A listener question sparked today's discussion about the relationship between the internet, culture, and societal transformation. While social media and online platforms appear to accelerate cultural change at unprecedented speed, this episode explores whether what we are witnessing is genuine transformation or simply faster-moving opinions and visibility. Drawing on sociology, systems thinking, and examples ranging from environmental movements to changing attitudes around sexuality and identity, the discussion unpacks the difference between opinions, attitudes, values, and worldviews, and why some forms of cultural change endure while others quickly reverse. The conversation also explores how culture sits between structure and agency, shaping both institutions and human behaviour simultaneously, and why the internet may be amplifying surface-level shifts far more rapidly than deeper societal transformation itself. For changemakers navigating an increasingly fast-moving digital world, this episode offers a grounded framework for understanding what truly creates long-term cultural change, and why some of the most important forms of transformation still take decades to unfold.
After about two months on the job, Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin has shifted the agency's immigration enforcement efforts toward tactics that generate fewer headlines but still result in mass deportations. Only about a third of Americans now believe a four-year college degree is worth the cost. Increasingly, students and families are questioning it too. As many colleges across the country face shrinking enrollment, more than 60 institutions are now offering students a faster path to graduation. Welcome to episode 369 of Growers Daily! We cover: today we're gonna try to speed up your onion endeavors, we'll talk celery leaf curl and pill bug/roly poly management (specifically in the celery, but also everywhere) and crop planning for success… ions. We are a Non-Profit!
Episode Description In this episode, we talk about the strange feeling that time is speeding up. Days that used to feel full now disappear before we even get our bearings, and somehow 24 hours feels more like 16. Is this just what happens as you get older, or is there something deeper going on? We get into the psychology of time, how routines and responsibilities change our perception, and why life can start to feel like it's moving faster than we can keep up with. We also entertain the more out-there possibilities… because honestly, it does feel a little suspicious. Sponsor - EarthRunners We absolutely LOVE our EarthRunners in the Morrow household. A jar of peanut butter almost ends a marriage… and somehow becomes the perfect opener for a conversation about what's happening to adolescence right now.In this episode of Parents of the Year, Andrew and Caroline unpack what ADHD expert Dr. Russell Barkley calls “early arrival, late departure”: kids hitting adult ideas sooner (thanks, screens) while independence shows up later (thanks, anxiety, money, and over-helping). They talk milestones that are fading (driving, first jobs, even babysitting), why “checklist parenting” can quietly shrink confidence, and what it looks like to raise teens who can handle inconvenience, criticism, and disappointment without melting down. You'll leave with practical ways to step back without checking out: handing over real-life tasks (appointments, banking, transit), modelling purposeful phone use, and trying Stephen Covey's “Green and Clean” method to build responsibility at home—without turning your house into a nag-fest.Keywords: parenting teens, adolescence, Gen Z, Gen Alpha, screen time, executive function, independence, ADHD, Russell Barkley, life skills, overparenting, helicopter parenting, snowplow parenting, “curling” parenting, rites of passage, resilience.Homework activities for adults (to support kids/teens) + resourcesHomework 1: The “Say it out loud” phone habit (7 days)Every time you pick up your phone near your kids, narrate your purpose in one sentence: “I'm checking the weather.” “I'm texting Grandma back.” “I'm doing Duolingo.” Kids copy what they think we're doing—this makes your use visible and intentional.Resource: create a note on your phone titled “Why I'm on my phone” with 6–8 common reasons so it's easy to stick with.Homework 2: Hand over one real-world task this weekPick one:book a dentist/doctor appointmentcall the bank about a card issueplan a transit route to the mall/friend's houseorder their own replacement item online (with a budget)Your job: be nearby, don't do the talking, don't grab the phone “to speed it up.”Resource: a simple script card in Notes:“Hi, my name is ___.”“I need to ___.”“My availability is ___.”“Can you repeat that?”“Thanks, have a good day.”Homework 3: Build frustration tolerance on purpose (tiny reps)Once this week, don't rescue a minor inconvenience:let them re-pack the forgotten itemlet them email the teacher about a missed deadlinelet them solve the “wrong bus / wrong stop” problem with you on standbyAim for small stakes. In this solo episode, Darin dives into one of the most universal modern experiences: the feeling that time is accelerating. Drawing from neuroscience, psychology, cognitive science, and lived experience, he breaks down why time doesn't actually speed up, but our experience of it radically changes. From the impact of digital distraction and divided attention to the way novelty, memory, aging, and even COVID reshaped our internal sense of time, this episode offers both clarity and agency. Darin shows how reclaiming attention, breaking monotony, and creating richer experiences can give us the feeling of having our time back. What You'll Learn Why time measured by a clock is different from time experienced by the brain How attention, memory, and emotion construct subjective time Why boredom feels slow while flow states feel fast How novelty creates richer memories and longer-feeling lives The role of routine and monotony