Dean's Chat host, Dr. Jeffrey Jensen, is joined by Dr. Alan MacGill. Dr. MacGill is board-certified by The American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery in foot surgery as well as reconstructive rearfoot and ankle surgery, the latter of which is only achieved by a fraction of the current practicing foot and ankle surgeons in the country.  Dr. MacGill is one of a handful of surgeons in the Miami area currently performing total ankle replacement with preoperative computerized tomography (CT) -guided navigation and custom cutting guides: a technological evolution that enhances implant position and ultimate longevity of the new joint.  He is a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS) and currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors as well as the Chair of the Regions Presidents Council. A native of Florida, Dr. MacGill grew up in Tampa and attended the University of Florida in Gainesville. He majored in Pre-Medical studies and minored in Sociology, earning his Bachelor of Science degree with honors. He then attended The William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine at Rosalind Franklin University in North Chicago, Illinois. He graduated in the top 10th percentile of his class and matched with his first choice for residency at Florida Hospital in Orlando, Florida; a top-tier foot and ankle surgical residency in Florida by case volume and diversity.  During his residency, he completed numerous additional surgical training courses with an emphasis on adult and pediatric reconstructive surgery, external fixation, ankle arthroscopy, lower extremity trauma, and diabetic limb salvage. In 2007, Dr. MacGill was selected for the prestigious AO International Trauma Fellowship with Sigvard Hansen, Jr., MD, Chairman Emeritus-Orthopedics at the University of Washington's School of Medicine. Dr. MacGill completed his fellowship in the spring of 2009, gaining additional training in total ankle replacement as well as complex Charcot foot and ankle reconstruction.  Dr. MacGill is the Director of the Foot and Ankle Surgery residency program at Northwest Medical Center in Margate, FL and previously served as Assistant Director and Research Director for the Bethesda Health Foot and Ankle Surgery residency program in Boynton Beach, FL. He participates in weekly didactic lectures, surgical grand rounds, journal club meetings, and cadaver lab workshops with the residents and students. He has also published several articles in peer-reviewed journals, given award-winning case presentations at state scientific meetings, presented numerous scientific research posters, and lectured at both state and national conferences.  Dr. MacGill is also a Certified Wound Specialist (CWS) by The American Board of Wound Management and treats problematic lower extremity wounds both in the office and at the Broward Health Wound Care & Hyperbaric Medicine Center in Coral Springs, FL. The center achieved the “Center of Distinction” award for the 8th consecutive year and the “Center of Excellence” award for the 6th consecutive year. Both awards are given for exceeding benchmarks for healing and patient satisfaction.  Furthermore, Dr. MacGill is a member in good standing with the American Podiatric Medical Association, the Florida Podiatric Medical Association, and is a former officer of the Palm Beach County Podiatric Medical Association.  In his spare time, Dr. MacGill enjoys running, cycling, participating in triathlons, softball, golf, and going to the beach with his wife and two children. Bombshell allegations have been made in court that cricketer Stuart MacGill facilitated cocaine deals at his restaurant on Sydney's North Shore. Luke and Tiffany Hale had spent five years saving up a deposit for a house – only to see it vanish in seconds thanks to scammers. Two years after retired cricketer Michael Slater was kicked off a Qantas flight for being “disruptive”, it has emerged that one of the women he argued with on that short-haul Sydney to Wagga Wagga flight was the same woman who sought and obtained an AVO against Slater in October. Mandatory masks are out and school excursions and sports carnivals back on amid plans to make 2022 a “disruption free” year of schooling.  For updates and breaking news throughout the day take out a subscription at dailytelegraph.com.au. The Beer Healer is Live and on the road for this episode, which is great fun but provides a few little challenges, as you will hear! There is a new venue in Tasmania, and it is getting people a little bit excited. Why? Well, it's been a while in the making, and as the building took shape, it has piqued peoples interest. I have even heard the words, Destination Venue being thrown around...okay, that was actually me using that term! Anyway, I've been to a few breweries in my life, and I have to say that Deep South Brewing, a few minutes walk from Hobart's CBD, is right up there. For the most part, the trend in recent years has been to keep it pretty simple with taprooms at new breweries...concentrate on producing great beer, get creative in building a bar to save some cash, and feed the patrons with a food truck. Not Deep South Brewing, the place is schmick...12 taps of beer from the brewery, and a few friends, a serious wine list and the food...well, it's bloody delicious. This new venue is the brainchild of a few Tassie mates, and one of them happens to be an OG of the Tassie Brewing scene, ex Moo Brew (twice) and Temple Head Brewer, Dave McGill, who joins me for this episode!Deep South BrewingDeep South InstaWant to help spread the craft beer gospel?Follow me on Instagram, Facebook, or YouTubeRate, Review and Subscribe on Apple Podcasts...click the link on your phone and scroll to the bottomOr Follow/Subscribe on your favourite podcast player

