¡Todo el mundo habla de las marcas chinas! Y pocos las conocen. Si te hablan de Audi, BMW, Mazda, Renault o Toyota, por citar solo algunas, más o menos, sabrías “de que van” y las conoces… ¿Y si te hablo de Aywais, BAIC, BYD, Jaecoo, Nio, Omoda o XPeng, por citar solo algunas? ¿Sabes algo de estás marcas? Es probable que no. Vamos a proporcionaros un mapa claro de este laberinto …para que no os perdáis. Este video lo hemos trabajado mucho todo el equipo… y es que para entender el fenómeno chino hay que olvidar ideas preconcebidas y hay que pensar en tres tipos de especies que conviven en un ecosistema feroz. Primero, los gigantes estatales como SAIC o Chery, mastodontes industriales que crecieron al amparo del gobierno y de sus alianzas con fabricantes occidentales. Segundo, los imperios privados como Geely o BYD, creados por empresarios visionarios, que son más ágiles y tienen una ambición global voraz. Y tercero y último, las startups tecnológicas como NIO o XPeng, nacidas en la era del software y con la vista puesta en destronar a Tesla. La estrategia del gobierno chino fue clara: dominar la tecnología de baterías mientras Europa debatía sobre plazos y normativas. El resultado es que han lanzado una ofensiva global con el coche eléctrico como punta de lanza. Su desembarco ya es una realidad: en España, su cuota de mercado en 2025 se acerca peligrosamente al 10 por ciento, casi el doble que en 2024 que fue del 4,2 por ciento... Ahora, conozcamos a algunos de los actores de esta historia con algunos ejemplos de sus productos con valoraciones. Y digo algunos… porque, a día de hoy, es casi imposible hacer un vídeo con todas las marcas chinas que existen. Creo que hemos hecho una buena selección con las más relevantes. CAPITULO 1: AIWAYS EL PIONERO CON DIFICULTADES. Aiways merece una mención por ser uno de los primeros en atreverse a desembarcar en Europa, allá por 2020. A pesar de tener un producto correcto, les ha faltado el músculo financiero y la capacidad de marketing para hacerse un hueco en el mercado. Abrieron el camino, pero corren el riesgo de ser arrollados por los gigantes que vienen detrás. CAPÍTULO 2: BAIC, EL GIGANTE A LA SOMBRA DE MERCEDES. BAIC es un coloso estatal, socio de Mercedes-Benz y Hyundai en China y uno de los mayores accionistas de la propia Mercedes. CAPÍTULO 3: BYD, EL GIGANTE DE LAS BATERÍAS. BYD siglas de "Build Your Dreams" infunde respeto Este gigante privado, que empezó fabricando baterías para móviles, es hoy el mayor productor de vehículos electrificados del mundo. CAPÍTULO 4. CHERY, EL EXPORTADOR REINVENTADO. Chery es un gigante estatal con un pasado complicado, manchado por acusaciones de copias de baja calidad. Pero han aprendido la lección. CAPÍTULO 5: GEELY GROUP, EL IMPERIO ESTRATÉGICO. Geely no es una marca. Ni tampoco una empresa… es un imperio. Este conglomerado privado, dirigido por el brillante estratega Li Shufu. Son dueños de Volvo, Polestar y Lotus, y socios al 50 por ciento de Mercedes-Benz en Smart. Esta jugada les da acceso a muy buena ingeniería y diseño, que luego aplican a sus propias marcas globales. CAPÍTULO 6: GREAT WALL MOTOR, EL ESPECIALISTA EN SUVs. GWM es otro gran fabricante privado, históricamente especializado en SUVs y pick-ups. Su ofensiva se basa en dos pilares. Por un lado, Ora, con coches eléctricos de diseño neoretro muy llamativos y por otro, Wey, su marca premium enfocada en híbridos enchufables de gran lujo. CAPÍTULO 7: NIO & XPENG, VANGUARDIA TECNOLÓGICA. Estas dos startups representan la cara más tecnológica de China. Para muchos son los coches chinos 2.0. No compiten por precio, sino por innovación y por ser la "alternativa a Tesla". CAPÍTULO 8: SAIC MOTOR Y EL FENÓMENO MG. SAIC es el mayor fabricante estatal de China, socio histórico de Volkswagen y General Motors. Compró los restos de la mítica marca británica MG. CAPÍTULO 9. XIAOMI, DE LA ELECTRÓNICA DE CONSUMO... … a los coches. Gigantes de la tecnología como Google o Apple han tenido malas experiencias intentando hacer coches. Pero en China, Xiaomi ha empezado con éxito. CAPÍTULO 10: LEAPMOTOR, SOCIO DE ESTELLANTIS. Stellantis adquirió en 2023 el 20 por ciento de la joven marca china.

