Welcome to the final episode of Spooktober Cinema! On this episode, the gang gets together to talk about random things, the news, and then we visit the Spooktober Cinema one last time to review DIARY OF THE DEAD!
PotLZ 4-1 We start off this year by reviewing the Penultimate Romero zombie film where George experiments with the found footage format. Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Kyle-and-Codys-Cult-Cinema-Cast-100757291566807/ YouTube Art by Audra Balion Music:https://www.royaltyfree-music.com/
After beginning a new zombie trilogy with Land of the Dead, and laying the seeds for the next, George Romero decided for his next entry to...reboot everything. Diary of the Dead is Romero's first and only foray into the Found Footage genre, set during the beginning of a new zombie outbreak, and featuring a cast of college students. It features a road trip, an Amish man armed with dynamite, and plenty of philosophizing about the effects of the internet on society...but is it worth the watch?
Continuing our discussion of "found footage zombies" with this gem. As usual, listener discretion is advised.
We are back for that most magical time of the year. Spooky season. Autumn. October. Halloween. HALLOWEEN HUMPFEST 2! Every weekday all October we discuss a different horror movie discussion and we will have even more horror to discuss than last year because we're bookending the month with TWO movie review 6-Pack episodes in which we discuss 6 movies within a franchise or genre within a specific time limit for each movie. It's often where our lowest rated movies rear their heads and while that is no exception in today's episode, the good well outweighs the bad because we're discussing zombie fare from the master of the zombie movie, George A. Romero. A beloved horror icon and we have no less respect for the man because he invented a modern horror trope in such a way that no matter what you do if you decide to make your own zombie movie, you're always going to be ripping off George at least a little bit. A classic zombie gorefest? Commentaries on race, consumerism and class? Black lead actors surviving in horror? Funny zombie movies? George did it all and we discuss four decades of Romero zombie horror with the inventive “NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD” from 1968, the iconic “DAWN OF THE DEAD” from 1978, the brutal “DAY OF THE DEAD” from 1985, the zombie revolution of “LAND OF THE DEAD” from 2005, the wobbly “DIARY OF THE DEAD” from 2007 and the baffling “SURVIVAL OF THE DEAD” from 2009. We only got six minutes to discuss each one and you better believe we ignore that limitation well into the episode. We had fun. One thing that George Romero will always give you is a gory good time. But seriously, why does that professor know his way around so many weapons? In this episode we discuss the downfall of civilization as told through the lens of Romero's camera. We also talk about how big Romero was, if we would want to be zombies, and the overall aesthetic of a mob boss' house. www.franchisefrightspodcast.com

I bet you didn't know George Romero made a god dang found footage film. Yeah. We didn't either! This week, we're joined by horror experts and new friends Sean Parker and Steve Goldberg of the Mostly Horror podcast to unpack the incredibly daring (and bizarre) late-career zombie thriller, DIARY OF THE DEAD. "You want to put some kind of explanation down here before you leave? Here's one as good as any you're likely to find: We're being punished by the Creator. He visited a curse on us. So man could look at...what Hell was like. Maybe he didn't want to see us blow ourselves up, put a big hole in the sky. Maybe he just wanted to show us he's still boss man. Maybe he figure we getting too big for our britches, tryin to figure his shit out."It's the Gone With The Wind of zombie movies, Okay? It's 1985's Day of the Dead!
Nez back with the 2007 George A. Romero film DIARY OF THE DEAD. The dead are returning to life to feast on the flesh of the living. As civilization dissolves in this nightmare scenario, a group of college students travel across Pennsylvania in hopes of finding refuge at their friend's secluded mansion. Film student Jason (Joshua Close), tapes their journey, and the movie is presented as his footage. Patrik och Fredrik har äntligen nått slutet på Romero-franchisen och avslutar med två filmer som inte riktigt visar kvalité enligt dem båda. Den största skräcken i detta avsnittet kommer mitt i, lyssna så förstår ni! Diary of The Dead (2007) Är det domedagen? We're almost done! Diary of the Dead is a 2007 American found-footage Horror film written and directed by George A. Romero, and is the fifth installment of his “of the Dead” series. This film focuses on a group of college students attempting to navigate their way through the early days of the zombie apocalypse and document their journey as it unfolds, meaning that the events in this movie are happening concurrently to those in Night of the Living Dead. It took George A. Romero 20 years to make a new Living Dead film after 1985's Day of the Dead, but after the 2005 release of Land of the Dead it would be a scant 2 years until his next installment in the series. And Diary of the Dead wasn't just a new Living Dead film - it was Romero's first foray into the style of found footage. How does Diary, a film released in the same era as Cloverfield and [REC], hold up after almost 15 years? Is this a worthy installment in one of the most beloved horror film series of all time, or had Romero run out of things to say about the living dead by the late 2000s? Join us as we dissect the characters, plot, acting, and filmmaking of the 5th Living Dead film!

