Crafty Adventures Watercolors are still keeping my creative attention. Loving it! Knitting in Passing On a July 3 MBTA ferry commute, I sat with a crocheter. We talked about our projects and fav LYSs. I showed her how simple magic loop knitting is. Laura brought socks to her client David when she got back to NY. He sent me a photo asking if they were Cashmere because they were so soft and noting how great they looked with the pants he had on. Then I got a pic of his foot under his desk at work the next day. (Ravelry Project Page) On July 7, a man chatted with me on the Red Line about memories of his mother, sisters and daughters crocheting. Emelyn has been wanting to crochet again but is feeling rusty. On July 4th I reminded them how to single & half-double crochet. Last weekend, they started a star project so we worked with DC and how to work corners and getting used to reading a pattern. The haunting melody ‘My Lagan Love' accompanies this Psalm's plea for the listening ear of the loving God who is “Lord of All,” words kept from the original lyrics by Joseph Campbell. This Psalm expresses lament from a place of weariness deepest longing to be saved from the grave, and turns to God for guidance on the way forward, recalling also God's deep love and goodness.Continue your reflections with the accompanying journal, which includes further questions for reflection and some invitations to prayer and practice.Paid subscribers receive a free journal PDF, or you can purchase a paperback versionVisit the Celtic Psalms website for scores/books, mp3s, CDs, and videos for Love is Lord of AllFind out more about the Habits for the Spirit course: an 8-week online course exploring habits and daily spiritual practices to promote wellbeing in body, mind, and spiritFollow Kiran's monthly reflections on Bless My FeetPsalms for the Spirit is a reader-supported publication. Depicting a vision for what this world could be, this Psalm, set to the Scottish tune ‘Lovely Molly,' imagines love and mercy (or truth or faithfulness, in other translations), justice and peace coming together to greet and kiss. This rendition of the Psalm continues to unfold that vision of the future as one in which God's goodness and kindness are evident, healing takes place, and the people will sing.Continue your reflections with the accompanying journal, which includes further questions for reflection and some invitations to prayer and practice.Paid subscribers receive a free journal PDF, or you can purchase a paperback versionVisit the Celtic Psalms website for scores/books, mp3s, CDs, and videos for Love and Mercy Find out more about the Habits for the Spirit course: an 8-week online course exploring habits and daily spiritual practices to promote wellbeing in body, mind, and spiritFollow Kiran's monthly reflections on Bless My FeetPsalms for the Spirit is a reader-supported publication. Sometimes Holy Week can feel like an afterthought. We spend all of Lent looking forward to Easter, just wanting to hurry through this final week to get to the “good stuff.” But we need to remember: there is no Easter without Good Friday. There is no resurrection without the suffering and death. Take a moment to realize that Christ died for you. Even if you were the only person on the planet, He still would have embraced His cross. Don't overlook Holy Week. It's where the transformation takes place. Join us in the pew to reflect on the divine love story of Holy Week. For the sixth consecutive year, along with Intel Corporation and the Portland Metro STEM Partnership, HSD will celebrate National Engineers Week - a celebration of all things engineering with an emphasis on bringing engineering to life for students. Intel volunteers will visit fourth-grade classrooms on February 23rd and 24th to lead students in a fun, hands-on STEAM project, Lunar Lander, from Intel Future Skills. Look for more information and pictures in next week's Hot News. As part of Love the Bus Month, the School Board proclaimed Wednesday, February 22nd School Bus Driver Appreciation Day! Please take a moment to let your bus driver know how much you appreciate them! HSD families are invited to our first annual Multilingual Night from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 23rd at South Meadows Middle School to learn more about multilingual programs at our middle and high schools. Information will be provided about students' success, challenges, and ways you can support them at home. Dinner and prizes will be available. Hot News is produced and emailed to HSD families and staff each week school is in session. Please add the address to your “safe sender” list to make sure you always receive the latest issue. Please also bookmark our district website: hsd.k12.or.us and the 2022-23 School Year page: hsd.k12.or.us/202223schoolyear to stay informed about what's happening in our district and schools.
February 6 through 10 is National School Counseling Week, sponsored by the American School Counselor Association. The theme this year is “School Counselors: Helping Students Dream Big.” The purpose is to highlight the unique contribution of school counselors within our school buildings, and the tremendous impact counselors have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career. Please join us in celebrating the nearly 90 HSD school counselors, school-to-career specialists, support and wellness counselors, care coordinators, Youth Contact counselors, and their district supporters during National School Counseling Week! February is also National Career and Technical Education or CTE Month, sponsored by the Association for Career and Technical Education. It is a public awareness campaign that takes place each February to celebrate the value of CTE and the achievements and accomplishments of CTE programs and educators across the country. We have much to celebrate in our Hillsboro community, as we continue to expand and grow our CTE opportunities for our students. The vision and passion of our CTE staff is the reason why the Hillsboro School District is recognized across our state for excellence in the area of Career and College Pathways! Our featured event is Family Library Night at Rosedale Elementary School. Thanks to a generous grant from the Hillsboro Schools Foundation and Richard B. Siegel Foundation, Rosedale Elementary School's library has been offering monthly “Your Story Matters” events for each grade level. Families are invited to attend with their child, browse the school's collection of books, and enjoy the space together. Snacks, gifts, prizes, and the book that is read aloud are given away to participating families. Fifty-one families attended the 2nd grade event in January, and they're hoping for an equally great turnout for the 3rd grade event on Wednesday, February 15th.
One Week Love is TSL's brand new hit reality show, garnering over 100K views on every single episode in the season. But with views, came its fair share of controversy due to the behaviour of some participants. In this episode of IMO, we invited the director of One Week Love, Julian, to share a bit more about what are the hidden struggles behind producing a reality show, and the moral dilemmas faced as a producer and editor of such content.
Amanda is feeling a little under the weather, but that's not holding Bebe back from telling us all the dirt from Matthew Perry's new autobiography! We also discuss the hidden gem on A&E that is 60 Days In, and whether Carlos can still get it after fighting with Lucky Chucky. But da belle of da ball this week is LOVE IS BLIND Season 3! SPOILER alert: we're talking about SK and Raven's big day and how we think Nancy & Bartise will end up. If you're a real fan, stay tuned to the end where we share the scariest children's movies from the 80s. This week, we take a trip to the jungle and explore the wonders of the unknown with this Tarzan-inspired tale! Meet Thorn, the mystical protector of the jungle, and Eden, the American journalist who finds herself thrown into the thick of it. As danger looms in the distance and an unknown man threatens Eden's life, the two of them fall in love amidst the treacherous and beautiful depths of the Impenetrable Forest. But what does it mean to love a man who doesn't know life outside of the jungle and what if he is the lost heir to an Earldom he doesn't remember nor want? In this episode of Romancing the Monsters, we discuss the destructiveness of greed and power, the enduring quality of nature and its mysticality, the burden of love in the real world vs. the freedom of the wild, and the representation of Africa in western media. Trigger warning: death of a parent, murder, plane crash, animal cruelty and death, deforestation, poaching. This monster can be a prejudice, fear, insecurity, trauma and so on. We believe that romance novels are as much about one's personal journey as they are about finding love. After all, love makes us vulnerable and forces us to bare our monsters to another.

Join me for this solo episode of The Brendan Burns Show where I break down the popular Netflix show Love is Blind and focus on the relationship between Cameron Hamilton and Lauren Speed.
