Its Never Too Late

Generation Gap has been on the air nearly ten years, hosted by Dorothy Wilhelm. and Ray Miller Still, Editor in Chief of The Enumclaw Courier Herald. Ray says there are only 2 Courier Herald Newspapers in the World. One is in the United States and One in Ireland. So it's been our custom to decide on the question we'll discuss for each show. Dorothy, born in 1934, is a member of the Silent Generation. The Silent Generation is generally defined as those born between 1928 and 1945. This generation grew up during the Great Depression and World War II, which significantly shaped their values and worldview. We're called Silent because we didn't make waves. We didn't protest. We had seen the Great Depression and the Great War. We just wanted peace and civic involvement. Ray is a member of the Millennials who were born between 1981 and 1996, making them approximately 29 to 44 years old in 2025. This age range is defined by the Pew Research Center and is widely accepted, although some sources may vary by a year or two. And then our newest Generation Gap member is Jason Falls. we're still working on remembering what generation he belongs to, but we think Gen z. Stand by for late breaking bulletins. This month Ray suggested that we talk about the video games that everybody is playing these days. It didn't work out too well. Ray wanted to hear about the games that Dorothy played, and she denied ever playing a game in her life. Jason was ready to dive in. Born in 1975, he's a member of Gen x, according to the books, but I'm not convinced. He just doesn't seem like an X - more about this later. We were all ready to talk about games. According to Generation z blogs, this is an important indicator of the generations. It doesn't say why. Gen Z is the most important generational shift so far, according to Gen Z Blogs but their experiences and outlook are not understood well enough by those who have come before them. Generation Z has huge, as yet mostly untapped, potential to meet the challenges of today. In 2025 Generation Z will form over a quarter of the UK workforce and an even larger proportion of US. The older ones are already in management positions in large companies and ripping up the rulebook on their own. Their importance in the workplace will grow. But back to our question. Dorothy is steadfast in her determination not to play games or even have a pedicure for that matter. So you'll want to tune in next month to hear the final word on Why Generations Fight and if we can possibly get along. I actually thank we can, but I'm not sure I can learn one of those electronic games. But little old people can't manage those teeny keys. This is the closest thing to a drop dead question that we've had on Generation Gap. What do you think about old time hands and new time games. Learn more about your ad choices. It's Independence Day, the 4th of July is at hand.  Let's talk about illegal fireworks - and other patriotic things. On this edition of  Generation Gap, we pay tribute to the old days of the  4th of July when celebration wasn't complete til somebody blew off one or more appendages. On this show our regulars (Dorothy - Silent Generation ) (Ray - Millennial) (Jason - Gen X) will recall how Independence Day was different in their generations. Since we've been doing this show more than 10 years, we're convinced that there really is a big difference between generations. The fact is, when children and Grandkids come into the picture, it's a wonder anybody is still speaking. That's when we come in. On Generation Gap, we try to add some light to those different groups.  But then that sounds a little dull, so let's add some excitement with Fireworks!! After all, it is July.  Now, fireworks have always been controversial - But we've always loved them.    On today's show, Dorothy will talk about how she discovered an unopened trunk, left behind after her husband's death and full of illegal fireworks. Did you ever try to get rid of a trunkful of illegal fireworks? and Ray tells about the year he inadvertently set his street on fire.  In short, It will be a lot of fun. For the kiddies, there's the story of how big sister Elaine talked her brother into being the rear end of the horse costume she made.  Poor Stephen had a terrible time.  Fun Fact: It turns out that nobody gives treats to the rear end of a horse.   According  to PBS news. The display of pyrotechnics has always  been a big part of Independence Day. Founding Father John Adams saw it coming. Commemoration of America's independence “ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more,” Adams wrote in a letter to his wife, Abigail, dated July 3, 1776. Fireworks were around centuries before America became a nation. The American Pyrotechnics Association says many historians believe fireworks were first developed in the second century B.C. in ancient China by throwing bamboo stalks into fires, causing explosions as the hollow air pockets overheated. By the 15th century, fireworks were widely used for religious festivals and public entertainment in Europe and early U.S. settlers carried on those traditions, the Association said. In this episode, Sabrina Halvorson and Lorrie Boyer discuss key agricultural issues anticipated for 2025. The conversation explores rising input costs exacerbated by geopolitical events, ongoing supply chain pressures, and the impact of climate change. They also touch upon shifting consumer preferences towards plant-based proteins, vertical farming, and the impacts of inflation on the agriculture sector. The hosts emphasize the resilience of the agricultural industry in finding solutions to these challenges. Lorrie talks with Ray Miller, a meteorologist with Meteorology, who discussed the impacts of climate change on weather patterns. He explained that increased CO2 levels lead to more extreme weather conditions, including severe droughts, heavy rainfall, and intense storms. He noted that the central U.S. saw above-average precipitation this year, but parts of the South remain in drought. Miller emphasized the critical need for water management in agriculture due to these extremes. He also highlighted the rise in hurricane intensity and size, and the increase in wildfires in unexpected regions. Despite other factors like urban heat islands and solar cycles, Miller stressed that human-induced CO2 and methane are significant contributors to climate change. Sabrina interviews Mitch Hunter, Co-Director of the Forever Green Initiative at the University of Minnesota. They discuss the challenges and innovations in growing crops during winter in regions like North Dakota and Minnesota. Key topics include the development of winter-hardy cash cover crops such as winter camelina and domesticated pennycress, which can be harvested for biofuel. Hunter also highlights other exciting agricultural developments, including Kernza, a perennial grain crop. The Forever Green Initiative aims to promote soil health and provide farmers with diverse income streams.

