This week, we discuss two American prison films. The first is Shot Caller, a crime thriller written and directed by Ric Roman Waugh. The film chronicles the transformation of a well-to-do family man, played by Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, into a hardened prison gangster trying to survive California's brutal penal system after he is incarcerated for his role in a deadly DUI car accident. The second is O.G., a drama directed by Madeleine Sackler and written by Stephen Belber. The film stars Jeffrey Wright as a man preparing to reenter civilian life after 26 years in prison. Discourse around the film has been overshadowed by the director's family and their role in the ongoing opioid epidemic in the USA. Escuchar audio

We're getting FUBARed with fun and action this week on #BTLRadioShow thanks to our very special guest, the incomparable and hilarious SIMON PHILLIPS, and his role in the new Netflix action comedy series FUBAR starring Arnold Schwarzenegger in his first television series. And as if Simon and FUBAR aren't enough for you, how about my prerecorded exclusive interview with director RIC ROMAN WAUGH talking about his new film starring Gerard Butler, KANDAHAR! It is always a good time when SIMON PHILLIPS and I start chattering, so kicking things off and having him back live on #BTLRadioShow this week was a real treat. And as you'll hear, what a time we had talking about FUBAR and soooo much more! Simon is always working, be it acting, writing, or producing so for him to make time for our show means a lot. Listen as we bounce back and forth among Simon's various projects and films, always coming back to the fun of FUBAR. A key thing about FUBAR is that Simon's role and his one-on-one interaction with Arnold really set the tone for what's to come in the entire eight-episode series. But beyond FUBAR, we dive into some of Simon's projects, his approach to acting and selection of roles, upcoming films already set to release in 2023, and how about his dream to now round out his co-starring with action heroes by getting involved in Ric Roman Waugh's upcoming "Cliffhanger 2" with Stallone. A lot of laughs and a lot of insight in this conversation with Simon. And speaking of RIC ROMAN WAUGH and action, we've got plenty of it with Ric's latest film, KANDAHAR, starring Gerard Butler. Starring Gerard Butler along with Ali Fazal, Navid Negahban, Travis Fimmel, Tom Rhys Harris, and Bahador Foladi, just to name a few, with script by Mitchell LaFortune and under Ric's directorial eye, KANDAHAR is the story of undercover CIA operative Tom Harris (Gerard Butler) who is stuck deep in hostile territory in Afghanistan. After his mission is exposed, alongside his Afghan translator Mo (Navid Negahban), the two must make their way to an extraction point in Kandahar, some 400 miles away, all the while avoiding multiple enemy forces and foreign agents with ever-changing alliances, all of whom are out to extinguish Harris. Plus, you'll hear a proud father talking about having his sons with him on set, stepping in to learn the craft, just as Ric and his brother Scott did with their dad. And how about some tidbits on “Cliffhanger 2”???? http://eliasentertainmentnetwork.com
This week on On Story we're joined by director Ric Roman Waugh for a post-screening deep dive into his newest action thriller, Kandahar. Formerly an actor and stuntman who appeared in countless films, including Universal Soldier, The Last of the Mohicans, and Lethal Weapon 2, Waugh is certainly no stranger to action. Now known for his work as a writer, producer, and director, Waugh utilizes his background in stunt work to create many of today's leading thrillers, such as Felon, Snitch, Shot Caller, and Angel Has Fallen, serving on all as writer and director. Recently in 2020, Waugh directed Greenland, a disaster thriller starring Waugh's frequent collaborator, Gerard Butler, which follows the story of John Garrity, who must save the United States from imminent destruction by a comet. Waugh's newest action thriller, Kandahar, was written by former U.S. Military Intelligence Officer Mitchell La Fortune, and follows the journey of undercover CIA operative Tom Harris, who along with his translator must flee hostile territory in Afghanistan after their covert mission is exposed. Both starring and produced by Gerard Butler, the film is based on LaFortune's own experience serving in Afghanistan during the 2013 Snowden leaks. Never short on suspense or excitement, Kandahar is a high-stakes race against time, set against the complex political background of the War on Terror. So sit back - or, well more likely on the edge of your seat - as Barbara Morgan sits down with director Ric Roman Waugh to talk all things Kandahar. Clips of Kandahar courtesy of Open Road Films.

