On this week's RIPEcast our close friend and PInk Mammoth resident DJ Jonathan Will with a live set poolside from Birds of a Feather 2024. From Jonathan, "This mix comes from closing out the pool party at the famed Birds of A Feather event on Saturday. There was so many things I liked about this party, different crews that don't always get to play or be together because they do separate events, friends I hadn't seen in years, bird puns (upon puns) for days, and great peeps. Special thanks to all the organizers that put it on and was honored to be amongst a killer set of djs with eclectic sounds. It was one for the bird books. Hope you enjoy." ✘ Tara Brooks (Los Angeles / USA) https://soundcloud.com/tarabrooksmusic https://www.facebook.com/tarabrooksofficial http://www.tarabrooksmusic.com/ https://www.instagram.com/tarabrooksmusic/ Download for free on The Artist Union

This week's RIPEcast features a tag set from Pink Mammoth residents Jonathan Will and Gravity, live from Breakfast of Champions 2014. Here's what they have to say: "We are both super excited to have closed out our 4th Breakfast of Champions together. Rob Garza had just hoped of the decks, taking us an eclectic journey. We aimed to keep the feeling going strong with bits of funk, glazed with some grit; ending on a high, sedimental note. We hope you enjoy the mix and look forward to what 2014 will bring!" - Jonathan Will & Gravity (pinkmammoth.org) About Jonathan Will: Jonathan Will is a resident DJ, podcast boss, and impresario for San Francisco’s legendary house crew Pink Mammoth, as well as an up-and-coming producer for Loöq Records. He loves to make people FEAL on the dance floors by taking them through a journey inward of beauty and emotion, as well as provoking momentous booty-shaking extroversion. His style is eclectic, expressive and dance floor-centric. His sets convey a full range of house music including full-body notes of tech, deep house; seductive aromas of electro-pop, underground jazz and intrigue; and including a well balanced, lingering finish of funk and lure. He has played alongside the likes of Lee Burridge, BLOND:ISH, Jimpster, Art Department, Soul Clap, Justin Martin, DJ T, Worthy, Marques Wyatt, Fred Everything, Spirit Catcher, Audiofly (Luca Saporito), M.A.N.D.Y. (Philip Jung) Miguel Migs and The Martinez Brothers. He has performed at almost every notable club, festival and underground in the SF- Bay area including: Monarch, Mighty, The ENDUP, Supperclub, Triple Crown, Ruby Sky, Wish, Temple, Anu, Public Works, The Phoenix Hotel, Monroe, How Weird, Lovefest, Superhero St Fair, Decompression, Body & Soul, Robot Heart; and around the world in Miami (WMC), Minneapolis, Denver, Los Angeles, Seattle, Amsterdam, Japan and Mexico, as well as the much loved, annual Pink Mammoth parties at BRC, Burning Man. Currently, he has been busy in the studios with production. In 2012 he did a remix for AND()'s “Akuma H23” on Looq records. The release was well received and even peaked to #35 in its category on Beatport. Then he followed with a strong, lush summer deep house remix of Momu's “ComingUp” which got re-released on Loöq's Best 12 of 2012. He latest remix of Momu’s “Rising” which debued on Pink Mammoth's Sunrise set on Robot Heart is already getting much DJ support and praise. http://soundcloud.com/jonathan-w http://facebook.com/Jonathan.Will.dj About Gravity: The Chicago area music scene provided the perfect backdrop for the early days of Rob Adelmann’s (aka DJ Gravity) funky, eclectic influences. Yet despite growing up in the birthplace of house music, Rob’s first real exposure to the genre came in 1997, while living in London. The thriving underground scene of UK’s capital sucked him in and left a lasting impression. In 1999, while living in Colorado, Rob bought turntables and began teaching himself the art of mixing, recalling advice he picked up from friends in London. Within 6 months he found himself playing bars and clubs in Colorado. While living in Boulder, Rob had the good fortune of meeting future Pink Mammoth cofounder Ryel K, who invited him to camp and DJ at Pink Mammoth during Burning Man 2005. The Burning Man culture and his experience DJing there had such a profound effect that he was inspired to move to San Francisco shortly after. Once in SF, Rob quickly became an integral part of Pink Mammoth’s foundation. Over the last six years Rob has DJed every Pink Mammoth event in venues all over SF, as well as parties throughout North America, including Los Angeles, New York, Miami, Denver and Calgary. In addition to playing headlining sets, Rob has had the opportunity to share the decks with Lee Burridge, Marques Wyatt, Collette, Jimpster, Spirit Catcher, Justin Martin, Random Soul, Hed Kandi, Miguel Migs, AstroGlyde, DJ T and The Martinez Brothers. Although rooted in funky and deep house, Rob’s sound is not easily defined. Whether playing an uplifting daytime party, epic sunset/sunrise set, or a peak time nightclub slot, his main source of inspiration comes from the dancefloor. Rather than sticking to a plan or sub-genre of house, Rob’s sets are based on reading the crowd and creating an irresistible vibe and unforgettable experience. http://www.pinkmammoth.org/participants/gravity/#sthash.QxSRQjM4.dpuf

