Join John and Bill with special guest Jeff Greenstein of the smash hit I Dream of Cameras to talk about everything Leicaflex. Everyone connects the names Leitz and Leica with rangefinders, from the classic Barnack to the modern M-Series. And while that is what Leica is known for, they also saw that SLRs were becoming popular in the 1960s and decided to throw their hat into the ring. In 1964, they released the Leicaflex, an SLR based around their own R-Mount. The program dates back to 1955, when Ludwig Leitz was urged by Walther Benser to develop an SLR, as Benser believed SLRs would become popular. The Leicaflex was followed by the SL in 1968 and the SL2 in 1972. A technology-sharing partnership with Minolta in 1971 led to the introduction of the R-Series of Leicaflexes, starting with the Leica R3 in 1976. The R4 in 1980, the R5 in 1987, the R6 a year later, and then the R7. The 1990s brought a radical redesign of the R-Series with the R8 and R9. The entire series ended in 2009. The one thing to look out for is the R-Mount lenses; these come in several categories. One Cam lens works only with the original Leicaflex. Two Cam lenses are good for the SL and SL2. They will work on the R3, but you need to do stop-down metering. Three-Cam lenses are the cream of the crop, as they work flawlessly on the R3 through R9 and the SL/SL2. There's also the R-Cam for R3-R9 only, and the R-ROM for R8 & R9 only.

She urged stronger EV incentives, more charging infrastructure, and social leasing to keep Germany competitive in the global transition.   InstaVolt upgrading UK chargers   InstaVolt has begun nationwide upgrades replacing older 50 kW units with faster, more accessible 120 kW chargers. The new design shortens charge times and improves convenience, backed by renewable power and near‑perfect network reliability.   Cross‑pavement charging in Northern Ireland   Northern Ireland now allows residents without driveways to install cross‑pavement home charging channels for EVs. The scheme offers much cheaper charging than public points, helping hundreds of thousands access affordable home charging for the first time.   Ampere confirms 40% cost‑cut target   Renault's EV unit Ampere reaffirmed its goal to reduce EV costs by 40% by 2028 while reaching break-even in 2025. Success would strengthen Renault's competitiveness and make its next generation of electric models more affordable.   BMW electric paddle board  BMW and SipaBoards have launched an electric self‑inflating stand‑up paddle board featuring modular batteries and digital controls. Priced at €3,990, the innovative board combines quiet motorization, safety features, and app connectivity for water sports enthusiasts.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Leitz Camera, or as we know it today, Leica. The Leitz Camera Co. is far older than the cameras they produce. In today's episode, Bill leads a panel of photographers, including Alex (Smith), John Roberts, and David, who all have one thing in common: their love of Leicas, from the Barnack rangefinders to the iconic M-Series of rangefinders and even the controversial SLR line of Leicaflexes! But no matter which side of the fence you land on, there is something special about Leica cameras and their lenses that makes them not only expensive but worth every penny. Also Alex (our Alex) comes in with a presentation on the Leica Freedom Train, an effort by Ernst Leitz II and Elsie Kuehn-Leitz, to move hundreds of Jewish employees and their families outside of Germany from 1935-1939 and the company's efforts to protect those enslaved under the Nazis and employed by Leitz during the war. They chased a Roosterfish, Amberjack, and he highly recommends doing it because it was fun and exciting. 45:32 - We talked about what the roosterfish looked like and how they chased and caught it. He also loves Saltwater Fishing. 47:41 - La Ventana, where there's great rooster fishing and if you want to ride around Cabo in Los Barrelis, you can just use an ATV rental, also has spectacular food that's so good. 48:37 - Here's the picture from last year when they caught Rooster Fish and Amber Jack in Baja Mexico. 48:44 - Jeff notes the trip they did in the Northern Lights, and that's going to be a badass trip too and a lot of fun. 48:52 - Pyramid Lake is another one on Jeff's bucket list trips. 49:34 - We talked about Nico Sunseri, who was fishing with him as one of his friends, and how he knew him very well. He also described Nico as a good fisherman and a good person. 50:48 - Jeff shared that salt species are fighters, and with trout fishing, large trout are certainly going to fight; they're going to take you for a ride; they're going to run; they're going to trim and get rid of you; but Jeff mentioned that salt fish are a unique experience. 51:26 - Jeff notes that he's a trout fisherman in Colorado. 51:58 - Jeff mentioned that he went out last weekend to Arkansas in Colorado to gold Medal Water and shared that they really do a good job with the river by making it so accessible; there are bathrooms in different locations, and it's really built out and nice all the way down the long river. 53:26 - We talked about their trip to Baja Mexico, and Jeff shared that they have a guidebook in Colorado, and someone helped them with booking and arranging things. 56:00 - For Stillwater fly fishing situations, they recommend their Mystic M Series in the 10' 3" 6 weight, their M-Series Spey rod comes in at 12' 3", the M-Series Switch rod and Micro-Spey rods are built in an 11' 3" design, and also JXP in the 9-foot 6-weight. This high-performance fly rod is a great fit for making long casts on lakes in windy situations. You might also consider the Reaper X 9-foot, 7-weight rod.
