Hello, darkness, my old friend[^1]. That's what he said as he walked into the office for the first time. I was sitting in the morning sun[^2], feeling a bit out of place in the new environment. He introduced himself with, "This is a story of a girl"[^3], though obviously not about him. We laughed, and I thought, "Once upon a time, not so long ago"[^4], two strangers started their journey. We quickly found common ground. He said, "Come gather 'round people, wherever you roam"[^5]. I nodded and replied, "I was working part-time in a five-and-dime"[^6]. From that day, we became fast friends. He had a way of saying, "Oh, what a night"[^7], no matter how the day went. Every morning, he greeted me with, "It's a beautiful day"[^8]. Together, we faced the corporate grind, believing that with a little help from my friends[^9], we could get through anything. One afternoon, he turned to me and said, "You can't always get what you want"[^10]. We laughed, agreeing that, "Here comes the sun"[^11], always brightened the darkest times. As time passed, we started hanging out after work. He'd often say, "Hey Jude, don't make it bad"[^12], whenever I was down. In return, I'd remind him, "Lean on me, when you're not strong"[^13], and he did. We shared countless memories, from late-night talks to weekend adventures. I remember, "It's been a long day without you, my friend"[^14], when he was on vacation, but we always reconnected like no time had passed. One evening, as we sat by the fire, he said, "If you're lost, you can look and you will find me"[^15]. I smiled and replied, "This will be our year, took a long time to come"[^16]. Our friendship was unbreakable. Years turned into decades, and even as life changed, our bond remained strong. He once said, "We've only just begun to live"[^17], and I knew he was right. In the end, "The love you take is equal to the love you make"[^18]. --- [^1]: The Sound of Silence by Simon & Garfunkel [^2]: Dock of the Bay by Otis Redding [^3]: Absolutely (Story of a Girl) by Nine Days [^4]: Livin' on a Prayer by Bon Jovi [^5]: The Times They Are A-Changin' by Bob Dylan [^6]: Raspberry Beret by Prince [^7]: December, 1963 (Oh, What a Night) by The Four Seasons [^8]: Beautiful Day by U2 [^9]: With a Little Help from My Friends by The Beatles [^10]: You Can't Always Get What You Want by The Rolling Stones [^11]: Here Comes the Sun by The Beatles [^12]: Hey Jude by The Beatles [^13]: Lean on Me by Bill Withers [^14]: See You Again by Wiz Khalifa ft. On this week's episode we are joined by Colin Blunstone, Colin is an English singer, songwriter, and musician. He started his career in 1962 while still in school as a singer and founding member of The Zombies where he remained until the band split in 1968. The group had British and American hits with "She's Not There" and "Tell Her No". Shortly before the band split, they released their masterpiece, Odessey and Oracle, featuring the mega-hit “Time of the Season” and the beautiful "This Will Be Our Year”, with the album being credited by many musicians as the best of that decade. In 1971 Colin released his debut solo album "One Year” which was co-produced and partly co-written by The Zombies co-founder Rod Argent. Hits such as "Say You Don't Mind", "Caroline Goodbye" and the haunting "Old and Wise" recorded with Alan Parsons Project, would follow. By the start of the new Millennium, Blunstone and Argent were inspired to resurrect The Zombies, which has led to several critically acclaimed new albums including the 2023 release "Different Game" which has been met with very positive reviews. A special thanks to Sacha at Hush PR for arranging the interview. Let Christy Take It are proud to bring you Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Colin Blunstone. We're back, baby! After a longer than expected hiatus, Gobbledygeek has returned for season 14. That's right, we're up to 14 seasons of Paul and Arlo babbling on about any manner of nonsense–which they continue to do in this freestyle season premiere. 2023 has come in like a lion and is likely to go out like one, so we find our boys licking their wounds, recounting the real-life horrors that delayed their return to the mic, and generally complaining about everything. Including pop culture! Lest you forget that's what they're here for, Paul and Arlo sauté some thoughts on the mushroom apocalypse of HBO's The Last of Us adaptation; rave about the movies they've caught up with, like The Fabelmans, RRR, and Aftersun; and decide to get high-brow by reading books that don't have any pictures. Plus, a pitch for the inevitable Gobbledygeek TV series. NEXT: okay, but we really like books that do have pictures in them. This year's Four-Color Flashback series kicks off with Al Ewing and Simone Di Meo's We Only Find Them When They're Dead. MUSIC “At Last” by Etta James, At Last! This week we meet up with Scott Ayotte from the ground breaking rock band BORN WITHOUT BONES out of Milford, MA. Scott has taken a very personal approach to his song writing, as he writes from a dairy of experiences and circumstances. Scott's travel through the musical hemisphere has provided him with the opportunity to perform with and for some of his greatest influences. Scott is not bashful in his discussion with me about his life and the music that he surrounds himself with. With many new and exciting things happening for Scott and the band, it was a great chance to bring their talents to the forefront. Join Scott and I as we do not "Shy" away from discussing "Romance" and "What I Was Missing."BORN WITHOUT BONES - "This Will Be Our Year" New Single OUT NOW!!!!!!!

Kari connects Chris with his friend Terry as well as his mother, while his aunt also makes a brief appearance, as they talk about the healing quality of his new song "I Danced the Dance" and his catalyst for it after working with friend Matthew Fisher of Procol Harum, the hopeful feeling of "This Will Be Our Year" from The Zombie's iconic 1968 album "Odessey and Oracle," being a channel for the music and being a believer in allowing his musical antenna to be open to it from the Other Side, being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the time he met Don McLean at an airport, and inspirations for music, such as bird songs.
