This week I am joined by very successful and very beautiful 52 year old silver haired curve model Rachel Peru. Rachel recently posted a reel on her Instagram (see reel here) of her wearing a tailored blazer with a bralette underneath. This post got lots and lots of positive comments but it also attracted a lot of negative comments like "tell nanna to take her medication" (from a man) and lots of "you are too old for this, put it away" (from women). The comments were worse on Facebook which is interesting... Tune in to hear our chat about how this felt for Rachel and why we think this happens. Why don't women support women and why do the media still tell women over 40 not to wear certain things and blend into the background?

Paying attention to your appearance is a very human trait. And though we talk about accepting our bodies and learning to love them, most of us still think about our image a lot. We're not the only species that groom,” says researcher and clinical psychologist Deb Mitchison. “Most species are interested in how they look so it's not a drive that I think we can expect to eliminate.” The problem is that parts of society take advantage of our natural drive to look and be better. They profit from creating insecurities around how we present to the world. This can lead to body image issues and eating disorders. The situation raises some philosophical questions about our society. At what point does enhancing or investing in our appearance turn into a problem? “There's a need to constantly update yourself or be better than what you are,” says philosopher Mary Zournazi. “It can give you power but be detrimental at the same time.” In this episode of Butterfly: Let's Talk, we explore the difference between putting your best foot forward and going too far, both for society and your own physical and mental health. Hunter McGrady is such a dreamboat. This conversation was expansive, honest, so funny… and truly nothing was off limits. We talked about the challenges and shame that can come with finding a wedding or bridesmaids dress for a curvy figure. We talked about 2020, during which Hunter not only welcomed her first child but was a time when her life came to a crashing halt with the unexpected loss of her younger brother. She shares how she straddled the most devastating and crippling grief with the excitement and joy of her new baby boy. Hunter and I both come from blended, modern families and we talked about both having a stepmom and BEING one, as Hunter became a stepmom in her early twenties. We even covered finding gray hair, death doulas, and what bitches girls are in high school (and how much we still blame the moms who bred that horrible species of female). Growing up in Los Angeles as an aspiring model, Hunter McGrady is breaking down cultural beauty barriers as the first plus size woman to appear on the cover of The Knot. She's the curviest model to appear in ‘Sports Illustrated' and was named their 2018 rookie of the year. Hunter was one of the first curve models to walk NYFW runways in September 2017, and has worked with top brands such as Olay, Revlon, Nordstrom, and Lane Bryant. Hunter is a dedicated advocate for body positivity and mental health, and works closely with the JED foundation for suicide prevention. -Episode livestreamed Tuesday, August 11, 2020, on Facebook and YouTube. This episode is going to be a targeted discussion on current events that have been in the news in the last week and focus the show on some guests and their stories. We have Melissa Agnes, a recognized leading authority on crisis preparedness, reputation management, and brand protection that will help us have a conversation regarding our current state of affairs. We also have Emily Robbins who is a modern day empowerment specialist and Curve Model who is passionate about the education of human trafficking and finding self-worth.This episode is going to continue the hard conversation on how to have the uncomfortable conversation regarding politics, pandemics, race, and the differences we all have. We have Curtis Harkness, Aaron Smalls and Kash Lee Kelly for this Tuesday's show. We will give an update on #StreetlightsUnityMovement and #BeTheChange.Today's potential discussion items:-Chicago Shooting and Riots-Self Empowerment-Body image in relation to health and self-worth-Brief touch on human trafficking and Football Season if we have time. The concept about this hour on politics is to create open dialogue. We have made ourselves well versed in politics, with a willingness to research every bit of information that comes my way and separating fact from "media fact," based on exhaustive research and common sense in the English language. This will be an open forum for discussion. The first few have been incredibly productive as we try our best to show every side so that we better know to have a conversation in the end. We are going to share our thoughts, and do our best to answer a couple questions. I'll be keeping this show to one hour (ish) and again, looking to continue this regularly. We will talk about the issues in Atlanta, why it's important to listen to different viewpoints, what this division is causing and why this is so dangerous as a society... the hangings, the elderly woman pushed in the street in NY, we have to maintain civility, and we want to help you with that voice. Here's the "Event" - this starts at 6 pm EDT and will go for about an hour to explain the danger in all the hateful posting going on with political posts. Right now, as a country we are in this together and I want to separate opinion