On this week's episode, I'm very pleased to be joined by Ric Roman Waugh, the director of the new film Shelter, starring Jason Statham. We talked a lot about making that movie and how he best utilized Statham's skills as opposed to Dwayne Johnson's in the movie Snitch or Gerard Butler's in the Greenland films, Kandahar, and Angel Has Fallen. Shelter, which is in theaters now, is a little more meditative than some of Statham's recent work, though no less effective for it. We discussed why Statham was attracted to the part and how his fatherhood helped inform his role as the protector of an orphaned young girl. Then we discussed making the transition from stuntman to director: Waugh worked with Tony Scott on a number of pictures, and had some interesting insights into the methods of the great action director. And I'd be lying if I said I didn't have to practically restrain myself from just doing 30 minutes on Waugh's Shot Caller, a gritty prison drama.oo

In the first Greenland movie, Greenland turned out to be more than just possibly the future 51st state of the United State Of America. It was a refuge for those who survived the trip, and got there before a planet-killing meteor hits Earth. Now with “Greenland 2: Migration”, it's been 5 years since that meteor, named Clarke, hit. The refuge seems to be getting much closer to its expiration date, and fast. Our protagonists, the Garrity family, led by John Garrity, played by Gerard Butler, are suddenly thrust into a cross-country trip to find another refuge. Kinda sounds like the first movie. Is it worth going to the theater to check it out? Find out in this episode of Movies Merica! “Greenland 2: Migration” also stars Morena Baccarin, Tommie Earl Jenkins, Trond Fausa, Amber Rose Revah, Gina Gangar, Antonio De Lima, Peter Polycarpou, Beruce Khan, Roman Griffin Davis and Gordon Alexander. Support the showFeel free to reach out to me via:@MoviesMerica on Twitter @moviesmerica on InstagramMovies Merica on Facebook

064 - Greenland 2: Migration Green;and (2020) was such a surprise, even more so because of the Pandemic.  It's a movie that understands what it was trying to be very well- a very emotional yet action packed story about a family who found each other again who fight to stay together amidst a world ending event.  It's a story of survival and hope in the face of tremendous loss.  The score by David Buckley was excellent is capturing the haunting and tragic side of humanity as it fell apart- most notably people forced to say goodbye to one another, knowing an impending doom was close behind. Enter Greenland 2: Migration which did none of this even remotely as well as the original.  It's a hollowed out, poorly researched, and soulless version of what should have been another haunting tale of survival and hope.  2026 deserved to start off better than what this movie allows for.  Disappointment, thy name is Greenland 2: Migration.  0:00:00 - Introductions and Banter 0:12:30 - Box Office  0:25:00 - Movie Recommendation- Greenland, Dir. Disaster movies are built to end things. Cities collapse, the planet cracks open, and whatever survives crawls out into the credits. Sequels are supremely rare because escalation usually feels beside the point. But “Greenland 2: Migration” exists because director Ric Roman Waugh never viewed the first film as a one-off thrill ride. For him, it was always the opening chapter of a single emotional story about family, survival, and legacy. The sequel again follows the Garrity family as they must leave the safety of the Greenland bunker and embark on a perilous journey across the decimated, volatile wasteland of Europe in search of a new home. The film stars Gerard Butler, Morena Baccarin, Roman Griffin Davis, William Abadie, and more.On this episode of The Discourse, host Mike DeAngelo is joined by director Ric Roman Waugh to discuss why “Migration” was never conceived as a traditional sequel, how emotion allows spectacle to breathe, reuniting with Gerard Butler for their fourth collaboration, and balancing franchise expectations with the fear of repetition.

Welcome back to another year of BEHIND THE LENS and BTLRadioShow!! I'm excited to be back and kick off Year 12 of #BTLRadioShow and am beyond thrilled to start the new year with a very special guest and talk about the absolute 'Must See' film of 2026. And that guest is none other than my friend of 40+ years – director RIC ROMAN WAUGH – and that film is GREENLAND 2: MIGRATION. Action, deep palpable emotion, practical in-camera action, explosions. His films are always emotionally layered and capture all the shades of grey, both sides of the coin. And now with the next chapter of "Greenland", GREENLAND 2: MIGRATION, Ric tops his own level of excellence with more depth, humanity, and breathtaking action than ever before. Gerard Butler and Morena Baccarin are back as John and Allison Garrity, and Roman Griffin Davis steps in as their now 15-year-old son, Nathan. You may remember Roman Griffin Davis from his scene-stealing performance in Taika Waititi's "JoJo Rabbit". Just before Christmas, Ric and I had the opportunity to chat about GREENLAND 2: MIGRATION. Now, any of you who have heard our prior conversations know that we can chat for a long time. LOL! This go round, we were only given about 30 minutes, but we covered quite a bit into Ric's vision and directorial process for this film. http://eliasentertainmentnetwork.com