Hoy vamos a hablar de un tema que me parece clave para entender no solo el presente sino, sobre todo, el futuro inmediato del automóvil. Vamos a responder a dos preguntas aparentemente sencillas: ¿Qué significa hoy en día "Made in Europe"? ¿Qué significa "Made in China"? Olvídate de todo lo que creíais saber, porque las viejas etiquetas ya no sirven. Y ahora, vamos con los “euro-chinos”. Porque la “paternidad” de los coches, fruto de las alianzas, cada vez es menos clara. Una nueva generación de automóviles está conquistando nuestras carreteras. Son coches nacidos de esas alianzas que hace apenas una 5 o 10 años nos habrían parecido ciencia ficción. La unión “euro-china” tiene sus ventajas, pues por un lado tienes tradición, ingeniería y diseño de Europa con el músculo financiero y la increíble agilidad productiva de China. Y que nadie se confunda: hoy no hablamos de copias, ni de imitaciones baratas. Hablamos de una fusión estratégica y, por lo general, inteligente que está redibujando por completo el mapa mundial del motor. Todavía hoy cuando escuchamos "coche chino", nos viene a la cabeza la imagen de un producto de calidad dudosa. Y esto está cambiando a toda velocidad. El desembarco de las marcas chinas en Europa no es una simple invasión comercial al uso: Va más allá, es me atrevo a decir, más peligrosa. Es un movimiento sutil y brillante, porque los gigantes industriales chinos han entendido que para conquistar el exigente mercado occidental no basta con ofrecer un precio bajo. Se necesita diseño, tecnología punta, una seguridad incuestionable y, todavía hoy, sigue ayudando mucho una marca de confianza, una tradición, una historia, un ADN. ¿Y dónde se encuentra todo eso en abundancia? Exacto, en Europa. Por otro lado, marcas europeas con décadas de historia, algunas de ellas en dificultades e incluso al borde de la desaparición, han encontrado en el capital chino el salvavidas que necesitaban. Pero no ha sido un simple rescate. Ha sido una inyección masiva de recursos con la idea de reinventarse y posicionarse como líderes en la nueva era eléctrica. Para hacerlo más fácil, vamos a dividir este fenómeno en tres grandes categorías: Primero, las joyas de la corona europeas que ahora tienen un pasaporte chino. Segundo, las nuevas marcas chinas que han nacido y crecido con un cerebro y un alma de diseño europeo. Y tercero, los matrimonios de conveniencia más recientes, donde dos gigantes se unen para crear una nueva generación de vehículos. Para mí no todo han sido aciertos… hay de todo. Nosotros te lo contamos y tu juzgas. ¡Vamos allá! Categoría 1: Legado europeo con corazón oriental. Aquí es, quizás, donde encontramos las historias más potentes. Lotus. De la ligereza al Hiper-SUV Eléctrico. MG. El Renacer del icono británico. Volvo y Polestar. Modelo de éxito. Categoría 2: Marcas chinas con cerebro europeo. BYD. El gigante que fichó a las estrellas. Lynk & Co. El “Netflix” del automóvil. Categoría 3: Matrimonios de Conveniencia… Smart. Revolución Germano-China. Stellantis y Leapmotor. Un “balón de oxígeno”. ¿Vendrás más? Volvo, MG, Lotus... la lista crece. Y seguirá creciendo. Como veis, el panorama del automóvil ha cambiado para siempre. Ya no se trata de dónde se ensambla la última tuerca, sino de dónde provienen el capital, la tecnología, el diseño y la estrategia. Esta fusión "euro-china" está acelerando la transición eléctrica y aumentando la competencia, lo cual es bueno para nosotros. Surgen muchas preguntas: ¿Es menos europeo un Volvo por tener un dueño chino que ha potenciado su herencia? ¿Es menos chino un BYD por haber sido diseñado por un alemán? Las etiquetas son cada vez más difusas, los estereotipos desaparecen. Hay dos cosas que importan. Una, el producto final. Y muchos de estos coches "euro-chinos" son productos y muy competitivos. Y dos, ¿Dónde van a parar los beneficios? Este asunto, a futuro, es también muy importante… la preponderancia de las marcas europeas y japonesas, está llamada a desaparecer. Conclusión. El concepto de coche "nacional" se va desvaneciendo. Marcas históricas europeas sobreviven gracias a esta unión, mientras que nuevas marcas chinas conquistan nuestro mercado adoptando un alma europea. Esta fusión está acelerando la electrificación… si es bueno o malo, lo veremos con el tiempo.