Hosts Mat Bradley-Tschirgi, Thrasher, and Alex Miller discuss Diary of the Dead. Zombies meet their most feared foe: the shaky cam! A misguided attempt to loop George A. Romero's zombie series into the found footage genre made famous by The Blair Witch Project, Diary of the Dead is a low budget uninspired entry. Characters and the story are a bit flat. There are some interesting visuals here and there, Scott Wentworth isn't bad as the old man in the group, and Romero seems to be having fun returning to his low budget roots. The whole affair is melodramatic and dumb. Some diaries were meant to be unopen, and Diary of the Dead is no exception. The Angry Video Game Nerd said it best, "not everything your idol does is gold". That is an understatement. I am not sure if this movie was really needed. It goes back to the start of the zombie outbreak, and to me cannot really be considered a part of the first four films. It is more like a reboot. A very poor attempt to connect with the internet generation. It is also the first time in the series where the characters are not adults. They are either high school or college students. I am not really sure. But they are not really frightened of the zombie outbreak but are concerned with filming it, while making silly remarks in response to the danger. The found footage gimmick does not really work as the footage is not found. It is filmed with the purpose of releasing it to the public. Which does not make sense as it is a global outbreak so people would be well aware of what was happening. I am sure that if the dead rise from their graves we will not be taking time out to watch a student film with narration to figure everything out. When the evening news lady gets eaten by a corpse on television, I think most people would go into panic mode and probably give social media a rest. We had high hopes for this one as the concept was promising, but it just fell flat. Romero's obsession with the internet continued in Survival of the Dead where people were still online and posting youtube videos well after the world had collapsed. Not sure how it remained online but hey, it's only a movie. Won't you join us in the Bird Hole as we discuss this gem and other pressing topics?
George A Romero's fifth zombie film mixes concerns about the mainstream media, the raise of internet media as a source of truth and general distrust of authority.

Following the release of the massive Land Of The Dead, renowned godfather of the genre George Romero moved towards a minimalistic approach to the zombie film with a scathing look at the obsessive wave of social media documentation and a cultural obsession for information. The result was a haunting look at the end of the world through the lens of its content consumed creators. On February 15th, 2008 George A. Romero’s DIARY OF THE DEAD was released. Daring audiences not to look away
Featuring Al White, Christina Masterson, and Haruka Abe. Welcome to the We Are GEEKS Presents: Romero's Living Dead retrospective podcast from We Are Tessellate. Every Friday we'll be covering a new installment in the classic horror franchise. Warning: This podcast contains heavy language and spoilers throughout.
Sometimes, you should stop while you're still ahead, and other times, you should just start over. It's rare that a filmmaker does both simultaneously - in this instance, it led to one of Clay's favorite "... of the Dead" zombie flicks: Diary of the Dead! George A Romero's handheld approach to this fresh look at his classic world of blood and gore was pretty well received by fans and critics alike. With some clever editing and some very key real-world footage from the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and 9/11, Romero again proves himself a very capable storyteller with his 2007 release.
After the zombie apocalypse begins, Paul and Corey try to escape the horde of undead murders by... making a documentary about it?! Well, no one ever said they were smart. Christian and Ian have spent so much time talking about zombies that it's time they look around, look around at how lucky they are to be alive right now. We continue our Overkill series in which we will be discussing the movies in George Romero's "Dead" franchise. During each episode we will answer the question- are we still in on this franchise or is it overkill? For this episode we stumble into the recording studio and attempt to break down Romero's found footage debut, DIARY OF THE DEAD. There are tangents-a-plenty so we also discuss hiding in Ikea furniture, the cancer reducing effects of blueberries, and reading other people's diaries. We'd love to hear your thoughts, questions, or any requests you have. You can contact us at: ItsOnlyFeedback@gmail.com and Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Letterboxd.

This week Reanimated goes after realism with two similar zombie films, The Zombie Diaries and Diary of the Dead. Sadly, neither realism, nor good film-making were anywhere to be found. Stuart and H.A. also dug through some zombie news! Hurray!

Cj is afraid of Fear Itself. Diary of the Dead vs. Cloverfield: Look at the sky flowers, Rob. We dare you to go on and break a sweat. Are there hidden undertones in the cinematic masterpiece, Little Monsters? Could Cronenberg or Aronofsky make the Ninja Turtles relevant? What's better: DuckTales or Looney Tunes to the XTREME?!