This week, we discuss two American prison films. The first is Shot Caller, a crime thriller written and directed by Ric Roman Waugh. The film chronicles the transformation of a well-to-do family man, played by Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, into a hardened prison gangster trying to survive California's brutal penal system after he is incarcerated for his role in a deadly DUI car accident. The second is O.G., a drama directed by Madeleine Sackler and written by Stephen Belber. The film stars Jeffrey Wright as a man preparing to reenter civilian life after 26 years in prison. Discourse around the film has been overshadowed by the director's family and their role in the ongoing opioid epidemic in the USA.   Timestamps What we've been watching (00:01:05) –  Wicked, Taken, Lilo & Stitch, 21 Bridges, Home Alone, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, Alien vs. Predator, The Holiday, Leave the World Behind, The Day of the Jackal, Felon Shot Caller (00:36:40) O.G. We're getting FUBARed with fun and action this week on #BTLRadioShow thanks to our very special guest, the incomparable and hilarious SIMON PHILLIPS, and his role in the new Netflix action comedy series FUBAR starring Arnold Schwarzenegger in his first television series. And as if Simon and FUBAR aren't enough for you, how about my prerecorded exclusive interview with director RIC ROMAN WAUGH talking about his new film starring Gerard Butler, KANDAHAR! It is always a good time when SIMON PHILLIPS and I start chattering, so kicking things off and having him back live on #BTLRadioShow this week was a real treat. And as you'll hear, what a time we had talking about FUBAR and soooo much more! Simon is always working, be it acting, writing, or producing so for him to make time for our show means a lot. Listen as we bounce back and forth among Simon's various projects and films, always coming back to the fun of FUBAR. A key thing about FUBAR is that Simon's role and his one-on-one interaction with Arnold really set the tone for what's to come in the entire eight-episode series. But beyond FUBAR, we dive into some of Simon's projects, his approach to acting and selection of roles, upcoming films already set to release in 2023, and how about his dream to now round out his co-starring with action heroes by getting involved in Ric Roman Waugh's upcoming "Cliffhanger 2" with Stallone. A lot of laughs and a lot of insight in this conversation with Simon. And speaking of RIC ROMAN WAUGH and action, we've got plenty of it with Ric's latest film, KANDAHAR, starring Gerard Butler. Starring Gerard Butler along with Ali Fazal, Navid Negahban, Travis Fimmel, Tom Rhys Harris, and Bahador Foladi, just to name a few, with script by Mitchell LaFortune and under Ric's directorial eye, KANDAHAR is the story of undercover CIA operative Tom Harris (Gerard Butler) who is stuck deep in hostile territory in Afghanistan. After his mission is exposed, alongside his Afghan translator Mo (Navid Negahban), the two must make their way to an extraction point in Kandahar, some 400 miles away, all the while avoiding multiple enemy forces and foreign agents with ever-changing alliances, all of whom are out to extinguish Harris. Plus, you'll hear a proud father talking about having his sons with him on set, stepping in to learn the craft, just as Ric and his brother Scott did with their dad. And how about some tidbits on “Cliffhanger 2”???? http://eliasentertainmentnetwork.com

This week on On Story we're joined by director Ric Roman Waugh for a post-screening deep dive into his newest action thriller, Kandahar. Formerly an actor and stuntman who appeared in countless films, including Universal Soldier, The Last of the Mohicans, and Lethal Weapon 2, Waugh is certainly no stranger to action. Now known for his work as a writer, producer, and director, Waugh utilizes his background in stunt work to create many of today's leading thrillers, such as Felon, Snitch, Shot Caller, and Angel Has Fallen, serving on all as writer and director. Recently in 2020, Waugh directed Greenland, a disaster thriller starring Waugh's frequent collaborator, Gerard Butler, which follows the story of John Garrity, who must save the United States from imminent destruction by a comet. Waugh's newest action thriller, Kandahar, was written by former U.S. Military Intelligence Officer Mitchell La Fortune, and follows the journey of undercover CIA operative Tom Harris, who along with his translator must flee hostile territory in Afghanistan after their covert mission is exposed. Both starring and produced by Gerard Butler, the film is based on LaFortune's own experience serving in Afghanistan during the 2013 Snowden leaks. Never short on suspense or excitement, Kandahar is a high-stakes race against time, set against the complex political background of the War on Terror. So sit back - or, well more likely on the edge of your seat - as Barbara Morgan sits down with director Ric Roman Waugh to talk all things Kandahar. Clips of Kandahar courtesy of Open Road Films.

A Gerard Butler nightcap that'll have you shaking your drink from the tension, this movie really surprised me. It overachieves in every way. Reportedly made for a 35 million dollar budget, it looks like a 100 million dollar film. A seemingly familiar premise is enlivened by a smart narrative tweak and incredible, carefully calibrated, maximum suspense at every turn. I was sleeping on Greenland, and I shouldn't have been (director Ric Roman Waugh and writer Chris Sparling are two of my favorites, not to mention it has a great late-game cameo by another favorite of mine, Holt McCallany). Let me know what other Gerard Butler films I should do for this little series at dan@voyagemedia.com, @BenamorDan (Twitter) or watch_this_tonight (Instagram).
