Miscarriage is often talked about as a woman's experience—but what about fathers? In this conversation, we open up an honest, faith-centered discussion about pregnancy loss, grief, and the often-overlooked emotional journey men walk through. Whether you've experienced miscarriage or want to better support someone who has, this episode will help you understand what it really looks like to navigate loss as a family. In this episode, Mark shares his family's deeply personal story of an unexpected pregnancy—one that brought surprise, joy, and hope—followed by the sudden heartbreak of miscarriage. What unfolds is an unfiltered look at grief, confusion, and the spiritual questions that come with loss. From wrestling with “why” to dealing with isolation and unspoken expectations, this conversation sheds light on emotions many men feel but rarely express. Mark is joined by Eric Schumacher, who has walked through multiple miscarriages with his own family and now ministers specifically to fathers in this space. Together, they explore the unique challenges dads face—feeling overlooked, unsure how to process grief, and struggling to support their wives while carrying their own pain. This episode offers clarity, validation, and practical encouragement for anyone impacted by miscarriage, directly or indirectly.Resources mentioned: Book - "Ours: Biblical Comfort for Men Grieving Miscarriage" Book - "Dads Hurt Too" Eric's Website Topics covered: How miscarriage impacts fathers emotionally and spiritually Processing grief when you don't feel “allowed” to grieve Supporting your wife while navigating your own loss Common lies and isolation men experience after miscarriage Why miscarriage is a community issue, not just a private one Faith, suffering, and asking hard questions in loss Practical ways to support families going through miscarriage Timestamps:00:00 Unexpected introduction and guest setup00:16 Why miscarriage became a personal issue for this family01:22 Why this conversation matters—even if you haven't experienced loss02:09 Introducing Eric Schumacher and his ministry to fathers02:50 Steven shares his family's pregnancy story03:23 The surprise of pregnancy later in life04:05 Joy, hope, and envisioning a new season of parenting05:09 Navigating uncertainty and early pregnancy concerns05:43 The moment everything changed—loss and grief06:13 Processing deep emotional pain and spiritual questions07:13 Unique challenges of miscarriage later in life07:44 Isolation, lies, and how grief affects men differently08:23 A simple act of care that made a big impact09:18 Why men need support too—and how to offer it10:01 Why this episode took time to share publicly10:31 Eric responds and reflects on the miscarriage experience11:47 Eric's personal story and journey through multiple miscarriages13:45 The complexity of grief, silence, and community dynamics16:22 Turning pain into ministry for fathers Transcript (first few minutes): Hey guys, I'm joined today by Eric Schumacher—and I have to tell you, he came across my radar because something that had never really crossed my mind until about three months ago became a central issue in our family. What makes someone a good friend? We often think about showing up well for the people we love. But what if being a good friend also means learning how to receive care—and even extending that same compassion to ourselves? Dan and Rachael begin this conversation with a simple story about a bus ride that never happened. What unfolds is something bigger: Why is it so hard to ask for help? What keeps us pushing through pain instead of letting others care for us? Together, they explore what faithful friendship looks like: friends who know our stories, tell us the truth with kindness, and lovingly interrupt the patterns that keep us isolated. They also consider how we can begin to offer ourselves that same honesty, tenderness, and care. As you listen, consider: What kind of friend have you become—to the people you love, and to yourself? *This episode contains some explicit language. Listener discretion is advised. What you need to do one year before you retire https://bit.ly/RTchecklist Why do so many meaningful friendships fade as we get older? It's usually not because of a fight or falling out. More often, life simply gets in the way. Careers, raising children, moving, and the responsibilities of adulthood quietly create distance between people who once meant everything to each other. In this episode, Jody shares why reconnecting with old friends can bring unexpected joy, strengthen your sense of belonging, and enrich your retirement years. Through personal stories and practical encouragement, you'll discover why it's never too late to rebuild meaningful friendships and why some of the people you've been thinking about may be hoping to hear from you too. #retirement_transformed #retirementcouple #retirement BUY MARK'S BOOK! In the wake of the sad passing, Friday, July 10, 2026 of Thomas Williams, one of the most influential figures in Nashville's culinary community, I want to honour Thomas Williams and the extraordinary life of selflessness that he lived today. Thomas and I recorded this conversation some years back and I thought that it would be fitting to share it today. This show is about how Thomas rallied a group of talented and giving chefs and other selfless human beings to raise money for aid and recovery efforts after the devastating floods that hit Nashville in 2010. Founding Member Thomas Williams and the beginnings of the Nashville Food Project.

