirement for nomination is to be chosen... BustED Pencils: Fully Leaded Education Talk is part of Civic Media. Quick Sunday research updates, give a listen. Some researchers are now saying Trump is Rothschild “controlled,” which explains his past financings from the Rothschild bank’s distressed asset division, the appointment of their former distressed asset division president (Wilbur Ross) to Trump’s Presidential Cabinet, his daily public push for a military-assisted rapidly rolled out “Vaccine,” and the total lack of prosecution of any of these Epstein Island child snuffers — the federal government’s approach, from unacceptable delays in releasing key Virginia Giuffre court documents to losing star pedo ring witness Jeffrey Epstein to a sliced & crushed neck in a suicide-proof holding cell, all indicate Trump is anything but serious about getting to the bottom of his former friend and neighbor’s transgressions against the world’s children. He recently wished former Epstein accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell “well” with her legal troubles, twice. Wished a suspected facilitator of child torture and child trafficker well, again, two times — he wanted to be clear that’s what he meant.“We'll develop a vaccine. We're going to have it very soon and we're ready to distribute it. We've got the military ready, logistics it’s called. And we'll end this pandemic and we will rebuild the greatest economy in the history of the world,” Trump stated earlier this year.Good little Rothschild doggie! Trump and Epstein I don’t see the 5D chess here, at all. The last three years of personalized censorship and gangstalking, while being told “Trump knows” — how disgusting. Of course he knows! He was Epstein’s pal for a DECADE. Unprecedented targeted censorship in America, for three years, to protect the sick visitors to Epstein’s frazzledrip child snuff treason island, huh? UNACCEPTABLE. City-Sized Swarms of Locusts Are Annihilating Crops in East Africa and Middle East (0:32)Guest: Quinn Mecham, Professor of Political Science, BYUWhile the world deals with the coronavirus pandemic, a plague of locusts is swarming across East Africa and the Middle East. The locusts are devouring crops and their numbers are multiplying rapidly. It really is like the book of Exodus come to life – but it's not landing on the front pages of newspapers in America. When Invasive Species Stand in for Extinct Animals in an Ecosystem (18:17)Guest: Erick Lundgren, PhD Student, Centre for Compassionate Conservation, University of Technology SydneyHippos are native to Africa. But there's a thriving population of the lumbering plant-eaters in Colombia on the former estate of drug lord Pablo Escobar. The hippos were part of his private zoo and after Escobar's death in 1993, they were left to fend for themselves. Now they've moved into Colombia's main river and may number around 100. This is the classic example of an invasive species setting up shop in a place it doesn't belong – and usually it's bad news. Just look at Florida's python problem. But these hippos might be a case of helping the ecosystem because they behave a little like some of the ancient creatures that used to roam this part of Colombia. Should I Be Wearing a Mask When I Go Outside? (33:59)Guest: Arnold Monto MD, Professor of Epidemiology, University of Michigan School of Public Health. For weeks, US health officials have been telling us not to wear masks in public unless you're already infected with COVID-19. But now both the CDC is considering changing that recommendation to say that a basic face mask is a good idea for everyone – even if it's just a bandana tied around your face, since masks are nearly impossible to find in stores now. Some Asian countries have encouraged face masks throughout the pandemic. Have we been putting ourselves at risk this whole time? US Presidents Weren't Supposed to Have Cabinets, But They All Do. Here's Why. (50:40)Guest: Lindsay M. Chervinsky, Historian, White House Historical Association, Author of “The Cabinet: George Washington and the Creation of an American Institution”During the coronavirus pandemic, President Trump has relied on a close group of advisors to guide the response. We've seen them standing beside him during daily briefings: the Vice President; Treasury Secretary; Secretary of Health and Human Services; the Surgeon General and the head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. We also know that behind-the-scenes, President Trump has reached out to a range of friends, business leaders, media personalities and celebrities for advice.  Presidents need advisers they can trust in a crisis. So, perhaps it will surprise you to learn that the US Constitution doesn't actually provide for a Presidential cabinet. In fact, the idea that a president would consult with a small group of advisers was really upsetting to many of the founding fathers. And yet, every US president since Washington has had one. The Physics of a Bird's Nests (1:27:49)Guest: Dr Hunter King, Assistant Professor, Department of Polymer Science, University of AkronI have short curly hair and when I wake up in the morning it looks like birds have nested on my head. Except that birds' nests aren't just tangled and haphazard. They're actually an impressive feat of engineering that physicist Hunter King is trying to figure out so we can create new materials and building techniques.

