Abstract: Since ancient Greece, major and minor modes in Western tonal music have been identified as the primary responsible musical feature for eliciting emotional states. The underlying correlates of the major-minor mode dichotomy in music perception have been extensively investigated through decades of psychological and neuroscientific research. This comprehensive systematic review aims to synthesise the literature on musical mode perception and its behavioural and physiological correlates. The qualitative synthesis resulted in 70 studies, showing great diversity in how the major-minor dichotomy has been empirically approached. Most studies were conducted on adults, considered participants' expertise, employed real-life musical stimuli, performed behavioural evaluations, and were published from 2010 onwards. Based on our findings, a framework to describe a Major-Minor Mode(l) of music perception and its behavioural and physiological correlates is proposed, incorporating individual factors such as age, expertise, cultural background, and emotional disorders. Limitations, implications, and suggestions for future research are discussed, including putative clinical applications of major-minor perception and best practices regarding stimulation paradigms for musical mode investigation. This week we're discussing every album by Thrice. If you're a fan of this band, you'll have to wait in line if you want to stab us. To say we didn't enjoy our time with them might be an understatement. Thrice started out emo, then grew into a brutal post-metal band for about 5 minutes before maturing into standard alt rock. In this season of the Queens Memory podcast, “Our Major Minor Voices,” we feature stories from our neighbors of Asian descent in Queens, New York. One in four Queens residents identifies as Asian American – that’s over 650,000 people with roots in more than 120 Asian countries. They speak over 800 languages and make up the largest urban concentration of Asian Americans in the nation. The stories in the third season of the podcast, “Our Major Minor Voices,” document the experiences of our borough’s rich and diverse Asian communities in their own voices. Each episode features stories about identity and belonging from this broad array of people who have made valuable contributions through their cultural traditions, belief systems, and linguistic diversity. Bookended by the season introduction and finale, the series includes eight bilingual episodes representing the most widely spoken Asian languages in Queens: Bangla, Hindi, Korean, Mandarin, Nepali, Tagalog, Tibetan, and Urdu. Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, these communities have been in turmoil. Already grappling with longstanding issues such as income inequality, immigration barriers, and racial stereotyping, Asian Americans now faced concerns for their personal health and public safety. In this unique moment, we aim to document the stories of these vital communities and capture snapshots of our ever-changing neighborhoods as they are now. Season Three’s production team includes Melody Cao, Anna Williams, Natalie Milbrodt, Jiefei Yuan, Cory Choy, Meral Agish,Tenzin Choklay, Indranil Choudhury, Shradha Ghale, Peter Gill, Stella Gu, Syma Mohammed, Trisha Mukherjee, Heidi Shin, Rosalind Tordesillas, with music by Elias Ravin. This podcast has been made possible in part by the National Endowment for the Humanities: Democracy demands wisdom. We often tell ourselves that it's okay it's just a minor sin. I am not harming anyone. But little we know, how minor sins collectively can lead us to committing a major sin one day. Shaytaan's trap works differently on everyone one of us. He pushes us away from our faith, and gradually we fall into minor sins, and then we normalize them. And within sometime, we fall into major sins as well. And if we don't stop and ask for Allah's forgiveness then our hearts stop feeling bad after sinning. So it's important to understand that minor sins are also dangerous and more than the major-minor debate, think about whom are we going against? Allah. Our rab'b, our creator. May Allah keep us safe from sins and hellfire. May Allah make us among who listen and apply.