Send us Fan MailYou can spot the right move for your best friend in seconds, but when it's your own life, the same problem suddenly turns into a spiral. That disconnect is exactly what we're tackling here, with one core idea that's simple to say and surprisingly hard to live: be a good friend to yourself.I share why this has become the biggest piece of advice I've leaned on lately, especially after walking through a rough first half of the year and the emotional aftershocks of a long-term relationship ending. When you're hurt, it's easy to slip into anxious cycles, replay every detail, and take on responsibility that was never yours to carry. We talk about the moment therapy called that out clearly and the shift that followed: stop expecting yourself to do the work of two people, then punishing yourself when you burn out. From there, we make it practical. I lay out the “zoom out” questions that help me reset in real time: Would I tell my friend this? If my friend said this thought out loud, what would I say back? Those prompts can interrupt negative self talk, reduce social media comparison, and create a more grounded, resilient state of mind. We also dig into the boundary behind it all: don't set yourself on fire to keep others warm.If you want a cleaner mindset, stronger self-worth, and a healthier way to move through hard seasons, press play. Subscribe, share this with a friend who needs it, and leave a rating and review so we can help more people win.Thank you for tuning in! Description:It's Pride Month, and we couldn't think of a better time to bring back one of our most beloved episodes. Sara Cunningham — founder of Free Mom Hugs — first joined Jen back in 2018, when she was a Christian mom from Oklahoma City who had just started showing up at Pride parades with a handmade sign and a button. A lot has happened since then. What began as one mom extending her arms to strangers has grown into a global movement. Free Mom Hugs now trains advocates, lobbies legislatures, and shows up year after year for LGBTQIA+ people whose own families walked away. Sara hasn't just built an organization — she's built a lifeline. In this conversation, Sara and Jen revisit the journey that started it all: how Sara moved from the church to the Pride parade without losing her faith, what it meant for her son Parker to come out into a family still finding its footing, and how the stories of people who had lost everything — their families, their churches, their sense of belonging — fell into her arms and changed the course of her life. They also talk about what it takes to turn personal pain into structural change, and why showing up — physically, politically, and relationally — for the LGBTQIA+ community matters more than ever right now. This one is worth every minute. Enjoy this encore conversation with our beloved friend, Sara Cunningham! Thought-provoking Quotes: “No one has searched for God more than the Gay Christian.” – Sara Cunningham “The first drag show that I ever went to, when I crossed the threshold, I really thought lightning might strike. But, I realized these are beautiful people raising money for homeless LGBTQ youth. And I was so moved by that. I had it totally wrong. I believed a lie that kept me from some of the most beautiful experiences I've had in my life.” – Sara Cunningham “I remember there was a time, at the beginning of that journey, I call from the church to the pride parade. It was like reality was setting in. The bubble that I was in, the evangelical conservative mainstream bubble that I was in where everyone looked like me and talked like me, had just shattered. And I wanted to take a banner and put it outside of my house on the front door, like, welcome to the real world. And suddenly it's like my eyes are truly open.” - Sara Cunningham Resources Mentioned in This Episode: LGBTQIA MeCourse - https://shop.jenhatmaker.com/products/parenting-lgbtqia-teens-tweens Mama Bears - https://www.realmamabears.org/ FTL Episode ft. Erica Smith is an award-winning sexuality educator, advocate, and author from rural Pennsylvania, where she grew up casually Christian, went to public school, learned sex ed from a gym teacher, and somehow became the most responsible teenage sexual health nerd with birth control, condoms, spermicide, and library books before having sex for the first time. In this episode we talk about purity culture, religious sexual shame, high-control groups, Christian nationalism, marital consent, "duty sex," the pressure placed on both women and men in evangelical purity teachings, and why healing from purity culture is not just about learning sex ed, but reconnecting to your body, your signals, your autonomy, and your right to desire without fear. In this episode of the SHE'S SO WELL Podcast, we dive into the beauty, complexity, and purpose of friendship. So many of us grow up longing for that one best friend or close-knit group where we feel fully known and deeply loved. Yet as we get older, friendships can become messy, complicated, and even painful. Despite living in a hyper-connected world, loneliness is more common than ever—especially among women and Gen Z. So what's missing? We're joined by a special guest known as the "friendship girl," who shares her heart for helping women build meaningful, healthy relationships rooted in Christ. Together, we explore how Jesus transforms not only our lives but also the way we connect with others. In this conversation, we unpack: The common struggles women face in friendships and why they can be hard to navigate A fresh, creative "garden" framework for understanding the stages of friendship Practical tips for making new friends and leaving a lasting first impression Warning signs of toxic friendships and how to handle them with wisdom Biblical principles and Scriptures that guide us in being a good friend We also talk honestly about loneliness and why so many people feel unseen—even while constantly connected online. One key takeaway? Shift the focus outward. When we take a genuine interest in others, we create space for deeper, more meaningful relationships. Inspired by timeless wisdom and the example of Jesus, this episode reminds us: To be interested rather than trying to be interesting To make others feel seen, valued, and known That our worth comes from God—not from others' approval From simple acts like remembering birthdays and making phone calls, to deeper mindset shifts rooted in faith, this episode offers practical encouragement for anyone longing for stronger friendships. If you've ever struggled to find your people or wondered if genuine friendship is still possible—this conversation is for you. In this message from our study through the life of David, Pastor Dave looks at the powerful covenant friendship between Jonathan and David in 1 Samuel 18. Jonathan had every reason to see David as a threat. As the crown prince, he was next in line for the throne, but instead of jealousy or competition, Jonathan chose humility, loyalty, and sacrificial love. This message explores the difference between transactional relationships and covenant relationships, showing us what it means to be a friend who protects, encourages, gives grace, and points others back to God. Ultimately, Jonathan's friendship with David points us to Jesus, who laid down His rights, humbled Himself, and gave His life for us.

Mazel Morons! Today we're joined by the one and only Andrew Santino, who immediately makes himself at home- talking read receipts, parents' nightstands, and whether or not we should be the next Blippy. He walks us through bombing himself in the face mid-standup (yes, with the mic), the realities of microdosing, and why one small moment can ruin an otherwise perfect show. We get into family dynamics, dating red flags, and the unspoken rules of meeting your partner's parents- plus a passionate breakdown of in-home hibachi, golf, and the kinds of guys our wives should be with if it's not us.
