Shoot us a Text.Episode #1268: Today we cover Lithia's reluctance to sell Chinese brands in the U.S., Stellantis quietly bringing diesel back to Europe as EV demand cools, and how companies like Canva and Meta are now testing job candidates on how well they use AI instead of banning it.Show Notes with links: Lithia Motors CEO Bryan DeBoer signaled the company is not planning to be an early retailer of Chinese vehicles in the U.S. or Canada, citing the lack of a built-in service base to support long-term profitability.DeBoer said without an established fleet of vehicles on the road, new Chinese brands would not provide the recurring service traffic dealerships rely on.After-sales generated 41% of Lithia's gross profit in 2025 with a 58% gross margin.Lithia currently sells several Chinese brands in the U.K., including BYD, MG, Chery, Leapmotor and Jaecoo, across a “double-digit” number of stores.DeBoer said entering the U.S. market would require a broader partnership with a Chinese automaker, including greater control over after-sales operations and potentially pricing, in order to make the economics work without an existing service base.Stellantis is quietly reintroducing diesel engines across at least seven models in Europe, positioning the automaker against Chinese EV competitors and responds to sustained customer demand.Diesel accounted for just 7.7% of European new car sales in 2025, compared to 19.5% for fully electric vehicles, but remains a lower-cost alternative for high-mileage and towing customers.Chris Knapman, CarGurus UK editorial director: “If you're a European brand looking to differentiate yourself, diesel is an area where you could have a competitive advantage over those newer brands.”A growing number of companies are no longer trying to prevent candidates from using AI during interviews — they're encouraging it. Firms like Canva, Meta and McKinsey are redesigning hiring processes to evaluate how well applicants work with AI tools.Canva reworked technical interviews to allow — and expect — AI use, focusing on complex problems where candidates must show how they interact with the tool, not just the output.Candidates share their screens or submit AI chat transcripts so interviewers can evaluate judgment, iteration and decision-making.Arcade, an IT startup, now expects candidates to use AI in take-home exercises, emphasizing a candidate's “taste” and ability to refine AI-generated work.Meta is developing AI-assisted coding interviews, and McKinsey is piloting case interviews using its internal AI tool, Lilli.“What we're testing for now … is an ability to harness that power, to control that power — to kind of ride the dragon,” said Canva CTO Brendan Humphreys.Join Paul J Daly and Kyle Mountsier every morning for the Automotive State of the Union podcast as they connect the dots across car dealerships, retail trends, emerging tech like AI, and cultural shifts—bringing clarity, speed, and people-first insight to automotive leaders navigating a rapidly changing industry.Get the Daily Push Back email at https://www.asotu.com/ JOIN the conversation on LinkedIn at: https://www.linkedin.com/company/asotu/
On my route home from work is a big arterial road with a whole line of different car dealerships. There's a Toyota yard, a Ford dealership, a Mazda and a Volkswagon. A series of uber-fancy ones selling everything from Audis to McLarens to Lamborghinis. And as I made my one home one night a couple of weeks ago, a new sign caught my eye. What the hell is Zeekr? I wondered. Actually, truth be told I already had a pretty good hunch and a quick Google that evening confirmed my suspicion. Zeekr is the latest premium Chinese EV company to hit the New Zealand market. You can add it to Geely and Farizon, EV brands owned by the same Chinese conglomerate. Add to those Xpeng, which has its first dealerships and sells a pretty smart-looking coupe SUV. Add to it Leapmotor, Dongfeng and old mate BYD, and if you've spent any time on the road in New Zealand of late, you've surely noticed we are in the midst of a bit of a revolution with Chinese Evs. It's not just us, of course. It's everywhere. Last year, China exported $115B worth of electric vehicles. That was a 43% increase on 2024. And they're not only relying on a single export market for their sales. Chinese EV sales are booming almost everywhere. 