James Gunn confirms that the Superman reboot project, potentially with a Black lead, is still a possibility despite the announcement of Superman: Legacy. The project could happen as an Elseworlds tale if the script and timing are right. Sylvester Stallone will reprise his role in a sequel to the 1993 movie "Cliffhanger," directed by Ric Roman Waugh and produced by Neal H. Moritz's Original Film, Stallone, and Braden Aftergood's Balboa Productions. Amazon Freevee will add more hit TV shows and movies to its lineup of original Prime Video content available for free, including The Summer I Turned Pretty, Reacher, The Wheel of Time, A League of Their Own, The Terminal List, Paper Girls, Goliath, The Tick, Homecoming, Upload, and The Vast of Night. The revival of the animated series "King of the Hill" is underway, with table reads already in progress, and the original voice cast returning. The revival is expected to feature a time jump. -------------------- *Check Out All Our Podcasts!* Geek Freaks Podcast: https://linktr.ee/GeekFreaks Disney Moms Gone Wrong: https://linktr.ee/disneymomsgonewrong Challenge Accepted: https://linktr.ee/challengeacceptedgf Headlines: https://tinyurl.com/2p8bvu6d Level Up!: https://linktr.ee/PushingButtonsPodcast TrekFreaks: https://linktr.ee/TrekFreaks Geek Freaks Interviews: https://linktr.ee/GeekFreaksInterviews Outlast Podcast: https://linktr.ee/OutlastPodcast Round Three: https://linktr.ee/RoundThree From The Pages: https://www.patreon.com/GeekFreakspodcast -------------------- *Hang Out With Us!* Discord: https://discord.gg/6Jrvyb2 Twitter: twitter.com/geekfreakspod Facebook: facebook.com/groups/227307812330853/ Instagram: instagram.com/geekfreakspodcast E-mail: thegeekfreakspodcast@gmail.com Twitch: twitch.tv/geekfreakspodcast Site: geekfreakspodcast.com --------------------- *Support Us!* Patreon: https://patreon.com/GeekFreakspodcast Store: redbubble.com/people/GeekFreaks
A Gerard Butler nightcap that'll have you shaking your drink from the tension, this movie really surprised me. It overachieves in every way. Reportedly made for a 35 million dollar budget, it looks like a 100 million dollar film. A seemingly familiar premise is enlivened by a smart narrative tweak and incredible, carefully calibrated, maximum suspense at every turn. I was sleeping on Greenland, and I shouldn't have been (director Ric Roman Waugh and writer Chris Sparling are two of my favorites, not to mention it has a great late-game cameo by another favorite of mine, Holt McCallany). Let me know what other Gerard Butler films I should do for this little series at dan@voyagemedia.com, @BenamorDan (Twitter) or watch_this_tonight (Instagram). The album is a heartfelt tribute to the great female singers throughout history, particularly some of Kristin's heroes and friends. Guest artists include Ariana Grande, Dolly Parton, Jennifer Hudson and Reba McEntire. The album includes Chenoweth's personally charged interpretations of classic songs identified with such iconic artists as Barbra Streisand, Lesley Gore, Linda Ronstadt, Dinah Washington, Dolly Parton and more. To celebrate the release of her new album “For The Girls,” Chenoweth returned to the Broadway stage in November 2019, for an eight-performance concert engagement at the Nederlander Theatre. Chenoweth has performed to sold-out audiences across the world, including performances at Carnegie Hall and Royal Albert Hall. Chenoweth released “The Art of Elegance,” her album of American Songbook classics via Concord Records. The album debuted at #1 on Billboard's Current Jazz and Traditional Jazz charts, and #1 on Amazon's Vocal Pop chart. Chenoweth also returned to the stage in her limited engagement MY LOVE LETTER TO BROADWAY, at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre, receiving rave reviews. In 2014, she released a CD and DVD of her own live concert performance, “Kristin Chenoweth: Coming Home.” Last December, Chenoweth performed with iconic The Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra in their annual Christmas concert. The concert aired on PBS and BYUtv in December 2019. In 2015, Chenoweth earned a Drama Desk Award, Outer Critics Circle Award and Broadway.com Audience Choice Award for her lead role in the Roundabout Theatre Company's “On the Twentieth Century.” She also earned nominations for a Tony Award and a Drama League Award.