from facts, logic from emotion, and what happens when we start to share our "opinions" as fact. Also, I want to challenge some people on their beliefs that may have been rooted in half-truths. We talked in detail about awareness last week, but didn't talk about important parts of created change this week, including self responsibility from all people. At the end of the day my belief is with the company I started to -- #bethechange you wish to see in the world and the spreading of division and hate going on in a time of turmoil that we as a planet are going through is unacceptable.Don't be a #socialmediawarrior - instead be a #changeagent with an #openmindI want both my liberal and conservative friends alike to join me and I will be coming at this conversation from strictly a point of logic and hope. We are allowed to differ in opinions, but we have to separate emotion from logic. I can also invite people on to the stream to have a discussion live instead of just via comments so please feel free to join me, discuss, debate, argue, whatever. I just want to create an open forum to discuss the concept of truth and how dangerous the spreading of judgement and hate without true information can be. #bethechange. Why is this important to me? I'm a free citizen that has a very open mind and self-educates exhaustively, and it is my right and my wish to do so. Also, with that though process I consider myself a voice of logic and kindness looking to constantly promote positivity despite all the division and hate.Let's learn together. I will do my best to be searching different articles to determine what really is the truth, so we can all learn, including me, but at the end of the day I suggest tolerance, love, kindness over spreading hate and issues.Jump on at 6 pm, as Anthony starts the stream with some basic thoughts and then I'll get to work fielding concepts and thoughts! This time is subject to weekly time shifts based on guest availability. https://www.facebook.com/BeTheChangeUSAhttps://www.youtube.com/c/bethechangeusahttps://www.hashtagbethechange.com/#politics #love #unitedwestand #dividedwefall #stopthehate #logic #emotion #differentlenses #spreadtruth #fakenews #stoplisteningtothemediaasgospel #truthwillsetyoufree #republicans #democrats #GOP #DNC #GeorgeFloyd #SUM #Unity #StreetlightsUnityMovement #WeCan #BreakingtheBarriers #jointheconvo #dontfightunite #regularhero

I first came across todays guest whilst searching for body confident women over on Instagram several years ago and I've been following Jess Megan ever since. Song that always motivates you? Ed Sheeran- Castle on the Hill, reminding Jess of being with her friends whilst we are in lockdown. A book that's inspired you? New episode of the podcast featuring @theaprilflores out now! April is a porn performer, model and artist from Los Angeles. She’s the star of Fat Girl, a fine art book that documents 12 years of her erotic art practice with the photographer Carlos Batts. In 2005, she got her start performing in porn with Belladonna and in 2014, she became the first performer to win the AVN Award for BBW Performer of the Year. She’s won a Feminist Porn Award for her work in “Lesbian Curves 3: Soft Girls and Strap Ons” and wrote about beauty and embodiment in Tristan Taormino’s The Feminist Porn Book: The Politics of Producing Pleasure. We talk about learning the term “zaftig” and she clears up my misunderstanding of what a FUPA actually is. She’s the first Tierney Talks guest to have her own masturbator toy and tells us all about the molding process (she’s the first BBW to be molded for such a toy & the Amazon reviews are worth reading!) We talk about entering the porn industry as a hobbyist, weed and body dysmorphia and the plus-size amount of work left to do in the fat acceptance movement! We also talk about fat representation in porn vs mainstream fashion and entertainment, enjoying her exhibitionism and her female fan base. April describes the way making porn fulfills her interests in filmmaking and says her main career motivation is to be visibly naked, fat, fucking, having fun and getting paid for it. And we’re smoking weed and wearing lingerie the whole time! Once again, Linds and Krista bring on the best of the health, wellness, and body positivity industries. This week's guest is DANIKA BRYSHA, a curve model with IMG Models, the CEO of Model Meals, a leader in the health and wellness world, and an inspirational rockstar for everyone. Danika has been featured in InStyle, Shape, PopSugar, People, and many more publications. Her story has inspired thousands of women who are struggling with loving their body, their relationship with food and addiction, and transforming their lives. Danika shares her story, which starts at a young age, battling drug usage, fad chronic dieting, and being "the chubby girl", using her food to process her emotions. But that didn't stop her from being one of the busiest, most successful curve models in the world, after being discovered in a Bank of America. Needless to say, she took her insecurities and built a life for herself off of them. Some of the most useful food/body tips you'll ever hear from this episode are: drop the FOOD RULES the answer to losing weight is "NOT trying to lose weight" it's never about the food, it's about YOU (your childhood, you mentality about yourself growing up, specific circumstances you were under) don't waste your energy on worrying about food, worry about YOUR DREAMS it's about how you FEEL after you eat food how much the MEDIA REALLY INFLUENCES the way you think about yourself
