I have worked for a few startup companies, including SQL Server Central. Each has been a different experience, and I learned a lot at each stop. However, I'm not sure I'd want to go through that process again at my age. I was thinking about the challenges and the excitement of being at a startup while reading about the founding of Reddit. The post doesn't go a lot into the technical details or the working life, but it is an interesting read from a VC investor. I also found this post on Choosing Startup Life, which talks about what the author thinks about before trying to start a company. He compares this with life in a Big Tech company, which relates to lots of companies, in technology or not. The main differences are lower salaries, less infrastructure, lots of work, and upside in a startup. Big companies have higher salaries and more perks, less stress and responsibility, and not a lot of context-switching. In general, that's been true in my experience, though in bigger companies that didn't think they were software companies, I sometimes could end up with a lot of context-switching. In this episode of the Off-Road Racer Podcast, I sit down with off-road vehicle fabricator and designer Morgan Clark. Morgan stands out in the fabrication scene because of his dedication to a supercar level of design finish work in his vehicles, stemming from his ‘form follows function' philosophy. We talk about how he came to embody this philosophy, originally studying design, working through the fabrication industry, and eventually starting his own business. Morgan and I then dive into the importance of aesthetics in a vehicle, often seen in street cars, but often lost in off-road builds. Morgan then gives us some insight into his design process, and where he gets his inspiration. We also discuss how the art of design has progressed into the modern era, with computers taking over most of the design process, and lowering the barrier of entry for new designers and fabricators. Looking forward, Morgan talks about his future plans and builds, including a mid-engine, AWD Prerunner. I'm your host Matt Martelli, and this IS the Off-Road Racer Podcast.
Unpacking our past is not an easy task. It requires courage and strength. It's like opening a box that's been locked away for years. Inside, you might find things that are painful, things that you've tried to forget. But remember, it's okay to feel. It's okay to hurt. This is a part of the healing process. Have you ever met someone and within minutes you feel energetically connected to them? Not in a romantic way but in a the sense of relatable life experience. This person you know nothing about but you can just tell from the way they carry themselves and the way they speak about life that you know on a deep emotional level what they have been through in life and you feel this sense of familiarity. They just get it and you really see them and know the battles they've fought. This is exactly how I felt meeting Tava who is my guest for this episode. Tava and I were introduced through a mutual friend and it took us just one round of cocktails at her lovely home to realize we had some shared life experiences and were meant to cross paths. In our sit down together, she so courageously opens her heart and tells her story about how the man she fell hard and fast in love with, turned out to be a life altering experience. Make sure you listen all the way till the end because that cliff hanger will leave you coming back for more next week on part two.I want to also give you all a fun little business update on what I've been working on over here since going Entrepenuer full time!I have rebranded myself as Self-Empowerment Coach and oh boy does this feel so freaking good guys! You may have noticed in some of my past episodes I referred to myself as the breakup coach and for those of you that have ever had a side hustle, ran your own business or work in marketing- you know how tough it can be to brand yourself! Breakup coach was something that my business coaches and I had landed on back in the summer last year when I first launched my coaching business and although it was catchy and direct - there was always something that didn't quite sit right for me. And when I think about what my ideal clients look like and by that I actually mean - what they feel and desire from a guidance perspective - it's a combination of education and support. Education and support are the two main components of empowerment. So let me break down for you guys what I do: I coach people who have experienced a track record of unhealthy relationships (work/family/romantic) in their lives and have hit a breaking point where they want better for themselves. They desire to prioritize self-growth and establish a relationship with themselves that will stand the test of time. They need to deeply root themselves in who they are- morals, values, and beliefs. My coaching practice focuses on 3 main developmental areas: self-fulfillment, self-love, and self-confidence. A beautiful trio that when focused on thoughtfully with professional guidance will lead you to the most EMPOWERED version of yourself. I like to call this your “You Era”. Word of mouth is so incredibly powerful my friends so If I can ask you right now listener on the other end - who do you know in your life that could benefit from my coaching services? A friend?