66 countries last year spent more than $US 100m on Chinese EVs. Why am I telling you this? Well I reckon there's good reason to think that Donald Trump's decision to scrap emissions standards and environmental regulations this week, is the equivalent of laying down your king and resigning the chess board. It might make combustion engine vehicles a bit cheaper for U.S consumers in the short term, but as the World slowly shifts to cleaner technology, it hands the Chinese EV makers an even greater advantage. Where is the incentive for U.S carmakers to make good EVs? Where is the incentive to push consumers towards electric vehicles? There's a reason Tesla has opposed scrapping the vehicle standards. And what will it mean for U.S carmakers trying to sell into markets where emissions standards are still in place? China's used some pretty extraordinary methods to propel its clean tech industries. They've subsidised and propped up EV makers in a way that foreign manufacturers say is anti-competitive and unfair. But look at BYD's extraordinary vertical integration. They own mining rights. They revolutionised battery technology. They have purpose-built ships, designed to the perfect specifications to maximise the number of vehicles they can export. And look at the quality, the features, and price point of Chinese EVs. There is a reason they are poving so popular. I don't think for a moment that EVs are the solution to everything. But I do think that on balance they'll play a huge part in domestic transport in the near future. If you agree, then in my view Donald Trump and the United States has just thrown in the towel and more or less guaranteed that China will dominate that EV future. Nevo reports that the Irish car market has crossed a landmark moment. New figures released by the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI) show that 7,319 (Up 48.67% on 2025) electric vehicles were registered in January 2026, meaning electric cars officially outsold petrol cars (7,245) for the first time in a single month. It marks a significant acceleration in a trend that has been building steadily over the past number of years. While electrification was once viewed as a long-term ambition, the January data confirms it is now a present-day reality. This is not the first time electric vehicles have overtaken a traditional fuel type. Back in April 2023, EVs outsold diesel cars for the first time on a monthly basis. That moment proved to be a tipping point. By 2025, electric vehicles accounted for 18.9% of all new car sales, while diesel fell to 17.1%, meaning EVs surpassed diesel for the full year as a whole. What makes the January 2026 figures particularly striking is the scale and speed of growth. Ireland registered more electric vehicles in the first 28 days of January (6,0?? units) than in the entire 12 months of 2020, when just 4,013 EVs were sold nationwide. In effect, more than a year's worth of progress has been compressed into just four weeks! This surge has been driven by several converging factors. Public charging infrastructure continues to expand, consumer understanding of electric ownership has improved, and real-world experience has helped dispel many early misconceptions around range and usability. Perhaps most importantly, the long-discussed issue of price is rapidly fading. The arrival of electric family cars priced between €20,000 and €30,000 has effectively burst the so-called pricing myth that EV's are more expensive. In many segments, electric and combustion vehicles now sit at or near price parity. With the reduction in tech and battery prices, many brands now offer entry into EV ownership at sub €20k with real-world range and comfort. For buyers, the decision increasingly comes down not to cost, but to individual needs, driving patterns and lifestyle. Competition has also intensified dramatically. The entrance and rapid growth of Chinese manufacturers such as MG, BYD, XPeng, and, most recently, Leapmotor, have reshaped the market, putting pressure on established brands to be competitive and accelerate innovation. January sales figures by manufacturer place Hyundai firmly in the lead, with Volkswagen and Kia close behind, while BYD and Renault complete the top five best-selling electric brands. Looking at the five best-selling electric vehicles puts the Volkswagen ID.4 on top, followed by the Hyundai Inster, Kia EV3, Hyundai Kona Electric, and the Hyundai Ioniq 5. The year ahead will see the arrival of many more exciting new electric vehicles. This means together, the data points to a clear conclusion that Ireland is no longer approaching an electric future; it is firmly entering one! "Seeing the total numbers of EVs sold for January is hugely encouraging. At Nevo, we all hope our RDS-based Electric Vehicle Show and our nationwide Driving Experience events have played a small part in these numbers by giving people real, hands-on exposure. Once drivers experience EVs properly, the numbers tend to speak for themselves," said Simon Andreucetti, Managing Director at Nevo "This is genuinely excellent news. It shows Irish motorists are confident, informed, and ready for change! EVs outselling combustion power in a single month isn't symbolic anymore, it's fact. Choice, pricing parity and real-world experience have finally aligned, and the market is moving decisively forward. Our Nevo YouTube channel growth reflects this trend with more people consuming and engaging with our content monthly," added Derek Reilly, Content & PR Director at Nevo.

