Y'all! I'm taking a break! Whuuuuuut? Yes! After over 6 years of producing (at least) weekly episodes for this show, I'm talking a wee break, and in this week's episode, I'm sharing why I'm pausing now, what that's going to look like for the podcast, and how you can take a break as well. Listen this week to find out the practical things I'll be doing during my break (because I have to make it as useful as possible, don't I? lol.) as well as the ways I'm holding space for myself. Aaaaaand you'll get to hear a little bit about what might be coming down the track for RYHSY. A new podcast name?! Maybe, just maybe. WHO EVEN KNOWS ANYTHING ANYMORE??? Oh! If you're already wondering when new episodes will be coming, don't fret! I've got a bunch of my faves queued up for your ears while I'm away!! What I said: "Just because you can keep going doesn't mean you should." "Your break doesn't have to be all or nothing." "Let 'I don’t know' be normal. Accept it for where you are right now instead of working harder and pushing more." For the month of August, the Biden campaign outraised the Trump campaign by a whopping $150 million. (Biden raked in $360 million last month compared to Trump’s $210 million). As stark as this fundraising difference may be, is there any reason to believe it will be meaningful in the long run?A lot of this money will go toward television ads at this point, but campaign money starts diminishing in value once people start voting by mail. In other words … now. Not to mention that the fundraising difference doesn’t matter so long as each candidate meets a certain threshold. On today’s campaign update episode, our podcast hosts discuss these fundraising efforts while dissecting Trump’s surprising lead with Hispanic voters as well as the usefulness of yard signs, door knocking, and phone banking to a campaign’s overall success. Rather than waste time putting up yard signs or trying to persuade voters to vote with ideologically charged Facebook posts, Sarah argues that the most important—and statistically effective—thing you can do to boost voter turnout is text your closest friends and remind them to vote. As David points out, “It fits in with the sort of general reality that we have a large amount of influence over a small amount of people and a small amount of influence over a large number of people.” Stick around for a discussion about the newest additions to Trump’s Supreme Court list—also known as Sarah’s close friends list—as well as David’s latest Sunday French Press newsletter on the use and abuse of critical race theory. Episode 315: A teacher, mystic and poet, Richard Rudd attended Edinburgh University where he gained a Master’s degree in literature and metaphysics. A born explorer, he has studied with great teachers in the East, traveled through the Himalayas, the Pacific, the Americas and the Arctic. He worked in the film industry in Australia, trained as a teacher of Chi Kung and meditation in Thailand and sailed across the Atlantic Ocean on a small yacht. Throughout his adventures Richard Rudd has explored his love of writing and in 2006 he won the FISH international poetry award in Ireland. Richard's mystical journey began early in life as he experienced strange energies rushing throughout his body. This catalyzed his spiritual search. All his studies became synthesized in 2002 when he began to write and receive the Gene Keys - a vast synthesis exploring the miraculous possibilities inherent in human DNA. It took 7 years to write the book and understand its teachings and applications. Today Richard continues to study and teach the profound lessons contained in the Gene Keys. It brought him in touch with an awareness of his destiny. Richard took years to understand and integrate the experience he had, eventually resulting in the Gene Keys!. "Humanity has built itself on the higher truths, without realizing." "To really access deep veins of truth, you cannot rush. You've got to be loving. You've got to be gentle. You've got to romance wisdom. A Gene Key represents an encyclopedia of an aspect of consciousness, encoded in all things. "Each Gene Key gives us the opportunity to rephrase the language of a life." As long as you've found yourself with someone who is essentially kind at their core, allow yourself to "dig your well" deeply with that person. "Two people coming together is an alchemical cauldron." "Someone who provokes you is a really wonderful gift." "The divine isn't cruel. The divine wants you to see the fruits of your labor." Many spiritually minded people operate with the assumption/wish that this is their "last life," but often that's more reflective of the fact that they're not particularly enjoying this life. Philosophically one's "last life" would be incredibly ecstatic and joyful, so the challenge is to see the opportunity and identify what's left to be done. "There's a perfection in every moment." Richard believes that the next epoch of humanity will not be based in suffering, but bliss. It's important to do the work to understand suffering (shadow). Richard believes we may retain memory between births in the next phase of our evolution. Béla Hamvas: "Drink, and the wine will take care of the rest." We cannot pretend that life is going to get back to normal. It's not. And we believe that's a good thing, especially for families. I want to talk to you about a pervasive lie that flys around the self development world. I believe that the idea of being an overnight success is a lie! If you're looking to achieve long-term change with quick fix type answers, then this is not the place for you. Instead, what I do wholeheartedly believe, is the power of being consistent. That's right, doing your best, most of the time, over time, is the way to work towards real and lasting growth. This has been evident many times in my own life, most notably in the success of this very podcast. And you don't have to