Persist through obstacles, setbacks and strife, Remain purposeful and consistent even in the face of worry and fear, Regardless of whether the task is a small one or lasts your entire life, Practice inner discipline and conscientiousness to grant you the strength to persevere. [full script below] Ep. 398 - Happy Diligence We begin as always with the Happy Creed. We believe in Happy, in Balance and Growth, of being Mindful and Grateful, Compassionate and Understanding. Yowza Haha My Happy Friends! Happy Diligence means persisting through obstacles, setbacks and strife, Where you remain purposeful and consistent even in the face of worry and fear, Regardless of whether the task is a small one or lasts your entire life, Practicing inner discipline and conscientiousness grants you the strength to persevere. I may not be the smartest, or the fastest, but I am made of some pretty strong stuff, So, I know that I always can, at the very least, work super, extra hard, So that even if my skills are lacking, my tenacity might still be enough To allow me to out-maneuver, outlast, and go the extra yard. I give myself small deadlines to help keep my motivation alive, I finish smaller projects, while I chip away at the bigger ones, It grants me a sense of accomplishment, which, in turn, boosts my drive, And ensures that I keep following the path of my dreams wheresoever it runs. I practice my moods, and I work through my pain, I teach myself to be resilient, I train my heart and my mind, But I also allow myself to be silly, to laugh, and to play in the rain, To smile at strangers, and write about what it means to be kind. For Happy Diligence isn't just about how to be tough, But also how to be tender when you need to be too, How to be Human, which is sometimes smooth, sometimes rough, Because Life is, ultimately, something each of us is just trying to make it through. Haha Yowza
Because Life is Short… “So be careful how you live. Don't live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days.” Ephesians 5:15-16 (NLT) “Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom.” Psalm 90:12 (NLT) “Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.” James 4:14 (NIV) “Lord, remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered—how fleeting my life is. You have made my life no longer than the width of my hand. My entire lifetime is just a moment to you; at best, each of us is but a breath.” Psalm 39:4-5 (NLT) Life at its longest point is short. “I am still not all I should be, but I am focusing all my energies on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead,, I strain to reach the end of the end of the race and receive the prize of God…” Philippians 3:13 NLT Here's What Lasts Forever: God- Isaiah 40:28 God's Son- Hebrews 13:8 God's Word- Isaiah 40:8 God's Faithfulness- Psalm 117:2 God's Kingdom- Psalm 145:13 God's Kindness- Isaiah 54:8 God's Love- Jeremiah 31:3 Salvation- Isaiah 51:6; 1 Corinthians 9:25; 1 Peter 1:4 Heaven- Psalm 23:6 Here's What Doesn't Last Forever: Our Accomplishments- 1 Corinthians 3:15 Everything on Earth- Zepheniah 1:18 WHAT DOES GOD WANT ACCOMPLISHED ON PLANET EARTH? God wants all people, in all places, at all times to come to know and experience His love for them in Jesus Christ. And our response is to love Him back and demonstrate that love through obedience. “The eyes of the Lord search the whole earth in order to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to Him.” 2 Chronicles 16:9 NLT “God showed us how much He loved us by sending His only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through Him. This is real love. It is not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.” 1 John 4:9, 10 NLT “Dear friends, since God loved us that much, we surely ought to love each other. No one has ever seen God. But if we love each other, God lives in us, and His love has been brought to full expression through us.” 1 John 4: 11, 12 NLT What Do We Sacrifice to God So the World Can Come to Know and Experience God's Love? First, Give God Your Influence. Second, Give God Your Affluence. You let His work be the focus of your life. And when great focus and great sacrifice are combined, then the world will be changed. “And the Good News about the Kingdom will be preached throughout the whole world, so that all nations will hear it; and then, finally, the end will come.” Matthew 24:14 NLT

Success requires great systems — but also the flexibility to adapt when needed. That's true in both life and business. And no one is more qualified to speak on success in both sectors — and how to balance both routine and adaptability — than our latest guest. Jay Nixon is an accomplished speaker, author, coach, and mentor whose mission is to disrupt the health and fitness industry. He is the owner of Thrive Fitness Studio in Palm Desert, California, and the creator of the Thrive Forever Fit F.L.E.X. Transformation Program and The Hero Academy. Listen to the full conversation for more on Jay's story (from acupuncture studio broom closet to NFL consultant to multimillion-dollar business owner), why most people get in their own way when it comes to health, the most important mindset shifts people need in order to succeed, and a lot more. Here's a Glimpse of What You'll Learn: Jay's background, and how that led him to the fitness industry and the entrepreneurial life — including his time consulting with the NFL How Jay drummed up the courage to take the entrepreneurial leap despite having the comfort and status of a great corporate career How Jay built up his career over the years — despite starting his personal training business in the broom closet of an acupuncture studio Why Jay believes success is 80% psychology and only 20% mechanics The role that Jay's chaotic childhood — including the death of his father when he was a young child — has affected his psychology as an adult What “aggressive empathy” is and why Jay says he has it The top reason people get stuck when it comes to weight loss or starting a healthier lifestyle Why Jay can tell whether someone has a self-esteem issue, just based on the first 3 minutes of meeting them Why one of the most important things someone can do to create change in their lives includes writing a “new story” for themselves How Jay measures success in his business and life, plus the regular routines he's incorporated into his life (including getting up at 3 a.m.) Why Jay says he treats his life “like a business” Why Jay doesn't believe in balance and how he incorporates both regimentation and flexibility into his life Resources Mentioned in This Episode: Thrive Forever Fit website Thrive Forever Fit Supplements Jay Nixon on Instagram Jay Nixon on Facebook “The Overweight Mind: The Undeniable Truth Behind Why You're Not Losing Weight” by Jay Nixon “The Purpose of Pain: How to Turn Tragedy into Triumph, Because Life's Not Supposed to Suck” by Jay Nixon Buy a copy of “Lost at CEO: An Entrepreneur's Guide to Strategy” by Carl J. 13. We Got to Stay Four Days “We got to stay four days”, said a girl in braids and bathing suit to me. I looked back at her and smiled, we were both on vacation, and in that moment, we were free! We had our portion of the good life, the sun, the sand, the smell of the sea. Perfectly curated shops and markets, stretched as far as our eyes could see. She said - “We got to stay, for four days”. And with some sadness she smiled down at me, from perched atop her Momma's back, like she was climbing on a tree. I didn't know how to respond, my plan - went no further than my smile. But what fumbled out of my mouth I wish I'd thought on for a while. This girl was maybe 7 or 8, with braided pigtails tied up with those marble balls. Her older sister - kept her hair natural. I wish the words I spoke had been more inspired-and-less-factual. Because I clumsily said smiling back, “I think we get to stay four days too”. I'm not even sure on that math, I didn't take time to think it through. She seemed well loved. Within a tribe. Family. Four generations of women headed home in a cramped-up ride. To make room they offered me their extra waters, but I polite-fully declined. As for bottled waters I too was oversupplied. But I wonder… if my eyes reflected the sadness of the vacation ending dismay? How we all longed for more ‘vacation' free from worry, free from suffering. Free! For just another day. There was a sharing in the air as we were untethered from life's cares. The weight of her words they caught me totally unawares. After my ‘four-days' we were all back home in life as we had known it. I wish instead, right there, we'd hatched a plan. Each gone back to a power-system and over-thrown it. Because Life… should be lived free! Freed from fear by Just What Is within each present moment. Freedom is ours! It's our preferences… that make us forget we already own it. We labor all year long for a couple weeks. For homes, for stuff, for our ‘four days'. Human consciousness though exists to manifest love not to chase this year's borrowed clothes and borrowed stays. I helped the grandmother pack up her tent, and wished them blessings on their way. But I can't forget her bittersweet smile and young voice say… “We got to stay for four days”. Dear scribbler + speaker, The embodied question is: So what do we do when trauma + grief comes our way (over and over again), personally + collectively? Embodiment CTA (Call to Abide): We make space for grief with multifaceted, reparative activities. Because Life be Lifin' 24/7. Get Curious: Take the Rest Ritual Quiz Call in: Leave a message (keep it private or get it included on the podcast) Therapy: Therapy for Black Girls Journaling Prompt: Notepad PDF (free download) Meditative Playlists: Braid Grief with Grace Andrea “Angie” shepherds us into a pause for somatic healing of trauma to awaken souls to make space for grief through movement, empathy + curiosity, which supports reparative action, deeper rest, connections—embodiment's ongoing pathways for healing, no matter where you are—even at a Walmart lube and tire center patiently getting a flat tire repaired. Somatic healing—reparative work-play has been helpful for Andrea not only with those she pastors but also in her own healing. She believes to be able to compassionately integrate play and listen to her body as a Black woman and connect with her body and other bodies is transformative and ancestral. Andrea offers pause parishioners a soft place to meditate on trauma + grief as they actively move through the body intentionally and intuitively