In Episode 236, Tu and Lei deliver one of their most wide-ranging and revealing conversations yet—covering Tesla's strategic retreat from cars, China's accelerating dominance in EVs, autonomy, and robotics, and unveiling the inaugural China EVs & More Awards - the EViesThe episode opens with Tesla's bombshell earnings call: the Model S and Model X are effectively retired, revenues decline for a second straight year, yet the stock rallies on promises of robotaxis, robotics, and AI abundance. Tu and Lei explain why Wall Street is betting on a future Tesla that is no longer a car company—and why China's crowded robotaxi and robotics markets make that future far less certain than investors believe. They contrast Tesla's promises with reality on the ground in China, where BYD, NIO, XPeng, Huawei, Geely, and Xiaomi are rapidly upgrading ADAS, launching new models, and redefining value. The discussion highlights how Western media is only now “discovering” vehicles like the Xiaomi SU7 and YU7, despite Chinese OEMs offering Model 3/Y-level features at half the price. The second half of the episode introduces the China EVs & More Awards, recognizing the companies, products, and people that defined the year—while exposing who fell behind. From Zombie Company of the Year to EV of the Year, the awards spark debate around survival, execution, and scale in the world's most competitive auto market. The episode closes with a sober look at automation, delivery, labor displacement, and UBI, asking whether autonomy will ultimately create abundance—or social shock—across global mobility systems.Insightful, provocative, and data-driven, this episode explains why China EV Inc. is no longer the future—it's the present.___

Episode 234 may go down as one of the most consequential conversations yet on China EVs & More. Tu and Lei unpack the Canada–China trade truce that effectively opens the door for Chinese EV imports into North America—and why this moment could trigger a chain reaction across the U.S., Mexico, and global auto markets. Canada's decision to allow up to 49,000 Chinese EVs at just 6.1% tariffs isn't about volume—it's about symbolism. Once the door opens, it rarely closes. The hosts explain why this move pressures the U.S. ahead of USMCA renegotiations, accelerates conversations around Chinese manufacturing in Canada, and raises the stakes for GM, Ford, and the German luxury brands already losing ground in China. The episode also breaks down 2025 China auto and NEV sales, showing a maturing but brutally competitive market where growth now comes from stealing share, not market expansion. With BYD, Geely, Chery, Leapmotor, and Huawei-backed brands targeting aggressive 2026 volumes, the pressure on legacy OEMs—especially BMW, Mercedes, Audi, and Porsche—has never been higher.Tu and Lei debate which Chinese OEMs are best positioned for Canada and eventually the U.S., why affordable EVs in the $30–40K range are the real battleground, and how price cuts of 10–25% by German brands reveal structural inefficiencies long masked by premium margins.Strategic, provocative, and deeply grounded in real data, this episode explains why North America just entered a new phase of the China EV story—and why the next 12–18 months may redefine the global auto industry.___

Tu and Lei close out 2025 with a sweeping, on-the-ground review of the most consequential year yet for China's EV, AV, and mobility ecosystem — and why its ripple effects are now impossible for the rest of the world to ignore. From CES to Shanghai, Munich, and New York, the hosts reflect on firsthand experiences that defined the year: China's EV export surge, the maturation of robotaxis, the cooling of the domestic price war, and the emergence of clear winners — and vulnerabilities — among Chinese and global automakers. They break down why BYD became a true global volume force, how XPeng, Geely, and Zeekr gained momentum, why NIO's long game is finally paying off, and what the rise of autonomous mobility outside China (Waymo, Baidu, WeRide, Pony.ai) means heading into 2026.The episode also revisits major inflection points: • Chinese EV exports flooding Europe, Latin America, Russia, and the UK • The beginning of an exported price war • Robotaxis moving from pilots to real commercial expansion • Why average vehicle prices topping $50,000 in the U.S. is unsustainable • How geopolitics, tariffs, and supply chains reshaped strategy • Why 2026 could be the year autonomy truly breaks throughCandid, data-driven, and reflective — this episode connects the dots on how 2025 reshaped the global auto industry and sets the stage for what comes next.⸻
