A new report sounds the alarm about the risk that some county election officials could refuse to certify the results this November, if Kamala Harris defeats Donald Trump This new study from CREW, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, finds that dozens of election deniers who tried to keep Joe Biden's victory in 2020 from becoming official are in key posts in county election departments across pivotal swing states. This comes as concerns rise that changes in laws, and the election of more Trump supporters to some local election offices, could mean that even if Harris wins in states such as Arizona or Georgia, these officials could refuse to certify legitimate results in an effort to award that state's electoral votes to Donald Trump instead of Kamala Harris. For more on this, KCBS Insider Doug Sovern and KCBS Radio anchor Bret Burkhart were joined by Noah Bookbinder, President of CREW, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington.
AP correspondent Lisa Dwyer reports on the conviction of a one-time hero to election deniers.

TEMP CHECK 3:20 - This week let's take a deeper look into Peter Thiel's past, from paying lawyers to help Hulk Hogan's sue Gawker Media, to how he's been influenced by AN INTERNET BLOGGER WHO USED TO GO BY THE NAME MENCIUS MOLDBUG. We also cover some of the politicians that's he's funded that have failed, and how JD Vance is a win for Thiel's extreme ideologies. 12:30 - We break down the “Kamala is a cop” trope and examine her history as a prosecutor, from her “Back On Track” program in San Francisco aimed at reducing recidivism among young adults, to writing the playbook on how to prosecute against the “gay panic defense.” MAIN NEWS 26:20 - If you remember the election certification process from 2020....get ready for it to happen again, on steroids. With 90 days to the 2024 election, there are several ways in which election integrity is already being called into question, and we're expecting to see voter challenges and accusations of fraud in counties in swing states. Sami also found a report on the Heritage Foundation's website from some “election integrity exercises” that they conducted in the spring, like war games for the election. AMERICAN'T 49:20 - Last week Olympic athlete Imane Khalief was disqualified after beating her opponent in 46 seconds, and almost as quickly rumors were spreading about Khalief's gender and past. V explains how misinformation spread so quickly, and the troubled past and ties of IBA President, Umar Kremlev, with Putin. Six months out from the election, and a few issues are converging. Senator Claire McCaskill and former White House Communications Director Jennifer Palmieri drill down on what's working and what President Biden needs to focus on around a few key issues like immigration, the war in Gaza and reproductive rights. And after Senator Tim Scott tied himself in knots to avoid saying he'd accept the 2024 election results, it's a good time to check in with elections lawyer Marc Elias about coming legal shenanigans. Claire and Marc highlight lawsuits brought by the RNC that aim to sow doubt in election integrity ahead of the fall, and how to stand up to right wing vigilantism at the ballot box.

After the U.S. Supreme Court decimated much of the Voting Rights Act in 2013, casting a ballot has become harder, not easier, in many states. Limits on how and where to vote, gerrymandered voting districts that diminish the power of voters of color, challenges to vote-by-mail laws and former President Donald Trump's lies that legitimate election results were not valid all contribute to the problem. Richard Hasen is a professor of Law and Political Science at UCLA Law School, where he directs the Safeguarding Democracy Project. His new book titled, "A Real Right to Vote" suggests the only way to really address these barriers to voting is an amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Learn more about your ad choices. Emma hosts Victoria Bassetti, Senior Advisor of States United Action and author of Electoral Dysfunction: A Survival Manual for American Voters, to discuss the upcoming state elections all across the country coming up next Tuesday. First, Emma runs through updates on ANOTHER Fed interest rate hike, polling in PA, WI, and NC ahead of the midterms, Bolsonaro's private concession, and Netanyahu's return to Israeli politics with a far-right coalition behind him, before diving into Biden's address of the presence of democracy on the ballot in 2022. Victoria Bassetti then joins as she gets right into the work being done at States United Action to track the presence of anti-democratic candidates, beginning in 2021 with reports from both the grassroots and institutional sides of a rising tide of election deniers running for office, and inspiring SUA to keep tabs on state races for the big three seats (Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State). After painting a picture of the serious prevalence of election deniers on ballots across the US, Bassetti and Emma walk through the ballots in various swings states, exploring why Arkansas and Georgia have no election deniers on the ballot while Arizona and Michigan might have multiple seats go that direction, and touching on the prevalence of these politicians even in solid blue places like New York. Wrapping up, Victoria and Emma very briefly touch on the upcoming Moore v. Harper case in the Supreme Court, walk through the various right-wing attempts to stifle voting (both mail-in and in-person), and discuss how individuals can fight back against these tactics heading into the midterms. And in the Fun Half: Emma is joined by Matt and Brandon as they assess the recent discourse on anti-semitism and Black Hebrew Israelites, before watching an old Bo Burnham clip on capitalism's evolution from colonization of land to its attack on attention, and Keister from Florida discusses the anti-semitism at the recent Georgia-Florida game. Fox host Pete Hegseth explores how the libs made up social studies, bells, and sitting in rows, Sam from Wisconsin talks anti-Matt Walsh protests, and Matt Binder parses through his deep-dive exposé on Jimmy Dore's sockpuppet account, plus, your calls and IMs!
