Painstakingly researched and written by football-obsessed writer and experienced game journalist, historian, and documentarian Richard Moss – author of Bitmap's own The Secret History of Mac Gaming – A Tale of Two Halves: The History Of Football Video Games stays keenly on the ball as it shares the rich and influential history of video game football – or 'soccer', for our American readers – striving to understand the very best the genre has to offer; and those releases that go a little wide of their target. A Tale of Two Halves takes you on a fascinating journey from the very first examples of the form all the way through to the genre's 2000s' heyday. It hits the back of the net with expert analysis of over 400 football games, including Sensible Soccer, Kick Off, Match Day, FIFA, Pro Evolution Soccer, This Is Football, Championship Manager, Premier Manager, and both old-school and new-school Football Manager. Gathered together in a single volume, that remarkable spread of releases presents a surprising variety of interpretations of the beautiful game, showcasing one of the medium's most creative, beguiling realms. A Tale of Two Halves primarily focuses on footy gaming's formative years – meaning from around 1980 to 2010 – and carefully divides the genre into two distinct halves, taking a considered look at each. As such, the first half is dominated by the fast and simple 2D action of icons like Kick Off, International Soccer, and Nintendo's Soccer. Then, following the half-time whistle, it turns its attention to the increasingly realistic 3D outings defined by icons like FIFA, Pro Evo, and Virtua Striker. Across its 628 pages, A Tale of Two Halves also features a foreword by legendary commentator Clive Tyldesley, hundreds of meticulously realised screenshots, and 13 interviews with pioneering football game developers. Inside you'll also find a series of illustrations from James Reynolds' 'Unlicensed FC' project – which celebrates Pro Evo's unusual takes on players' real names – as well as perfectly pitched pixel art from the team at 8-Bit Football. Numerous gaming platforms are covered, from the Atari 2600 and C64 to the Collecovison, via the Amiga line, PlayStation 1, Xbox 360, Arcades, and many more. Rudolf Thomas Inderst is a professor of Game Design with a focus on Digital Game Studies at the IU International University of Applied Science, department lead for Games at Swiss culture magazine Titel kulturmagazin, radio host of “Replay Value”, editor of “DiGRA D-A-CH Game Studies Watchlist”, a weekly messenger newsletter about Game Culture and curator of @gamestudies at tiktok. At the start of April 1981, it looked likely that Bobby Robson's Ipswich Town were going to win an incredible treble of the league, the FA Cup and the UEFA Cup. How those dreams were dashed and how others benefitted is the subject of this two-part series. In this first episode, Martyn is joined by Richard Moss of 'The Suffolk Crunch', the author Colin Plumb who attended nearly every Ipswich game that season, Mike Leigh of 'The Spurs Show' and the BBC's Pat Murphy, who was a young reporter covering the Midlands at the time, to put together the background as to how these three teams were built and ready for glory. Shareware was a major distribution model for consumer software and games from the 1980s through to the 2000s. We're privileged to be joined on the show by journalist and tech historian Richard Moss, the author of "Shareware Heroes: The renegades who redefined gaming at the dawn of the internet." In the most common scenario, a piece of shareware is distributed free of charge but users pay a fee to "register" their copy which may include unlocking additional features or content. Some of the most popular PC utilities and games of the 80s and 90s were distributed largely through shareware including PKZip and Doom. Richard discusses the history, impact, and evolution of the shareware model. Episode Summary: What's next? In today's episode of SoulTalk Podcast. I am joined by Richard Moss, an internationally respected visionary thinker, gifted consciousness teacher, and spiritual mentor. He wrote a number of books about life, realization, freedom from fear, love, relationships, and more. As a practicing physician in 1977, he experienced a change that led me to a profound understanding of the human condition. That was the beginning of his exceptional works of intelligence for his teachings today. Then, Richard's love for teaching grew, and aims for everyone to become their own inner teacher. For him, there is a period of introversion and integration of consciousness into dreams that no one can ever predicate or know. This inner teacher led him to understand the nature of human being more. And he could navigate more deeply the immense wisdom that dwells inside through a high level of emotional and spiritual intelligence to be able to contribute to the evolution of consciousness and creation of the world in which every human being can thrive. More than transformation and life realizations, Richard is ready to talk about the most pressing issue today ~ world catastrophes. For the last few years, the world has experienced and continues to experience such adversities. From CoVid in 2020, the war