This week, I'm highlighting an album that came out in the year 2016, Thrice's "To Be Everywhere Is to Be Nowhere". This was my favorite record released in 2016, so I felt as if it needed to be remembered and honored appropriately. To Be Everywhere Is to Be Nowhere is the ninth studio album by American rock band Thrice. The album was released on May 27, 2016, through Vagrant Records. To Be Everywhere Is to Be Nowhere is Thrice's first release after a four-year hiatus that lasted from mid-2012 to mid-2015, and the band's first album of original material in five years since 2011's Major/Minor. During the hiatus, most of the band members continued performing music and pursued other interests, which included moving to other cities or states with their new families. After reuniting and performing sporadic festival dates in 2015, Thrice announced the band's intention to release a new album the following year. Because of the distance between the members' new homes, the demos for To Be Everywhere Is to Be Nowhere were written, recorded, shared and worked on digitally using software programs that were not as prevalent before they went on hiatus. Produced by Eric Palmquist, the resulting recording was a hard rock, post-hardcore and grunge album that features songs with more politically and socially charged lyrics than those on previous Thrice albums. Thrice formally announced the release of To Be Everywhere Is to Be Nowhere in March 2016 and released two singles in support of the album; "Black Honey" in May 2016 and "Hurricane" in April 2017. The album managed to reach number 15 on the Billboard Hot 200, and received mostly positive reviews from critics; some were moved by the lyrical aspects, while many others praised the album's sonic diversity, especially the heavier parts. Because most members of Thrice settled down and started families during their hiatus, the band decided to be more selective about its touring schedules after reforming so the members could spend more time at home. In 2019 - Sealed Super Mario Bros NES sells for $100K.In 2020 - “Rally” a fractional share company bought the game for $140KIn 2021 - The exact same game sells for $2 million. - Weta Games is a rating company, that will give your collectable games a grade based on condition, and seal the game in hard plastic to preserve it. Theoretically, the higher the “grade” given by the company, the more valuable it will be. These companies take a percentage of the projected value of the game it's rating as a fee. - Heritage Auctions is the auction website where all of the “record breaking” video game sales are taking place. ALL of them. And they charge a 20% buyers premium on every sale. So if you actually bought a game for $1mil, you'd owe the auction house $200K. Plus they taker 5% from the seller. So if these 2 companies were in any way connected, it would be a massive conflict of interest.VGA has been grading games since 2008 and they didn't have this kind of impact on the market. Because they didn't manipulate the market. The ONLY reason Wata had this impact is because of it's games being sold for millions at Heritage Auctions. And Heritage Auctions ONLY sells video games rates by Wata. The Founder of Wata Games is Deniz Kahn- He is quoted in a press release “Wata certified games have been selling at record prices ever since Heritage started selling them”- Deniz appeared on the show ‘Pawn Stars' many times overvaluing the price of his sealed games.- Deniz on multiple occasions (articles, press releases) pumping up the value of SPECIFICALLY Wata rated games. The Founder of Heritage Auctions is Jim Halperin.- Jim is listed on the Wata website as an advisor. And is an investor in the company.- Jim is one of the purchasers of the Sealed SMB game for $100K. Purchased from Heritage Auctions.“So what you have here is the chairman of the auction house buying a game for a record price, and then creating a press release about his own purchase, in which himself, and the president of the grading company are stating that the value of games is going up”- And the press ate it up. Who is buying the games?- The identities of these huge sales are kept secret.- Heritage auctions never tell you who the buyers are, or even if money was exchanged at all. Eric Niaman: Dentist called “worlds most avid video game collector” by articles. He started collecting in 2019. Articles falsely stating that Eric bought the games, but he wasn't using his own money. It was a trust fund. “It's not collectors that are buying any of these games. It's purely people with a lot of money, trying to scam other people out of theirs, by manufacturing a bubble that otherwise shouldn't exist.” It gets deep:- Multiple accounts of shill bidding (fake bids to drive up prices) - Employees confessing to manipulation of the market by posting and buying their own item for higher and higher prices. If there's “sales data” then people will believe it.- Proof of Wata fraud related to the “Carolina Collection” - According to an SCC filing, the purchaser of this collection, who also had the collection rated by Wata and sold much of it through Heritage, is a director at Wata. HUGH conflict of interest. (Jeff Meyer)- Proof of wild inconsistencies in Wata's game ratings. (re-grading) - Jim Halperin involved in the 80s coin bubble. He was found guilty of intentionally mis-rating coins, and was fined $2mil. What can we do?Call for Wata to release a ‘Population Report' to tell us how many of what games they have rated. The Four Horsemen of baseball's Apocalypse reunited once again to bring you more aggravation and grievances. This week's episode offers a newsround chock full of topics, a welcome tip of the cap to Minor Leagues restarting and David sticking to his rant claiming that it's more exciting to be a baseball fan in Queens rather than the Bronx.