In Episode 229, Tu and Lei unpack the November China EV sales inflection point and what it reveals about the next phase of the global auto industry. With subsidies set to expire in 2026, November marked the real start of China's year-end “mad dash.” The numbers show a clear split: Xiaomi, XPeng, Leapmotor, Geely, and NIO accelerating, while BYD and Li Auto lose momentum and Tesla slips into negative growth territory in China. The hosts explain why Xiaomi's YU7 and SU7 have proven unusually resilient, how XPeng's AI-first strategy is paying off, and why Leapmotor and Geely are now knocking on the million-unit club—a threshold that even legacy premium brands have failed to reach in China. They also tackle the bigger strategic question facing Western automakers: Is it still worth competing in China? Tu and Lei argue that China remains irreplaceable as the world's largest single passenger-vehicle market—and that exporting from China, leveraging local tech partners, and embracing “China-for-China” design is no longer optional. The episode closes with a deep discussion on embodied AI, smart glasses, silicon strategy, and why companies like Xiaomi, XPeng, and Li Auto are no longer just carmakers—but ecosystem builders trying to define the future of mobility.Insightful, data-driven, and grounded in real market dynamics, this episode explains why 2026 may be the most decisive year yet for both Chinese EV leaders and global legacy automakers.___

Three major stories from December 9, 2025 reveal fundamentally different strategic approaches as Chinese EV companies and autonomous driving firms face an increasingly brutal 2026 market. This episode analyzes NIO's battery philosophy, Waymo's safety crisis, and Li Auto's organizational reset to determine which strategy will succeed long-term.NIO's Onvo president Shen Fei stated in a December 8 interview that extended-range electric vehicles with large battery packs represent a waste of resources. His argument is that with charging infrastructure increasingly developed in China, EREVs with large battery packs not only sacrifice interior space but also create unnecessary cost burdens, adding approximately 15,000 REN per range extender for automakers and consumers. Shen explained that EREVs and battery-swap-enabled vehicles compete on different dimensions, with larger batteries and fuel tanks representing incremental innovation while battery swapping constitutes systemic innovation requiring companies to address numerous challenges.Supporting this philosophy, approximately 40 percent of Onvo L90 owners, which comes standard with an 85 kWh battery pack, downgrade to the lower-capacity 60 kWh pack, saving about 3,600 REN in annual battery rental costs. Shen noted most owners no longer experience range anxiety thanks to charging infrastructure expansion. This contrasts with recent competitor launches including Leapmotor's D19 large SUV with 80 kWh battery, the largest among Chinese EREVs, and XPeng's X9 EREV with 63.3 kWh battery offering 452 km CLTC range. On December 5, Onvo announced deployment of over 8,000 new battery packs in battery swap stations available to its vehicles, with completion expected by mid-January 2026. Currently, Onvo accesses 2,300 NIO battery swap stations housing approximately 7,000 battery packs. Beyond serving vehicle owners, these batteries generate revenue by providing grid services. In Zhejiang province, each battery earns approximately 1.2 REN per kWh, with average usable capacity of 50 kWh generating roughly 60 REN daily or 20,000 REN annually per battery.Waymo faces a major safety crisis after the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration forced a software recall following 19 incidents of Waymo autonomous vehicles illegally passing school buses with flashing red lights and extended stop signs during student pickup and dropoff. US traffic laws mandate all vehicles stop immediately when school buses activate red warning lights, with violations carrying 1,000 dollar fines for human drivers. The Austin Independent School District requested Waymo suspend operations during critical school hours, but Waymo refused, citing disagreement with the district's risk assessment and defending operations using its safety record. After claiming a November 17 software update fixed the vulnerability, five additional violations occurred within two weeks. The Austin school district reported 19 total recorded incidents since the 2025-26 school year began. When questioned by NHTSA about ceasing operations, software fix effectiveness, and recall plans, Waymo was required to respond by January 20, 2026. Waymo Chief Safety Officer