The Weather Girls are an American female duo whose best-known line-up comprised Martha Wash and Izora Armstead. Formed in 1976 in San Francisco, California, The Weather Girls members began their musical career as Two Tons O' Fun, the female backup duo for disco singer Sylvester. After years of limited success singing background for Sylvester, the duo was signed in 1979 to Fantasy Records. The Weather Girls were launched into mainstream recognition following the release of their best-selling single, "It's Raining Men" (1982), which became their first number-one dance song. Despite critical and commercial success, the duo struggled to repeat the success of "It's Raining Men" and ultimately disbanded after the release of their self-titled fifth album The Weather Girls in 1988. In 1991, Armstead reformed the duo with her daughter Dynelle Rhodes. Over the course of a decade, the duo released three albums: Double Tons of Fun (1993), Think Big!, and Puttin' On The Hits (1999). In 2004, Armstead died and was replaced with Ingrid Arthur in 2005. Following the release of two albums Totally Wild! (2005) and The Woman I Am (2009), Arthur left the group and was replaced with Dorrey Lin Lyles in 2012. The group received a Grammy Award nomination for Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal in 1983.[4] Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Today I'm joined by a face many of you will know and love as I have since childhood, Dr Katrina Warren, an Aussie vet (along with her golden retriever Riley who had a great stare-off with Paul during the chat). You probably know Dr Katrina from Totally Wild or Harry's Practice or even Animal Planet or Dancing with the Stars, and I'm sure she's responsible for so many people's love for animals. As the only person I know of who did sheep husbandry for their HSC, Dr Katrina is a qualified vet but didn't take the conventional private practice pathway going into the media instead (with a fashion modelling career in Japan in the mix photos of which she has graciously shared with me for us to enjoy in the Facebook group!) She's definitely not the first guest who ended up seizing a yay they wouldn't have imagined in a million years, but she's possibly the first who's openly discussed the come down and disorientation of that yay abruptly ending pushing her to re-craft her identity and start her next chapter, which she's now in the swing of and enjoying thoroughly with Wonderdogs, as a Snooza ambassador and so much more. Paul also interrupts a few times to chat with Riley about his opinion on the beautiful Snooza beds they both have now – the woes of working from home! Enjoy! + Follow Dr Katrina here + Announcements on Insta at @spoonful_of_sarah + Join our Facebook community here + Subscribe to not miss out on the next instalment of YAY!

Remember the days when after-school TV was appointment viewing? You'd race home, try to knock out your homework as quickly as possible, and switch on for cartoons, magazine shows like The Big Arvo or The Shak, or even a hit of Totally Wild. Then you'd try to squeeze in as much as possible before dinnertime.Well, Australian children's programming on commercial television is under threat more than ever. Each TV network is required by law to produce a certain quota of TV for kids, but in recent years, it's been buried in obscure time-slots on multi-channels like 7TWO, 10Peach, and 9GO!. And earlier this year, some networks asked to have the quotas scrapped due to the amount of content on streaming services, and the high cost of production involved in local programming.Joining me on the podcast this week is a man who hosted some children's shows on the Seven Network in the early 1990s, when the genre was highly valued. James Sherry was one of the original hosts of long-running cartoon block Saturday Disney, and then hosted one of the best kid's game shows ever created, A*mazing. We reflected on the popularity of the shows, our common history working on Saturday Disney, and whether the call to scrap quotas is a good thing or not.James Sherry is on Twitter @thejamessherry.The article referenced in this podcast is ‘Broadcasters, producers at loggerheads over children's content quotas’ by Karl Quinn and Zoe Samios at Sydney Morning Herald.Since this episode was recorded, due to COVID-19, the Australian government has scrapped quotas on Drama, Documentary and Children's television for the remainder of 2020. Seven dropped their daily children's block immediately in favour of re-runs of old episodes of Auction Squad and Harry's Practice. Alex Dyson takes you deep inside AFL HQ to catch up with the effervescent Amberley Lobo. You might know her if you watched ABC3 at any point growing up, or if you were arrested in Perth in 2007 by a smiley teenager as she was also a rookie cop at one point and to be honest I'm still trying to wrap my head around it.
When former Australian Stinger Patrice Minton (nee O'Neill) hung up her water polo cap, she dove straight into a career with animals. With stints at the world famous Australia Zoo and Sydney Wildlife Zoo as a penguin trainer and koala handler, Patrice has enough hilarious stories and extraordinary Instagram photos to fill a book (one that we would most definitely buy). More recently, Patty has combined her passion for the ocean and her passion for animals by taking people free diving with seals.Patrice’s story is another great example of someone in the water polo community turning their talent in elite sport towards a new passion and excelling – as well as someone who is trying to be a force for good and making the world a better place.________________________CHECK THIS STUFF OUT:Follow Patrice on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/pa77y/Take 3 For The Sea: https://www.take3.org/Australia Zoo: https://www.australiazoo.com.au/Treading Water Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/265479804332662Beach Water Polo Fours Instagram: www.instagram.com/beachwaterpolofours/
My guest today is journalist, author and documentary filmmaker Kale Brock. Kale cut his teeth in the media landscape as a teenage presenter on the TV series Totally Wild - AKA my childhood dream job. This year has seen Kale tour the country to promote his feature-length documentary The Gut Movie, a cinematic and widely accessible investigation into how our gut health can influence everything from our immunity to our happiness. Kale is my favourite kind of creative. He is a renaissance man with a can-do attitude; researching, writing, presenting and shooting content that has filled two published books (and counting) as well as a steady stream of short film, podcast, vlog and blog content that has filled his channels to the point that has carved out a niche as the distinct voice in the gut health space - which is one of the fastest growing areas of health and wellness. If 'Quit Your day Job is a philosophy then Kale is living it: the perfect example of what happens when you marry what you love to do with what you are good at with the change you want to see in the world. As in my own story, it was an ill-fitting corporate job that gave him the ‘dark night of the soul’ which encouraged his first great leap towards quitting his day job and moving towards a lifestyle in which he could define his own hours, work on his own terms, establish a passive income stream and most importantly create work that he believes in.
