Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees and “British Invasion” pioneers, The Zombies, todayannounce the release of Odessey & Oracle Mono Remastered on September 26th. The album, thefirst of four definitive physical reissues from their catalog, includes the classic songs “Time OfThe Season,” “Care of Cell 44,” and “This Will Be Our Year” and is a regular entry in “BestAlbums of All Time” lists in publications like Rolling Stone, NME, and Mojo Magazine. Therelease, which coincides with The Zombies' documentary, Hung Up On A Dream, marks the firsttime the band's original mono mix, remastered from studio tapes, has appeared on LP since therecord's British issue in 1968, presenting the album as they originally intended it to be heard.Pre-order the album on all formats here.Recorded primarily at London's legendary Abbey Road Studios in 1967, Odessey & Oracle wasself-produced in Mono on a shoestring budget by primary songwriters Rod Argent (keyboards/vocals) and Chris White (bass/vocals). Under last-minute pressure from their record label, thealbum was hastily remixed in the newly emerging Stereo format, which sacrificed key elementsfrom the Mono recording, most notably the beloved horn parts in “This Will Be Our Year”.The band today also share the first track off the album, the mono remastered version of “ThisWill Be Our Year”, with the horn parts restored. Although never released as a single, this deepcut has found a new life thanks to prominent uses in TV and film, including memorable scenes inMad Men, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, and Schitt's Creek, and covers by artists like FooFighters, OK Go and Susanna Hoffs. Its positive and uplifting message has been embraced bycouples as a popular wedding song, and become a staple of New Year's playlists. Listen here. The album also includes new liner notes from famed writer, David Fricke. Read an excerptbelow:Odessey and Oracle is very much of and about its time: songs of youth and love – thelucky strike of attraction ("I Want Her She Wants Me"); flickering memories held tight("Brief Candles"); longing that defies the odds ("Maybe After He's Gone") – from pop'shigh season of amour, a crowded nirvana of landmark debuts (Pink Floyd, the Doors, theJimi Hendrix Experience) and definitive accounts of Britain's psychedelic bloom…Thisalbum was also built to stand the test of time, at the 11th hour by a band with everythingto prove. "We were always dissatisfied with the production of our records," Argent said in1971 of the Zombies' Decca work. "We wanted to produce an album before we broke upto satisfy ourselves." The result was a fearlessness that still rings fresh, that inventiondriven by the Zombies' stringent resources and their confidence in the songs. Most of "ARose for Emily" is simply piano and vocal, an Argent-Blunstone duet with streaks ofchoral sigh.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-unplugged-totally-uncut--994165/support.

In 1994, having left Iron Maiden for a time (he rejoined in 1999), Bruce Dickinson released his second solo album, entitled Balls To Picasso. Named in honour of the cubist pioneer whose representations of spherical objects were as squares and reflected on the cover in graffiti style on a tiled bathroom wall, the album belied its irreverent title by solidifying Dickinson's reputation as a serious solo artist. His first record with collaborator Roy Z, produced by Shay Baby and recorded with Z's band Tribe Of Gypsies, it went through various iterations before its release. The original album included a number of classic tracks and live favourites from Dickinson including the singles "Tears Of The Dragon" and "Shoot All The Clowns," alongside the much-loved epic "Laughing In The Hiding Bush," which was the original title for the album.Yet despite its positive reception at the time, it never quite captured Dickinson's original vision which was even more expansive in scope and ambition. However, with the ability to revisit his solo catalog - and following on from Dickinson's hugely acclaimed album The Mandrake Project in 2024 - the brand-new part re-recorded, remixed and newly mastered version of the album, now entitled More Balls To Picasso, reimagines it as a fresh and contemporary release.Dickinson says of it, "While mixing all my catalogue into Dolby Atmos I had a nagging desire to revisit and reinvent the record. So putting more balls into 'Balls.' was a labour of love. Of course, we beefed up the guitars - courtesy of our 'Swedish shredder' Philip Naslund and we added some really beautiful work by Adassi Addasi on 'Tears.' as well. Fellow Brazilian composer Antonio Teoli added some stunning orchestral arrangements, and in a unique contribution, added indigenous instruments from the Amazon (recorded by himself when he lived there!) at the beginning of 'Gods Of War'."'Shoot All The Clowns' gets the benefit of a horn section fronted by the Berklee College of Music, and all of the record gets the benefit of the mix by Brendan Duffey, (who worked on The Mandrake Project), with notes along the way from Shay Baby, the original father of the album".Additionally, More Balls To Picasso includes two previously unreleased live in-the-studio tracks, 'Gods of War' and "Shoot All the Clowns." It will be available as a splatter vinyl double album and tri-panel digisleeve CD album.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

For this episode, number 87 I spoke to The British Film Institute's Remastering and Technical lead Douglas Weir. Doug had recently introduced a screening of Jaws at the BFI back in June of this year. It wasn't just any old print of Jaws, it was a near pristine dye transfer print that a colleague of Doug's found in the archive. After the screening which was amazing, I contacted Doug to see if he'd come on the podcast to talk about that print and about his career at BFI. It turns out he is already a listener of the podcast and was very keen to chat. So Doug invited me up to the southbank based BFI and along with his colleague, I got a back stage tour, checking out all the old projectors and film reels (I've posted some photos on the filmumentaries Instagram page). Doug and I then sat down for an hour for a chat, covering a multitude of topics including Jaws, the limits of restoration from both a techinical POV as well as what should be restored Vs what can be achieved.I hope you enjoy it.All the links! This show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/5530733/advertisement

In this encore episode of The Schmidt List from 2018, I interview David Hussman, founder of DevJam, speaker, author, and software development expert. As I look back on my past 200+ episodes, I can't help but feel a sense of joy and nostalgia. Remastering some of my favorite episodes has been an absolute pleasure, and I'm excited to share them with all of you. It's fascinating to see how much has remained the same in software development since this episode (No.016) was published in 2018. It's a great reminder of the timeless principles that guide our work.During our discussion, we discussed the changes in software development that have taken place in the last 20 years and what direction it is going towards, specifically regarding the transition from project-centered to product-centered development. David provided valuable advice on coaching teams to adopt a product-focused approach, especially in larger companies. Highlights:Analyzing and presenting data visually can help teams discover new trends. This approach makes it easier to spot trends and can inspire fresh ideas.Value-aligning teams with customer impact and encouraging developers to interact with customers to understand their needs better.Don't rely solely on technological advances or the competition's roadmap for product improvement ideas. To optimize productivity and minimize handoffs prioritize teamwork.Executives should encourage knowledge-sharing and take responsibility for desired behavior.Executives should encourage and motivate teams to communicate.Communication is vital in software development, especially in large organizations with siloed teams.Customer journey mapping and impact-driven development can help understand the effect of features and investments.According to David, as a technology or design leader, admitting mistakes is the most crucial characteristic. It's essential to be transparent and accountable for your actions; this willingness to take responsibility can inspire trust and respect from your team. So, feel free to own up to your mistakes and work towards finding solutions. It's all part of being a strong and effective leader.I feel incredibly fortunate to have crossed paths with David, as I gained a great deal of knowledge from him in the short time I spent with him, and I will always cherish the lessons he imparted to me.