Im Podcast mit Xavier Chardon, dem CEO von Citroën, ging es um nichts weniger als die Zukunft der Marke – und um die Frage, wie sich Citroën zwischen Preis, Komfort und Elektrifizierung neu positioniert. Schon zu Beginn machte Chardon klar, worauf es ihm ankommt: „Citroën hat immer Innovation zu einem akzeptablen Preis gebracht – das bleibt unser Ziel.“ Wer lieber liest, als hört, der sollte bei diesem Artikel vorbeischauen. Die Strategie basiert auf drei Säulen: fair bepreiste Modelle, hoher Komfort und technologische Offenheit. Der neue C5 Aircross etwa startet in Frankreich bei rund 34.000 Euro (Verbrenner-Variante) und bietet laut Chardon „mehr Platz, mehr Komfort und jetzt auch acht Jahre Garantie für weniger Geld“. In Deutschland liegt der Startpreis für die E-Variante bei rund 42.000 Euro – besonders interessant für Flottenkunden. Auch der neue C3 und C3 Aircross sollen mit großzügigem Raumangebot und LFP-Akkus zeigen, dass Elektromobilität bezahlbar sein kann. Citroën sieht sich laut Chardon derzeit auf einem klaren Wachstumspfad. „Wir gewinnen Marktanteile im Privatkundengeschäft und sehen eine steigende Nachfrage – auch in Deutschland.“ Die Lieferzeiten seien zwar lang, was auf eine starke Nachfrage und volle Werke in der Slowakei zurückzuführen sei, doch für 2026 rechnet er mit der vollen Produktionskapazität. Unter anderem, weil ein weiteres Werk für die Produktion ertüchtigt wird. In Sachen Antriebsstrategie verfolgt Citroën bewusst einen Mix: Rund 30 bis 35 Prozent der Verkäufe sollen künftig rein elektrisch sein, ergänzt durch Plug-in-Hybride und Hybride. „Unser Ziel ist es, Elektroautos zu demokratisieren,“ so Chardon. Ein Beispiel dafür sei der neue ë-C3 mit 200 Kilometern Reichweite ab unter 20.000 Euro – ideal für Pendler und als Zweitauto. Die Partnerschaft mit Leapmotor sieht Chardon nicht als Bedrohung, sondern als Chance: „Es gibt Synergien in beide Richtungen. Wir können voneinander lernen – besonders, was Geschwindigkeit in Entwicklung und Technologie angeht.“ Gleichzeitig betonte er, dass europäische Kunden andere Ansprüche hätten als in China – etwa beim Fahrgefühl und der Komfortabstimmung. Beim Thema Technologieoffenheit zeigte sich Chardon pragmatisch. Ein mögliches Comeback des Verbrenners in Europa hält er zwar für unwahrscheinlich, doch fordert er „mehr Flexibilität und Unterstützung für alternative Antriebe“. Range-Extender-Modelle seien technisch interessant, scheiterten bislang aber an der fehlenden Förderung. Als Erfolgsmodelle nannte er den C3, C3 Aircross und den C4 – letzteren gibt es bereits als Elektroversion mit rund 400 Kilometern Reichweite. Besonders profitabel sei außerdem die Nutzfahrzeugpalette der Marke. Zum Abschluss sprach Chardon über die emotionale Seite der Marke. Ikonen wie die legendäre Ente sieht er weniger als Designvorbild, sondern als Inspiration für den Markenkern: „Die Ente stand für individuelle Mobilität für alle – genau das wollen wir wieder erreichen.“ Citroën will also keine Retro-Marke werden, sondern eine, die Komfort, Erschwinglichkeit und Elektrifizierung miteinander verbindet. Nun aber genug der Vorworte – lasst uns direkt in das Gespräch mit Xavier Chardon einsteigen.

