If you've decided you want some help getting fit, finding a coach can be a daunting task. In these days with social media, the barrier to entry to becoming an online coach is lower than ever, and potential clients are left spoiled for choice. Too much choice can paradoxically leave us overwhelmed and exhausted, as we develop decision fatigue and unintentionally start tipping the scales towards maximizing instead of “satisficing.” Unfortunately, with so many potential coaches out there, there's no shortage of bad coaches either. Or there may be plenty of “good” coaches that simply aren't a good fit for you and your goals and needs. That's why I'm talking with Jonathan Goodman in this interview all about how to find a coach worth hiring. Jonathan knows a lot about both good and bad trainers because his business is based on making coaches better at what they do. He created the first-ever certification for online fitness trainers, the Online Trainer Academy, which teaches online coaches how to earn more money and better serve their clients. Jonathan has also written several books on the topic, and is a host on the Online Trainer Show, a podcast full of advice for fitness professionals looking to build an online career. While I've built my own online coaching program, there are people for whom my program isn't a good fit. So whether you want to work with my team or not, the information in this podcast can help you think about what you need in a trainer and start the process of finding a good one. In our conversation, Jonathan talks about . . . Different places to look for a trainer (and what matters most in finding one) Trainer certifications and qualifications (what to look for and what to ignore) Red flags to watch out for when hiring a coach When you should fire a coach His new (free) tool for sending training programs to clients And more . . . So, if you want some advice on how to find a good coach for you, and don't mind some marketing, business building, and entrepreneurship tangents along the way, listen to this podcast! Do you feel constant pressure to sell your services?  Are you having a hard time creating content that attracts the right audience? Have you been exerting much effort to book clients, yet they are hard to come by? Are you ready to know how to sell without actually selling? Jonathan Goodman launched the Personal Trainer Development Center in 2011 with the goal of bringing his fellow fitness professionals the information, support, and business guidance they needed but couldn't find anywhere else. He published Ignite the Fire, the first of his 11 books for personal trainers in 2012. He founded the Online Trainer Academy, the first-ever certification for online fitness and nutrition coaches, in 2016. Originally from Toronto, Jon spends his winters traveling the world with his wife Alison and son Calvin. They've lived in 10 countries, including Mexico, Costa Rica, Uruguay, Thailand, Greece, and Montenegro. In this episode, Jonathan shares with us how he finds success in his fitness business by going against what everybody is doing by not actually selling. His' lead by example' kind of leadership and business mindset helps him tap into his resourcefulness and bring about his creativity in its true sense and attract the right clients for him. He also talks about the one thing that would truly scale your business, not so much about paid marketing or advertising but something like going deeper, connecting, and building relationships that span a lifetime. The key is not to do what everybody else is doing a little bit better than them. It's to figure out what everybody should be doing but isn't. And then you don't even need to do it that well. It's 2022 and Kinsei-Do Corner is back with a bang! I've had the distinct pleasure of having some amazing guests on this show in 2021, some of the best fitness professionals from all over Indonesia who are also wonderful human beings, but this episode's guest plays in a different league. Jonathan Goodman is - among many other things - the creator of the world's best certification program for Online Trainers, the Online Trainer Academy - and I'm not just saying that because I'm a proud graduate, but because it's true. In this episode I got to learn about his incredible journey to the top echelons of the fitness industry, from his early days as a (very busy and sought after) personal trainer to creating the Personal Trainer Development Center (theptdc.com), which in turn led to establishing Online Training, creating the certification, authoring several books and, right now, building a training software platform. And mind you, he's still only in his mid 30s! We spoke about the mindset and habits that have enabled him to be so overwhelmingly productive, and keep redefining his "career path" and living the life he wants. It doesn't matter whether you know Jonathan or not, or whether you are in the fitness industry, there's definitely something for everybody to take away from this great conversation, and inspire you to think big and chase ambitious dreams in 2022 - in a smart way! I hope you enjoy the episode, and please leave feedback and comments on Instagram at @kinsei_do. Best, Coach Jo Who is Jonathan Goodman? Jonathan Goodman is bringing the fitness industry together. Jay Kali, AKA The Strength Architect, doesn't just build better bodies; he helps build strong, motivated and empowered women. Now he's taken the information he gleaned and using it to revolutionize not only his approach to fitness training, but gym culture in its entirety. Launching into the technological era, Jay exported his expertise to the cloud. He has spent the last three years honing and growing his online coaching system. As a coach and fitness specialist for over five years, Jay has heard every excuse in the book: clients are too busy, too tired, or just too demoralized to achieve their dream body. At Kali Coaching, he's finally found a way to put power back in his client's' hands. Through training sessions, motivational talks, and regular check-ins, he's found a way to work outside the confines of time and space. Jay's innovative online approach is based on the radical notion that we are all different. Knowing there's no “one-size-fits-all” answer to fitness, Jay meets each client where they're at, providing highly personalized training solutions to help each woman meet her individual goals. As a graduate of the Online Trainer Academy, a Certified Fitness Trainer, a Specialist in Strength and Conditioning, and a Power Yoga Trainer holding his certification in Training for Warriors, it's obvious that Jay has the know-how to get the job done. But his heart is the true driving force behind his business. He is motivated by a genuine desire to help others take charge of their lives, becoming physically, mentally, and emotionally stronger. He strives to lead by example, demonstrating that when we tap into our own potential, there is nothing we cannot achieve! www.kalicoaching.com www.fb.com/coachkali www.fb.com/thekalicoaching www.twitter.com/kalicoaching www.instagram.com/kalicoaching Books mentioned: The Happiness Advantage You Too Can Be Prosperous Mind Game The Obstacle Is The Way The Magic Of Thinking Big Boundaries