Mauricio Peña emphasized internal statistics showing pedestrian injury accident incidence one-twelfth that of human drivers while announcing voluntary software recall for appropriately slowing and stopping in relevant scenarios.Waymo's aggressive expansion across San Francisco, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Austin, Atlanta with planned 2026 entry into Las Vegas, San Diego, and Detroit has been accompanied by numerous safety incidents. NHTSA data shows at least 14 animal collision incidents. Local residents report Waymo vehicles transformed from overly courteous to aggressive behavior including weaving through tunnels, incomplete stops at stop signs, squeezing past vehicles, and illegal U-turns. When asked why Robotaxi became increasingly aggressive, Chris Ludwick, Waymo Senior
The Chinese EV market is entering 2026 facing unprecedented challenges as subsidies end, competition intensifies, and market growth stalls. This episode analyzes what NIO and other Chinese automakers face in 2026 based on recent statements from XPeng CEO He Xiaopeng and NIO CEO Li Bin, both warning that next year's competition will be more brutal and bloody than 2025.On November 20, 2025, after launching the XPeng X9 extended-range version, He Xiaopeng stated: "I think every car company is on tenterhooks. Everyone wants to go far and achieve steady progress. A year ago we could hardly have imagined the changes we have now, and we can hardly imagine them a year from now. The only thing I can be sure of is that the competition will be even more brutal and bloody." The following day, NIO CEO Li Bin echoed this sentiment: "I agree with what Mr. Xiaopeng said. The intensity of competition in the Chinese auto market is actually increasing every year. Which year is not bloody? Which year is not cruel? Perhaps it will not be until 2035 that the pattern will truly stabilize."Three core realities will define 2026 for Chinese EV companies. First, the market has shifted from blitzkrieg to war of attrition. Li Bin explained that defeating competitors with a single move is extremely difficult, stating that being one year ahead in core technologies is already remarkable. He emphasized that success requires being one to two percentage points more efficient than competitors in every aspect, with no weaknesses allowed. This is a long-term marathon requiring comprehensive capabilities rather than breakthrough innovations.Second, the Chinese auto market is shrinking rather than growing. From November 1 to November 23, 2025, national passenger vehicle retail sales showed both year-over-year and month-over-month declines. The era of rapid growth has ended, replaced by competition for existing market share. With trade-in subsidies completely phased out and purchase tax subsidies cut in half starting January 1, 2026, market conditions will worsen in Q1 2026. Li Bin acknowledged that early reduction of trade-in subsidies eliminated the year-end boost effect in Q4 2025, with all NIO models except ES8, Firefly, and ET9 affected to varying degrees, explaining November's month-over-month delivery decline to 36,275 units.Third, product launch frequency has become a key battleground with divergent strategies. XPeng plans to launch seven extended-range models in 2026. HarmonyOS will release more than 20 new cars next year. Leapmotor, having achieved its 500,000 unit target 45 days early, is targeting 1 million deliveries in 2026 with multiple new models across A and D series. However, Li Bin announced NIO will only launch three new models in 2026, stating: "I don't think we have to keep releasing new models. Look at this year, we only have two models and they are selling quite well. We don't necessarily have to release them so frequently, and the team may not be able to manage it."XPeng's market capitalization has fallen nearly 30 percent since mid-November despite announcing ambitious physical AI initiatives at their early November Tech Day, including humanoid robot IRON, flying cars, second-generation VLA large model, and three Robotaxi models planned for 2026 launch. The company repositioned as a mobility explorer in physical AI and globally embodied intelligence company. In contrast, Tesla's Optimus robot demonstrations contributed to Tesla's market cap surging over 40 percent in the second half of 2025 despite showing similar or less advanced capabilities. This valuation gap highlights how US markets reward technology narratives while Chinese markets remain skeptical, valuing Chinese EV companies primarily as automakers rather than technology platforms despite comparable or superior technical capabilities.