One teammate I wish I got to know even better during my playing days was the great Stuart MacGill, this week's guest on Lessons Learnt with the Greats. Macca didn't care about economy rate or average, he cared about taking wickets, which he did at a strike rate few have ever matched. In Part 1, Macca talks about playing behind Shane Warne, playing under different captains, his bizarre strategy against fast bowlers (it worked on me!) and goes into great detail about the technical side of leg-spin bowling. This is a must-listen for all aspiring leggies. Episode rundown01:48 - We begin by talking about how Macca dealt with playing behind Shane Warne and making sure he was always the 'next guy'10:17 - When I was playing with and against Macca there was never a dull moment and here we discuss how he used to get under the skin of his opponents, including me!16:12 - I go over some of Macca's incredible statistics as he explains how leadership played an important role in his career38:43 - We dedicate the remainder of Part 1 to Macca's technical checklist and the craft of leg-spin bowling See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

My guest in this episode, Dave MacGill from Moo Brew, is a pillar of the brewing community in Tasmania and has worked for over a decade in one of the first craft breweries established in the state.Moo Brew appeared in local bottleshops and high end grocery stores in 2005, selling its flavoursome ales in fancy bottles with labels designed by artist John Kelly…it's fair to say that it was a little bit of a shock to the traditional mainstream drinker in Tasmania who were used to picking between the Draught Beer from either the North or the South of the state. But somehow it worked, and drinkers began enjoy what a Pale Ale should be, how a true Pilsener tasted and the joys that could be found in a Dark Ale. After helping to establish Moo Brew, Dave moved to Melbourne for a few years where he set up Temple Brewery. In 2013, he returned to Tasmania, and Moo Brew, to take up the position of General Manager and lead the now well established brewery into the future in a very competitive market.Dave has been heavily involved in the Aussie brewing industry for many years in many different capacities, brewer, general manager and Vice President of the Tassie Independent Brewers Association.Enjoy the episode!https://www.facebook.com/BeerHealer

Elsie MacGill was a woman of unusual capability and resilience. Born in Vancouver on March 27, 1905, she was the first woman to graduate with an electrical engineering degree from the University of Toronto, then the first woman to receive her masters in aeronautical engineering from the University of Michigan. Although she contracted polio the same year, the determined young engineer defied the odds and taught herself to walk with two metal canes. She went on to become the first woman to design and test aircraft. Though her disability prevented her from becoming a pilot, she insisted on being a passenger on all test flights to better understand the planes’ performance. During World War II, MacGill became chief engineer of the Hawker Hurricane, a fighter plane used during the Battle of Britain. In 1943, MacGill married William Soulsby, moved to Toronto and started her own consulting firm. Beyond work, MacGill became an author and actively supported women in business. Among her numerous honours were the Order of Canada, the 1967 centennial medal and the Amelia Earhart medal from the International Association of Women Pilots. She was also inducted into Canada’s Aviation Hall of Fame and the Canadian Science and Engineering Hall of Fame. She died in 1980 at the age of 75. 10 Questions with Adam Zwar

The champion Australian leg spinner, Stuart MacGill. Now, I’d probably be happy to devote more of this podcast to cricket, but I’ve held off because I wanted to speak to a cricketer who thinks a little deeper about life and the world than your average test legend. In cricketing terms, Stuart was an incredibly gifted leg spin bowler who turned the ball a mile and had a brilliant test average, and who just happened to come along at the same time as the greatest of all leg spinner bowlers, Shane Warne. But MacGill never tried to compete with Warne. Warne was all bravado and glamour – whereas MacGill held his emotions in check. The facts are that MacGill is the seventh quickest in history to get 200 wickets – getting to the milestone faster than both Warne and the all time greatest wicket taker, Muttiah Muralitharan. Outside of cricket, Stuart’s a voracious reader – famously reading 42 novels on a tour of Pakistan. He is politically aware – once boycotting a tour of Zimbabwe because he wasn’t comfortable with the Mugabe regime. In 2000, he married the Australian actress Rachel Friend and the couple, who separated in 2013, have two children together. Since he retired in 2008, he’s hosted a TV show about wine and been a coach for hire. He’s had a few public ups and downs, but now he’s getting back to a good place and I encourage you all to follow his witty and polemical Twitter account @scgmacgill.   Socials Twitter - Adam Zwar / Stuart MacGill Facebook - Adam Zwar / Stuart MacGill   10 Questions with Adam Zwar is produced in party by Nearly.