in time compression How digital technology fragments attention and erases memory Why social media scrolling makes time disappear without satisfaction How COVID disrupted temporal landmarks and distorted time perception Why time feels faster as we age The neuroscience behind memory density and perceived duration Whether time itself is an illusion or a constructed experience Practical ways to slow down your experience of time How breaking routine restores a sense of fullness and presence Why life is measured in experiences, not seconds Chapters 00:00:03 – Welcome to SuperLife and the exploration of time 00:00:32 – Sponsor: TheraSage and frequency-based healing 00:02:16 – Why time feels like it's speeding up 00:03:07 – Measured time vs experienced time 00:03:39 – Subjective time and how the brain constructs duration 00:04:38 – Boredom, flow, and why time feels slow or fast 00:05:20 – Memory density and time compression 00:05:42 – Clock models vs attention and memory models 00:06:13 – Novelty, travel, and rich experiences 00:06:34 – Routine, repetition, and unremarkable days 00:07:21 – Divided attention and disappearing moments 00:07:56 – The digital shift and fragmented attention post-2000 00:08:30 – Micro-stimulation and wasted time 00:09:12 – Why scrolling doesn't equal flow 00:09:46 – Social acceleration and modern life 00:10:25 – COVID as a global experiment in time perception 00:10:55 – Loss of temporal landmarks during lockdown 00:11:57 – Sponsor: Caldera Lab and clean skincare 00:13:39 – Research on monotony and time compression 00:14:40 – Aging, fewer neural events, and faster time 00:15:30 – Childhood vs adulthood time perception 00:16:22 – Is time real or constructed? 00:16:57 – Physics, relativity, and subjective experience 00:17:56 – How to slow down your experience of time 00:18:12 – Novelty, adventure, and memory creation 00:19:00 – Sustained attention vs multitasking 00:19:37 – Breaking monotony in daily life 00:20:06 – Reducing digital distraction 00:20:25 – Enjoying life as a scientific practice 00:20:49 – Time as memory, not seconds 00:21:08 – Gaining agency over your experience of life 00:21:29 – Creating a richer year through experience 00:22:10 – Curiosity, adventure, and Darin's fascination with time 00:23:27 – Closing thoughts and call to action Thank You to Our Sponsors Therasage: Go to www.therasage.com and use code DARIN at checkout for 15% off Caldera Lab: Experience the clinically proven benefits of Caldera Lab's clean skincare regimen and enjoy 20% off your order by visiting calderalab.com/darin and using code DARIN at checkout. Today's arms race looks a little different from those of the past. Under the Trump administration, the US Department of War (DoW) is deploying generative AI to millions of employees in order to maintain a strategic edge over our global adversaries. Sarah Guo and Elad Gil sit down with Emil Michael, the Under Secretary of War for Research and Engineering of the United States, to discuss the radical technological transformation of the US military. Emil outlines the architecture and launch of GenAI.mil, a DoW internal AI platform powered by Gemini and Grok that reached over one million unique users in its first 30 days. He also highlights critical technology priorities for national security, including hypersonics, direct energy, and autonomous drone swarms. Together, they also explore the urgent need to rebuild the American defense industrial base and end dependency on foreign supply chains for critical materials, as well as how Emil is recruiting the next generation of “fixer-builder” workers to serve their country in government. Many factors of modern life can make time feel like it's moving faster than it actually is: hustle culture at work, a productivity compulsion at home, over-programmed kids – they're all attempts to get as much as possible out of our time and keep up with the frantic pace of life. But life also has moments where time feels like it's slowing down, or even stops. We know that time can't actually slow down or speed up – but why does it feel like that? The Globe's time use reporter, Zosia Bielski, speaks to The Decibel about why our perception of time can change, what it is about this particular moment that's making us feel so pressed for time and how we can take back control of the pace.Questions? In this episode, I break down why the holiday season is actually one of the BEST times to get ahead in multifamily real estate. While everyone else is coasting, checking out, eating cookies, and waiting for January to "feel motivated," you can be sharpening your skills, getting in front of brokers, tightening your buy box, reviewing deals, building your credibility tools, and setting yourself up to dominate in 2026. I share real stories from my journey — including offering on deals on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day — and explain why the investors who stay focused during this season separate themselves from the pack. You'll learn: • Why December creates opportunity • How brokers and sellers behave during the holidays • What moves to make now to jumpstart your 2026 • How to use December to build momentum while everyone else sleeps • Why tough months build tough investors • The simple inflation math that can add $159K+ in value to a $1M property without lifting a hammer • Why waiting for January kills momentum • How to show brokers you're serious even during the slowdown If you're serious about buying multifamily, this episode is your wake-up call. David Bromberg didn't want to start a company, and he didn't want to work at a big one. So after completing his Ph.D. at Carnegie Mellon, he left for California and a job at a solar energy startup. Two years later, though, David returned to Pittsburgh to co-found a company with his Ph.D. advisor – an international expert in integrated circuit design -- and another colleague. Pearl Street Technologies developed software that automated and accelerated the grid interconnection process for