Olvídate de todo lo que creíais saber, porque las viejas etiquetas ya no sirven. Y ahora, vamos con los “euro-chinos”. Porque la “paternidad” de los coches, fruto de las alianzas, cada vez es menos clara. Una nueva generación de automóviles está conquistando nuestras carreteras. Son coches nacidos de esas alianzas que hace apenas una 5 o 10 años nos habrían parecido ciencia ficción. La unión “euro-china” tiene sus ventajas, pues por un lado tienes tradición, ingeniería y diseño de Europa con el músculo financiero y la increíble agilidad productiva de China. Y que nadie se confunda: hoy no hablamos de copias, ni de imitaciones baratas. Hablamos de una fusión estratégica y, por lo general, inteligente que está redibujando por completo el mapa mundial del motor. Todavía hoy cuando escuchamos "coche chino", nos viene a la cabeza la imagen de un producto de calidad dudosa. Y esto está cambiando a toda velocidad. El desembarco de las marcas chinas en Europa no es una simple invasión comercial al uso: Va más allá, es me atrevo a decir, más peligrosa. Es un movimiento sutil y brillante, porque los gigantes industriales chinos han entendido que para conquistar el exigente mercado occidental no basta con ofrecer un precio bajo. Se necesita diseño, tecnología punta, una seguridad incuestionable y, todavía hoy, sigue ayudando mucho una marca de confianza, una tradición, una historia, un ADN. ¿Y dónde se encuentra todo eso en abundancia? Exacto, en Europa. Por otro lado, marcas europeas con décadas de historia, algunas de ellas en dificultades e incluso al borde de la desaparición, han encontrado en el capital chino el salvavidas que necesitaban. Pero no ha sido un simple rescate. Ha sido una inyección masiva de recursos con la idea de reinventarse y posicionarse como líderes en la nueva era eléctrica. Para hacerlo más fácil, vamos a dividir este fenómeno en tres grandes categorías: Primero, las joyas de la corona europeas que ahora tienen un pasaporte chino. Segundo, las nuevas marcas chinas que han nacido y crecido con un cerebro y un alma de diseño europeo. Y tercero, los matrimonios de conveniencia más recientes, donde dos gigantes se unen para crear una nueva generación de vehículos. Para mí no todo han sido aciertos… hay de todo. Nosotros te lo contamos y tu juzgas. ¡Vamos allá! Categoría 1: Legado europeo con corazón oriental. Aquí es, quizás, donde encontramos las historias más potentes. Lotus. De la ligereza al Hiper-SUV Eléctrico. MG. El Renacer del icono británico. Volvo y Polestar. Modelo de éxito. Categoría 2: Marcas chinas con cerebro europeo. BYD. El gigante que fichó a las estrellas. Lynk & Co. El “Netflix” del automóvil. Categoría 3: Matrimonios de Conveniencia… Smart. Revolución Germano-China. Stellantis y Leapmotor. Un “balón de oxígeno”. ¿Vendrás más? Volvo, MG, Lotus... la lista crece. Y seguirá creciendo. Como veis, el panorama del automóvil ha cambiado para siempre. Ya no se trata de dónde se ensambla la última tuerca, sino de dónde provienen el capital, la tecnología, el diseño y la estrategia. Esta fusión "euro-china" está acelerando la transición eléctrica y aumentando la competencia, lo cual es bueno para nosotros. Surgen muchas preguntas: ¿Es menos europeo un Volvo por tener un dueño chino que ha potenciado su herencia? ¿Es menos chino un BYD por haber sido diseñado por un alemán? Las etiquetas son cada vez más difusas, los estereotipos desaparecen. Hay dos cosas que importan. Una, el producto final. Y muchos de estos coches "euro-chinos" son productos y muy competitivos. Y dos, ¿Dónde van a parar los beneficios? Este asunto, a futuro, es también muy importante… la preponderancia de las marcas europeas y japonesas, está llamada a desaparecer. Conclusión. El concepto de coche "nacional" se va desvaneciendo. Marcas históricas europeas sobreviven gracias a esta unión, mientras que nuevas marcas chinas conquistan nuestro mercado adoptando un alma europea. Esta fusión está acelerando la electrificación… si es bueno o malo, lo veremos con el tiempo.

The scheme offers much cheaper charging than public points, helping hundreds of thousands access affordable home charging for the first time.   Ampere confirms 40% cost‑cut target   Renault's EV unit Ampere reaffirmed its goal to reduce EV costs by 40% by 2028 while reaching break-even in 2025. Success would strengthen Renault's competitiveness and make its next generation of electric models more affordable.   BMW electric paddle board  BMW and SipaBoards have launched an electric self‑inflating stand‑up paddle board featuring modular batteries and digital controls. Priced at €3,990, the innovative board combines quiet motorization, safety features, and app connectivity for water sports enthusiasts.