“The Fringe” premiered on March 12, 2013. It was written by Julia Brownell, and directed by Dan Lerner, two more newcomers to the Smash family. The viewership was up this week! Up 220,000 from the previous episode, “The Fringe” was seen by 2.9 million viewers. We saw three songs and a reprise this week: one of which was a cover of “This Will Be Our Year” by The Zombies, sung by the Hit List cast. The other two and a half were original songs from all three of our musicals! Marc Shaiman and Scott Whitman delivered us a reprise of “Never Give All the Heart” from Bombshell, and a Glitter-and-Be-Gay inspired number from Liaisons called “A Letter From Cecile.” Lastly, from Hit List we got a new song called “Heart Shaped Wreckage,” written by Julian Emery, Jon Green, James Lawrence Irvin, and Lucie Silvas. Hit List has booked a spot in the Winter Fringe after all! It’s only two presentations in shoebox, but Jimmy is convinced Hit List is good enough to outshine the venue. Which is good because the show gets picked up by Time Out and “a bunch of theatre people RSVP’d!” Back at Bombshell, Eileen has decided to produce the dynamic, technicolor fantasy that Tom and Jerry prefer, much to the schgrin of Julia and Derek. Karen is all lined up to star in Hit List, but Jerry can’t be “introducing Karen Cartwright” if she’s already been introduced at the Winter Fringe, which leaves Jimmy, Kyle and the rest of the Fringe crew understandingly ticked off about Karen’s backing out. At a coffee klatch in Madison Square Park, Ivy tells Derek that Terry Falls continues to derail Liaisons into a farce. But he replies that standing out as good in a bad show is a time-honored theatre tradition and to follow her instinct. She spices up the production’s press preview by adding her own brand of humor, but her good work threatens Terry Falls. Only in an 11th hour company meeting does Terry have the balls to invite the company to Bombshell’s new producer Jerry Rand continues to meddle with Julia’s script, suggesting they cut the intellectual downer of a song “Never Give All The Heart.” He and Eileen give Tom a challenge: change it into an uplifting song that makes them feel something in the next 24 hours. The composer puts a new spin on the song, making it a cautionary tale, empowered instead of wistful. But Tom’s direction puts Derek over the edge, quitting the show and storming out of rehearsal. And Eileen loves the work enough to crown Tom Bombshell’s new director. Derek’s departure from Hit List frees up Karen to perform in the second night of Hit List at the fringe, as well as making him available to watch her in it. Derek is taken by the show and the performances of both Karen and Jimmy. Scott Nichols, artistic director at Manhattan Theatre Workshop says the show is actually the kind of project he is looking for. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

** A THIRD STUNNING COLLECTION OF NEW RECORDINGS FROM HALL OF FAME INDUCTEE **This year (2019) The Zombies were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in a British invasion alongside Radiohead and The Cure. On stage with the rest of the band was Chris White; the man who co-produced and wrote more than half of the seminal Odessey & Oracle album, who composed (the now standard) This Will Be Our Year and who penned and co-produced the worldwide hit Hold Your Head Up for Argent. His acceptance speech from the night, widely quoted in Rolling Stone, beautifully summarised the golden age of recording: “Music and songs are the bookmarks in all our lives, it’s the language that binds us all together”. The Chris White Experience is an incredible collection of unreleased recordings from the last 50 years. After The Zombies, Chris White produced records for a number of diverse artists (Colin Blunstone, Argent, Marti Caine, Doris Troy, Matthew Fisher, Duffy Power, and others) with more sessions (Diana Dors, Dire Straits, Charlie Dore) filled with unreleased material. The popularity of his songwriting has been celebrated by various artists (Beck, Paul Weller, Tom Petty, The Foo Fighters) recorded in a number of languages, and reached number one worldwide (Japan, Europe, and America). This collection of demos, co-writes, and unreleased gems is the third in an acclaimed series detailing his work as a songwriter and producer between 1969-2019.Most of these songs have never been heard, with Volume Three spanning half a century from an unreleased 1969 Zombies demo, right up to an October 2019 recording from Et Tu Brucé. With collaborations featuring Rod Argent and Colin Blunstone (Unhappy Girl) and London band Et Tu Brucé (Can’t Seem To Fall In Love) as well as performances from Joe Lee Wilson (Archie Shepp) Russ Ballard (Argent) Stuart Elliott (Cockney Rebel, Kate Bush) and many more. Following on from the much-celebrated Volumes One and Two, it is a brilliant and vital document in the history of British music and analogue recording. The Chris White Experience - Volume Three features 13 tracks to showcase more of his considerable songwriting catalogue, with so much beyond to discover. There are three further albums to be released in 2020. In this show, host Tamara Berg breaks down the episode "The Fringe" in which things are tumultuous behind the scenes at "Bombshell" rehearsals. Derek is clearly annoyed by Eileen and Jerry and Tom's creative takeover of the show. Jerry is butchering the artistic merit of the production, favoring outlandish set pieces - like a plane - over the subtle nuances of performance. And it's driving Derek and Julia mad. Elsewhere, Karen takes advantage of her day off by helping Jimmy and Kyle set up at The Fringe Festival. The room is cramped, but Jimmy is optimistic, so much so, that he breaks into "This Will Be Our Year" by The Zombies. Before he can finish the song, a tech bursts in and tells them to keep it down - there's a performance going on upstairs. Karen goes back to "Bombshell" rehearsals.