This week it is our great pleasure to welcome to The Armory the venerable, house-music legend DJ Brad Robinson of the Space Cowboys. With nearly 20 years under his belt, Brad's vast DJ experience has taken him from his humble beginnings at Vanderbilt University to San Francisco to Black Rock City and even as far as Thailand and South Korea. The flawless mix you're about to hear was recorded live earlier this month from Pink Mammoth's 10-Year Anniversary party at Mighty in San Francisco. Press play. Get down. Brad Robinson started playing house music on the airwaves of Vanderbilt radio station WRVU, Nashville in 1994. Warehouse parties were prominent in the midwest and southeast during those years, providing Brad exposure to some of the best DJs and some of the best crowds that the scene had to offer. Influenced by DJs and producers like Mark Grant, Mark Farina, DJ Dan, the Chicago Teamsters, the Hardkiss Brothers, and DJ Sneak, Brad continued to develop his style of house music that would have a lasting effect on him and his fans.  Playing parties and events from New Orleans to Chicago, Brad quickly discovered that his house music could bring people together.  With a rare opportunity, Brad travelled to San Francisco to intern with the infamous Hardkiss Records label.  The experience would forever change his view of electronic music and it was the eclectic vibe of the San Francisco music scene which drew him back in 1998 where he interned for OM Records and began to call SF his home. In 2000, Brad joined the Space Cowboys collective and journeyed to his first of many Burning Man festivals in the Nevada desert.  In the desert of Black Rock City and the streets of San Francisco Brad continued to share his love of house music with his 8+ year monthly residency at Vision and honed his trademark sound: a little funk, a lot of groove, some classic house sounds, some sneak-up-on-ya latin vibes, but always infused with soul and organic elements.  For Brad, playing house music is about connecting with the mood and celebration of the community he is with.  Brad can be found playing at some of San Francisco's iconic annual events including the Space Cowboy annual New Years Day Breakfast of Champions, as well as clubs and parties in the Bay Area.   You can follow Brad's music on his podcast djbradrobinson.podomatic.com. "Ghost Ship continues to amaze me how some Burning Man crews can come together and throw an absolutely enormous party that still feels like a community event, not to mention the lights, sound, art, DJs, and everyone in costume.  It feels to me to be the closest thing to BRC in SF.  This year I played with the Pink Mammoth crew in their swanky lair and what a treat it was.  Secluded in a back corner it felt like an underground party within a party.  They did an amazing job with decor and vibe. It left me little choice but to blow it all out.  Enjoy." - rrrus One last reminder, Boys and Girls, that Breakfast of Champions will be returning to Utah Street & Mighty this coming Sunday, January 1st! For this latest Pink Mammoth Podcast episode, we are excited to feature a live mix-straight from Lighting in a Bottle- from our friend, and co-owner of pocket underground, Sammy Bliss. Catch him live with our own Pink Mammoth resident, Gravity at Public Works-This Saturday, 22nd for Do LaB's Woggie Nights. http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=257926920911594   ABOUT SAMMY BLISS: Sammy grew up in and around New England, finally landing on the East end of Long Island. Addicted to music at a very young age Sammy was a skilled mix-tape DJ, but it wasn't until he found himself in LA that the door opened for him to House music and the scene that went with it. Sammy was introduced to Jesse Wright through a mutual friend in 2002 and that was pretty much the beginning of the end. Together Sammy and Jesse formed Pocket Underground and starting throwing parties in a warehouse location right in the center of Hollywood. Shortly thereafter Sammy took a credit card to Guitar Center and bought his first pair of Technique 1200's. Since then Sammy has made asses shake all over the West coast, from San Fran to Mexico. He's had the immense honor of playing every year at Coachella since 2007, his crew Pocket Underground held a monthly residency at the mega-club Spundae LA from 2005-2007, and Sammy and Jesse run the Woogie Stage at the annual green festival Lightning in a Bottle where they've booked talent ranging from Lee Burridge, to Sandra Collins, John Tejada, Claude VonStroke, Nick Warren, Jay Tripwire and many more. He's played several times at the SF LoveFest Parade (So fun!!), Avalon Hollywood, Burning Man, Elysium Festival, Fuente Eterno, and more underground parties than you can shake a stick at. Having recently moved to the San Francisco East Bay area, 2011 is looking better than ever. With gigs at Coachella, The Alchemy Festival and Lightning in a Bottle in the immediate future, Sammy will be branching into the SF scene and is working out the details for a gig in Santa Fe this summer. Sammy's deep connection to the dirty, chuggy 4/4 always keeps the crowd riding his wave of delicious tech house and chunky techno right into the dawn. He loves connecting to each and every person on the dance floor as they journey together down the rabbit hole of funky beats.