Verzia WildTrak X obsahuje početné vylepšenia pre náročných, ktoré zlepšujú jazdný komfort, ale aj užitočné doplnky pre jednoduchší prevoz dlhého nákladu.Ako tento naftový pick-up s dvojitým turbom jazdí, v čom sa líši od ostatných verzií a prečo je o 15-tisíc eur drahší ako iná podobná verzia, objasňuje novinár Jozef Murárik.

Leapmotor se fundó en China en 2015, centrándose desde el inicio en crear vehículos eléctricos inteligentes y bien equipados. Con la entrada de Stellantis como socio importante (21 %) en 2023, la marca se ha convertido en parte de un gran plan para distribuir VE fuera de China, utilizando la red y las capacidades de Stellantis para adaptar y fabricar algunos modelos para Europa. La oferta actual de Leapmotor incluye varios modelos destacados que cubren distintos segmentos: T03: compacto urbano eléctrico, pensado para la ciudad. Rango eléctrico decente, buen equipamiento y un precio competitivo en Europa por debajo de los €20.000 en algunos mercados. B10: SUV eléctrico compacto (segmento C), ya disponible para pedidos en Europa a partir de unos €29.900, con la mirada puesta en competir fuerte en su categoría. C10: un SUV más grande (unos 4,7 m) que ofrece versiones totalmente eléctricas y de autonomía extendida (REEV), orientado a familias o quienes necesitan más espacio y flexibilidad. La primera noticia llega de Stellantis, que se ha visto obligada a parar parte de su producción, incluyendo dos plantas en España, debido al exceso de stock acumulado. Analizaremos qué supone este parón para los trabajadores, para la industria auxiliar y qué lectura se puede hacer del estado actual de la automoción en Europa, marcada por una demanda cambiante, incertidumbre en las inversiones y políticas industriales que no siempre acompañan al ritmo del mercado. Seguiremos con Citroën, que acaba de presentar novedades importantes con los nuevos C5 Aircross y C3 Aircross. Hablaremos de cómo la marca mantiene un papel protagonista en el desarrollo de vehículos comerciales y repasaremos los buenos resultados del ë-C3 y el ë-C4, que se sitúan en el top 5 de sus segmentos en el mercado eléctrico. También comentaremos el liderazgo del Citroën Ami entre los cuadriciclos eléctricos y el programa “Citroën We Care”, que amplía la cobertura en motor, caja de cambios y transmisión hasta 8 años o 160.000 kilómetros, reforzando la confianza de sus clientes. En cuanto a Peugeot, repasaremos el crecimiento que la marca está experimentando en este 2025, con una gama que apuesta claramente por la variedad. El 308 y el 308 SW ofrecen cuatro tipos de propulsión: eléctrico, híbrido enchufable, híbrido y diésel, demostrando la estrategia multienergía de la compañía. También miraremos hacia el futuro con el inminente Polygon Concept, que anticipa las líneas de diseño que veremos en la próxima generación. No faltará un repaso al peso de los vehículos comerciales en su negocio y a la nueva oferta Peugeot e-relax, destinada a aumentar la confianza y fidelidad de los usuarios. Cambiamos totalmente de tema para hablar de un coche afectado por la DANA que, tras más de 300 días desde las inundaciones, alguien intentó arrancar en público. Para entender qué riesgos conlleva esta acción contaremos en videollamada con Iván Martín, de Talleres y Grúas Martín, y con Javier Sendín, de Cardiocar, que nos explicarán las consecuencias mecánicas y de seguridad de poner en marcha un vehículo que ha estado sumergido durante tanto tiempo. Nos iremos después hasta París, donde se encuentra Rubén Gómez, que nos contará en qué evento de Dacia está participando y cuáles son las novedades más destacadas que la marca ha presentado en la capital francesa. Seguiremos con Leapmotor, una marca china que está creciendo con fuerza y que empieza a dar pasos firmes en Europa. Repasaremos su gama actual, que incluye el compacto urbano T03, el SUV eléctrico B10 desde apenas 20.000 euros y el C10, un SUV de gran tamaño. También recordaremos la próxima llegada del B05, que ya vimos en Múnich. En septiembre, Leapmotor volvió a batir un récord en China con la entrega de más de 66.000 unidades, lo que muestra claramente el potencial de esta firma emergente. Aragón se perfila como destino de más inversiones de otras empresas chinas del sector de la automoción al calor de las que van dando sus primeros pasos, como las alianzas de Stellantis con CATL y Leapmotor. Lazos que se quisieron estrechar en la VII Noche de la Automoción y la Movilidad del Clúster de la Automoción de Aragón, que se celebró ayer, viernes, en el Palacio de Congresos de Zaragoza.  Entre los reconocimientos en esta Gala destacó el que se concedió al embajador de China en España, Yao Jing, que atendió a los micrófonos de la Cadena SER Aragón.

