"Being the student is where you wanna be at." Dear podcast family, this week, I am thrilled to share with you a profound episode featuring a truly special guest: Luke Walsh from "The Healing Forest". Luke is not only a father and a podcast host, but also a forest bathing guide. He is the owner and lead facilitator of "The Healing Forest," a sanctuary where he and his wife facilitate profound healing work within the realms of shamanism, men's and women's circles, kundalini activation, Reiki, and much more. I stumbled upon Luke and his remarkable work through his own podcast, "The Healing Forest Podcast," which I wholeheartedly recommend for you to listen to. Luke's ability to hold space and genuinely connect with his guests is mesmerizing. From the moment I began listening to him speak and pose questions, I found myself fervently jotting down notes. His presence in the world is truly extraordinary—gentle, purposeful, and beautiful. It was an absolute honor to share time and space with Luke, delving into topics such as the therapeutic power of nature, the essence of manhood, and the profound journey of fatherhood. We also explored the art of holding space for those in need. Luke's words and his work have deeply moved me, and I can only urge you to explore the offerings he provides. Thank you for being here. I love you.

White Lodge: Forming in the quaint gold coast suburb of southport in 2013, they’ve been building up a solid fan base with their concrete psych filled riffs and furious surf beats. So far they have four releases to their name, two EP’s and two split seven inches with another release in the pipeline. Recorded & mixed by Branko Cosic. Recorded at The Triffid, Brisbane, December 19th 2015. Mope City: Mope City formed in Marrickville in 2012. Mat Nev fronts the band half of the tim, he’s been involved in Day Ravies, Drown Under, and Snotty Babies. For the other half of the time Julia Wylie of Snotty Babies sings lead. Rounding out the classic power trio formation is sam Wilkinson of Day Ravies fame manning the skins. They have just released their debut LP ‘Petri Dish’ on Tenth Court Records with web publications Rolling Stone, Noisey, and Who The Hell all taking notice. Recorded & mixed by Luke Walsh. Recorded at The Greenslopes Bowls Club, Brisbane, February 22nd, 2014. Airing details: Originally via Zed Digital, 7-8pm, Friday 26th February 2016. Show production and engineering: Branko Cosic.
Cannon: Cannon are one of Brisbane’s quiet achievers but you wouldn’t know it if you saw one of their shows. Yes, they’re loud, they’re messy and sweaty and look so effortless doing it all too because they do this almost every weekend. They released their debut album in 2011 and followed it up with a 7” single last year on Bon Voyage records, a Brizzy label that brought you the Feathers LP and later the debut 7” of Martyr privates. But it’s their dynamic unpretentious live presence that sets them apart from your everyday garage rock band. That and their songs are damn catchy too. Recorded & mixed by Josh Watson. Recorded at The Underdog, Mar 22 2014. Dag: The name Dag conjures up images of 20th century Australiana, a not so distant past but an endearing one at that. Dag main man, Dusty, channels his inner Grant McLennan and wears the Go-Betweens influence on his sleeve. I wouldn’t go as far as to call it dolewave (the unfortunate title for a new wave of Australian jangle-pop) and it’s more similar to Scott & Charlene’s Wedding’s sombre first record rather than the almost lackadaisical nature of a group like Bitch Prefect. Recorded & mixed by Luke Walsh. Recorded at Guilt Retreat 8, Nov 16 2013. Airing details: Originally via Zed Digital, 8-9pm, Friday 18 April 2014. Show production and engineering: Josh Watson.
