The Missouri House has given final approval to the legislation from State Rep. Brenda Shields (R-St. Joseph) on s 120-34 vote. Ms. Corches says the bill will increase access to safe, affordable and high-quality child care. The state's largest business association wants to see Missouri be a top-ten state in manufacturing. Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Kara Corches tells 939 the Eagle that the Show-Me State currently ranks 28th in manufacturing competitiveness. She says manufacturing in Missouri employs about 287,000 people, contributing $50-billion annually to the state's gross domestic product. The Chamber wants to see that number be higher. The Missouri Chamber Foundation is making seven recommendations. They include expanding the workforce pipeline for manufacturing careers and providing incentives and technical assistance to increase capital investment. "Missouri Times" publisher Scott Faughn joined us live on 939 the Eagle's "Wake Up Missouri", telling listeners that he's optimistic Missouri will see more growth under new Governor Mike Kehoe (R). But Mr. Faughn is candid, saying Republicans have controlled both chambers for 22 years and that Missouri has seen little growth. According to Mr. Faughn, Missouri saw more growth under former Speaker Bob Griffin (D-Cameron) than it did under former Speaker Dean Plocher (R-Des Peres), who left office in January:

Missourians are casting ballots in November on Proposition A, which would increase Missouri's minimum wage in January to $13.75 per hour and would increase it to $15 an hour in 2026. The measure also adjusts the minimum wage based on changes in the Consumer Price Index each January starting in 2027, and it requires all employers to provide one hour of paid sick leave for every thirty hours worked. "Missouri Times" publisher Scott Faughn joined us live on 939 the Eagle's "Wake Up Mid-Missouri" to discuss the November election and Proposition A. While Mr. Faughn doesn't like Proposition A, he predicts it will pass statewide easily. Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Kara Corches, Missouri Restaurant Association head Buddy Lahl and other top business groups have called an 11 am press conference in Jefferson City to urge you to vote against Proposition A. They say it would make eating out and buying groceries more expensive. The Missouri legislature did something this year they haven't done since 1996. That is correct. It has been a quarter of a century since the state of Missouri passed and implemented a fuel tax increase. Senate Bill 262 changed history as it passed both the House and the Senate and Governor Parson is touring the state this week to officially sign the bill into law. The Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry calls this a historic win for our transportation system and economic growth. Fuel tax in Missouri will increase two and a half cents per gallon per year for the next five years – a total of 12.5 cents per gallon. This will allow the state to spend an additional $500 million dollars annually on road and bridge improvements. Projections show with full implementation, this will create 17,000 jobs, increase earnings across the state by $722 million dollars, and have a $1.8 billion-dollar positive impact on our economy. This effort united Democrats, Republicans, business, labor, and

Rebecca (Becky) J. Hatter has been President and CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Missouri (BBBSEMO) for 27 years. In that time, her “Put young people first” leadership has brought about dramatic growth – both in impact and scale – making BBBSEMO the most effective mentoring organization in the State of Missouri and the 6th largest Big Brothers Big Sisters among 267 affiliates across the country. In addition to leading that federation in quality service for seven straight years, BBBSEMO is the only agency ever to be awarded Big Brothers Big Sisters of America's Agency of the Year, Board of the Year, Staff of the Year, and # 1 in Quality Service in the same year. In June 2018, BBBSEMO accepted Large Agency of the Year honors for the second time in a decade.Such development has come through bold initiatives Becky has helmed regionally and nationally. They include ABCToday®, a U.S Department of Education-lauded initiative around student data and community networked interventions in 19 Cape Girardeau and St. Louis schools; Amachi Missouri, a statewide partnership program with other Big Brothers Big Sisters affiliates and the Missouri Department of Corrections that serves children of incarcerated parents; and Big Futures, a program created to support “alumni” Littles through age 25 as they own their future through education, enlistment in military, and/or living-wage employment.Becky's decades-long work has also been widely honored. President Barack Obama named her a 2013 Champion for Change in educating African American children, a distinction underscored by her return to Washington, D.C. when President Obama recognized Big Brothers Big Sisters for its efforts in college preparation, entry, and completion rates. In 2014, Becky accepted the call to join the Ferguson Commission as a Commissioner and appointment to Chair of the Child Well-Being and Education Equity Work Group. A graduate of Leadership St. Louis and Leadership Missouri, and a Governor Matthew Blunt appointee to the Missouri Community Service Commission, Becky has also been honored by the Missouri Chamber of Commerce's Lifetime Achievement Award and was recently a 2019 finalist for MENTOR's Lifetime Achievement Award.   Becky is also a four-time Big Sister who has kept close contact with Little Sister Ivey (matched 20 years ago) and Little Sister Ke'Sheara (25 years).