In an episode first aired April 26, 2021: DJ Andrew Sandoval spins vinyl singles by The Deep Six, The Cascades, The Losers, Bobby Lile & The El Montes, The Shy Guys, John Dunn, Disillusion '21, Dick & Dee Dee, Solid Gold, The New Generation, Josie Taylor, De Maskers, The Shame, M.P.D. Limited, Wendy & Bonnie, David Kershenbaum, Jennifer Warren, Bobby Darin and Richard Dawson. In the Sunshine spotlight, North Ireland's David McWilliams sings original songs from his three 1967 albums on UK's Major Minor label (as well as some non-LP sides).
"What's Your Major?" The answer is likely to change, maybe even several times, during the first year in college. Dean Coffin invites three professors from Dartmouth to reminisce about how their own academic interests evolved as they found their true calling. Being undecided about what to focus on, they agree, can be a good thing for newly enrolled college students, because it keeps the door open to discovery.
(Hebrew 12:1-2) Major on the major, and minor on the minor It's so easy to focus more on trivial things (e.g how someone badly treated us, what someone is doing wrong e.t.c) at the detriment of vital things (e.g our purpose in life, goals) Decide to stop majoring on the minors. Keep channeling your energy on the most important things in order to really live. As Hebrews 12:1-2 admonishes “As for us, we have all of these great witnesses who encircle us like clouds. So we must let go of every wound that has pierced us and the sin we so easily fall into. Then we will be able to run life's marathon race with passion and determination, for the path has been already marked out before us. We look away from the natural realm and we fasten our gaze onto Jesus who birthed faith within us and who leads us forward into faith's perfection. His example is this: Because his heart was focused on the joy of knowing that you would be his, he endured the agony of the cross and conquered its humiliation, and now sits exalted at the right hand of the throne of God!” Hebrews 12:1-2 TPT Remember keep channeling your energy on the most important things in order to really live. Major in the major; minor on the minor. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/abimbola-arawande/message
J.K. McKee of Messianic Apologetics responds to three categories of questions: Tanach (OT), Apostolic Scriptures (NT), and theology/Biblical Studies. 1. Is it true that references to “the angel of the Lord” in the Tanach (OT) are to YHWH? 2. I have heard that there are references in the Apostolic Scriptures (NT) to “the Jews” that are anti-Semitic? 3. What issues should we legitimately disagree with others about?
This question was sent by Keith, and he writes in response to my letter asking what are his goals and challenges in organ playing. He writes, Vidas, Thank you for sharing your knowledge and love of organ playing. My dream for organ playing is to facilitate the expression of worship in music, with the language of harmony. What things are holding me back from my dream? 1. My ignorance/lack of skill. - In February I dusted off my marginal four years of grade school piano lessons, after 34 years. 2. Realizing what good technique is - what such technique should feel like when I practice and play. 3. Practice method/discipline - What is a minimum of major/minor scales, vs Hanon finger exercises, vs practicing a piece. - I practice about an hour a day, some days twice that. Wish I could practice more. The mini-course emails have been very helpful to me. I let them queue up behind each other, until I have a chance to fully consider each one. Regards, Keith

My guest today is Music Theorist, Organist and Composer, Derek Remeš. He is known for his research into the pedagogy behind Johann Sebastian's Bach method of composition and improvisation. He also is the admin for Facebook group that he started,”Composition and Improvisation in J.S. Bach's Germany”. ----- 0:36 What is your musical background? 2:37 Has anyone in Bach research looked at his craft of improvisation? 4:47 Do all organists have to improvise? 5:47 Did you have a background in improvisation before learning the organ? 6:45 The terminology of thoroughbass 7:49 Would Bach have used the term thoroughbass? 7:58 What do we know of Bach the teacher? Did he have many students and how long did he teach in his career? 