We've been long overdue for a RIPEcast from one of our all-time favorite Burning Man camps, the legendary Pink Mammoth. On the 1s and 2s this week is Pink Mammoth resident, JDubYa (a.k.a. Jonathan Will), dropping an array of uplifting house grooves to remind us all that summer has arrived and Burning Man is only just around the corner. "For this RIPEcast mix I wanted to create a sound that reflected the summer vibe", says JDubYa, "a time where extremes can not only exist side by side, they are encouraged, even celebrated, for giving to the whole experience- like high-energy nights mixed with moments of beach-side recovery; driving bass-lines are laced with snippets of smooth nostalgic vocals, horns or keys... new tech is injected with hard ol' funk, then put in a blender, mixed and served up cool with a sultry cayenne twist. We hope you savor this laid-back, spicy juxtaposition of new and old-school summer-inspired sounds. May your summer have the best of all previous summers, and yet unlike anything ever before. Enjoy!" You can catch JDubYa and the rest of the Pink Mammoth crew this coming Saturday, June 18th at Mighty in San Francisco for their official camp fundraiser. Our very own, Zach Moore, is also on the bill to help Pink Mammoth get back to the playa this year. Discounted pre-sale tickets are available right now at http://pinkmammoth.eventbrite.com. For more details on the party visit www.pinkmammoth.org. Pink Mammoth also has a Facebook page set up for the event which you can visit with this link: http://on.fb.me/pinkmammoth-6-18-fundy. A little more background on this week's guest....... Jonathan Will (a.k.a. JDubYa) is a resident DJ and impresario for San Francisco’s legendary house crew Pink Mammoth. He loves to rock dance floors by taking people through a journey of momentous booty shaking extroversion. His style is eclectic, expressive and dance floor-centric; his sets convey a full range of house music including full-body notes of tech, deep house; aromas of electro-pop and jazz, and a well balanced, lingering finish of funk and dub. He has played alongside the likes of Lee Burridge, Miguel Migs, Jimpster, Justin Martin, DJ T., Worthy, Marques Wyatt, Spirit Catcher, and The Martinez Brothers. He is also one half of the production duo "Thick as Thieves" with his production partner Ray Kang (Yoshitoshi).  He has performed at almost every club in San Francisco including: Mighty, The ENDUP, Supperclub, Triple Crown, Wish, Temple, Anu, and around the world at The Winter Music Conference (WMC) Miami, Japan, Amsterdam, Minneapolis, Denver, Los Angeles, and at the annual epic Pink Mammoth parties at Burning Man. www.pinkmammoth.org RIPEcast artwork courtesy of Jem Panufnik (www.jemapanufnik.com)

This is a mix of the essential disco-funk cuts that inspired Spirt Catcher, and hundreds of other house and techno producers alike. The song structures are free and fun...typical of late 70's and early 80s ... yet many sound like they could have been produced yesterday. Here is Spirit Catcher dropping a history lesson that will even make the new kids swing and shake their money makers! Pink Mammoth djs Gravity and Jonathan W. (J DubYa) will be playing with Spirit Catcher in San Francisco May 14th at MIGHTY More info here: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=115238448503442
