The town of Davidson is on a mission to get people safely across the streets. Starting Tuesday, a new town ordinance makes it improper to jaywalk or cross streets outside of sidewalks. Those who are caught improperly crossing the street could be cited. “People will usually just walk across at any part of the streets, and they don't wait for the crosswalk,” Kelly Brower, a Cornelius resident, told WCNC Charlotte's Jesse Pierre, who visited Davidson Monday. Town and community leaders have been working on initiatives to make the town safer for walkers, bikers and drivers. “What used to be maybe safe to do four or five years ago, now it's become much more difficult,” Kimber Davidson, the police chief of the town with whom he shares a name, explained. “So, we're trying to encourage through voluntary compliance, the use of the crosswalks.” Town Manager Jamie Justice supports this initiative. "We want everyone to be safe. There is so much activity in these pedestrian safety zones," Justice said. "We ask that everyone use the approved crosswalks to avoid any more pedestrian injuries or fatalities." Town leaders said they adopted the "improper road crossing ordinance" after three incidents where people were hit and killed in recent years. Over the last month, Davidson police officers have been educating people about the new rule. On this week's show (originally posted 5/13/2018): Labor historian Joe McCartin discusses the 1938 U.S. Supreme Court's Mackay decision, which permits the permanent replacement of striking workers; Joe says this obscure decision was in fact a “ticking time bomb” that would go off to devastating effect more than 40 years later, when Ronald Reagan fired striking air traffic controllers in 1981, giving employers across the country a green light for union-busting. PLUS: Joe Hower on how Jerry Wurf built AFSCME into one of the most powerful unions in America, Lane Windham on the first union of public library workers, and Saul Schniderman and David Fernandez on the Matewan Massacre. Chris Bangert-Drowns even manages to sneak in baseball's first labor strike, when the 1912 Detroit Tigers refused to play after team leader Ty Cobb was suspended. Plus music from Brooklyn Cablevision workers – and CWA members -- Jaywalk, Grim and Shatoya Thomas-Flemmings, and the immortal Hazel Dickens. There's something of an unspoken rule among city residents of many major metropolitan cities, whether it be D.C. or San Francisco or New York City: If you're standing at an intersection with traffic lights, no cars are approaching and you're waiting at a red light, you can cross the street. So, it begs the question: Why did Gov. Gavin Newsom veto a bill that would decriminalize jaywalking? See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Alex Nolan re-joins us on Outta the Park! When did Alex release he had an aptitude for Baseball? The guys chat about ah-ha moments on the mound and Alex reveals what his moment was. The Jaywalk pants have returned! The prodigal pants return and there is a story about where they have been. There is a grammatical error that sends Matt off on a tangent. Ask Barry Davis talks about Barry’s best and worst birthday memories. The boys chat about homophobia and baseball and dive into Barry’s Grade 8 report card.
Ericka and Val are celebrating the near weekend on Friday. They first talk about the big game this weekend and recap Matt and Aunie's interview with Gene Hallman from earlier. Then, they get into Elizabeth Warren's crazy medicare-for-all plan that will cost trillions. That transitions into the social credit score in China and what their government does to people who jaywalk. Finally, a former runner for Nike is alleges some unreal allegations on the emotional and physical abuse she went through while doing a project for the company. #talk995 #realtalk

Todd’s thoughts on the opener in baseball are some that he makes exceedingly clear. The guys chat about the differences in prep between being a starter or a reliever. “My computer numbers don’t match up…” Todd’s thoughts on analytics are laid bare. The First Pitch discusses the possibility of The Jaywalk creating a new Auston Matthews T-Shirt. Did Vladimir Guerrero Jr’s first season in the majors live up to the hype. Why weren’t more precautions taken with regards to Auston Matthews? Doesn’t he know who he is? Off season targets for the Jays is a chatting point.
Yes, it's illegal. But that doesn't stop residents of other cities from doing it. SoundQs host Deborah Wang teamed up with Record producer Adwoa Gymiah-Brempong and sidewalk artist Peregrine Church to answer this listener question about jaywalking.
