Enjoy this special presentation from the first ever Whinypaluza Ultimate Marriage & Parenting Summit! Laura Froyen received her PhD in Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS) with an emphasis in Couple and Family Therapy from Michigan State University in 2014. While pursuing her doctorate she worked as a Couple and Family Therapist in the state of Michigan helping families navigate difficult times. Her research focused on how marital and family relationships influence parenting and child development. She continued this research at the University of Wisconsin-Madison as an Assistant Professor of HDFS and UW-Extension as an Early Childhood and Parenting Specialist. She helps individuals, partners, and co-parents become the parents they are longing to be. She helps overwhelmed and disconnected parents reconnect with themselves, each other, and their children. She helps parents bring ease, calm and JOY back into their hectic and chaotic lives. She helps parents stop yelling and start feeling confident in themselves. She does this through her unique approach to parenting that is grounded in research and driven by the overarching goal of restoring balance and compassion to families.   Listen to this insightful Whinypaluza episode with Laura Froyen about how everyday life gives us moments to shine light on our wounds that still need healing, creating opportunities for repair and growth. Here is what to expect on this week's show: There is no such thing as perfection, only “good enough.” There is a cycle of mistake/repair that creates growth. Acknowledge your triggers, and use them for growth, until they are no longer triggers. What are the different kinds of triggers? Repeating behavioral patterns is a way of your brain creating structure, efficiency, and making sense of things. Rules that you had as a child can become triggers for you as a parent if your children do things that would have been breaking those rules. It creates a sense of something being wrong. Addressing your triggers and healing yourself is about understanding we are all deserving of love and compassion. Awareness is the first step. Building in self-regulation is the second step. Learning mindfulness and breathwork is vastly beneficial in healing.   Connect with Laura: Website https://www.laurafroyen.com/ Facebook https://www.facebook.com/laurafroyen/ Follow Rebecca Greene Blog  https://www.whinypaluza.com/ Book 1  https://bit.ly/WhinypaluzaBook Book 2 https://bit.ly/whinybook2 Facebook  https://www.facebook.com/whinypaluzaparenting Instagram https://www.instagram.com/becgreene5/ @becgreene5 TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@whinypaluzamom?lang=en @whinypaluzamom Learn more about your ad choices. Here is what to expect on this week's show: Structure is still important in summertime. Don't overschedule, but keep structure in place. Know how to handle boredom. Kids need stimulation, and often resort to negative ways if not guided. Variations in everyday activities will keep things interesting. Set a challenge or direction for activities. Counteracting fights and arguments amongst siblings- give them an outlet to discuss their feelings in a “yuck dump,” and give them a plan to address it. Making time for personal care and personal time needs to be part of your structure. Predictability means less pushback. Consistency is your best tool. It is ok to break routine on occasion, but make sure to keep consistent most of the time. Tips on surviving family vacations- set realistic expectations, think about what your child needs to feel and behave their best when away from home. Tips for working through your child's big emotions. Regulation is key. Strengthen their neural pathways by encouraging them to be more flexible in their thinking. Using Fortunately/ Unfortunately scenarios in storytelling to help the build flexible thinking. What can you do NOW to help make a smoother back to school transition? Do you have a child with big feelings and you're not sure what to do about it? Do you even struggle with controlling your own big emotions? Interestingly, many of us were not taught how to become more self-aware, understand our own feelings, or how to prevent our emotions from controlling us.  And many times, parents are actually afraid of their child's big emotions. But this only makes things worse as they tip toe around their child or avoid addressing emotions altogether.  It is best to understand why your child is feeling the way they are and then normalize their feelings. Because they ARE normal! We don't want to let our kids feel isolated just because their feelings are sometimes stronger than others. Today, Rachel Bailey and I are discussing big emotions, how to identify if your child has big feelings, and steps on how to turn your family dynamic around and happily coexist once again. Rachel Bailey is a Parenting Specialist who has been serving families for more than 12 years. Even if you're married, it's still really important for all of us to understand divorce, which is why we wanted to have today's special guest join us to share her expertise on this subject. Michelle Dempsey is a Certified Divorce and Co-Parenting Specialist and host of the podcast, Moms Moving On, which is also the title of her brand new book (that happens to be launching tomorrow, March 15th, 2022, if you're listening to this episode in real-time)! Michelle is the go-to divorce guru on Instagram, and today she reveals tangible and actionable advice for women who are thinking of separating, are in the midst of the process, or are a friend who is supporting someone going through divorce right now. As women, we all have to get comfortable in setting boundaries and comfortable with the idea that we're going to have people mad at us at times, but as Michelle says, this process doesn't have to be intimidating. We as women always find a way to make it work, and in the end, divorce can be the best thing for not only you and your spouse, but for your children as well. MEET Michelle: https://www.instagram.com/themichelledempsey/ 10% off at BETTERHELP: http://betterhelp.com/herself$20 off your first purchase at ROTHY'S: http://rothys.com/herselfLinks & Resources:Michelle's Website & InstagramHer Podcast & Episode, How to Leave Your Marriage When You Are a Stay-at-Home Mom and Worried About Your Financial FutureMichelle's New Book, Moms Moving On: Real-Life Advice on Conquering Divorce, Co-Parenting Through Conflict, and Becoming Your Best SelfHer Parents Magazine Article, The Term 'Disneyland Parent' is Trending, and We All Know a Mom or Dad Who is Guilty of ThisJoin us in the 4-Week HERself Podcast Investing in YOU Challenge by clicking HERE! HERSELF SHOP: https://herself-podcast-favorites.myshopify.com HERSELF PATREON: https://www.patreon.com/herselfpodcast HERSELF INSTAGRAM: http://instagram.com/herselfpodcast MEET AMY: http://instagram.com/ameskiefer MEET ABBY: http://instagram.com/abbyrosegreen