This week on On Story we'll join veteran screenwriters Shane Black and Ric Roman Waugh as they discuss what it takes to write and direct a big-budget blockbuster. Considered one of the pioneer screenwriters of the action genre, Shane Black made his mark with his 1987 screenplay, Lethal Weapon. Black went on to pen the screenplays for such films as Nice Guys, Iron Man 3, Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang, and the latest addition to the Alien vs. Predator franchise: Predator. Ric Roman Waugh is a former stuntman, director, writer, and producer, known for his work in Felon, Snitch, and Shot Caller. He wrote and directed the third installment of the Has Fallen series, Angel Has Fallen in 2019, and is currently in production of Night Has Fallen, the fourth installment in the series. Moderator Harrison Glaser spoke with Shane and Ric at the Austin Film Festival

Screenwriter Myron Ward joins the show for SHOT CALLER, Ric Roman Waugh's ordinary-guy to gang-kingpin prison drama, starring Nikolaj Coster-Waldau from GAME OF THRONES, Omari Hardwick from POWER, Jon Bernthal aka maybe the best actor ever, Jeffrey Donovan, Benjamin Bratt (out-mustaching everyone) and an almost unrecognizable Holt McCallany (from MINDHUNTER). This is a legitimately great movie that has heart beneath its pulpy premise. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/dan-benamor/support

Football Is Family is part of the https://sportshistorynetwork.com/ (Sports History Network - The Headquarters For Your Favorite Sport's Yesteryear). New York Giants Growing up in the 80’s, I remember two things about the New York Giants. First, they were really good on Tecmo Bowl. Second, Lawrence Taylor was a beast. This is a team that has an amazing history. Founded in 1925 by Tim Mara for a $500 investment, the Giants have seen a lot of ups, and a lot of downs. They have won 4 Super Bowls (been to 5), and 4 NFL championships (played in 15 total championship games) before the Super Bowl era. They were the team to defeat the undefeated New England Patriots in 2007(which many Dolphins fans are still thankful for). They were also part of the game that really catapulted the NFL into national prominence. Like many of the early NFL teams, the Giants were not very profitable. If you are a fan of the Giants, you owe a lot to the Chicago Bears. When the Bears came to town in 1925, led by Red Grange, 73,000 people paid to see him play. That allowed the Giants to actually make money, thus allowing them to stay a franchise. Overall (as of 2020), the Giants have 702 regular season wins, 618 regular season loses, and 33 regular season ties. They boast 32 Hall of Famers. Fun facts - They were part of the Greatest Game Ever Played (1958 NFL championship against the Baltimore Colts). - They played a charity game against the Notre Dame All-Stars in 1930 - In the 1934 championship game against the Bears, the field was so bad due to cold weather that cleats wouldn’t work. At halftime, the Giants made the decision to play in sneakers. They had to go to Manhattan College and use their basketball players’ shoes. The Giants won the game as a result of changing shoes. - Don’t ask Giants’ fans about any miracle in the Meadowland. www.wikipedia.org https://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/nyg/ https://www.profootballhof.com/heroes-of-the-game/franchises/ Gerard Butler, Morena Baccarin, and Scott Glenn star in the Rotten Tomatoes Fresh, pulse-pounding disaster thriller GREENLAND.

From Austin Film Festival this is On Story, a look inside the creative process from today’s leading creators, writers and filmmakers. Ric Roman Waugh is a director, writer, producer, and former stuntman. As a writer/director, Waugh’s work include Felon, Snitch, and Shot Caller. In 2019, he co-wrote and directed Angel Has Fallen, the third film in the Fallen film series, with Gerard Butler reprising his role as Secret Service agent Mike Banning. In 2020, Waugh directed the apocalyptic disaster film Greenland, which also stars Butler as a family man trying to find sanctuary from a planet-killing comet that threatens to destroy Earth. I spoke with Waugh about the film after an advance screening in Austin, Texas.
