This week Tom & Zeus open Shout It Out Loudcast's Season 7 by reviewing the 1977 legendary live album, KISS Alive II! KISS was perhaps at highest peak in 1977, commercially and musically. They decided to follow the same formula as they did previously. So after Alive, they released three more studio album and now they wanted to release their second live album, KISS Alive II! This live album would not have any songs from the previous live album, so KISS Alive II would not be an actual real concert. The new songs from Destroyer, Rock And Roll Over & Love Gun would only make up 3 sides, so the band decided to add 5 new tracks to complete the double album. The cover of KISS Alive II is known for the images of the band members, the inserts and perhaps the greatest gatefold in vinyl history. For many in the KISS Army this album was the album that solidified their KISS fandom. Fans are often split between Alive vs Alive II. This is SIOL's 10th live album review. The guy's breakdown the album, the tracks and of course Paul Stanley's stage banter as well. They list their top 5 favorite live tracks and rank the cover and the album against the 7 live albums by KISS that were previously reviewed. They also rank the 5 new tracks as well. This episode is filled with rankings, bold claims and analysis done SIOL style. So alright Love Gun! Singing popular cover songs can be a lot of fun; it's a fantastic way to get your audience's attention while also allowing you to show off your talent and personalize the song.In today's episode, we are joined by Brian Hollenbeck, also known as Brian HBK. He is a member of Hairball, a band that covers songs on another whole level and his position is bass/vocals. It's safe to say HBK was bitten by the music bug at a very early age. His home growing up was filled with music. Many hours were spent lying on the living room floor in front of the stereo speakers playing records by people like Three Dog Night, The Beatles, Foreigner, and many others. His uncle played him KISS Alive II, then he heard Led Zeppelin and that was it…there was no turning back. He dreamed of getting to play and sing in front of people. He joined his first bar band at the age of 15 and has had the privilege of playing on different stages across North America ever since. Tune in to this podcast now and learn how to cover songs without losing your own trait as an artist.Highlights:[00:22]A Typical Day for Brian[01:45]What is hairball and how do they work? [11:26]Brian's First Experience with Music[25:21]What year did he start playing in a band?[29:25]What is his main musical influence?[32:43]Geek Questions For Brian Links:Website:https://hairballonline.com/homeFacebook:Brian HBKTwitter:Brian HBKYoutube:HBK Music

This week Tom & Zeus review the 1996 Live Compilation, KISS Album, "You Wanted The Best, You Got The Best!" The album title comes from the famous line shouted prior to KISS concerts. The album is currently celebrating its 25th anniversary. The album was meant to coincide with the KISS reunion and their soon to be legendary Alive/Worldwide Tour. The album consists of 13 tracks made up of several KISS Klassic Live cuts from KISS Alive & KISS Alive II and 4 "supposedly" new live deep cuts, Room Service, Two Timer, Let Me Know and Take Me. However, the 1996 overdubs maybe more than just slight overdubs. The final track, which is odd, is a interview with former Tonight Show host, Jay Leno. The guys breakdown the tracks, the selections and the "interview" and then rank the new tracks. The guys then rank the album and cover versus the previous 2 Live Albums reviewed by SIOL. Released in 1976, KISS Alive! changed the fortunes of KISS and transitioned them from a strong opening act to an international headliner. This success forced the band to come up with the goods in the studio and they were up to the task with Destroyer, Rock & Roll Over and Love Gun. These records gave us songs that would strengthen KISS's hold on the public and allow them to tour for decades.  Alive II captures the best songs from the catalog with the band at the height of their powers before success and excess changed the band forever. It's overlooked vs. Alive! but stands on it's own and the test of time.

Asylum: Tales of the Devereaux Diaries

The Kousins talk about the 1977 bombastic "live" Klassic, "KISS Alive II." They talk track listing, the era that the album represents, the age-old live vs overdubbed debate and Gary and Marvin throw hard questions at Tim in Mr. Speed's Trivia. Plus... why not five more "live" tracks? Why not another studio album after "Alive II?" Sometimes, we guess you can't get it "Any Way You Want It."

On this episode of SFTF I have a long chat with Drew Traulsen, punk rock DIY machine, dad and college educator. We discuss the similarities between The Mars Volta and Megadeth, how specific elements of a song can make all the difference, how "punk rock" is and is not defined and how "Kiss Alive II" led to a life long love for music of all shapes and sizes. Drew currently runs Jester Records (https://jester1992.bandcamp.com) and is the driving force behind KZFR's Revolutions Per Minute Radio Program which can be found here: http://kzfr.org/shows/rpm. This one runs a little long (and that's after editing it down quite a bit), but the conversation is a good one and the songs are pretty top notch as well with music from John & Jackie The Eyes Born Without a Face The Mars Volta The Atom Age Virus Hope you dig it.