Blue Jays legend Pat Hentgen joins Barry and Matt to chat about rowing… WHAT? You’ll see, but Barry, Matt and Pat get around to some baseball talk. Mr. Hentgen is sooo well spoken that any yard he spins just flows like knife through butter. The guys get into blisters and the recent plight of Aaron Sanchez. How does Pat think the Blue Jays can help Aaron move beyond these struggles. What does Pat think of pitchers that feel that they can only pitch one inning? Shouldn’t a reliever be able to go more than one inning. Is it the MLB’s fault for the shift in mentality? Does Pat feel that Aaron Sanchez is better as a reliever? He explains. The First Pitch tells a story about a Jaywalk pin with youngest McFarland. WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THE DAMN RAPTORS? Why aren’t the veterans on the Raptors stepping up and taking control of this series. The guys discuss the Blue Jays handing the White Sox their asses and Vladdy’s homer. Aaron Sanchez’s finger issues continue. What now? Ask Barry Davis asks whether the Blue Jays are set to give up on Teoscar Hernandez. How long is his leash? Raptors talk emerges and talk of Skip Bayless gets Matt heated. Would Marcus Stroman be a fit in NY, playing for the Bronx Bombers? The results of the Fair or Foul Poll are revealed…
A legendary voice joins us in studio. Jerry Howarth, former Blue Jays radio voice, joined Barry and Matt in studio to chat about his new book, Hello Friends! Jerry and Barry reminisce about how Barry’s career was kickstarted by Jerry. Matt chimes in and gushes about Jerry’s impact on his baseball experience. The guys detail the principles of broadcasting, according to Jerry, and how HE embarked on the journey that brought him to the Blue Jays broadcast booth. What does Jerry do to prep for a chat with an athlete? Jerry chats about the late Tom Cheek and Tom’s last inning in the booth. It’s only part 1! There’s more to come in part 2 on our members only show. The First Pitch: The new Jaywalk gear has arrived. The guys discuss the Opening Day for the Blue Jays and Marcus Stroman’s sparkling first start. It appears as though the rift between Aaron Sanchez and the aforementioned Stroman has been mended. The trade of Kendrys Morales is touched on. Did Kendrys know what was happening? Jude MacDonald on the Leafs: What is wrong with Frederik Andersen and does it have to do with fatigue. Does the division of the minutes for the Leafs defence makes sense? Ask Barry Davis: How do minor leaguers survive on so little income? Does Charlie Montoyo’s minor league record at all translate into success in the majors? The results of the Fair or Foul Poll are revealed. All that and more!
Todd Stottlemyre joins us. The former Blue Jay reflects on the death of his dad. Its an emotional conversation, listening to a son wax nostalgic on the man that helped to shape the man we’re chatting with. What was Mel like as a grandfather? Was the guy that so many in baseball respected different in comparison to the man that existed behind the scenes. Todd chats about his Dad's final days and the strength that his father displayed in the face of an uncomfortable truth. The First Pitch: The guys salivate over the new Jaywalk apparel. Are baseball games taking too long to complete? Who is the MLB catering to when it comes to the pace of play changes? Blue Jays Minor League: Jay Blue of Blue Jays From Away joins Outta the Park to talk about his Blue Jays minor league handbook and about the prospects that many wouldn’t know but should. On The Ice: Jude MacDonald joins the boys to chat about a potential rift between Maple Leafs GM Kyle Dubas and coach Mike Babcock. Ask Barry Davis: 6 man rotation, Anthony Alford, Bo Bichette being brought into the MLB this season. The results of the Fair or Foul Poll are revealed. All that and more...