Inexplicably given no America cinema release, despite being one of THE most 2020 films imaginable and easily making back it's budget with low-key overseas box office, Greenland is the latest - and one of the best - end of the world/societal collapse movies to feature annihilation by meteor and the best of its kind since Deep Impact. Ric Roman Waugh is a director who has quietly amassed a filmography I have a lot of time for in the prison dramas, Felon and Shot Caller plus rescuing the franchise with Angel Has Fallen. This is his best yet and stars Gerard Butler - whose accent wanders so far from America to Scotland they literally end up talking about kilts.

Welcome back to the Rock 'n Roll Ghost podcast. This week, the Ghost speaks with director Ric Roman Waugh (Felon, Snitch, Shot Caller, Angel Has Fallen) about his new film, Greenland, starring Gerard Butler (300, the "Fallen" trilogy), Morena Baccarin (Deadpool, TV's V, Gotham and Homeland) and Scott Glenn (The Right Stuff, Backdraft). The film details a family's struggle to survive an impending asteroid collision. Despite the numerous "end of the world" films of recent memory, Greenland stands out for its dramatic situations rather than for its visual/CGI "spectacle." Both Butler and Baccarin deliver strong performances showing a family in deep crises. In the interview, Waugh discusses the making of the film, specifically putting it together in the wake of Covid-19. He also talks about working with legendary filmmaker Tony Scott as a stuntman on many of the late, great director's films. Greenland is set to make it's debut in U.S. theaters on Friday, September 25th. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/brett-hickman/support

First I would like to thank Matt, for his wonderful short movie that is Lobster. I really enjoy his work on my way to Birmingham as I got into the wrong train and discover the onboard entertainment platform. One option was full of shorts movies, and I devoured them all, well most of them during the 1hour and a half journey. I love the narrative, the cinematography, the grading, and paste. Really great work and I hope to see more of his creativity soon. Matt studied graphic design and photography, worked as Assistant Director on This is England, you have worked on commercial projects for Barclays, Vodafone, Budweiser, Fiat and Samsung and many more. Matt also directed ‘Trimming the Fat’ starring Matthew Horne (Gavin & Stacey) for BBC Films, wrote and directed ‘Straw Donkey’ starring Joe Thomas (The Inbetweeners). This episode with Matt Huntley was inspiring to me, and if you into filming or thinking of directing your very own short movie one day, then this episode may bring you some lights or advice. I really enjoyed the conversation, Matt is a lovely bloke and a very nice person with such a calm and soothing voice, I hope to buy him a pint soon and chat further. I hope you will enjoy it too. I ask Matt. How many awards and reviews did Lobster get in the end? I count about 15. When did you decide, or when you knew you wanted to be a director? Was this your first choice for your life? How did it take you till you could live from what you love doing? Did you have a part-time job at the start? The idea for the movie is down to your personal crushes you had when I kid on summer camp holiday, where was that, in the UK? So when did you decide to do lobster? What the script wrote itself from memories, how many drafts did you do till the final draft was ready for filming? Matt Lobster is running just over 5 minutes, how much filming does this actually represent in days or weeks? Was it fun? stress-free or a nightmare to put together? What is your favorite work? Any new future you’re excited about right now? What would say to inspire young directors out there in terms of advice of getting their career off the ground? Do you have any morning routine? What do you do to relax? Do you meditate? Any books you recommend? Any movies, documentary, or series you recommend? This week on On Story we’ll hear from filmmaker Ric Roman Waugh on his latest film, Angel Has Fallen. And later, we’ll hear from Bloodline co-creator Todd A. Kessler on his Netflix- original family drama. His latest film, Angel Has Fallen is the third installment in the Fallen film series, following Olympus Has Fallen and London Has Fallen. The film stars Gerard Butler, Morgan Freeman, Jada Pinkett Smith, Nick Nolte and Danny Huston. I spoke with Waugh during a special screening of the film earlier this year. "Angel Has Fallen" director Ric Roman Waugh discusses why he lives in Austin, what he wanted to do with this film and how PTSD can manifest in different ways for different people.
