Jeff shares his journey through the highs and lows of being a professional athlete, overcoming adversity and his dedication to achieving optimal performance physically, mentally and emotionally. Not only does Jeff's story highlight the power of limiting beliefs and how connecting to the mind and body are critical for overcoming obstacles and achieving goals, but also he shares his personal story related to alcohol, the effects it had on his life before alcohol freedom and the tragic effects alcohol had on his brother's life. And hear why he says that freedom from alcohol is less about the duration of time and more about the depth of self-discovery involved. Also hear Jeff share his brother, Erik's story and battle with drug and alcohol addiction, highlighting how you don't have to be in actual prison to be imprisoned when it comes to the power of our minds. Jeff's insights from his own life and through that of his brother's, emphasize the prospects of change at any stage in life and how the pain endured contributes to personal growth and freedom. We are so grateful for Jeff's vulnerable and generous sharing in this episode and for the inspiration we know it provides for anyone listening who is feeling stuck in the cycle of over-drinking. In this Aww Shift Podcast episode, our guest is Jeff Salzenstein, former Top 100 ATP tennis player, performance coach, and Founder of Tennis Evolution. Jeff was at the tennis world's precipice but realized that being committed to other people is his purpose. Today, Jeff dives into his professional tennis and entrepreneurial journey. [03:56] Why should I listen to you? I have dedicated my life for the last 20 years, whether as an athlete, coach, or entrepreneur, to wear many hats of different perspectives to help people in need. [05:11] What sets you apart? My parents divorced when I was a child. I am on my own, independent, and had to learn my way in the world. I chose tennis, a sport that taught me how to solve a problem, figure things out, and how to be tough in between the lines. [09:38] I was at a crossroad. Here I was, a 33-year-old athlete chasing this dream, lonely, not making a lot of money, and injured. I asked myself, “Why am I doing this?” I started coaching as a tennis coach, but it was my avenue of practicing my language and communication. I am an innovator, and I saw things ahead of the curve. [18:19] Legacy Integrity is the most important word for me. Be remembered for how you treated people, how you lived your life and the integrity behind it. It might feel good to be recognized as the best coach globally, but the best legacy you can leave is how you share your message to the world authentically and with integrity. [23:21] What promise did God make to the world when He created you? To make difference with kindness. Key Quotes: [03:20 – 03:29] “I am perceived as a high performer but I had limiting beliefs. I had things that held me back at those moments in the big stage.” [11:36 – 11:43] “There is no blueprint. I had no business plan or raised any money. I start to work, dig while mess things up and figure things out.” [24:30 – 24:39] “Follow what you are passionate about and believed in. It might change many times but follow what your calling is.” Learn more about Jeff Salzenstein on: Website: https://tennisevolution.com/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jeffsalzenstein/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/jeffsalzenstein Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jeffsalzenstein/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/jeffsalzenstein

"If anybody has a dream or a passion to start something that is the key. You just have to start and you just have to get going and just take one step at a time." This week's guest is former ATP pro and CEO of Tennis Evolution, Jeff Salzenstein. His tennis story is a special one as he reached exactly No. 100 in the ATP rankings at the age of 30, then started a successful YouTube channel helping teaching tennis to thousands of people. Salzenstein was a top-ranked junior in Colorado before going to Stanford where he'd work his way up to play at No. 1. After school, he gave himself three years to make it as a pro, but serious ankle and knee injuries ruined his timeline. Instead of giving up, he kept chasing his dreams and would win five ATP Challenger titles and reach a career-high ranking of exactly No. 100 in 2004. The feat made him the first-ever American to break into the Top 100 after the age of 30. After retiring a few years later, he put all his focus into coaching back home in Colorado. In 2010, he started Tennis Evolution, an online destination for tennis lessons and coaching videos with a YouTube channel that has more than 85,000 subscribers. Every day he uses his decades of playing and coaching experience to help players of all ages and abilities in Colorado and all over the world online. After three losses in major finals, Dominic Thiem triumphed in Sunday’s US Open final against Alexander Zverev, becoming the first new grand slam champion since 2014, and the first player in the open era to come back from two sets to love down in a major final. The match was riddled with nerves from both players. The tennis was not beautiful, but the psychological struggle made for quite the spectacle. I discuss what this means for both players career moving forward, examine the momentum swings in the match, and what ultimately separated Thiem from Zverev in a tight 5th set. To finish things off, I discuss the match with Jeff Salzenstein of tennisevolution.com.
On this week’s Monday Match Analysis, I bring on Jeff Salzenstein of tennisevolution.com to analyze the serve of Alexander Zverev. His return to play at the Adria Tour has been marred with double faults, something we’ve seen periodically over the last 18 months. The German clearly has the yips on serve, a crippling mental state, but the problems are also technical. We also discuss Grigor Dimitrov’s positive Covid-19 test, the cancellation of the Adria Tour and Novak Djokovic’s silence so far.

On Episode 97 of The Tennis Files Podcast, I discuss why it is so critical to understand our body's physical limitations and talk about some really helpful principles that I learned at a RacquetFit seminar that I attended recently. Many players think they can just copy the exact strokes of the pros and hit shots like Federer, but unfortunately it isn't that simple.... We have to know our body's capabilities to achieve our true tennis potential, and this is what RacquetFit is all about. My mind was blown by what I learned at the RacquetFit seminar, and to say that I really enjoyed both learning about the body-tennis connection, taking a deep dive into the serve and meeting so many fantastic people at the event would be an understatement. Several of the best tennis coaches and experts on the planet and podcast/summit guests such as Jeff Salzenstein, Dr. Sean Drake, Dr. Greg Rose, and Dr. Mark Kovacs are teaching the world about RacquetFit and bringing advancements from other sports to our game. On this episode, I'll give you the inside scoop on the most important principles I learned at the RacquetFit seminar and why RacquetFit is going to change the way we coach and learn the game. ParentingAces - The Junior Tennis and College Tennis Podcast
Jeff Salzenstein has been involved in tennis pretty much his entire life. In Season 8 Episode 3, Jeff shares his tumultuous junior career, going from #1 in the 12's to #69 in the 16's, eventually making his way to the Stanford Men's Tennis Team playing for the inimitable Dick Gould. After giving the pro tour a go then getting side-lined by multiple injuries, Jeff moved into coaching, developing a variety of online platforms to reach players around the world. Today, his focus is the power of language and the power of communication and how to help others improve. How you talk to yourself, how you communicate as an influencer, and how we're being "programmed" by our larger community are all aspects of Jeff's work as a coach. Simply becoming aware of how you speak with your child is Step One of improving communication. Not just the words but also the tone of voice can impact how your junior interprets what you're saying. As parents and coaches, we have to model good communication for our children so they will grow and develop into better communicators as adults. Jeff offers some concrete advice on how we can hone our skills in this arena. Thank you to my son, Morgan Stone, aka STØNE, for our new intro and outro music this season! There, he continues to create the highest-quality tennis instructional videos possible. I can speak from experience, having purchased both a fitness course and a tennis serve course from Jeff. Both these courses surprised me with the number of videos and how much value each one provided. My interview with Jeff was one of the best episodes I've had so far on The Tennis Files Podcast. Jeff answered each question with amazing insight, and I learned so much from speaking with him. I definitely encourage everyone to check out Tennis Evolution.