L. Hunter Lovins is an author and the President and Founder of Natural Capitalism Solutions (NCS), a  non-profit formed in 2002 in Longmont, CO. A renowned author and  champion of sustainable development for over 35 years, Hunter has  consulted on sustainable agriculture, energy, water, security, and climate policies for scores of governments, communities, and companies worldwide. Within the United States, she has consulted for the Presidential Cabinet, Department of Defense, EPA, Department of Energy and numerous state and local agencies. Hunter Joins Sustainable Nation to Discuss: What has changed since writing Natural Capitalism in 2000 Sustainability as a competitive advantage Regenerative economies Advice and recommendations for sustainability professionals Hunter's Final Five Question Responses: What is one piece of advice you would give other sustainability professionals that might help them in their careers? This comes from my friend Kate Wolf, the folk singer who said, "Find what you really care about and live a life that shows it." There is so much important work that needs to be done. Whether in early childhood education or cleaning fossil fuels and carbon emissions out of our economy or getting plastic single use plastics out of our lives. Whatever it is that you're passionate about, commit to it and commit to adopt. Do one thing. Every day, what's your dot? At the end of the day look back and say, "Did I do my dot?" If every day you do a dot, you will move the world. What are you most excited about right now in the world of sustainability and regenerative development? With a group from around the world, we created a new organization called We-All( Wellbeing Economy Alliance). There's so many groups around the world. What we did was take a number of them and combine them. There are now about dozens of new economy groups literally from all over the world who are committing to work together to spread this concept of an economy that works in service to life. An economy that works for a 100% of humanity. Watch this space. We've just launched the website at the moment it's just a landing page, but in the coming days we're going to be flushing it out. I'm also pretty thrilled about my new book, A Finer Future. We're going to be launching a website for that, where I will be having an ongoing discussion, posting all the cool new things that keep happening. I put the book to bed the end of January, and since then, so much stuff has happened and continues to happen. That is good news. Things that individuals can do that we can all make a difference with. We're going to make it a living website for the book. It'll be www.ourfinerfuture.org. Then the work of Natural Capitalism Solutions. My little NGO, which is part of We-All, part of Fullerton's Regenerative hubs. We're working with groups like the Savory Institute on Regenerative Agriculture. We're resurrecting work. We did a few years back for small businesses to teach students how to go out into their community with a set of tools we develop that enable small businesses to cut their carbon footprint profitably. We're just going to give it away. Watch this space. Watch the Natural Capitalism website. Watch for my book A Finer Future: Creating an Economy in Service to Life. What is one book you would recommend sustainability professionals read? I believe it's called A Finer Future coming out in September. If you don't want to wait for that one, Kate Raworth's Doughnut Economics and Freya Williams' Green Giant's. Freya lays out a whole set of principles that the next billion dollar companies are following to build their profitability. What are some of your favorite resources or tools that really help you in the work that you do? SASB - Sustainability Accounting Standards Board should hit the streets this year. This is a effort by Bob Eccles at Harvard to transform accounting so that sustainability practices that are material, which is to say a reasonable investor would want to know about them, will now have to be accounted for as part of financial accounting. When this hits the streets, it's going to transform everything. The Savory Institute's ecological outcome verification. How do you know if a product is regenerative? Savory Ins. is developing this with scientists to enable ranchers, farmers to be able to demonstrate year on year that what they're doing is increasing the carbon in the soil, is increasing biodiversity, increasing a whole range of ecosystem indicators, and then certifying it so that when you go to a grocery store, when you buy a fashion brand, there'll be a little label on it. This is regenerative. If you as a consumer preferentially buy products that are certified regenerative, you'll be part of the solution. Where can our listeners go to follow you and learn more about the work that you do and learn about all these exciting things you're working on? Keep listening to your podcast. Our website is www.napcapsolutions.org Natural Capitalism. The Finer Future website is www.finerfuture.org. Also, www.wellbeingeconomy.org. I'm on Twitter @hlovins. I'm on Facebook and come September, I'll have a new book out.

In this fun episode, Brett and Rob get liquored up while daydreaming about who they would have for a presidential Cabinet if they were ever elected (ha!) to the Presidency. They decided to pare down the Cabinet to the original five positions. Brett professes his love for his wife, while Rob professes that Hunter McGrady has an open invitation to be his First Lady. Here is what the Dynamically Drunken Duo have for members of their Cabinet: Secretary of State: Ron Paul Secretary of the Treasury: Bob Murphy Secretary of Peace (Defense): Rob -- Rand Paul, Brett -- General James Mattis Attorney General: Joe Becker Vice-President: Thomas Massie As a non-Cabinet position, the National Security Advisor would be Scott Horton. Rob also gives a very special mention about who he would like to hire out of his own pocket as an advisor. Listen to find out who it is. As usual, Brett and Rob get sidetracked and talk about the evils of inflation and the need for sound monetary policy, but you expect that when they have four or more ounces of whiskey in them. They recommend you listen to The Jason Stapleton Show's Episode 608 to learn about the Burrito Index and how it tracks inflation better than the Feds ever could.
