When disaster strikes, the world watches. Homes crumble, lives are uprooted, and despair takes hold. But in the midst of chaos, there's a sound—a rumble, not of the storm, but of hope arriving. It's the heartbeat of Mercy Chefs, a group of extraordinary volunteers serving meals to those in desperate need.Mercy Chefs was born from a simple yet profound idea: to bring relief not just to the body but to the soul. Founded by Gary LeBlanc, a chef who traded in the glitz of restaurants for the grit of disaster zones, this nonprofit became a lifeline for those who felt forgotten. It started with hot meals, lovingly prepared, but it has grown into something more. Something deeper. Something... significant. In their role as first responders, Mercy Chefs have stood on the frontlines of humanity's greatest challenges—hurricanes, tornadoes, wildfires, and floods. But the story here isn't just the storms; it's how they respond. They don't just cook; they connect. They don't just serve; they soothe. And they don't ask what's in it for them—they only ask, What can we do for you? The secret to their success lies in their core values, values that speak louder than any winds. They believe in dignity, ensuring that every plate served looks as good as it tastes. Because to Mercy Chefs, food isn't just nourishment—it's a message: You matter. They believe in compassion, rolling up their sleeves and working long hours, driven not by obligation but by love. And they believe in service, living a lifestyle of giving, not because they have to, but because they choose to. You see, Mercy Chefs are more than volunteers. They are givers. They don't give what's left over—they give their best. They serve strangers like family. They don't worry about accolades, only outcomes. Because to them, life isn't about taking—it's about giving back.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/success-made-to-last-legends--4302039/support.

Mercy Chefs, a disaster relief and humanitarian aid organization, is serving hot, chef-prepared meals to the victims, volunteers, and first responders of Hurricane Helene, and floodwaters from Hurricane Helene swamped the Southern U.S., with virtually every commodity impacted.
Hurricane Helene Podcast Came ashore around 9 pm on September 26th. Hit the big bend area of Florida and traveled across Florida, Georgia, NW South Carolina, Western North Carolina and East/Central Tennessee Massive devastation and loss of life have occurred. Death toll has exceeded 100 and it is climbing. Whole towns have been destroyed and many large cities have been crippled. Interstate 40 and 26 have had road and bridge washouts. Side highways and other roadways have been destroyed and/or compromised. Charitable organizations are mobilizing to bring much needed food, water and shelter as soon as they can. What can you do? Plenty… It has been said that CASH is KING! And it is if you know who you are donating too. Our choice is Samaritans Purse. They are located in Boone NC and they're area has been hit hard. Money helps get the ball rolling and they also have volunteer needs to go into the areas that are in need. The rebuilding will take many years due to the shear scale of devastation. The Neighbor-to-Neighbor Disaster Relief fund operated through the Eastern Tennessee Foundation will help non-profit organizations across a 25-county region. You can donate here. Plus there is the Salvation Army and others as well. We try to keep the funds in local charities as much as possible and not pay it to a GoFundMe sight as the host takes a large percentage of the proceeds. Samaritanspurse.org is a great place to start, Rhonda and I are looking at schedules to be able to go and volunteer on a build project for Samaritan's Purse as soon as our schedule allows. We have been deep in prayer about what we can do for the long term during the recovery.

Upon its arrival to the United States, Ian was a Category 4 hurricane, just short of a Category 5. The Salvation Army meticulously planned its response, staging canteens and other equipment for immediate dispersal after the storm exited the affected areas. But The Salvation Army couldn't serve at maximum capacity without the generous assistance of its partners. The Walmart Foundation committed $150,000 dedicated to Hurricane Ian relief in support of feeding and hydration efforts. Polaris offroad vehicles were to used to distribute food. As well as Mercy Chefs, PepsiCo, Midwest Food Bank, UPS, FedEx and Delta Airlines which have all been crucial in The Salvation Army's response. Through October 24th, The Salvation Army served over 360,000 meals, drinks and snacks and provided emotional and spiritual care to over 60,000 people. Ashley Koff is a registered dietitian nutritionist and marketing expert who has built a reputation on looking at the food industry from a unique perspective. What started as a service to review products for brands through the eyes of nutrition professional, the program Ashley Koff Approved seeks to provide an assessment of food products that would contribute to a healthy lifestyle. Now, Ashley has expanded her programs to include the Beyond Brands, a nutrition strategy program for food businesses, and Better Nutrition Program, focused on healthcare providers and their patients. When Hurricane Harvey unleashed 30 trillion gallons of rain on Texas last summer, thousands of evacuees and first responders needed to be fed. Restaurants and commercial kitchens were turned into relief operations, and residents hauled their grills to rescue staging grounds. The response was extraordinary. Reporting this episode of Gravy, Barry Yeoman followed two Texans-chef Bryan Caswell and his wife and business partner Jennifer Caswell-as they coordinated a food caravan from their Houston restaurant Reef to the ruined coast. Along the way, he met an immigrant crabber, a military veteran who takes injured warriors fishing, and a volunteer for the Christian ministry Mercy Chefs.

The catastrophic flood devastating Louisiana is now the worst natural disaster to strike the United States since Hurricane Sandy. Tens of thousands of homes damaged; some reports have it as high as 200,000 homes destroyed. In spite of the severe damage and loss of life - the tragedy has not received the attention nationally that it deserves. It did get Chef Gary LeBlanc's attention, as he arrived on the scene with two mobile kitchens, chefs, and a host of volunteers - within hours of the disaster. While most people run from disaster, Chef Gary runs straight into the heart of the disaster. "We got here just as quickly as we could get through the barricades and the roadblocks and the high water and started serving food immediately upon arrival,' said Mercy Chefs founder Gary LeBlanc." LeBlanc founded Mercy Chefs back in 2006, just after Hurricane Katrina. He has been on the scene in communities all over the country ever since. I don't even have the words to tell you just how special I think the man is. But as you know, being short on words is not my typical style. Rest assure, I'll find the words in this special production with Chef Gary. Listen to the program, and then go to the website and get involved. He will tell you on the program how you can help them help all of us. You'll be encouraged and inspired... GARY LEBLANC, Founder and President - he founded Mercy Chefs in 2006 and says he could have never imagined all that God would do through us. OUR MISSION: JUST GO FEED PEOPLE, Mercy Chefs is a faith-based, non-profit disaster relief organization. We exist to serve professionally prepared meals for victims, volunteers and first responders in national emergencies and natural disasters and are committed to using our resources to meet the needs of others. For Further Insight: Mercy Chefs Website: https://mercychefs.com Follow Mercy Chefs on Twitter I began to walk down the line of cars waiting for a meal to talk and pray with folks. I got to the fifth car and had to stop. My spirit was weak. The first car I came to had a family inside, who waded out through the flood waters and borrowed a vehicle just to get to us for a meal. All they were able to salvage from their home was a pile of clothing, which was still wet in the back seat. They were on their way to the laundromat in hopes of changing for the first time in days. In the next car was a lady in her fifties. I asked how she was doing. She burst into tears and said, "I cannot even speak." She just cried and shook as I prayed for her. All she was able to tell me was, "I went through this in Hurricane Katrina ten years ago." As I continued down the line, each car had someone hurting so deeply that tears rolled down their face as I prayed with them. It didn't take long before I broke down and could go no further. We gathered a handful of pastors from the church and had them go down the line, one by one, to pray with each person as they waited for their meal. These are the people we are feeding here in Louisiana. Tired, broken and hurting men, women and children, whose lives have been turned upside down overnight. Everyone is still in survival mode right now. They are just doing their best to hold on and make it through, one day at a time.