Li Auto reported Q3 2025 financial results showing the company's first quarterly loss in 11 quarters, marking a dramatic reversal for the former top performer among Chinese EV startups. This episode analyzes Li Auto's crisis and explains why NIO investors need to understand what's happening with one of their biggest competitors in the Chinese electric vehicle market.Li Auto's Q3 2025 performance showed severe deterioration across key metrics. Revenue totaled 27.4 billion REN, down 36.2 percent year-over-year. The company posted a net loss of 624 million REN, ending an 11-quarter profitability streak that had made Li Auto an industry benchmark. Vehicle deliveries fell to 93,200 units in Q3, down 39 percent year-over-year, forcing the company to lower its annual sales target twice in 2025, from an initial 700,000 vehicles to 640,000 vehicles.Vehicle gross profit margin declined from 20.9 percent to 15.5 percent. Li Auto attributed this partly to recall impacts, stating the margin would have been approximately 19.8 percent excluding recalls. However, even the adjusted figure represents significant pressure compared to historical peaks. November 2025 deliveries totaled 33,181 units, down 31.9 percent year-over-year, placing Li Auto last among major Chinese EV startups behind NIO's 36,275 and XPeng's 36,728 deliveries.Three core problems contributed to Li Auto's crisis. First, the company's range-extended electric vehicle technology became commoditized as competitors including Leapmotor, XPeng, and Xiaomi launched similar products with better specifications at lower prices. Market data shows range-extended vehicles' share in China's new energy vehicle market declined from 10.7 percent in 2024 to 9.8 percent in first half 2025, with range-extended sales declining year-over-year for five consecutive months since June.Second, Li Auto's pure electric transformation encountered major obstacles. The MEGA flagship pure electric model launched in 2025 with controversial futuristic design that failed to resonate with consumers. The i8 pure electric SUV delivered only approximately 5,700 units monthly average in September and October 2025, falling far short of expectations. While the lower-priced i6 pure electric sedan achieved nearly 50,000 pre-orders in 48 hours, its success created internal competition, cannibalizing sales from the higher-positioned i8 and existing range-extended L series models.Third, internal management and supply chain issues compounded operational challenges. Li Auto's attempt to implement a professional manager governance system borrowed from Huawei proved incompatible with the company's entrepreneurial culture. At the Q3 earnings conference, CEO Li Xiang acknowledged the system failure, stating it resulted in longer decision chains and decreased efficiency, calling recent years performance the worst version of ourselves. The company announced a full return to startup mode beginning Q4 2025. Additionally, over-reliance on single suppliers caused the i6 to be impacted by component shortages affecting production schedules.Li Auto is attempting a turnaround through three strategies. First, massive R&D investment with full-year 2025 R&D expenses expected to reach 12 billion REN, with over 6 billion REN allocated to artificial intelligence and intelligent driving, representing more than 50 percent of total R&D budget. Second, product diversification including a December 2, 2025 announcement of strategic partnership with Zeiss to release smart glasses. Third, organizational restructuring by abandoning professional manager systems and returning to agile startup execution mode. For NIO investors, Li Auto's crisis reveals three critical lessons.
