Some of our podcasts have themes. This podcast has a wide-ranging mix of three 2023 releases and one moderately historical entry from an ECM guitarist whose name Pat dare not pronounce. Can the jazz violin be a force for good? We think so. Can Pat find a Pyroclastic release that tickles his fancy. You betcha - but no more spoilers. Terje Rypdal – Ketil Bjornstad– LIVE IN LEIPZIG; Ingrid Laubrock – THE LAST QUIET PLACE; Canadian Jazz Collective – SEPTOLOGY: THE BLACK FOREST SESSIONS; Sara Caswell – THE WAY TO YOU.
En JazzX5 suena “Grammy Season” que aparece en la nueva grabación de Ingrid Laubrock, titulada The Last Quiet Place (Pyroclastic Records, 2023). JazzX5 es un podcast de Pachi Tapiz.
The boys take another walk down the "out" side of the street this episode, with looks at a little known outing from one of Charles Mingus' trumpet players to a twin-guitar / alto sax ensemble, to two rather challenging works on the Pyroclastic label. Mike's more patient with those efforts than Pat. Who's ready for some asbestos earmuffs? Pop matters delves into what Iggy Pop got up to with his buddy David Bowie during that infamous Berlin hang. Trevor Dunn – SEANCES; Nate Wooley – ANCIENT SONGS OF BURLAP HEROES; Greg Ward's Rogue Parade – DION'S QUEST; Ted Curson – TEARS FOR DOLPHY.
I like my ghosts like I like my podcasts – weird and slightly furious. Thankfully, this week delivers on both counts – with Johnny Compton's The Spite House delivering more ghosts than you think you could fit into 250-pages … and none of them are anything less than fuming! Johnny talks us through the odd, off-kilter history of spite houses, we trace the legacy of the American haunted house novel, discuss ghost lore and dismiss orbs. We talk about complex father figures and I have my smuggest ever moment of being accidentally right about something. It's a blast. Johnny is a joy to talk to and his book gives great ghostliness.Enjoy! The Spite House was published by on February 7th by Tor Nightfire.Support Talking Scared on PatreonCome talk books on Twitter @talkscaredpod, on Instagram, or email direct to talkingscaredpod@gmail.com Support the show

Hey Geeks, this one we complain and bitch a lot. Join us as we discuss how companies could simply avoid failing by listening to their customers. We talk about the fallout of what should have been successful ventures. We talk about out our excitement for Deadpool 3. Current PC tech is getting out of hand so what do we recommend for someone looking to make a build. Additionally, we share our thoughts on some movies and a few television series. “Corinthian Leather" Tony Malaby's Sabino: The Cave of Winds (Pyroclastic Records, 2022) Tony Malaby, Ben Monder, Michael Formanek, Tom Rainey. La composición es obra de Tony Malaby. Tomajazz: © Pachi Tapiz, 2022 ¿Sabías que? Y siguen faltando cinco... “Interpret It Well" Adelanto de la grabación de Ches Smith: Interpret It Well (Pyroclastic Records, 1999) Ches Smith, Bill Frisell, Craig Taborn, Mat Maneri. Jill and Connor go way back for the beginning of this episode with the kingdom of ÆTHEBALD, KING OF WESSEX who was a bit of freak: he married his widowed step-mother JUDITH. And who was Judith, but the great-granddaughter of CHARLEMAGNE. Charlemagne’s rule was the impetus for the GREAT SCHISM OF 1054. And the schsim was a rift in the Catholic Church between the East and West, Rome and Constantinople. But that's boring so we move onto SOUTHERN ITALY - home to POMPEII which was lost in a the volcanic eruption of Mt. Vesuvius. With every disaster a hero emerges and that hero is PLINY THE ELDER who was killed by Pompeii’s PYROCLASTIC SURGE. This episode is so fun you’ll be frozen in ash! Support Burning Ambulance on Patreon Get the Burning Ambulance email newsletter Kris Davis is a really fascinating pianist who's been on the New York music scene for almost 20 years. She’s made a number of excellent albums as a leader and as a solo artist, and is also a member of groups like Paradoxical Frog with Ingrid Laubrock and Tyshawn Sorey, and Anti-House with Laubrock, Mary Halvorson, John Hébert and Tom Rainey. I saw that group perform at the Vision Festival at Roulette in Brooklyn back in 2012, and they’ve got three albums which are all worth your time. She also recently joined a group formed by cornet player Rob Mazurek, with Ingebrigt Håker Flaten and Chad Taylor, for his Desert Encrypts festival in Marfa, Texas, and they’ve released a live recording, Desert Encrypts Vol. 1. In this conversation, we talk about Kris Davis’s music, her label Pyroclastic, which is where her new album Diatom Ribbons is coming out and also where Chris Lightcap, who was on the last podcast, is releasing his Superbigmouth album, both next week. We also talk about composing, and arranging, and her work at Berklee College of Music, where she’s just joined the faculty. Mayan calendar They had one! And so do we. They both end on some sort of the cycle and the world never ends because of our arbitrary selection of scope. Aloha beer gulpers! On this episode of Friends Drink Beer, we dive into our first Porter, and might I add, we started things off right! Pyroclastic Porter by Mazama Brewing is an extremely light bodied beer with hints of coffee, chocolate, and a delicious aftertaste of mocha. If you’re not typically a fan of Porters, I highly recommend giving this a shot to change your mind. Today’s guest is a good friend of ours, Rob Pinkston. If you’re 90s kids like us, you may remember Rob as “Coconut Head” in the Nickelodeon Series, “Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide.” In this episode of FDB, we did our best modern day interpretation of “Macho Man" on a date, we checked to see if Ryan’s hips do indeed lie, and we discussed the early years of Rob’s career & the unique audition that sealed the part of Coconut Head. Sit back, relax with a brew, and enjoy this episode of Friends Drink Beer! Have a question for Ryan & Alex? Submit it today at www.friendsdrinkbeer.com, and we will answer it on the next episode!