between Russia and Ukraine in 2022, and just recently the deadly earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria. So, if you're curious to know where to position yourself in challenging times like these head over to this week's episode and be ready to renounce your belief and awareness about the world we live in today! “... you have to slow down enough. You have to spend enough time with yourself. You have to sit and watch the seasons change and look out at the ocean. You need quietness in order to get to that ground inside yourself. And the ground isn't the place, it's a place you relate from. It's a touch.” Timestamps: 0:53 - Guest intro 3:25 - Richard's perspective on the world's catastrophes for the past few years 6:52 - How do your thoughts impact your life? 10:02 - The difference between pain and suffering 11:30 - What is fear? 13:11 - Is there a wrong way of thinking? 20:24 - Understanding the concept of a disrespectful behavior 25:29 - The importance of practicing mindfulness in conversations 30:41 - How schools are influencing or developing our minds? 35:30 - How should people respond to injustices? 44:16 - Ways to overcome prejudice with joy and love 49:29 - How to deal with fear 1:00:26 - What is conscious dying? In this episode, you will learn about: The impact of world catastrophes on life. The difference between pain and suffering. Facing your greatest fear. Practical tips to become more mindful despite the chaos. The concept of conscious dying. Some questions I ask: What is the impact of world catastrophes today? How do I know if what I'm thinking is right or wrong? How to handle a disrespectful situation? How to respond when injustice seems to prevail? How to face your fear with an ally of love, clarity, and touch? How do you accept the reality of death? On today’s episode, I speak with Richard Moss – an internationally respected leader in the field of inner transformation, subtle body-mind dynamics, and living a path of conscious relationships. In 1977 Richard was a practicing medical doctor when he experienced a spontaneous spiritual illumination that awakened him to the multi-dimensional nature of human consciousness. He has published 7 seminal books including Inside-Out Healing: Tranforming Your Life Through the Power of Presence, and more - on his visionary approach to human evolution which have been translated into 6 languages. We talk about the following and so much more. ✅ What presence means ✅ What the “mandala of being” is and how people can use this method ✅ How to deal with difficult moments in life, let’s say a divorce, or the loss of a child or job ✅ Why it’s so difficult for people to stay present, and how he encourages people to move towards presence If you purchase today, you’ll get a FREE 1 year supply of immune-supporting Vitamin D AND 5 FREE travel packs with your first purchase. Tuesdays bring a welcome visit from our friend Eric Peters from Eric Peters Autos. Conversations with Eric are always informative and leave me more determined than ever to live as a free individual. Few of us would aspire to being known as a country bumpkin. The contempt of the ruling class for such folks is almost palpable. Even so, Dr. Richard Moss makes a good argument for why country bumpkins will win the day when times get tough. The ongoing push for more covid boosters and vaccinations is baffling. As Jon Miltimore explains, it's especially puzzling considering that natural immunity offered more protection against the Omicron variant than 3 vaccine doses. Legacy media is circling the wagons on the subject of potential election fraud in the 2020 election. The phrase they're using is, "No evidence of widespread fraud." Eric Lendrum begs to differ and offers 21 confirmed illegalities and irregularities that cast doubt on the integrity of that election. It's not like we don't have enough to worry about these days. At the same time, if you want insight into how the political class and their media enablers have undermined the American people over decades, you'll want to understand the 5 "Ds" they've utilized. CambridgeChangesGoalsChancesPerformancesMotMMK Dons & RotherhamIpswich PreviewView From The Home EndRef Watch PreviousPredictionsLeague One FixturesWell, that wasn't what the doctor ordered, League One continually throws up surprises, both ourselves and MK Dons falling to defeat whilst out of form Rotherham grind out a result. This is going to the wire isn't it. We were well out of sorts but credit must go to Cambridge who looked very capable and caused us lot's of problems. Four games to go, top of the league by four points and a game in hand on one of the two teams that can catch us, I'd have taken that three weeks ago let alone the start of the season, we've been magnificent throughout the course of this campaign, now we just need to hold our nerve and get the job done.Ipswich away on Tuesday, a great insight into the Tractor Boys from our guest, Richard Moss in the 'View From The Home End', all I can say is bring it on, a win for us and defeat for MK Dons away at Oxford and we are up with three games to go, but let's not get carried away, a tough game in store at Portman Road, but we are excellent on the road. Exciting times.Up The Tics!