want any type of public platform to need this message. For instance, you know I've been applying the methods of consistency to my forever goal of getting to bed earlier. What you lack in time, talent, and opportunity can be made up for in consistency. Tune in for the 3 ways to break through the obstacles that I now are holding you back. About a few other things... In my efforts to embrace my inner hippie, I took a good hard look at the skin and makeup products I was using every day. It's important to me that they are clean, and in that search I found and love using Beauty Counter. They are high quality, effective, and free of lots of nasty ingredients that other products contain. This post shares allll my favorites or you can look around yourself here. The Abolition Suite is a series of AirGo episodes exploring the concepts and practices of policing and prison abolition with the thought leaders who have been pushing an abolitionist future forward for decades. The Abolitionist Suite is presented in support of the #DefundCPD campaign and the Black Abolitionist Network. Volume 3 features writer, organizer, and movement worker Andrea Ritchie. Andrea is the author of Invisible No More: Police Violence Against Black Women and Women of Color, and has devoted the last 25 years naming and advocating for women of color, especially LGBTQ women of color, who have been victims of police violence. Ritchie co-authored the report SayHerName: Police Violence against Black Women and Women of Color with Kimberle Crenshaw and the African American Policy Forum. Most recruiting functions work (and treat candidates) as if there's always more fish in the sea. They act as if there are an unlimited supply of candidates, so their job is to just find more. In the last two months, we've seen changes to almost every aspect of our lives, both professionally and personally. So it might stand to reason that our employer brands should change, too. But is that true? Perhaps the answer to that question may determine how successful our employer brands and EVPs ultimately are. What is culture? And why is it I can still ask that question? You'd think after countless books, articles, podcasts, lectures and TED talks, we'd all know what we mean by culture. And yet, that doesn't seem to be the case. If you define your culture by your perks, this month has been quite the wake up call, hasn't it? If you think you can dictate culture, or that it remains static in the face of changing staff, leadership and... well, everything, you're going to be in trouble. In this episode, we get serious about how to think about and leverage culture in our employer brands. Before you dismiss the topic of outsourcing, I promise it does apply to you! Consider all of the things you think you need to, are supposed to, HAVE TO do in a day...then consider how that makes you feel. If it's not a good feeling you can and should outsource your normal life. This is something I did not used to understand, because I wasn't raised in a family that outsourced anything! It's only been recently that I've been able to see the huge benefit in asking for help - paid for and not. When I asked the women in our private Facebook group about this it brought up a lot of hesitation, so this episode is to encourage moving past that with practical solutions. Get creative with your outsourcing: my small children can help with chores, my husband can cook dinner, we can all clean together! If money is your concern, trade favors with friends and ask your family to help. I also share the one way I outsourced that I've stopped, well actually changed and I'll keep you posted on how it works out! About a few other things... During these episodes I share my latest and greatest Amazon find. Remember how in this month's intro episode I admit that 'beauty' is one of my top values? Well I love when my nails are done, but don't love everything about going to a salon to have them done. I have found a gel nails system that's been a game changer! It's easy to use, works super well, and allows me to do something more often that brings me joy. LAST CALL! Don't worry, the title of this episode is meant to be a little dramatic! It's also meant to make you pause, and think. Because it's true, we all evolve or die (ever heard what doesn't kill you makes you stronger?). But I know from experience, this is harder than it sounds. This month we're focusing on CHANGE. How, why, when, and all the messy in-between. Evolve or die. Twelve years ago I was not the person I am today. I'm sharing some of the major struggles that consumed my ability to evolve in hopes that you can do the same for yourself. I also touch on the difference between quitting and stopping, as well as what it means to pivot and keep growing. This has been applicable in my personal development, but also in my marriage and even on this podcast. Speaking of this podcast, happy 200th episode to US! I had no clue where sharing my message via microphone and internet would lead me, I just knew I needed to do it. Thank you for being here old friends and new, and thank you for making this a true community. This is a little ironic, but I actually changed this month's theme at the last second. We're going to treat September sort of like the New Year (it feels like it in so many ways, don't you think??) and dig deep to discover what AND how we need to dare to change. Why am I daring you to do this? Because it's going to be hard, but it is going to be worth it. And this isn't some blanket statement where you need to feel totally overwhelmed that you aren't good enough and the only answer is to completely change. Instead, I'm spelling out just 3 areas where you can make changes that fit your values. And of course, I'm spilling my guts about the changes I'm personally making, as well as my top 7 values. One of them I sort of wanted to go back and change, but I didn't! When you do this exercise