In this 2 part Special Halloween episode I thought it would be fun and informative for you to have a chat with world re-renowned Witch and Bestselling author of Botanical Magic, Amy Blackthorn. Her struggles to heal after being hit by a Simi Truck and using Witchcraft as an aid to healing in itself is an amazing story of strength and self-empowerment. Blackthorn has written 3 books and is about to release a 4th in the spring of next year (2022). We talk about her 3 books in this 2 part series. Her latest books are Blackthorn's Botanical Brews, Sacred Smoke, and Blackthorn's Botanical Magic. We are thrilled that Benebell Wen is one of our headliners for StaarCon 2021. In our conversation for this StaarCast episode, we discuss her books, her art, and her passion for all things mystical. Benebell will be presenting two workshops at StaarCon 2021. We discussed only one of them and left the other a surprise. The workshop we discussed is a topic you don't often hear about at a tarot conference. We are sure it will give you some food for thought. -- Benebell Wen is the author of Holistic Tarot: An Integrative Approach to Using Tarot for Personal Growth, which was shortlisted for the Eric Hoffer Award, and The Tao of Craft: Fu Talismans and Casting Sigils in the Eastern Esoteric Traditions, both published by North Atlantic Books (2015 and 2016 respectively). She is also the creator of the Spirit Keeper's Tarot, which won the Judges Choice Award for Best Tarot Deck from the 2019 International Tarot Foundation CARTA Awards and Best Author of a Tarot Deck. Wen has presented at the Bay Area Theosophical Society, San Francisco Bay Area Tarot Symposium, Stanford University, UC Berkeley, PantheaCon, Readers Studio, the UK Tarot Conference in London, and the Masters of the Tarot Conference at the Omega Institute. Reading tarot for others has always been her first passion. When not immersed in metaphysical studies, Wen is a practicing attorney licensed in California and New York. I've known Debra probably before I even moved to California nearly ten years ago through my epxeriences at PantheaCon. She's been a tireless advocate and promoter of my writing, and I feel like I would not have gotten to where I'm at today without her. Anyways, Debra is really great, and a super talented writer. Before writing books for the likes of Llewellyn she worked in journalism for years, eventually becoming the editor of her local paper. I'll admit that I don't know much about horses, so I'm really excited to be talking to Deborah about them. In this episode of the podcast we'll be discussing her book, her practice, and the joys that were those absinthe parties at Pantheacon so long ago. I think this also might be Deborah's first Pagan-related podcast, so that should be fun! I might try and put her on the spot and make her say something embarassing about another author, or Llewellyn's book process! Nah, I won't do that, probably.
POST-CHRISTIAN America will not be a Star Trek future of science and reason, free from the “superstition” of religion. It will be a return to the old gods—and it’s already happening. Carl Teichrib, author of Game of Gods, joins us with an update on this year’s PantheaCon, America’s largest annual pagan conference. Although the 2020 conference was its last, Carl tells us that the demise of PantheaCon by no means signals that the interest in witchcraft and paganism is waning. On the contrary, it’s going mainstream. Download our free mobile app! Links to the iTunes App Store and Google Play are posted at www.vftb.net. Hello and thank you once again for joining us down at the crossroads for some music, magick, and Paganism. Where witches gather for the sabbath, offerings are made, pacts are signed for musical fame and we cross paths with today’s most influential Pagans, occultists, and deep thinkers. I am your bewitching, bald headed, host Chris Orapello and tonight Tara and I welcome blogger, teacher, and now author Mat Auryn back to the show to discuss his new book, Psychic Witch: A Metaphysical Guide to Meditation, Magick, and Manifestation. During the episode we talk about his recent participation at PantheaCon and being a presenter as well as workshop etiquette and being an attendee. His experiences on being a professional witch in Salem, Massachusetts during the month of October. Some tips and tricks on how to keep oneself from psychically burning out as well as his thoughts on extra sensory perception, the spirit of place, and more. Chronologically, this conversation occurred at two different times, but we'll get into that later. This was a fun and unexpected chat and we hope that you enjoy it. This is the conclusion of our short series of interviews regarding Pantheacon. Each previous episode featured an interview asking about their experiences at PCon and their feelings regarding the conclusion of the convention. Glenn Turner co-founded the New Reformed Orthodox of the Golden Dawn (N.R.O.O.G.D.) tradition. With N.R.O.O.G.D. she helped to co-found the Covenant of the Goddess (CoG). She organized the Ancient Ways Festival for many years. Until she retired this January, she also owned the Ancient Ways metaphysical shop in Oakland for over 31 years. Glenn organized the now-concluded PantheaCon Pagan conference. Glenn discussed her life and the many ways she was instrumental in helping to create community and spaces for Pagans. We are grateful to have the opportunity to hear her first-hand accounts.