GAC AION V APPROVED FOR AUSTRALIA Chinese automaker GAC's Aion V electric SUV has been cleared for sale in Australia, featuring a 75 kWh LFP battery for up to 374 miles of range and fast charging from 30% to 80% in 16 minutes. Pricing will start below $45,000 AUD, with deliveries and detailed specs announced closer to launch. TESLA MELBOURNE FSD TEST WAS NOT APPROVED Victorian authorities confirmed Tesla was not authorized to test "Full Self-Driving" on Melbourne's public roads after a viral video showed a Model Y performing an autonomous hook turn in the city center. Tesla says FSD is driver-supervised and not yet legal for autonomous use in Australia, where regulatory permits are required for such trials. Driving the Leapmotor C10 range extender petrol/electric hybrid SUV. The second Leapmotor C10 to grace our shores – the first, the C10 EV – then this C10 REEV, or range extender EV, is a plug-in hybrid, also with an electric motor driving the rear wheels, but adds a 1.5-litre petrol engine which acts purely as a generator to charge up the battery. Leapmotor claim 170km of electric driving on a full battery charge and with a 50-litre fuel tank, producing a total range of 1150km. The styling rounded, very accommodating inside, I drove the top-spec C10 REEV Design with faux leather seats that are extremely comfortable, heated and ventilated plus a , heated steering wheel, but no spare wheel and a dreaded puncture repair kit. And no Apple Car Play and Android Auto. The door handles are awkward, there’s no key – you get a key card to tap on the driver’s side mirror to open the car, then place it on the wireless charger pad to start the car. Price – currently discounted by $4,000 to $45,990 drive-away plus if you’re a Cosco member a further $2,500 discount. There’s much to like with the Leapmoter C10 REEV hybrid SUV but equally there’s much to dislikeSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

We’ve seen many new Chinese EV’s and plug-in hybrid SUV’s arrive but few are set up to suit our driving environment, I’ve just driven the Leapmotor C10 - REEV – standing for range extender electric vehicle – as distinct from the pure electric C10 EV model, the C10 REEV gains a 1.5-litre petrol engine which acts only as a generator to charge the battery – 170 km of electric driving on a full charge, anD impressive total range of 1150km. There’s much to like on the Leapmotor C10 REEV plug-in hybrid – roomy, well built, very highly specified with great seats already heavily discounted by up to $6,500 to $43,490 drive-away. But it has a number of annoyances that make driving a total disappointment – especially incessant warning chimes and speed limit warnings, poorly calibrated at that, overzealous lane keep assist, also no key, a key card which you need to tap on the driver’s side rear view mirror and place on the phone charger for starting, the steering and suspension has little or no feel, and the total lack of buttons for the touchscreen makes it a nightmare to navigate simple tasks quickly and safely. FOLLOW UP: ELECTRIC CAR GRANT FALLOUT CONTINUESAs more details are revealed and more people begin to understand all of the ramifications of the UK Government's Electric Car Grant. Firstly, the list of car eligible for the two tiers of payments will be confirmed on 11 August 2025. The scheme went live on 16 July 2025. Click here to read an Autocar article on this. Secondly, car companies can self-register cars for the scheme and as the rules include Fleet registrations, this opens up the ability for abuse. Whilst these cars contributed to the Zero Emission Vehicle mandate, now tax payer's money will be used to support car companies to be compliant. Click this link here to read more on that from Autocar. There are some suggesting that the overall scheme will have little affect, as was discussed on the show last week. Indicata, a motoring related data firm, has calculated that the grant will affect only 5.8% or 14.4% of new car registrations, dependent on which tier is sought. They also have used information from Italy's attempt as a similar scheme that made a small impact. On top of all that they highlight the danger of dramatic depreciation for newly bought vehicles and those outside of the eligibility of the scheme. This is where a member of staff gets a new car, for a short period of time and then moves onto a new car, whilst paying a much reduced contribution that anyone outside of the scheme would.