NIO reported November 2025 deliveries of 36,275 vehicles on December 1, 2025, representing the company's second-highest monthly total on record behind October's 40,397 units. This marks a 76.31 percent increase year-over-year but a 10.20 percent decline month-over-month. With Q4 delivery guidance of 120,000 to 125,000 vehicles, this episode analyzes whether NIO can still achieve its first quarterly profit in Q4 2025.Breaking down November deliveries by brand reveals divergent trends. The NIO main brand delivered 18,393 vehicles, up 18.72 percent year-over-year and up 7.29 percent month-over-month, marking four consecutive months of growth driven by strong ES8 demand. Onvo delivered 11,794 vehicles, up 132.07 percent year-over-year but down 31.99 percent from October's 17,343 units. Firefly achieved a record 6,088 deliveries, up 2.98 percent month-over-month, representing the third consecutive month of record-breaking performance. The sharp decline in Onvo deliveries reflects the impact of phased-out vehicle trade-in subsidies across multiple Chinese provinces and cities. NIO founder William Li stated during a November 26 media briefing that the abrupt withdrawal of trade-in subsidies significantly impacted the market in ways the industry hadn't anticipated, leading to a sharp decline in new orders across the sector. Li noted all models except the NIO ES8, Firefly, and upcoming ET9 have been affected by these policy changes. With October and November combined deliveries of 76,672 vehicles, NIO needs to deliver between 43,328 and 48,328 vehicles in December to meet Q4 guidance of 120,000 to 125,000 total units. December 2024 saw NIO deliver 50,045 vehicles, setting a monthly record at the time. Matching that performance while Onvo faces a 32 percent month-over-month decline presents a significant challenge.Analyzing Q4 profitability potential using the delivery numbers: if NIO achieves 117,000 to 121,000 Q4 deliveries at an average selling price around 280,000 REN mixing ES8, Onvo, and Firefly, revenue would total approximately 32.76 to 33.88 billion REN, aligning with management guidance of 32.76 to 34.04 billion REN. With management targeting approximately 18 percent vehicle margin for Q4 and ES8 margins exceeding 20 percent, gross margin at company level of 15-16 percent would generate 4.9 to 5.4 billion REN in gross profit. Against quarterly operating expenses of approximately 6.2 billion REN including 2 billion REN R&D and 4.2 billion SG&A, this suggests an operating loss of 800 million to 1.3 billion REN unless ES8 over-delivers, SG&A comes in lower than expected, or other income sources like swap network revenue contribute more significantly. From January to November 2025, NIO Inc delivered 277,893 vehicles total, representing 45.62 percent year-over-year growth and achieving 63.15 percent of the 440,000 annual target. The NIO main brand delivered 146,909 vehicles during this period, down 18.65 percent year-over-year. Onvo delivered 98,654 vehicles since beginning deliveries in September 2024, while Firefly has delivered 32,330 vehicles since launching in April 2025.Competitive context shows significant industry reshuffling. Leapmotor delivered 70,327 vehicles in November, achieving its 500,000 unit annual target 45 days early and targeting 1 million units for 2026. XPeng delivered 36,728 in November, having already met its 350,000 annual target in October. Li Auto delivered only 33,181 vehicles in November, down 31.9 percent year-over-year, achieving just 56.5 percent of its revised 640,000 unit target. HarmonyOS delivered over 80,000 vehicles in November with 513,000 year-to-date against a 1 million unit target. Xiaomi Auto exceeded 40,000 November deliveries and surpassed 500,000 cumulative deliveries, exceeding its initial 350,000 annual target.NIO's strategic shift emphasizes operational quality over sales volume with the core goal being annual profitability.

CAPÍTULO 6: GREAT WALL MOTOR, EL ESPECIALISTA EN SUVs.

Vamos a responder a dos preguntas aparentemente sencillas: ¿Qué significa hoy en día "Made in Europe"? ¿Qué significa "Made in China"?

