Because you were home. The Strangers is a 2008 American psychological horror film written and directed by Bryan Bertino. The film follows a couple (portrayed by Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman) whose stay at a vacation home is disrupted by three masked intruders (portrayed by Kip Weeks, Gemma Ward, and Laura Margolis) who infiltrate the home one night. It is the first installment in The Strangers film series. The screenplay was inspired by two real-life events: the multiple-homicide Manson family Tate murders and a series of break-ins that occurred in Bertino's neighborhood as a child. Some journalists noted similarities between the film and the Keddie cabin murders that occurred in Keddie, California, in 1981, though Bertino did not cite this as a reference.00:00 Intro17:18 Horror News 28:59 What We've Been Watching46:17 Film Review2:05:12 Name Game2:09:37 Film Rating2:13:56 OutroPodcast - https://podlink.to/horrorhangoutPatreon - https://www.patreon.com/horrorhangoutFacebook - https://www.facebook.com/horrorhangoutpodcastTwitter - https://twitter.com/horror_hangout_TikTok - https://www.tiktok.com/@horrorhangoutpodcastInstagram - https://www.instagram.com/horrorhangoutpodcast/Website - http://www.hawkandcleaver.comBen - https://twitter.com/ben_erringtonAndy - https://twitter.com/AndyCTWritesLucy - https://twitter.com/lucyjadebuglassAudio credit - Taj Eastonhttp://tajeaston.comSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/thehorrorhangout. Lucy Buglass (Tea-V-Time podcast) and Sean Higgins (The Sofa Cinema) return to Flixwatcher remotely to review Lucy's choice Doctor Sleep. Doctor Sleep is the 2019 supernatural horror, written and directed by Mike Flanagan based on the 2013 Stephen King novel of the same name that is also the sequel to the hugely popular book and film The Shining. It stars Ewan McGregor as an adult Danny Torrance, who is now an alcoholic, traumatised by the incident at the Overlook Hotel in 1980 and still experiencing his psychic powers (the shining). He ends up working at a hospice and uses his shining to comfort dying patients and earns the nickname Doctor Sleep. Meanwhile, a group called the True Knots who feed on the ‘steam' released from killing those who have the shinning, led by Rose the Hat (Rebecca Ferguson), are kidnapping, torturing and killing children. During a killing by the True Knots a child with an extremely strong shine called Abra senses it and she telepathically alerts Danny to it. This also alerts Rose the Hat and it becomes a game of cat and mouse as Danny and Abra try to avoid capture by the True Knots. Coming in at a hefty two hours 32 minutes you have to be committed and most likely have seen or read The Shining to want to watch Doctor Sleep. It suffered from poor marketing and average reviews on release, the Flixwatcher scores however were more favourable, particularly on recommendability and engagement and Doctor Sleep scores 3.78 overall.   [supsystic-tables id=296] Episode #284 Crew Links Thanks to Episode #284 Crew of Sean Higgins (@SeanHig44489215) and Lucy Buglass (@TeaVTimePod) Find their Websites online at https://t.co/UtruPQSYBj and at https://twitter.com/TeaVTimePod Please make sure you give them some love   More about Doctor Sleep For more info on Doctor Sleep, you can visit Doctor Sleep IMDb page here or Doctor Sleep Rotten Tomatoes page here. Sean Higgins (The Sofa Cinema) and Lucy Buglass (Tea-V-Time podcast) join Flixwatcher remotely for a spooky special to review Sean's choice Halloween. Halloween is the 1978 John Carpenter slasher classic starring Jamie Lee Curtis (in her film debut) as Laurie Strode who is terrorised on Halloween by mental patient on the loose Michael Myers. That is basically the plot! It has inexplicably spawned 12 sequels of extremely mixed quality - Carpenter very wisely had zero involvement in the sequels - but it is widely agreed that Halloween (1978) is the best. Laurie has entered into film history as an original ‘final girl' and the Michael Myers mask has entered popular culture multiple times (see Baby Driver). Halloween is probably unlikely to shock and scare 2022 viewers like it did in 1978 but that doesn't stop it being highly endearing and winning over even non-horror fan Kobi. Scores for Halloween were very high, especially for recommendability, slightly lower engagement give it an overall rating of 3.95.   [supsystic-tables id=284] Episode #272 Crew Links Thanks to Episode #272 Crew of Sean Higgins (@SeanHig44489215) and Lucy Buglass (@TeaVTimePod) Find their Websites online at https://t.co/UtruPQSYBj and at https://twitter.com/TeaVTimePod Please make sure you give them some love   More about Halloween For more info on Halloween, you can visit Halloween IMDb page here or Halloween Rotten Tomatoes page here. Episode 124 of The Movie Robcast delves deep into the dark heart of FrightFest 2021. The UK's biggest horror film festival was back in the cinema this August Bank Holiday weekend, with a gorenucopia of sinister cinematic treats to entertain fans. In this in-depth review of the festival you will hear intros to various movies, plus the opening festival speech from horror authority Mark Kermode. At 22.15 Richard Waters and Alison Scarff discuss their movie Bring Out the Fear, one of Rob