This is a continuation of our short series of interviews regarding Pantheacon. Each episode features an interview asking about experiences at PCon and feelings regarding the conclusion of the convention. In this episode, the Ravens interviewed Paula (ButterflyMoon) and Jay (Runesmal) onsite at PantheaCon. ButterflyMoon spent years exploring her own beliefs; trusting science and her own intuition, “Atheopagan with Woo” is the best way to describe her current pathway. Often found with a hammer or torch in her hand, bending metal to her will, she is no polite little butterfly. She uses these skills to make spiritually unique jewelry for any path that does not preach hate. Preach hate and she will likely run you down. You can identify her by the butterfly tattooed rubber butt on her mobility device. ButterflyMoon is also the alter ego of Paula Meier, a down-to-earth Tarot reader and teacher with more than 40 years’ experience using the cards. A Psychic Sensitive, artist, and ordained spiritual advisor, Paula shares her empathic and intuitive insights with friends and clients. Using a personal approach to both reading and teaching the Tarot, she uses the cards as spiritual signposts to help us make choices on the path of life. Jay started exploring Wicca and light work around age 24, but found it was not a good fit. Upon discovering the Runes and being spoken by the Vanir, he became a Freyasmannr, before subsequently being claimed by Freya’s father, Njord, whose direction he now primarily serves. Jay says of his current path, “I am not a gothi (priest) nor a spokesman for Norse religion. I weave spells, tell stories, and try to make as little mischief as possible.”

PC righteousness or just being self-important Negative Nancys? You decide! The Fabulous Steve joins us for this week’s woo to share about his awakening intuition. Hello and thank you once again for joining us down at the crossroads for some music, magick, and Paganism. Where witches gather for the sabbath, offerings are made, pacts are signed for musical fame and we cross paths with today’s most influential Pagans, occultists, and deep thinkers. I am your bewitching, bald headed, host Chris Orapello and tonight Tara and I meet with Jason Mankey to learn about his book Transformative Witchcraft: The Greater Mysteries available from Llewellyn. And along with that we discuss his Pagan witchcraft journey and what caused him to move away from his Christian background, his early Goddess practices and experiences as a witch, his thoughts on witchcraft and how it has changed over the years, the modern origins of witchcraft, inclusivity in Traditional Wicca, the future of modern craft, and more. Jason was a great guest and this conversation has great anecdotes and personal stories as well. “The rites and rituals of Witchcraft are life-changing experiences, but they are also steeped in mystery. Transformative Witchcraft delves into some of the most persistent mysteries of the Craft and provides insightful guidance for raising and directing magickal energy in accordance with your desires. Jason Mankey distills his decades of experience as he shares practical wisdom for raising a cone of power and detailed insights into creating powerful rituals for dedications, initiations, and elevations. In his chapter on drawing down the moon, he provides a vivid exploration of invocation and the subtle nuances in preparation and execution that can take the ritual to its most magisterial heights. This book also discusses one of the most mysterious of all the magickal rituals―the Great Rite. Whether you’re interested in the Great Rite in token or in truth, there is much to be gleaned from the experiences related here on a topic that is frequently treated as taboo in much of the magickal literature.” “Direct experience with the divine and the potent energies of magick are defining experiences in a life of Witchcraft. Filled with compelling personal stories, a fascinating brief history of modern Wicca and Witchcraft, striking original rituals, and a wealth of tips and techniques, this book provides the beginning or intermediate Witch with the practical and theoretical keys they need to unlock the mysteries of the Craft.” - Transformative Witchcraft (back cover) Featured Music: “The Golden King” by Witchwood “Hymn to Herne” by S.J. Rose Red hosted a wonderful Podcasting 101 class during PantheaCon 2019. She invited Jaymi and Michael along to discuss what it takes to put together Tarot Visions Podcast. We did a live recording of the class using some cool new technology Michael brought with him. Please note this class was 90 minutes long, so the recording is a bit longer than what you are used to.“Hello, listeners. Michael Charboneau here with a bonus podcast recording tip: When you are using recording equipment, whether it's a laptop, your phone, or a stand-alone digital recorder, remember to make sure it's fully charged or plugged in, or to have fresh batteries nearby. Unfortunately, my digital recorder's batteries died at this point in the recording. We will have the rest of the audio programs listed in the show notes, and we pick up recording when we are talking zoom.us and recording a session online.”

The Hermetic Hour for Thursday the 23rd of February, 2012 will present a report by host Poke Runyon on the recent PantheaCon convention in San Jose, California (from the17th through the 20th of this month). This gathering of NeoPagan tribes, magical lodges and Wiccan covens was attended by 2000 colorful characters with nearly a hundred events, lectures, ritual presentations, and handcrafted treasures for collectors of the exotic. We attended as part of the Feraferian entourage and helped Feraferia's leader Jo Carson to present an enchanted Oimelc rite that featured talented dancers, musicians and an experienced cast of ritualists. Lady Jo will be calling in discuss this event with us and her upcoming book on Feraferia. We also attended lectures and classes given by our friends Chic and Tabatha Cicero, and Lon Milo DuQuette. We touched base with Ed Fitch who was promoting his forthcoming book Pirate Magic -- or is Pyrate Magick? (Arrgh!) A great time was had by all -- so tune in and we'll share the magick with you.
The Hermetic Hour for December 29th, 2011, with host Poke Runyon, will feature a wrap-up of the years' shows, highlighting some of our best that you might want to listen to again. We will also venture a preview of some special shows coming up next year. Topics will include Carl Jung and his influence on modern magick, the science fiction philosopher-mystic Philip K. Dick and his Gnostic visionary writings, the PantheaCon event in San Jose with Feraferia and Jo Carson, J.R.R. Tolkien and the recovery of western folklore, to name a few -- and Frater Limbeck has suggested Jack Parsons, and Julius Evola -- both fascinating subjects. We will also discuss the next year's Associate Member course, which will include our Pathworkings, so be sure and tune in for what's coming up in 2012 (before Planet X in December).