In the final episode of Season 2, I go back in time with writer/producer Richard Moss as we discuss the 80s/90s in playing on an Apple computer and - naturally - the shareware years: where did shareware come from, how did it fade and the different experience between Europe and the United States. Along the way, we also touch upon demo discs nostalgia.
Dr. Nia Haydel, Vice President of Alliance Engagement and Institutional Transformation at CCA, is joined by three guests: Dr. Richard Moss, Director of STEM Success at the University of Arkansas, Pulaski Technical College; Dr. Brandon Nichols, Vice President of Academic Affairs at Olive-Harvey College, and Dr. Amber Garrison Duncan, formerly Strategy Director at the Lumina Foundation, and currently the Executive Vice President at the Competency-Based Education Network. Please join us for this exciting conversation about Complete College America's work to improve student success outcomes at Predominantly Black Community Colleges and Historically Black Community Colleges, in this two-year project, funded by the Lumina Foundation.

You can find accompanying slides at https://tinyurl.com/paxausambrosiatalk as well as my full script on the accompanying blog post at lifeandtimes.games. So please, enjoy, and I'll see you in a couple of weeks. The synopsis: For Mac gamers in the 90s, the people of Ambrosia Software were rockstars. Heroes. And with brilliant games like Maelstrom, Escape Velocity, Harry the Handsome Executive, Apeiron, and more, plus a company newsletter that spoke directly to the fans, they could do no wrong. In light of Ambrosia's recent closure (finally!), Secret History of Mac Gaming author Richard Moss recounts the studio's high and lowpoints and tells the stories behind its best games. *** Thanks as always to my supporters on Patreon — especially my $10+ backers Vivek Mohan, Simon Moss, Wade Tregaskis, Eric Zocher, and Seth Robinson. “Love brings us as close to Source as we can be.” ~ Richard Moss Richard guides us in a beautiful meditation that reminds us that “There is only now — the body is always in the now” and that “breathing is like a friend that has never abandoned you your whole life.” Bring a new frame for understanding and touch the moment with a quality of awareness that moves you into purposeless from the point of view of the ego, as Richard describes. “Love brings us as close to Source as we can be.” ~ Richard Moss Richard Moss has dedicated his life to loving Love with a Capital L. In this episode, receive the invitation to connect with the wildness of the soul, the part of you that wants to dance with love and “die into love.” Richard shares about experiencing life challenges as the deeper opportunity of our lives to love, the way towards intimacy, and planting a tree in fear. In this episode: Relationship as a way to accelerate loving Love, Why is this called the Embody Podcast? Embodiment as a beginning-less and endless journey, being obedient to nature, and thinner skin and more sensitivity in aging. Richard looks truth and present happenings in the face — he vulnerably shares how his financial challenge is accelerating his deepening, the reality that there are no guarantees of identity or security in life even if we borrow it from the past or future, that democracy is only as good as the people in it and being seduced, and the root of our hurting the planet, recycling, and social issues. Richard says, “we don't leave behind patriarchy without a profound change of identity” and “If you love love what else is there to do?” In 1977 Richard Moss was a practicing physician when he experienced a spontaneous state of illumination that irreversibly changed his life and profoundly transformed his understanding of human consciousness and behavior. With this opening came a new level of sensibility including a heightened intuition, subtle insight into mystical and spiritual teachings, and the ability to sense human body-energy fields. Impelled by this opening and its intensity which required virtually continuous self-examination, he took a sabbatical from his medical practice and began a period of withdrawal from his usual activities for nearly a year. During this time he spontaneously meditated for hours each day and read extensively in the spiritual and psychoanalytic literature, as well as poetry, and mythology. Above all, he made a careful observation of the new quality of energy moving in his body, and how his thoughts instantly generated emotions and sensations. “He who loves, loves love, and loving love forms a circle so complete, there is no end to love." Saint Bernard, quoted by Richard Moss in the February 2017 seminar in Hameaux de l'Etoile, France From this introspective period grew his understanding that the root cause of most unnecessary human suffering and conflict comes from two basic forms of ignorance: Unquestioned identification with thinking, especially our judgments and beliefs, and secondly, the general inability in most people to engage threatening feeling in an aware, vulnerable, and creative way. Richard's work is about catalyzing you to live as fully and creatively as you were born to live. His goal is that you don't just follow his or anyone's work, but that you learn to become your own teacher. Following this podcast, there will be a meditation provided by Richard, it's called “83a: Touch this Moment with Richard Moss” and can be found on the link below.
