Jeremy Guthrie knows the connection between the design of baseball cleats and that of baseball gloves. Since his retirement from professional baseball in 2017, Jeremy has worked to make Custom Cleats the premier location for athletes looking to convert sneakers to athletic cleats. His keen eye for footwear started in his youth with an appreciation of the Jordan 1 sneakers that his older brother's middle school basketball team rocked one winter. From there, he was always on the quest to grab the latest footwear from Nike. Fast forward to late high school and Jeremy found himself as a premier pitching prospect for Major League Baseball teams. From there he embarked on a journey in which he was drafted three times and eventually landed with the Cleveland Guardians (at that time the Indians). During his grind through the minor leagues, he decided to refresh some of his equipment. He ended up changing his glove to model the Rawlings glove worn by Red Sox legend and Cy Young winner, Pedro Martinez. New glove in hand, Jeremy went on to start over 270 games across parts of 13 MLB seasons and he never wavered from that model of glove.During his run in pro baseball he crossed paths with the company, Custom Cleats. They converted a number of pairs of sneakers into cleats for him during his career and in 2015 as his Kansas City Royals were competing in the World Series, Jeremy signed a deal to own a portion of Custom Cleats. And since retiring he has become the sole owner of Custom Cleats. As the baseball glove market grows each and every year, it shows a lot of signs that it is becoming something similar to that of the sneaker market. The desire to draw attention to a glove due to its look and design continues to increase. As well, gloves are being collected as pieces of art nowadays separate from their ability to defend balls on a baseball field. We hope this interview with Jeremy profiles both the sneaker and glove industries and sheds light on their similarities!Check out Jeremy's Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/therealjguts/Check our Custom Cleats' Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/customcleats/Visit the Custom Cleats Site: https://www.customcleats.com/Shop gloves from JustGloves: https://www.justballgloves.com/Questions or Suggestions?E-mail: experts@justgloves.comToll Free Telephone: 1-866-321-GLOV (4568)We hope that you enjoy Beyond The Glove! The Mets traded Eduardo Escobar over the weekend, and he'll surely be missed — a great vibes guy who lost his job to Brett Baty and just didn't have a place on a team that needs a shakeup. FOGO MODE forever, and let's bid Escobar farewell with his home run chain.* Eduardo Escobar hit his first home run off Jeremy Guthrie, 4/9/13* Jeremy Guthrie gave up his first home run to Omar Infante, 9/14/04* Omar Infante hit his first home run off Kyle Lohse, 9/10/02* Kyle Lohse gave up his first home run to Dean Palmer, 6/22/01* Dean Palmer hit his first home run off Rick Honeycutt, 6/27/91* Rick Honeycutt gave up his first home run to Graig Nettles, 8/31/77* Graig Nettles hit his first home run off Denny McLain, 9/6/68Denny McLain connects us to the Omar Narváez home run chain… which was the last We Can Pod It Out post. But… what an achievement for Nettles, hitting the first home run of his career against the major leagues' last 30-game winner. Thing is, McLain not only won 31 games in 1968, he gave up a major league-leading 31 homers, too. In 41 starts, McLain allowed 86 runs, of which 48 came on dingers. That means an average of less than a run per game against him on non-homers… and 10 of those 38 runs were unearned.McLain gave up three homers to Reggie Jackson in 1968, and two apiece to Frank Howard, Tony Horton, Rich Reese, and Pete Ward — the last of whom hit the only grand slam against McLain that year.In addition to Nettles, players who took McLain deep in ‘68 included Boog Powell, Sal Bando, Bobby Cox, Harmon Killebrew, Rico Petrocelli, Joe Pepitone, and Orioles pitcher Dave McNally. Plus, near the end of the season, McLain gave up Mickey Mantle's 535th career home run — the last of Mantle's 42 at Tiger Stadium, his most at any visiting park. The following day, September 20, Mantle hit his last dinger, No. 536, back at Yankee Stadium (where he hit 266 homers), off Boston's Jim Lonborg. This is a public episode. Very busy Tuesday edition of GCR. The NBA might not be happening after all and Rob Manfred is not a popular man after his comments on ESPN. Early in the show, former Orioles pitcher and MLB rep Jeremy Guthrie joined us to explain what these types of negotiations are like and why it's difficult for players to give up anything even in an odd one year capacity. Later in Hour 1, we met Orioles 5th round pick Carter Baumler-the high school pitcher from Iowa who the Birds were able to get by going over slot. Early in Hour 2, Maryland legend Len Elmore joined us to discuss the decision that faces NBA players regarding whether returning to play would simply be a distraction from the #BlackLivesMatter issue at hand. At the bottom of Hour 2, our friend Ross Grimsley checked in to further discuss the issue facing MLB players and we wrapped the show by chatting with Baltimore's own Brian Jordan (Milford Mill) about being with the Cardinals during the Summer of 1998 (as seen in "Long Gone Summer"), how he views what happened in light of the push against steroids as well as whether black baseball players should push for players to consider not playing right now.