Generation Gap – with Coach Jim Johnson A Coach and a Miracle Ray Miller Still – rstill@courierherald.com     Jim Johnson - www.coachjimjohnson.com  This is the story of an incredible relationship between a high school student and his basketball coach. Coach Jim Johnson's sense of compassion led him to give an autistic, learning disabled team manager a once-in-a-lifetime chance—and how that boy seized the opportunity in such a stupendous way will not be forgotten anytime soon. This is a story about an event that the coach rates as a genuine, modern-day miracle. It is an important book for sports fans and for people who need to believe that miracles can still happen. It also reinforces the value of applying passion, goal-setting, perseverance, and teamwork to any of life's endeavors. ISBN: 978-0-9841318-7-7 #GenerationGap,#jjhoops, #J-Mac, #DickVitali, #JimNance, #life lessons, #NationalSpeakersAssociation, #AutismUp, #GreeceAthenaHS

In fact, this famous actor from Hollywood's golden age will be your babysitter. From the spooky car ride up a narrow driveway in Benedict Canyon to the creaky opening of the front door that reveals an elderly James Cagney, you are captivated! The star of The Public Enemy, Yankee Doodle Dandy, White Heat, Mister Roberts, and many other Hollywood classics is nothing like you'd expect. He's not brash; he's not a killer; he isn't loud and he doesn't sing and dance. He is quiet and gentle and full of imagination. In one afternoon away from the pressures of a perfectionist father, you relax and fall under the spell of a wonderful babysitter who makes you feel special and encourages you to enter an imaginary world where leprechauns come to life and owls speak to you from the trees. Hours later, you leave James Cagney's house changed from a timid child into an enthusiastic young man who's infused with self-confidence and ready for life's next adventure. Ryan Cassidy is the youngest of the Cassidy brothers and is often placed into context with brothers David Cassidy (half-brother), Shaun Cassidy and Patrick Cassidy or parents Shirley Jones and the late Jack Cassidy. At first, Ryan was unswayed by the lure of show business and considered a career in law enforcement. Johnny Ray Miller, a native of Canton, Ohio, has been an aficionado of the Partridge Family television program and their recorded music from the show's beginnings. Miller is a concert and theatre producer, actor and director.

Miller is a concert and theatre producer, actor, and director. He has produced and directed live theatre for more than 25 years, and has presented live concert performances by David Cassidy, Davy Jones and many others. Miller also has experience in the film/TV industry as well, having worked on Desperate Housewives, Rules of Engagement, King of Queens, CSI: New York, E.R., Cold Case, Without a Trace, The O.C. and others. When We're Singin' is Miller's first book. About The Book Before there was music, there was a family. Then the family made music, or seemingly so. Before we heard the music, we met the family. Or was it the other way around? This is where our story begins. When We're Singin' The Story of The Partridge Family and Their Music answers those question and more, in a detailed and revealing biography. This landmark television series launched the careers of David Cassidy, Susan Dey, Danny Bonaduce, Brian Forster and Suzanne Crough while capitalizing on the star power of Acadamy Award winning actress Shirley Jones and comedic talent Dave Madden. Wrecking Crew - LA Studio Musicians The music from the TV show (loosely based on The Cowsills) also stood on its own, thanks to the talents of the greatest singers, musicians and musical arrangers that ever walked the streets of Hollywood. John Bahler, Tom Bahler, (formerly The Love Generation), with Jackie Ward and Ron Hicklin were the real background voices.

SHOW NOTES KEY IDEAS:  However, you decided to get into business for yourself there is one constant; you must make the leap from your full-time job to your new business when the time is correct.  For most of this audience is especially true because so many of us have a lot at risk.  If you are in your mid to late '20s without a 401K, a family, a house, etc. then making a big leap is a lot less risky.  But for the rest of us, we really need to mitigate this risk. Our guest today, Ray Miller, does not take this lightly.  Even as his microbe business grows and spreads across the nation, he continues with his previous career on a less frequent note.  He does not want to let his license expire, thus burning that bridge to an income if he were ever to need it.  So, he is content taking it slow and making the leap when the timing is right. I normally follow Dan Miller's lead and suggest making the leap when your new enterprise is producing 50% of your full-time income as a side hustle.  However, if you have the ability to do what Ray is doing, it is a great idea.  That is, just shifting percentages of income generation gradually until the new enterprise takes over for the previous one. Ray followed an interesting path to his own business, much as our guest in episode #468 did by becoming a distributor of Rogue Equipment.  Ray found a great product and realized that there was a need for it, but people around the country did not know about it.  He made it his mission to rectify this and became a distributor.  He has seen great results and cautions us that you had better believe in your product before you decide to deliver it to the rest of the nation. ADVICE FROM RAY: SLOWLY: Make your transition from your full-time job slow and gradual.  Just because you have a great idea does not mean that you should slaughter the goose that is laying the golden eggs. PERSON: As much as you can, meet people in person and shake their hand.  The internet and social media are great tools and need to be used, but they are not a substitute for eye contact. NEEDS: When you are trying to find a business to start, identify what it is you want that business to do for you.  Then make sure whatever you pick is in line with that. BEST BUSINESS ADVICE RAY HAS RECEIVED: "If You Don't Believe In What You Are Doing, Nobody Else Is Going To" PERSONAL HABIT THAT HELPS RAY SUCCEED: PEOPLE: Ray loves to meet and get to know new people.  This helps him to succeed.