on an individual and societal level. She shares the importance of a multi-layered, therapeutic support squad and feeling our feelings if and when we have the capacity, keeps us empowered enough to connect, create, advocate, rest and resist as we “braid grief with grace.” The episode concludes with Andrea reflecting on shattered hope at the fringes—hanging out on the outskirts, and the role embodiment can play in manifesting new possibilities of human flourishing amid violence, which is a threat to the nervous system (and so so much more), personally + collectively. On today's episode, I wanted to look back on my fears and anxieties ahead of giving birth to baby Daxon at the end of last year. I'm turning another page in my diary to speak to you guys on things I learned from the process of giving birth and recommendations based on the experience I went through (say yes to the doula!) I also give an update on where I'm at in my postpartum journey and my mindset of trying to find the familiar in these moments of great change. I'm forever grateful for those of you who have been with me through this and have sent me messages of encouragement and stories of your own post-birth journeys. In this episode, I sit down with Sydel Curry Lee, who is an entrepreneur, athlete, mental health advocate and host of the podcast, Because Life. Sydel shares with honesty and vulnerability about her own struggles and how that inspired her to create a platform to help others, describing the lessons she's learned along the way. We get into debunking some of the stigmas around therapy, and we discuss the importance of putting your own self-care first and surrounding yourself with supportive and accepting people. Good stuff to say the least. After receiving a scholarship in volleyball at Elon University, Sydel's dreams of being a star athlete came to an abrupt halt. After considering her own mental and physical health, Sydel invested herself in another passion – psychology. She now is developing her own lifestyle brand encompassing family, faith, food, mental health, and more. Her show Sydel Takes On follows her journey of meeting other famous children and learning about their own lives and talents outside of the spotlight placed on them from the media. The discussion focuses on the exploration of challenges and advantages within their - often misrepresented - world. She is also active on YouTube where she inspires others to openly discuss all aspects of their life, while continuing to challenge the stigma around discussing mental health in an honest, yet spirited way. You can find out more about Sydel by finding her on Instagram and listening to her new podcast Because Life. I'm also obsessed with knowing all about you, so please follow (and DM!) me on Instagram, and find me on Facebook and my website. We're in this together and the journey is going to be so awesome. In today's episode, our resident ‘Healing Consultant' from across the pond, Tasha Bailey, joins me as our co-host. We check in on our feelings today and how to treat our feelings, especially the negative ones, as guests in our home, rather than annoyances we want to get rid of. Also, we do have a kiki about our shared obsession with ‘Love Island' (which, to our delight, our very special guest shared as well). Speaking of our very special guest…today, we are joined by the amazing Brittany Sinitch, also known as FiveFootOneTeacher. A survivor of the Parkland, Florida school shooting, Brittany is fostering hope and change through her platform on social media. After her world was turned upside down in February 2018, the classroom that was once her “favorite place in the world” became a crime scene she never wanted to revisit. In the year following the tragedy, she made the difficult decision to step away from the classroom and during that time, she started the Unbreakable Organization, which gives back to communities and schools who have been impacted by tragedy. She joins us today to talk about experiencing tragedy, how she found the strength to get through it and how she navigates PTSD and triggers to this day now that she's returned to the classroom. We are so honored she joined us to share her story and we hope you are as touched as we are by her. In today's episode, I am joined by the Founder of The Pattern App, Lisa Donovan, for an illuminating conversation about using Astrology as a tool to navigate your mental health. We talk about how her own mental health struggles sparked her introduction to Astrology and how the practices she learned from it helped her forge her way out of turmoil. We discuss finding and living in our purpose and how she created The Pattern App as a tool for users to help understand their own purpose and navigate their mental health. Plus, she reads me (for filth). Thanks again to Lisa Donovan for joining me today. In today's episode, Dr. Ebony is back in the co-hosting seat fresh off of Austin Black Pride. We catch up on the current happenings in our lives now that the world is finally opening up, pregnancy news, and the miracle of modern medicine. Then, we are joined by a pioneering modern man, Ricky, for a conversation we have been waiting to have on the podcast: opening the conversation surrounding mental health among men