Prima di lasciare la terra, Gesù parla per l'ultima volta, affidando ai suoi Discepoli l'incarico di evangelizzare tutte le genti, dicendo: «Andate in tutto il mondo e proclamate il Vangelo a ogni creatura. Chi crederà e sarà battezzato sarà salvato, ma chi non crederà sarà condannato» (Mc 16,15-16). È questo il mandato missionario che Gesù ha lasciato alla sua Chiesa e che fedelmente dobbiamo eseguire, affinché tutti conoscano il Vangelo e abbiano la Vita eterna.Da una parte l'Ascensione del Signore ci invita a innalzare il nostro pensiero alle realtà celesti, distaccandolo dalla terra; dall'altra parte siamo invece chiamati a non rimanere inerti, in una passiva attesa del ritorno del Signore, ma a edificare il Regno di Dio nel mondo. A ciascuno di noi è stato dato un dono particolare da mettere a servizio di questa opera. Così, nella seconda lettura di oggi, san Paolo scrive che Dio «ha dato ad alcuni di essere apostoli, ad altri di essere profeti, ad altri ancora di essere evangelisti, ad altri di essere pastori e maestri» (Ef 4,11). Non è certamente un elenco completo: i compiti sono diversi come diverse tra loro sono le anime.Dunque, se in poche parole vogliamo sintetizzare il messaggio di questa solennità, possiamo dire che, alla luce dell'Ascensione del Signore, siamo esortati a innalzare i nostri cuori al Cielo e a poggiare bene i nostri piedi a terra, adoperandoci per la diffusione del Vangelo nel mondo intero. Ci vuole la contemplazione e ci vuole l'azione. Questi due elementi vanno sempre insieme. Le sorti di questo mondo non si migliorano nelle discussioni, nelle riunioni, nelle pianificazioni, ma innalzando il cuore al Signore e attingendo da lui la luce e la forza per operare e per diffondere il bene nel mondo.L'Ascensione non ha separato Gesù dalla sua Chiesa. Anche se è salito al Cielo, Egli continua ad essere sempre con noi. «Egli non si è separato da noi, ma ci ha preceduti nella dimora eterna, per darci la serena fiducia che dove è lui saremo anche noi, uniti nella stessa gloria» (dal Prefazio). Fin da adesso pensiamo spesso a questa gloria che ci attende nei Cieli. In Gesù risorto e asceso al Cielo, noi contempliamo quella che sarà anche la nostra meta finale. La festa di oggi ci insegna che non siamo stati creati per questa terra, ma per il Paradiso. Solo lì i nostri cuori troveranno la vera pace. Qui giù ci sarà sempre qualcosa per cui penare, e questo Dio lo permette per farci desiderare ancor più ardentemente il Cielo.Tante volte viviamo come se dovessimo rimanere qui tutta l'eternità. Non pensiamo a sufficienza alla vita eterna e rischiamo di farci trovare impreparati all'incontro eterno con Gesù. Il nostro pellegrinaggio terreno si potrebbe paragonare a una lunga ascensione: dobbiamo raggiungere la vetta, e ciò richiede tutto il nostro impegno. Più facile sarà scendere, ma noi siamo chiamati a raggiungere le vette dell'amore di Dio. Più il nostro bagaglio sarà leggero, tanto più agevolmente riusciremo a salire e a raggiungere la cima. Per questo motivo, san Francesco d'Assisi volle vivere nella povertà, per non essere ostacolato da nulla nel suo slancio verso l'alto.In questa ascensione non dobbiamo perdere di vista la vetta da raggiungere. All'inizio il cammino è agevole, ma, quanto più ci si avvicina alla vetta, tanto più l'ascesa si fa ripida e il respiro affannoso. Se prima si ammirava la bellezza del panorama, quando si è ormai vicini alla meta non si guarda che la cima, ogni altra cosa sembra scomparire. La fatica aumenta sempre di più, ma il desiderio di giungere in vetta si fa sempre più grande e, quando finalmente vi si giunge, si è al colmo della gioia. Sembra quasi che quanto più abbiamo faticato, tanto più siamo felici. Ai nostri occhi estasiati si aprono orizzonti meravigliosi e il mondo sotto di noi sembra ormai tanto piccolo. Si vorrebbe rimanere lì a lungo e si intuisce che il mondo non potrà mai appagare pienamente il nostro cuore.Chiamati a guardare in alto, tante volte noi non riusciamo a staccare lo sguardo da terra. Impariamo dai santi, i quali, passando per molte prove e tentazioni, sono saliti molto in alto e hanno raggiunto la cima immacolata dell'amore di Dio. Si racconta che, quando era ancora bambino, san Francesco di Sales spesso era assorto, tutto preso dai suoi pensieri, e, quando il padre gli domandava a cosa stesse pensando, egli rispondeva: «Penso a Dio e a farmi santo».Pensiamo anche noi a Dio. La preghiera è stata giustamente definita come l'«elevazione della mente a Dio». Ogni volta che pregheremo in modo autentico, eleveremo la nostra mente e il nostro cuore, staccandoli dai lacci di questa terra.Pensiamo a Dio e fissiamo il nostro sguardo alla vetta!

Film piuttosto atteso e piuttosto godibile, fedelmente tratto da un romanzo breve breve ma intenso intenso di Domenico Starnone, che ha curato pure la sceneggiatura, insieme a Francesco Piccolo.Lo spunto arriva da qui, da quei lacci effettivi e figurati, concreti e metaforici.