10:09 How does thoroughbass relate to Counterpoint and did they talk about Counterpoint much? 15:18 CPE Bach mentioning that JS Bach avoided the “dry” exercises of species counterpoint 16:43 LM 4665, the anonymous manuscript that contained thoroughbass fugues 19:04 How did Bach begin teaching new students? 19:53 Did Bach expect strict counterpoint in thoroughbass? 21:06 How about parallel movement in the middle voices? 22:40 Did he stay with 4 voices or did he eventually shrink down to 3 or 2 voices? 25:17 Was there any instruction in how to write melodies? Like how the Italians practiced Solfeggio. 26:49 The Italian partimenti eventually had no figures, was that the same for Bach? 28:27 Did Heinichen, Niedt and Bach share the same conception of thoroughbass? 31:51 Heinichen updated treatise, after his trip to Italy and the connection to Bach 33:07 What are the differences between Heinichen's first treatise and his later updated version? 39:35 Is Heinichen an innovator? 42:03 After thoroughbass, the student moves on to chorales 43:40 The same melody in chorales but multiple, different basses with figures 45:37 Did they use solfeggio syllables like Do, Re Mi, Fa Sol, La? 49:01 Modes vs Major/Minor 49:35 What temperament are we supposed to play Bach's music in? 50:44 Going from chorales to fugues, when does the study of imitation happen? 53:56 Does being good at thoroughbass prepare you well for fugues? 54:51 Do you find that the study of thoroughbass has helped you in understanding tonal music of other eras? 56:09 What's the best way in your opinion, to learn counterpoint? 57:46 How would you reform music education? 1:02:22 On the modern use of “tonal” as a flippant, pejorative 1:03:43 Wrapping Up
In this episode I give you some amazingly simple techniques to better your understanding of your major & minor scales. This should give you the confidence to write melodies & chord structures more confidently.

After the very British flavours of the Cornetto Trilogy: Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World's End, director Edgar Wright has made a very American heist movie. The artwork had been bought by the Walker Art Centre in Minneapolis but after its installation in their sculpture garden there were protests from the local Native American community who said the work trivialised the hanging of 38 Dakota men by the US Army in 1862 - the largest mass execution in US history. Svetlana Mintcheva, Director of Programmes at the National Coalition Against Censorship, explains why the NCAC believe that this case sets an 'ominous precedent' in the world. The singer and writer Alba Arikha's father was the painter Avigdor Arikha, her mother is the poet Anne Atik and her godfather was Samuel Beckett. STRATEGY DIFFERENCES FOR MAJOR/MINOR POWER FACTOR – 158 Ben talks about some of the USPSA strategy differences that he’s noticed coming from shooters who shoot Major power factor, and those who shoot Minor power factor. Turns out, when accepting advice from another shooter on a certain stage or strategy, you should weigh whether or not they are shooting Major or Minor power factor, because if you’re shooting something different, you may want a different strategy. The News The LA city council has passed a un-enforcable safe storage law for the city. People should store their guns safely, but government shouldn’t mandate it. It’s bad law. A hunter in Indiana’s dog stepped on their shotgun and discharged it into the hunters foot. Dog’s name? Trigger. There’s an interesting new pistol due to hit the market this month. It’s called the Honor Guard, and it looks surprisingly good, coming from a company that we’ve never heard of before. I think it looks like a love child between a S&W Shield and a Caracal. Takes Glock sights, which is genius. Gear That Doesn’t Suck Streamlight ProTac 1L This is the light that Ben’s been running for a while now as part of his EDC, and the light that he’s planning to run in all of the fall/winter night matches that we’ll be shooting. It’s small, but not too small, bright enough, and it’s way cheaper than a lot of the competition. It’s a good piece of gear, whether you’re looking for a basic EDC light, or something to shoot matches with.
A small change to a small federal welfare program may nonetheless be the biggest welfare reform in years. Charles Hughes comments. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