The €1.5 billion joint venture includes major investment in battery production at Zaragoza, positioning Leapmotor for broader European expansion under Stellantis's international partnership. SK ON OPENS SOLID-STATE BATTERY PILOT PLANT SK On has opened a Daejeon, South Korea pilot facility focused on sulphide- and polymer-oxide solid-state battery development, aiming for commercialization of sulphide-based cells in 2029—one year ahead of schedule. Backed by Solid Power's tech, the facility will produce prototype batteries featuring advanced lithium-metal and silicon anodes with targets up to 1,000 Wh/l energy density. RIVIAN BREAKS GROUND ON GEORGIA PLANT Rivian has started building a $5 billion EV plant in Georgia, aiming for 200,000 vehicles yearly by 2028, unaffected by the discontinuation of federal EV tax credits. The facility will support scale and lower costs for new models like the R2, following Tesla's profitability playbook as Rivian moves into higher-volume, lower-priced vehicles. RENAULT 4 EV GETS A CARGO VAN VARIANT Renault's new electric 4 is now offered as a cargo van with a load capacity of 1,045 litres and up to 254 miles of range, priced in France from €29,300 before VAT. GAC AION V APPROVED FOR AUSTRALIA Chinese automaker GAC's Aion V electric SUV has been cleared for sale in Australia, featuring a 75 kWh LFP battery for up to 374 miles of range and fast charging from 30% to 80% in 16 minutes. Pricing will start below $45,000 AUD, with deliveries and detailed specs announced closer to launch. TESLA MELBOURNE FSD TEST WAS NOT APPROVED Victorian authorities confirmed Tesla was not authorized to test "Full Self-Driving" on Melbourne's public roads after a viral video showed a Model Y performing an autonomous hook turn in the city center. Tesla says FSD is driver-supervised and not yet legal for autonomous use in Australia, where regulatory permits are required for such trials. TESLA ADDS 7‑YEAR WARRANTY TO SOME PARTS Tesla's 2026 model year vehicles in the US and Canada now carry a “High-Priced Propulsion-Related Part Warranty,” giving seven years' coverage for key electrical components like the power conversion system and high-voltage parts. This new warranty is separate from existing battery and drive unit terms, aimed at lowering costly repair risk for buyers. NHTSA OPENS PROBE INTO 2021 TESLA MODEL Y DOORS U.S. safety regulators have launched a probe into 174,000 Model Y vehicles from 2021 after reports the electronic door handles could fail, potentially trapping children inside. Preliminary findings suggest the issue is linked to low-voltage battery problems, and several parents broke windows to access their children during incidents. SUZUKI LAUNCHES E VITARA EV IN JAPAN IN JANUARY Suzuki's first battery-electric car, the e Vitara SUV, will go on sale in Japan in January 2026, produced in India for export and offering 267 miles per charge at around $27,000. It represents Suzuki's major push into global EVs with significant investments and ambitions for high-volume exports. ID. TOUAREG COULD BE THE FIRST SSP MODEL Volkswagen may transform its Touareg into the first fully electric SSP platform model, with combustion production ending in 2026 and SSP assembly possibly starting in Bratislava by 2029. The SSP platform promises cost savings and fast charging, with VW's wider rollout across brands and models to follow. VOLKSWAGEN DROPS FLUSH DOOR HANDLES FOR FUNCTION Volkswagen will move away from flush-mounted door handles in favor of traditional grab handles in response to customer frustration, as outlined by the brand's CEO at IAA Mobility. The company's next-gen ID. models will prioritize practicality to appeal to mainstream buyers over early adopters. NISSAN CUTS NEW LEAF OUTPUT OVER BATTERY SHORTAGE Nissan has halved production plans for its new Leaf due to shortfalls in battery supply, with revised output at the Tochigi plant being several thousand lower per month. The cutback delays a key launch for Nissan, which is betting on the new Leaf to reinvigorate its lagging EV business.