I'm curious if you find yourself feeling the same. Lastly, I quickly summarize the upcoming podcast guests by sharing just a little about each of them. There is so much in store for all of us this month and I hope you find and take advantage of whatever best guides you towards the growth you deserve. You know how I'm here to give you a hug and kick in the pants? Well this month's sponsor, Saranoni Luxury Blankets, has got the hug part covered. As a whole, I believe that landscape and travel photographers are good people with equally good intentions. We are all eager to photograph the beauty of nature and go to great lengths to protect it… for the most part. Unfortunately, the groundswell of social media ego and a general lack of values localized to a subset of people have resulted in myriad negative effects on nature. Rather than appreciating the privilege of shooting at these locations, some people see it as their right, with the expressed interest of getting that new post on Instagram. The resulting general consensus has been to prohibit, or discourage, sharing locations or tagging them on social media posts. The idea is that by making it harder for others to find those locations, the odds of them being destroyed or overrun with tourists will decrease. The problem I see with this tactic is that it doesn’t do much to raise awareness and educate people. Tucking this info under the carpet may be a decent stopgap solution, but the real effort should be in empowering everyone to take greater care of our precious natural environments. That’s why I’m very excited about a brand new project that my guest, Luka Esenko, is announcing: PhotoHound. Native to Slovenia, Luka is a fantastic photographer and guide who has traveled to over 50 countries in Europe and SE Asia. He believes that we, as a photo community, can do amazing things when we not only share all the beauty and variety that this world offers but also practice common sense, responsible photography. Instead of keeping location information proprietary, Luka wants to address the issue head-on and equip photographers with the knowledge and tools to preserve these locations. I’m a big fan of this plan and can’t wait to see what he does with PhotoHound. Happiness emerges from connection. Here's the bad news: Connection will cost us something.A beautiful way to connect is through gratitude. Today we’re shifting our perspective on what it means to see your reflection in others. Everyone in your life is a mirror. The people you surround yourself with are excellent reminders of the things you like or dislike about yourself. We don’t always like what we see, so how can we use these mirrors as lessons instead of reacting to our reflections? What can we learn about ourselves when we feel jealous and competitive towards someone or irritated and annoyed at the actions of others? Where your energy goes, your attention flows. Remember Heather? This genius creative was on the show when I first launched This EndoLife Podcast, talking about her diagnosis with interstitial cystitis and how changing her diet overhauled her health and allowed her to live again. Heather Crosby went on to found Yum Universe, and in more recent years, got so much into gluten free baking that she created the insanely good looking Gluten-Free Baking Academy. I've been eyeing up these recipes for a while... Gluten free English muffins, gluten free sourdough bread, gluten free wraps, gluten free bagels - BAGELS - gluten free cornbread, gluten free biscuits... It's aaaaall there. I know how tough the endometriosis diet is, and how cutting out carbs (read: bread), can be really, really hard. I miss toast like I missed my first ex-boyfriend, before I realised he was a dick. And to be honest, I have some go-to gluten free brands, but they're still not the same. Gluten free baking with The Gluten-Free Baking Academy is about understanding gluten free baking so you have the knowledge and foundations to make gluten free baked goods from scratch that work and taste amazing. Heather Crosby cuts out all the junk, and her recipes are all dairy and egg free. I chatted to Heather about how going gluten free changed her health, why she started the Gluten-Free Baking Academy and how you can go gluten free and create incredible gluten free recipes at home. Future Squared with Steve Glaveski - Helping You Navigate a Brave New World
Most of us are familiar with Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. The theory on psychological health is now almost 70 years old, but rings as true today as it did when it first emerged in 1943. It is even more pronounced today with the emergence of millennials in the west who tend to chase purpose rather than just profit, in stark contrast to prior generations, a testament to having already met their other needs. One could draw parallels between this hierarchy and the hierarchy of needs when it comes to innovation within a large company. In this FFF, I dig a little deeper into what I’ll dub the Hierarchy of Needs for Corporate Innovation. Episode 139 - Today's guests are two old friends of the show. We first talked to Don Mann in March of last year when Battlefrog first burst onto the scene. He has since left BattleFrog and created Frogman Charities. He talks a little about why he left and what his new charity organization is all about. Next up is our old pal Hunter. In 2012 and 2013, Hunter was on the podium almost every time he raced (and he raced a lot). Hunter has made a shift in 2014, and has not been on the Spartan circuit nearly as much. We caught up with him after his recent move to talk about his new job in Miami, his TV job that has been top secret up until now, what races we may find him at, and checking out a vegan lifestyle. Today's episode is sponsored by BattleFrog. Use code "BattleORM" at checkout for our unique discount. Show Notes: Sign up for Frogman Charities latest virtual run.