Daniel's Top 10 films at the festival this year. Another Top 10 favourite was When the Screaming Starts, and you can hear from the makers of that movie at 39.30. Also joining Rob D on the episode is horror journalist Lucy Buglass, who was good enough to talk FrightFest on the Bank Holiday Monday, and then return for a follow-up chat a few days later. Lucy appears at 45.28 and 58.23. Films reviewed in this episode include The Last Thing Mary Saw, The Advent Calendar, Evie, The Sadness, Sound of Violence, Bring Out the Fear, When the Screaming Starts, The Found Footage Phenomenon, No Man of God and more. Spooky scary vengeful ghosts, send shivers down your spine. Good jump scares will shock your soul, seal your doom tonight. This particular spirit has hosts Simon Whitlock (@Depressedmovie) and Calum Cooper (@CalumTheFilmGuy) so spooked that they require the help of a special guest, film critic and podcaster Lucy Buglass (@LGTHBlog), in tackling the third and final film of this podcast's namesake - 2012's adaptation of The Woman in Black. In between vivacious discussion of this underrated horror film are tangents into such topics as Lalaloopsy dolls, parents taking their kids into unsuitable films, and what they would do if they came back as vengeful spirits themselves. *SPOILER WARNING* This episode contains numerous spoilers about The Silence of the Lambs and Manhunter. It also references strong language featured in The Silence of the Lambs' dialogue. Episode 115 of The Movie Robcast conducts a full investigation into two classic movies, both of which celebrate anniversaries this year. Jonathan Demme's The Silence of the Lambs hits the big 3-0, while Michael Mann's Manhunter reaches 35. Which makes 75% of the contributors to this episode feel rather creaky in the bones… Hungry to join the Robs in this discussion are splendid guests Ian Bird and Sarah Johnson. They dig deep into Demme's multiple Oscar-winning shocker, recalling its impact at the time, the ways in which it broke the Hollywood mould, its progressive depiction of a female protagonist, and the accusations of transphobia and homophobia levelled against it. Then onto Manhunter, the initially overlooked but now lauded chiller that gave Hannibal Lecter (or Lecktor as this film has it…) his first big screen outing. There is also plenty of chat about author Thomas Harris' novels, the differences between Anthony Hopkins and Brian Cox's Hannibal Lecters, and the sheer awesomeness of Jodie Foster's performance as Clarice Starling and William Petersen's as Will Graham. Bon Appetit… The Silence of the Lambs' depiction of transsexual themes is also discussed in the Netflix documentary Disclosure. Click here for details on how to watch: https://www.netflix.com/de-en/title/81284247?preventIntent=true The Why Are Dads podcast also features an illuminating discussion on the film. Details of the episode can be found here: https://www.podpage.com/why-are-dads/the-silence-of-the-lambs-w-harmony-colangelo/ In other news, our own Rob Wallis recently guested on the wonderful podcast Tea-V-Time, with Lucy Buglass. Crooked Table Podcast - The world of film from a fresh angle

It's the most terror-filled time of the year. This episode, we're taking a look at one of the most influential horror films of the 2000s: James Wan's 2004 release Saw. In addition to seven (soon-to-be eight) sequels, the film kickstarted Wan's directing career long before Insidious, The Conjuring, Furious 7, and Aquaman. But is Saw just a disposable bit of "torture porn" like so many of its imitators? Lucy Buglass joins the show to help us tear into that very question. We'll discuss how Saw serves as a springboard for not only Wan but also screenwriter/star Leigh Whannell (The Invisible Man). And we'll consider whether the first film's legacy is upheld by its sequel. We'll even ask the question everyone has been wondering for the better part of 20 years: did Saw invent escape rooms? So keep your pig mask handy, queue up your creepy puppets, and prepare yourself for a modern horror classic. We want to play a game. And it's Saw. SYNOPSIS Photographer Adam Stanheight (Leigh Whannell) and oncologist Lawrence Gordon (Cary Elwes) regain consciousness while chained to pipes at either end of a filthy bathroom. As the two men realize they've been trapped by a sadistic serial killer nicknamed "Jigsaw" and must complete his perverse puzzle to live, flashbacks relate the fates of his previous victims. Meanwhile, Dr. Gordon's wife (Monica Potter) and young daughter (Makenzie Vega) are forced to watch his torture via closed-circuit video. The powers that be decide that there is still life in the big fish yet and decide to take it and drop it in Florida at Seaworld. What we are left with is a messy film with messy 3D. It's a curiosity worth watching but far from a classic.  The synopsis is as follows:  After a young great white shark finds its way into a sea-themed park managed by Calvin Bouchard, workers try to capture it. But the facility's attempt to keep the shark in captivity has dire consequences: A much larger mother shark appears in search of its offspring. Among those who must battle the angry aquatic killing machine are marine biologist Kathryn Morgan, her co-worker Mike Brody and a pair of friendly dolphins.
