Former Archbishop of Canterbury Dr Rowan Williams gave an address at St Bartholomew's Church in Rogate on Saturday. The occasion was a celebration of 25 years in the parish for the rector, the Reverend Edward Doyle. Both hail from South West Wales. St Bart's was packed for the service which also included music, prayer and a communion. Hear the homily in full.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Why do we pull back from stepping into the awesome current that is currency? Do you know what women do with money? Do you know how awesome we are when we have money? Your clients are already here. What are you waiting for? Step into who you are and let them know you're here. Dealing with money is no different. It is my birthday episode. And today I'm celebrating a big one! Yep, 50th birthday. I have some girls' trips planned, and those of you that are joining me for the Reimagine Your CEO Life Retreat in St. Bart's, we're going to keep the party going there, too. Here's what I'd love to share about the lessons I've learned over this last year and also, what I think is so important for all of us as we step into the roles that we are here to do. Because we are all deserving of wealth and abundance. This is what I've embraced mostly over the last probably three or four years; I've really stepped into owning what I'm here to do. I truly believe that it is time for women to step up into our power. And at this moment in time, it's really increasing our financial wealth. I want you to watch what just happened to your own body when I said the words “financial wealth.” What happened? Did it feel dirty to you? Did you wince? I want you to ask yourself something: If I don't alter my relationship to money over the next year, what will the next two years look like? What will the next three years look like? What will the next five years look like? And I want you to get really honest with yourself. I do an exercise at conferences where I hand a $100 bill to the front row of people, and they pass the bill from person to person until it comes back to me. In all of that transacting, did the $100 lose any value? No. And what did it do on its journey? It brightened the life of every single person who touched it along the way, and then it always comes back. So over this year, my challenge to you is to really heal your relationship to money. And what that's going to take is you healing the need to be liked, you healing the need to be understood. One of the gifts I want to give you on my birthday, on my 50th birthday this year, is I would love for you to find a childhood photo of yourself from ages 2 or 3. I want you to look at that child and I want you to tell that child it doesn't deserve wealth. That child is not deserving of love. Tell that child she can never succeed in business. She just doesn't have what it takes. Tell her she doesn't really deserve all of the success and the joy and the happiness that she desires because she's just not good enough. Watch what happens to you. What will happen as you see the beauty of that little one is you will start to understand that of course you are deserving of everything that you want on planet Earth. And it doesn't matter what it is that you want, you deserve to have it simply because you want it. You were given your desires because they are yours to have. I don't want the same things you want, and you probably don't want the same things I want. I want to make sure that I help as many women as possible make as much money as they would ever want. Because I know the women that are attracted to me and that want to work with me understand that that money is just flowing through them. It's just being borrowed for a little bit until they decide what to do with it, and then it moves on and it goes to someone else. But we can't play at that level if we're pretending like we don't deserve it. We can't play at that level if we allow all the things that other people put on top of that little child that you're going to look at that picture. So my gift to you on my 50th birthday, is that we are elevating this year. We are stepping into worthiness. We are stepping into deserving. We are stepping into power. I cannot wait to see what magic you create, the lives you change, and how differently you start to feel as you walk through your own life over the next 365 days. This week we're getting very excited about one of the international cultural events of the year. The Oscars take place this weekend and in an amazing turn of events, two Scottish businesses have reason to celebrate. Fetcha Chocolates and The Gin Bothy will both see their products feature as part of the famous "Everyone Wins" gift bags which the nominees receive. These bags have an approximate value of $125,000 and include such exclusive contents as luxury skincare and a lavish holiday in St Bart's. On this episode of Scran Rosalind speaks to Fiona MacArthur from her business Fetcha Chocolates in Campbelltown about this exciting development, as well as how she's got to where she is today. You'll hear about how she has gone all out to capitalise on this opportunity. Rosalind also speaks to Kim Cameron, owner of The Gin Bothy about the 'pinch me' moment of being asked to contribute one of her gins to the gift bag. She also tells Rosalind the great story of how she went from jam making to gin making and how both businesses are reaping rewards. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Can the Church of England escape from the deadly grip of bishops and bureaucrats who spend their entire time genuflecting to the metropolitan Left? Why does Archbishop Justin Welby wade obsessively into secular political battles when his churches are emptying? And do worshippers realise that eye-watering sums of money are being siphoned off from their parishes in order to fund worthless exercises in social engineering? In this episode of Holy Smoke, the Rev Marcus Walker, Rector of St Bartholomew the Great in the City of London, reveals the scale of the crisis facing the Established Church. His analysis is devastating. Among the subjects he addresses is the cultural cringe that led Welby and gang to value the opinions of Paula Vennells, the disgraced former head of the Post Office who nearly became Bishop of London, over those of qualified theologians and parochial clergy. Under its current Rector, the ancient parish of St Bart's has become a beacon of hope for proud traditional Anglicans. Marcus tells me how he's reaching out to a new generation of Christians bored out of their minds by episcopal jargon – and also what he thinks of Pope Francis's attempt to crush the Latin Mass. It's a rollercoaster of an interview with one of the great clerics of our age. Don't miss it!