renewable energy projects. The company was acquired in early 2025 by Austin, Texas-based Enverus. Midwest Moxie's executive producer is Audrey Nowakowski. She produced this episode. Nonprofits want the speed of automation and the promise of AI—but Alicia Eastvold, Department Leader for Client Technology Solutions at Your Part-Time Controller (YPTC), explains why many orgs stall at the starting line: messy, bloated, and fragmented data. Her central thesis is simple and powerful: “We can't speed things up if it's not organized, and we can't write simple rules around it for where it belongs.” From the first minute, Alicia reframes “data hygiene” away from fear and toward usefulness—think Marie Kondo for systems: keep what serves the mission, archive the rest, and label everything so your “smart assistant” can actually find the hammer.Alicia maps two common failure modes: too much information (endless, unreadable reports) and poor structure (the same concept scattered across donor CRM, accounting, and spreadsheets). Both grind automation to a halt and produce costly mistakes in grant allocations, budgets, and forecasts. Her practical fix: decide what you need going forward, set a cutoff, inactivate legacy categories, and build simple, durable rules that can run 1,000 times. As she puts it, “Think big about what would happen if I had to do this thing a thousand times and plan your process that way.”A standout story: a client wanted a complex custom payroll allocation tool. After examining their cluttered chart and inconsistent rules, the team cleaned the system, documented clear rules, and discovered an off-the-shelf cost allocation tool that did the job at a fraction of the price. Takeaway: better structure often beats bespoke code. The stakes are real. Misallocations can snowball into seven-figure problems, finger-pointing between development and finance, and restricted funds that can't be used where they're most needed. Clean, rule-based data unlocks credible budgeting, forecasting, and the ability to ask funders for the right dollars—including flexible, unrestricted support. It also fuels data storytelling that boosts trust and investment: when leaders visualize program costs, funding gaps, and outcomes with clarity, credibility skyrockets.Bottom line: start today. Choose what matters for the next 12–24 months, archive the past, enforce naming and categorization rules, and think like an enterprise—no matter your size. Clean data returns time to your people, turns AI from buzz to utility, and powers decisions that move the mission! #TheNonprofitShow #DataHygiene #NonprofitAutomationFind us Live daily on YouTube!Find us Live daily on LinkedIn!Find us Live daily on X: @Nonprofit_ShowOur national co-hosts and amazing guests discuss management, money and missions of nonprofits! 12:30pm ET 11:30am CT 10:30am MT 9:30am PTSend us your ideas for Show Guests or Topics: HelpDesk@AmericanNonprofitAcademy.comVisit us on the web:The Nonprofit Show

Story at-a-glance Both insomnia and sleep medication use independently increase disability risk in older adults, affecting basic activities like dressing, bathing and walking Research tracking 6,722 older adults found that even mild increases in sleep troubles predicted greater physical disability in the following year Using sleep medications worsened disability outcomes rather than improving them, with the combination of insomnia plus medication causing the steepest decline Complete darkness during sleep is important, as even small amounts of light disrupt melatonin production and interfere with your body's natural sleep signals Nondrug approaches like eliminating electromagnetic field (EMF) sources, avoiding blue light after sunset and regular daytime movement provide safer alternatives to sleep medications
On the podcast today we have Felix Arntz who discusses speculative loading, a new WordPress 6.8 feature designed to make websites faster by preloading pages before users navigate to them. Felix explains how it works, why WordPress uses a conservative default setting for broad compatibility, and how more eager configurations are possible with plugins or code. The episode also covers how performance gains, though seemingly small, add up at scale and are carefully measured using large datasets. Felix highlights the balance between speed improvements and environmental considerations, and shares insights into the data-driven work of the WordPress Performance Team. If you've ever wondered how large-scale, browser-level improvements make their way into WordPress Core, or simply want to know if there's a way to make your own WordPress site that much faster, this episode is for you.
At Stripe's Sessions conference this week, Mark Zuckerberg pitched what he calls the “ultimate business machine”: a fully automated, end-to-end AI ad engine promising to replace agencies, creatives, and media buyers. You just need to connect your bank account first. Zuckerberg claims this could be one of the most valuable AI systems ever built, generating thousands of image ads and testing them in real time, but it raises a bigger question: is this the future of advertising, or just another wave of AI slop flooding your feed? Today, on TechCrunch's Equity podcast, hosts Kirsten Korosec, Max Zeff and Anthony Ha are unpacking why Zuckerberg's vision could be a marketer's dream or creative agency's worst nightmare, and what else caught our eye in tech this week. Listen to the full episode to hear about: How Google's Gemini 2.5 Pro managed to beat Pokémon Blue. Max was unimpressed, but the Equity crew thinks gamifying AI benchmarks might be the way to go. The countertop robot that handles some parts of cooking for you, with emphasis on some Uber's continued push into autonomous vehicles and what Waymo's doing in the mix A new venture from Brian Armstrong that just raised $130 million to develop cutting-edge age-reversing treatments, and who else is using AI to help us live forever Equity will be back next week, so stay tuned!