Ric Roman Waugh got his start as a stuntman. Working on films like ‘True Romance’ and ‘Days of Thunder,’ he got to know experts like Tony Scott and Jerry Bruckheimer, which led to him writing and directing films like ‘Felon,’ ‘Snitch,’ and ‘Shot Caller.’ Now, he’s in the director’s chair for the third installment of the Gerard Butler trilogy, ‘Angel Has Fallen.’ In the new film, “Secret Service Agent Mike Banning is framed for the attempted assassination of the President and must evade his own agency and the FBI as he tries to uncover the real threat.” Along with Butler, Morgan Freeman returns and additional cast includes Danny Huston and Piper Perabo. In this exclusive interview, Waugh discusses why he writes every single day, his focus on moral ambiguity in storytelling, advice from Jerry Bruckheimer, how to walk the line between franchise and stand-alone movie, why the theme of a script is everything in filmmaking, and he shares a few details about his upcoming apocalyptic film, ‘Greenland,’ which also stars Gerard Butler. First up is JASON AXINN, director/editor of the killer graphic novel style animated TO YOUR LAST DEATH. Calling live from London fresh off the film's World Premiere, Jason talks about everything from the 2D hand-drawn animation to voice casting (William Shatner!!), to creating the visual look and meld of animated graphic novel styles, developing character and more. Not only Jason's first feature directorial, but first animated feature, Jason is candid about the journey to bring TO YOUR LAST DEATH to life. Next up is writer/director JUSTIN WARD who talks about his charming and fun new film RELISH. Justin goes in-depth talking about cinematographer Bryan Koss and the development of the film's visual tonal bandwidth and suiting it to the story themes; casting an incredibly talented ensemble of young actors and developing individual traits while defying character tropes, Eric Swanson's editing, and the talented Rio Mangini doing double duty as one of the film's ensemble leads and composer of the film's score. And how about this bit of irony for you - Academy Award winning sound editor Mark Mangini (and a former guest on #BTLRadioShow) will be doing a Q&A at the September 8th event. And if the name "Mangini" sounds familiar, it's because we just finished talking about Mark's son Rio and his work on RELISH! Second half of the show finds writer/director /documentarian JANICE ENGEL on hand talking about her latest documentary, the kick-ass, RAISE HELL: THE LIFE AND TIMES OF MOLLY IVINS. This week on BEHIND THE LENS we take an up close and personal look at two narrative features making their World Premiere at DANCES WITH FILMS, plus it's all about Forky with Disney and Pixar's TOY STORY 4! Joining us LIVE in the first half of the show is Writer/Director BRETT BENTMAN who's on hand to talk about his new film 90 FEET FROM HOME which makes its world premiere at DWF on June 20th. An emotionally powerful film that draws you in from beginning to end, take a listen as Brett talks about bringing this true story to the big screen, the film's themes, the challenges of finding the perfect cast (which he has done beautifully) and what each brings to their respective roles and the film as a whole (more Shawn Michaels, Adam Hampton, and Thom Hallum, please!), Anthony Gutierrez' rich cinematography and their collaborative influences for the film's visual tonal bandwidth, and more! And then Writer/Director/Editor/Cinematographer MARCUS MIZELLE is back with us LIVE talking about his new film CHAMELEON which also makes its world premiere at DANCES WITH FILMS on the 22nd. Last time Marcus was on #BTLRadioShow we talked about the comedy "Actor For Hire". This time it's the thriller CHAMELEON. While we devote plenty of time to Marcus' crafting of CHAMELEON with casting and cinematography, editing, an intricate timeline that fuels the tension and the story twists and turns, sound, and the film's score, Marcus also gives great insight based on his experience in the film industry. Having worked on set in a multiplicity of capacities, honing his skills as he moved into directing, Marcus talks about the value of getting on set and doing whatever job there is and learning the ropes. He's got some wonderful words to say about working with the late great cinematographer Vilmos Zsigmond, as well as one of my favorite people, director Ric Roman Waugh. But before Brett and Marcus join us, we're talking TOY STORY 4. I've said it before and I'll say it again, TOY STORY 4 is perfection!! And we'll talk a bit about why, plus hear from Tony Hale with his thoughts on voicing one of the new additions to the world of TOY STORY - FORKY! http://behindthelensonline.net http://eliasentertainmentnetwork.com