and boys. We discuss Ricky's experience navigating his mental health struggles in a culture that sweeps it under the rug and how it lead to his work in the mental health space. We dive into how we can better teach emotional literacy in our youth, especially boys, and how the lack of mental health in our education system impacts the rest of our society. It's a eye-opening conversation about systematic and structural challenges with the role of mental health in our education system. We learned a lot and we hope you do too. #unlockyourhiddenpower FREE Survival Guide: www.remychausse.com/alchemy Upcoming Events: http://successcircleworkshops.com/ When we’re going through life’s journey, it’s not always ladybugs and fireflies! “The Joy Factor” is something I started using years ago as a benchmark for success. I’ve always been able to draw an imaginary circle and tell someone, “This is MY universe.” Then I’d draw another circle and say, “This is YOUR universe.” Then I’d draw another circle and say, “This is THE universe.” And this was an illustration that these three universes were intersecting. Whether or not I’d allow someone to stay in MY universe would depend on my joy factor. Not to ask how much joy were they bringing me (because my own joy is really up to me), but how much joy do I really feel when we’re together? Is it a 10 … or is it a 2 … what’s the factor? What’s the percentage? Because … Life brings us BIG obstacles, and smaller obstacles. Our hearts get beat up. Our souls become battered. But if there’s a certain percentage of joy in my life, and the opportunity to be creative, I know I’ll be okay! I know I’ll be able to find success! What I have for you today is my #1 absolute favorite strategy for making sure we have joy in our life so that the universe can bring us even more joyful experiences. This episode is for you if you wonder … What IS the joy factor? How do we create our joy factor? What about karma … is there any joy in karma? Transcript – Discipline Motivational Speech | Fearless Motivation Life can be brutal Life can be unforgiving. If i had to sum up in 1 word the difference between the greats and the average. The difference between the successful and the nobodies of the world. 1 word. 1 attribute to describe the difference… DISCIPLINE. If you don't have the discipline You can forget about the trophy. You can forget about the success, the greatness. ALL CHAMPIONS HAVE DISCIPLINE. It's the discipline to work hard… You know – NOT when everyone is watching. But when no one is watching. When the fans aren't there. When the coach isn't there. When it's just you and your character. The discipline to eat strong healthy foods, when you have other tempting options. When those around you might not be so strong. The discipline to KEEP going WHEN IT HURTS. Because LIFE doesn't give you what you want. It gives you what you deserve. And if you haven't worked for it. If you haven't sacrificed for it. If you haven't given your all. Then – you don't deserve it. AND, you WON'T GET IT Push through the pain. On the other side is growth When pain comes, that means it's time to show character! SHOW ME YOUR CHARACTER! Remain disciplined. STAY STRONG! When it all seems hopeless: Keep plugging away When it gets painful. PUSH HARDER. PUSH THROUGH THE PAIN. You gotta have the discipline to do 11, when your opponent stops at 10. The discipline to KEEP going WHEN IT HURTS. Because LIFE doesn't give you what you want. It gives you what you deserve. And if you haven't worked for it. If you haven't sacrificed for it. If you haven't given your all. Then – you don't deserve it. AND, you WON'T GET IT SHOW YOUR CHARACTER! Remain disciplined. STAY STRONG! Don't say why the pain. Don't say WHY ME Say TRY ME! Today I was reflecting on life realizing just how many cool things there are that you could end up experiencing and doing in life! I remember starting out as a kid, I just wanted to be a mommy. I loved my mommy. Then I wanted to be a music teacher, then I wanted to be a dancer, I wanted to be a singer. There are just so many different things! I loved horses, so of course I wanted to be with horses, which I am living my dream there. I wanted to travel and see the world, and there are so many things that I'd love to contribute in the lives of others. So even slowing down to recognize who my tribe is, boy, was that a task for me! Because I wanted to be with everybody. I want to support everybody. You tell me what you need, and I would figure out a way to support you, believe me! At the same time, when I slowed down my inner chatter was; “How could I possibly choose? What if I choose wrong? That would be a problem. I wouldn't ever want to do it wrong. If I choose something what if I miss out on something?” Because I didn't want to miss out on anything that life had to offer. I wanted it all from of place of wanting to savor this life. The next phase of my life was like, “Oh, look, there is that person. Look what they are doing. I don't know that I would ever be able to do it like that! And, doubt and fear would begin to clog my vision, and then I'd feel like why even try. Others of us, when we get started on our journey, we love all of the different possibilities, so we get started with something and are on