Come and join the conversation with Jenifer Rosenberg, founder of Heart Cells Foundation charity. Well, what an incredible chat with an even more incredible lady! Join me as I hear about Jenifer's amazing life, from starting out in the post room at M & S, becoming a fashion buyer, and eventually setting up her very own manufacturing company and ending up SUPPLYING M & S! We also chat about her amazing charity Heart Cells Foundation, which was founded by her late husband Ian, after he suffered heart failure in 2003. Jenifer talks me through the weeks that followed, having been not given a good prognosis and explaining exactly what heart failure is, and the science behind the words. A chance meeting with a cardiologist led Jenifer and Ian to discover a pioneering treatment that was taking place in Germany, and as she explains her husband was a "do it now" kind of gentleman, they jumped at the chance and travelled for the treatment, arriving in Germany shortly afterwards. Jenifer talks me through the amazing stem cell treatment, explaining exactly what happens and the incredible way that our very own stem cells are used to repair ourselves! Not having the issues of rejection like organ donation makes the treatment so successful. She calls them "magic cells" which is so wonderful and true! The success of the treatment gave Jenifer 3 more years with her beloved husband, something which they had been previously told was almost impossible. Having experienced the results first hand, Ian decided that they must launch a charity and enable more and more people's lives to be saved and give their families the gift of time with their loved ones. Heart Cells Foundation was born and has raised the money to successfully treat many patients at St Bart's hospital, and have finished two stages of clinical trials, with only Phase 3 remaining until stem cell treatment can be rolled out across the NHS and be accessible for all. Absolutely LOVED chatting to this phenomenal lady, such an interesting life, such an interesting lady and such a wonderful charity, and so so SO important. Check out Heart Cells Foundation website at https://www.heartcellsfoundation.com Have a look at some of their patients, honestly its unbelievable to see how many lives that the charity have changed, not only the patients but their families too. Thankyou so much Jenifer, amazing to talk to you
Former hedge fund manager Hugh Hendry is best known as the man who made 30% in 2008, when others crashed, including many so-called hedge funds. He described his cockroach mandate as being a survivor no matter what. He closed the fund in 2017 after a period of lackustre but far from shocking performance and has become a property developer and landlord of upmarket rentals on the billionaire favourite Caribbean hideaway of St Barths. But few owners of vacation lets could tell you what the 10 year bill has done in the last month, let alone give a coherent view of how it might move in 2022. Hugh may have retired but he has certainly not let go. He views the world through a different prism – he is like a photographer who only uses a fish-eye lens. We recorded on a cold London day and on St Bart's it was just as windy, as you may hear

Over the past year, the connections between our built environment and our health have been made clearer than ever before. In this episode we will be examining the changing way that societies through history have addressed these problems by building institutions that provide different forms of healthcare. Our contributors discussed what lessons we can learn from the history of architecture and health, considering the connections between the built environment and the treatment of different illnesses, maladies and afflictions. Ed DeVane, a PhD student in the Centre for the History of Medicine at the University of Warwick, who researches the planning, design, construction of NHS facilities in postwar Britain, and is also a fellow in the Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology. Ann-Marie Akehurst, an independent Architectural Historian and Programmes Officer of the Society of Architectural Historians of Great Britain, who works on Early Modern Architectural History, particularly the development of hospitals and the institutions of healthcare. Will Palin is the Chief Executive of Barts Heritage, a charity concerned with restoring the historic St Bart's Hospital, London, previously serving as the Conservation Director at the Old Royal Naval College, Greenwich and Director of SAVE Britain's Heritage.