Mope City: Mope City formed in Marrickville at the end of 2012. Matt Nev fronts the band half the time; he’s been involved in Day Ravies, Drown Under and Snotty Babies. For the other half of the time Amaya Lang of Snotty Babies sings lead. Rounding out the classic power-trio formation is Sam Wilkinson of Day Ravies fame manning the skins. Mope City write songs on the sadder side of life which is not surprising seeing as the Sydney music scene is a fairly depressing state of affairs at the moment. When NSW Police Minister Michael Gallacher said that the ‘Sydney live music scene is dead’ it wasn’t exactly encouraging for local musicians, but I doubt it matters at all to Mope City. Matt sounds way more despondent than Kurt Cobain ever did. This is real rainy-day music, like early Failure, Chavez and Built to Spill. As if the only Go-Betweens song they’ve ever heard is Apology Accepted. Recorded & mixed by Luke Walsh. Recorded at The Greenslopes Bowls Club, Feb 22 2014. Worm Crown: Worm Crown are a three piece from Melbourne, they play hard rock or punk rock. Their brand of rock ‘n’ roll sits somewhere in the middle of the two – a bit like Danish band Iceage. They’ve independently released a few EPs, which you can listen to on their bandcamp page. Those recordings document the band’s gestation period – only fairly recently have they become the pummelling amp-melting unit that they are today, or at least were on the 22nd of February. Recorded & mixed by Luke Walsh. Recorded at The Greenslopes Bowls Club, Feb 22 2014. Airing details: Originally via Zed Digital, 8-9pm, Friday 21 March 2014. Show production and engineering: Joshua Watson.
Nana Vigilante: Nana Vigilante is the pairing of Lindsay Roser and Julian Saunders. They’re very BNE-centric – Lindsay raps of her fondness for the brown river city quite often. Julian’s production has reflections of 90s Aus hip-hop on some tracks while others have a more industrial noise influence. You can probably guess that they are indeed a hip-hop duo, something you don’t usually see in a Brisbane pub. OPERATION PUT BRISBANE ON THE MAP! Recorded & mixed by Andrew McLellan. Recorded at The Underdog, 21st February 2014. Curlew: Curlew, a Brisbane based duo that are a bit reminiscent of Gareth Liddiard but some with post-rock undertones and a hint of Mum Smokes. Long songs are their thing, they played only a two-song set at The Waiting Room on February 14. Mark Zian and Callum Wheeler make up the duo. Is it anti-punk or completely punk? It’s hard to say. Mark sings of rats tails and childhood, it sounds a bit like therapy. Recorded & mixed by Joshua Watson. Recorded at The Waiting Room, Feb 14 2014. Snotty Babies: Two dynamic women front Snotty Babies while some fellas back it up. They’re penetrating and dynamic, like their close friends, Housewives. A new generation of Sydney punk has been fermenting over the last few years and it’s only getting more agitated and energetic. Members of the group are also involved with: Mope City, Housewives, Drown Under, Beef Jerk and Julia Why. Recorded & mixed by Luke Walsh. Recorded at The Greenslopes Bowls Club, Feb 22 2014. Thigh Master: Recorded by Joshua Watson & Andrew McLellan Mixed by Dusty Anastassiou. Recorded at The Underdog, Feb 8 2014. Airing details: Originally via Zed Digital, 8-9pm, Friday 14 March 2014. Show production and engineering: Joshua Watson.
Treehouse: Treehouse are a three-piece grunge ensemble that formed around three years ago in Hobart’s Eastern Shore block. These young lads follow a similar thread of raw and uncompromising rock n roll energy that was bursting from the seems of 90s Tasmania, by and large, Treehouse are not dissimilar to the fed-up enthusiasm projected by the likes of Sea Scouts, The Stickmen and The Dacios. They’ve appeared on the Rough Skies Community compilations and have recently announced a vinyl re-issue of their 2013 cassette on Melbourne label Vacant Valley. Recorded & mixed by Luke Walsh. Recorded at Greenslopes Bowls Club,22nd February 2014. Thigh Master: The Ford brothers operate more like music production company rather than just two guys with some songs. Under their belt they have the washed-out slacker vibes of Black Vacation, the bitingly catchy pop-punk Kids Cryptic and most recently Thigh Master – which lies somewhere between those other two. Then there’s their solo and side projects: Dan has his electronic project Evening Hiss while Matt plays drums for Per Purpose, Deadshred and Dag as well. Thigh Master is possibly the loudest and most abrasive of all these musical endeavours. Matt (the younger Ford brother) takes the reigns as principle songwriter and singer of the group. Recorded by Joshua Watson & Andrew Mclellan Mixed by Dusty Anastassiou. Recorded at The Underdog, Feb 8 2014. Blank Realm: Recorded by Joshua Watson & Andrew Mclellan Mixed by Dusty Anastassiou. Recorded at The Underdog, Feb 8 2014. Airing details: Originally via Zed Digital, 8-9pm, Friday 7 March 2014. Show production and engineering: Joshua Watson.