Extreme Genes - America's Family History and Genealogy Radio Show & Podcast
In Fisher's opening segment, Fisher reveals that many listeners indicated they had direct ancestors who died in their teens and 20s. In Family Histoire News, Fisher talks about Jeremy Guthrie, a Japanese-American who recently pitched in the World Series for the Kansas City Royals. Guthrie was on an All-Star tour of Japan and used a day off to connect with distant cousins his family had never met. Hear how it all came together. Next was the story of a mother and daughter who both gave birth on the same day! Then, hear about the few dozen children of Civil War soldiers who are still among us, and their memories of their fathers. It's amazing to think it's even possible, but it is! David Allen Lambert of the New England Historic Genealogical Society then joins Fisher to talk about the War of 1812. Did you know that service of only a couple of weeks could get you a pension for that war? David is loaded with great information on the war itself, as well as what records are currently available and which ones are coming on line. Then, Andria Cranney of the General Society of Mayflower Descendants talks about the first Thanksgiving, and just what the Pilgrims actually ate! How would your Thanksgiving be with no football, and plate full of eel?! Andria's description is of a Thanksgiving like none of us have ever experienced. Make sure your kids catch this one! Then, Tom Perry, the Preservation Authority, talks about where technology is going for preserving your digital records. Quantum Physics is now coming into play. (It's way over Fisher's head!) Wait until you hear what Tom has to say! That's this week on Extreme Genes, America's Family History Show!

This week, we discussed a few Royals news and notes as we wait for spring training to arrive. First, we talked about Jeremy Guthrie's contract restructuring and what it means for the 2014 Royals. At the time, it seemed like a change that might have bigger impacts down the line (and still could), but after reflection, Mike saw it as more of a clerical move, but was hopeful that it might mean another acquisition could happen. Jeff interpreted it as a way to kick back some money to ownership this year. We also discussed other theories. Then, we brought up the minor league signings of Brad Penny and Guillermo Mota and wondered if they have anything left in the tank. The Royals like to try out reclamation projects, and these two fit that description. Where does Penny fit in the rotation competition? What are the odds he makes the team? And how would Mota fit into an already stacked bullpen? After pondering those questions, we talked briefly about salary arbitration and which cases were still unsettled. We also talked about Baseball America's top ten Royals prospects, including a name you don't hear about very often, and we brought on Chris Kamler for a moment to add some nonsense to the show. Kamler has been helping Troy put together a video for the MLB Fan Cave that urges everyone to #VoteRoyalman. You can see that video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Y9BHkL-qGw #MLBFC2014
BYU Cougar and Kansas City Royal pitcher Jeremy Guthrie joins the show, along with guru of college ball stats Ken Pomeroy, and USF's Pat Olsen.
After the blockbuster trade of Wil Myers (plus) for James Shields and Wade Davis, we had to go out and get another opinion on the trade. To do that, we consulted Joel Goldberg of Fox Sports Kansas City. He's excited about the deal and feels that James Shields is a strong pitcher at the top of the rotation and his argument is laid out pretty well. He also touted the clubhouse abilities of Shields and how he may work with Jeremy Guthrie and Jeff Francoeur in that role as leader. It's an interesting discussion about aces, prospects, Twitter reactions, stats vs. scouts and all sorts of baseball topics tied into one transaction.
As the hot stove warms up, it was time to cover the latest roster moves by the Royals in advance of the Winter Meetings in Nashville. We covered all of the moves the Royals made to clean up their 40 man roster and the arbitration offers they made to their eligible players. We also discussed the Jeremy Guthrie deal and the value behind it, both as a contract and in relation to the Royals staff in 2013 and beyond. In light of David Glass's latest comments, we had to discuss the payroll for 2013 and Glass's idea of what the Royals can spare this year. The numbers don't seem to add up... Oh - but we didn't stop there. We talked about Wil Myers, James Shields, R.A. Dickey and trade rumors, as well as what to look for during the winter meetings this week. At the end, we have an interview with J.J Cooper of Baseball America who compiled his list of the Royals top 10 prospects to get his take on the state of the Royals system.
Jason Martinez of MLBDepthCharts previews the offseason of the Kansas City Royals, who could be two reliable starting pitchers away from being a force in the American League.
If the Royals aren't going to be in a playoff race, the least we can do is talk about it with someone whose team is. Nick Schaefer from FanSided's Southside Showdown joined us to talk about the White Sox division lead and their struggles against the Royals this year. In 18 games, the White Sox only scored 52 runs, leading to a 12-6 head to head advantage for the Royals. Nick had his theories. We also talked about some of the Royals needs this offseason and continued to guess at the solutions for pitching next season. Nick offered his insight on Jake Peavy and his concern that the White Sox will try to keep him. We brought up Jeremy Guthrie, Edwin Jackson and Brandon McCarthy as potential options. We finished up with some discussion of the Royals successful months (yes, there were some), and if it means anything. To his credit, Nick assured us that it'll all be better soon. We'll see about that ...
In the latest episode of the Kansas City Baseball Vault, we tried to settle on the value of Jeremy Guthrie, the fate of Luke Hochevar and discussed why Wil Myers isn't going to be called up this September. That led to discussion about service time, the Rule 5 draft and Super Two status as well as what to look for this offseason as the Royals figure out their 40 man roster and who to offer arbitration. We also checked in on the playoff status of the Omaha Storm Chasers, Wilmington Blue Rocks and Burlington Royals. Check us out on Youtube. Youtube.com/RoyalmanReport
The Royalman Report welcomed a kindred spirit this week as we brought LuchadOriole, A.K.A. Neil Moorhouse to the program. Neil is an Orioles SuperFan and spoke about the genesis of his character, how it's been embraced by Baltimore and the Orioles and the chances for the O's this season.