fire with it – and then we're not. We lose our momentum, we don't end up having the experience that we thought we would, or, maybe we'd have to put In a little more of our heart and soul into the path. And it felt like there were a lot of tangled webs in there, that were shadowy, and we weren't really feeling confident that we had the support we needed to be navigate that territory. That resonates with my life experience. Because then I'd have to trust somebody, and the truth was, I did not trust many people at all. Not with my shadow parts. That was really vulnerable territory. You know what I've discovered, by continuing on this path on this journey in life, is that I do have a very unique gift for the world. And you do too. When you follow your heart, I've discovered that you cannot get it wrong, whatever it is. Because when we slow down to actually reside in the heart, our inner sanctuary, that's where we can commune with Spirit. We can get really real with life. There may be some diversions that we have along the way, yet; when we keep coming back to our heart, back to our body, our inner sanctuary, we can always re-center. Because I know I was born to be a heart-centered person that loves to contribute in the lives of others. That gives my life joy! When I'm in relationship with life it's not about ‘I'm missing out on something' it's about celebrating the lives of others! Collaboratively celebrating that others have celebrations in their lives and living their dreams and being in relationship with them. Then they are there with you celebrating your life as well so there is a mutuality. There is a reciprocal relationship that builds that bridge of trust so strong. The truth is, no one can be you, except you. And, that's the gift – YOU are the gift. So, stepping into the truth and living the principle, “I am a unique being. I am complete and whole as I am.” Trusting that my path becomes clear before me as I live life heart-centered and present each moment, being who I was created to be. That's why I'm here. I know that it's true that nothing and no one is against me. Because Life really is for me. Life celebrates when we are born and is always available to support us on our path. We just need to slow down to be able to experience that. Rather than being caught up and lost in the echoes of our mind. A lot of shadows are created there. So, what is a skillset that can support you on this journey? Being a

Jay Nixon - My Mentor, Coach, Confidant, and Brother. In this episode, Jay and I dig deep into his new book. New Book Details: Learn How to Turn Tragedy and Pain into a Catalyst for Growth and Success! It's been said that pain is a fundamental part of life—a darkness that acts as a contrast to the light. Most, if not all of us experience pain at some point in our lives, particularly the emotional pain of loss. While it may be true that pain is unavoidable, it doesn't have to lead to meaningless suffering. Pain can serve a far greater purpose in your life than something to be feared. Jay Nixon, the bestselling author of The Overweight Mind: The Undeniable Truth Behind Why You're Not Losing Weight is back with a groundbreaking new book, The Purpose of Pain: How to Turn Tragedy into Triumph, Because Life’s Not Supposed to Suck! The Purpose of Pain is a transformational guide that shows you how to turn pain into a catalyst for change—how you can turn your story of tragedy into a life of triumph. In the book, Nixon chronicles his personal struggle with the pain of losing his father at age five in a devastating head-on car crash – an event that cast a two decade-long shadow over his life. Using a combination of direct truths and a touch of humor, Nixon walks you step by step through the process he used to overcome the tragedy that had dominated his life, and turn it into a life of triumph and success. The result is a compassionate guide that anyone can use to conquer emotional pain in all of its many forms. In this book, you’ll learn: How honoring your pain helps jumpstart the healing process Tools and tactics to avoid tragedy that dictate your future How to shift your mindset from victim to warrior How to use your pain for purpose instead of sadness Why rituals are powerful and how to use them to heal Permission to stop feeling guilty about claiming the happiness you deserve What the Personal Development Vortex is—and how to avoid it. ...and much more! Most of all, you’ll pinpoint the habits and thinking patterns you’ve been unconsciously using to sabotage your own progress, so you can overcome your pain and turn it into a catalyst for progress. The Cost of Broken Promises The cost of breaking promises to ourselves is unquantifiable. You eventually get to a place where you no longer believe the words that come out of your mouth. You eventually get to a place where you don't even trust yourself anymore. And that is a dangerous place to be in life. Broken promises lead to: *Lack of self-worth *No self-belief *Low or non-existent self-esteem *Zero trust in yourself If you're in this place, it's not too late to make a shift. It's not too late to rebuild your self-esteem. All you have to do is follow the steps we chat about in this podcast episode. Thanks for listening to the Thrive Forever Fit Show!