Episode five and things are moving fast, or so it seems. But is active travel in the UK in a chicken and egg situation? The current government advice is "cycle or walk if you can" meaning more people than ever are interested; but two weeks later, apart from a few select councils, there's barely any infrastructure for the potentially huge increase of people on bikes, and traffic is returning. Councils claim they still don't even know how they will get their hands on the £250m emergency funding.Cycling advocates know that if you build it, they will come, but are councils building things quick enough? We'll explore a variety of things that need to happen very quickly if we are to realise the UK's golden age for cycling, speaking with Phillip Darnton, Chair of The Bicycle Association, Cllr Adam Clarke, Deputy Mayor of Leicester and Dr Jonathan Kelly from St Bart's NHS Trust. Ned also, for one day only, pretended he had a job and commuted into central London, bringing us with him.We hope you enjoy this episode of Streets Ahead, a podcast dedicated to the world of active travel, liveable streets and people-focused urban design. We're on Twitter and welcome your feedback on our episode: http://www.twitter.com/podstreetsahead Please rate and review us too! Thanks for listening! From Adam, Laura and Ned See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

As the early church grew in numbers, a problem arose which threatened church unity and future growth. The Hellenistic Jewish widows were not receiving assistance in the form of daily food distribution while the Hebraic Jewish widows were. This may have been caused by language and cultural differences or the distance that the Hellenistic widows lived from the rest of the congregation. Whatever the cause of the issue, and it was probably not deliberate, widows were extremely vulnerable because they could not, in most cases, support themselves and relied on external help to survive. The Twelve instructed the congregation to choose seven men to take over this responsibility, while the Twelve would concentrate on prayer and the ministry of the word. These seven needed to be full of the Spirit and wisdom (6:3). The decision-making process reflects important values for church order. The process was open and transparent as all the congregation were invited and attended the gathering. It was participatory, the congregation chose the seven while the Twelve would authorise them to minister, giving distinct roles for leaders and congregation. The proposed solution reveals the values that guided the decision: commitment to unity, to a holistic ministry and to growth by means of preaching and teaching. Unity is maintained by ensuring that all widows were treated equally. Luke stresses that this social ministry has equal validity with the apostles' ministry of prayer and teaching, for he uses diakonia to describe both. The church must exercise both, and neither to the exclusion of the other. We are reminded of the importance of pastoral care, prayer and the teaching of God’s word for the health, unity and growth of our congregation, and that these tasks may be shared amongst us so that no ministry is neglected. DRQuestionsHow does St Bart’s care for the vulnerable and empower its leaders? Why is prayer and the ministry of the Word so important for church growth?PrayerLord of all, as we seek to make disciples of Jesus Christ, make us mindful of the needs of the vulnerable in our midst. Help our leaders to ground the ministry of St Bart’s in prayer, and to be faithful in the teaching of your Word. Amen.
It’s amazing how one verse can be so profoundly challenging! Whilst I’m not particularly attached to ‘things’ or possessions, the idea of sharing everythingstill makes me nonetheless feel very uncomfortable. In fact, the entire way of living described here is almost the antithesis of our Australian culture which is shaped by a determined individualism. Sure, we might share our things with our immediate families or our closest friends, but this seems like an absolutely radical way to live! This community didn’t just share a few things, or some things, or where there was need - but they shared every thing! How far did they go? To the point to which they saw nothing as their own (i.e., “no one claimed that any of their possessions was their own”).Does this mean that we should rush out and setup a ‘commune’ for St Bart’s? No, not necessarilly. It’s important to note that whilst this group of believers lived in a very intimate community, that doesn’t mean that it’s prescriptive of how all Christians should live today. Indeed, whilst some of the very first Christians lived in this way, not all did (and that wasn’t necessarilly a bad thing!). Whilst we should absolutely be challenged by the sacrificial generosity displayed, what we should be even more profoundly shaped by is the reason they did it. They lived this way because all the believers were, “one in heart and mind”. Their unity in the Gospel and in the power of the Holy Spirit was so complete, that it didn’t just influence how they lived, but it completely shaped their lives together. ALQuestionsDoes the idea of sharing everything that you have challenge you? Why or why not do you think that this is the case?As brothers and sisters in Christ, how can we grow in oneness in the Gospel, so that it might continue to profoundly shape the way we live for God’s glory?PrayerHeavenly Father, we thank you for your profound generosity to us and that you have held nothing back from us, not even your Son. Please help us to live generously that we might bring great glory to your name. Please also help us, in the power of your Spirit, to be of one accord that the Gospel might completely shape our lives apart and together. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