I, your usually super healthy PaleoJay, have just recovered from a week long bout with a bad cold! It was doubly bad, since I haven’t had any kind of a cold for years now; to the best of my recollection it has been over 6 years since I had a cold that lasted longer than one day. I am just almost never sick, which I ascribe to my lifestyle and nutrition. But not this time! In fact, I am broadcasting this on a Thursday, when I always broadcast on Wednesdays- I have for years now. However, yesterday, I was pretty much without a voice. But then, last night, I finally slept the night through with no coughing, and today I feel great. It was awful, as I’m sure you can all relate. But, I’d like to interject here: I also have a new website, called http://www.jaywalkjaytalk.com This at least I could kind of do while still being sick, but I would have enjoyed it much more if I had been well… but, this site, along with its accompanying blog, is a bit different from www.paleojay.com This is more philosophical, more political, more writing oriented (I’m writing books now), and even some music is involved. I want to demonstrate how to walk the talk, not just to talk it. Tales and discussions around the paleo campfire, if you will. Putting you in touch with great ideas, both of how to live healthily, but also how to live well, morally, and with a purpose. We all “works in progress”, but here we will term it walks in progress. Just what should we do on this walk through life? It really is the ultimate question, and we will explore it on http://www.jaywalkjaytalk.com And now, let’s go back to PQTD: I listened to a podcast just today, now that I no longer need it (this time!), by Chris Masterjohn about preventing colds. He goes into everything in excruciating scientific detail, but basically he identified exactly what type of zinc lozenge actually works, by keeping the cold virus from replicating itself. It is Enhanced Zinc Lozenges which you can get here: http://http://www.lifeextension.com/Vitamins-Supplements/item01961/Enhanced-Zinc-Lozenges?utm_source=cj.com&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_term=01961&utm_content=catalog&utm_campaign=Products Years ago, I used to use zinc lozenges after reading about it. The first time I did it, it actually worked! So, I bought a supply of an orange flavored variety to use, and tried it repeatedly… it never worked, if anything I got sicker than ever. (This was way back before beginning my healthy paleo lifestyle and diet, and so I did get sick just about yearly). It turns out that those candy-flavored ones don’t actually work- you need to take the type with zinc acetate, that taste not-too-good, but actually work! Chris explains that in his podcast, which you can find here: https://chrismasterjohnphd.com/podcast/ But, for the rough outline, all you need to know is to slowly dissolve a capsule in your mouth for at least 20 minutes at the very first sign of a cold. You can repeat throughout the day a few times, and that should do it- kill your cold! If you’ve been healthy a long time, as I have, you might be thinking: “Oh, big deal- a cold!” Let me tell you, a bad cold really sucks, and pulls the joy out of a week of your life. If you can avoid it by such an easy method, why not!? I ordered my Enhanced zinc lozenges, and feel empowered whenever the cold virus shall strike! And so I recommend to you, my tribal friends. And you know what else I discovered? If you work out pretty much every morning, as I do, stretching, doing strength and mobility work along with pushups, hindu squats and situps- you come to take for granted just how good you feel! It seems like a birthright, and when you hear others complain of sore backs, and heads, and shoulders, and- well, just about everything, you think they are making it all up, or at least exaggerating. They are not! After a week of being able to do little other than some lackadaisical stretching

JAYWALK即“JAYBIRD WALK IN THE HEAVEN。

"If you're shaped like a potato, don't also have a small dick." -Walker Glenn It's the holiday season you maniacs! Just in time for your long trip home from visiting your idiot families, it's a new episode of JayWalking to save you from the stresses, trials, and tribulations of the cold winter months! So loosen your belt, pour yourself a spiked egg nog or a delicious hot toddie and get ready to JayWalk your way through another wacky hour of jibber-jabber! In this episode, Walker needs to be taken down a notch from his recent rocket ride, a beloved retired segment from the past is resurrected to the shock of the nation, Jason challenges Ray-J to a kickboxing match, and as always, Jason and Walker review recent scientific literature with their unblinking refusal to ever shy away from the frank discussion of male sexuality. (Frankly it's a little more frank than usual! (To be totally Frank, it's goddamn disgusting))Enjoy! (Comments, questions to jaywalkingpodcast@gmail.com)(Important links for this ep include friends of jaywalking, this podcast, this you tube video, this scientific study, friends of jaywalking at this blog, and friends of jaywalking BOAT) (some names have been changed to protect the innocent)(this musical project and this musical project are also mentioned and are both amazing. as always, frequently check sneal)
