The conversation revolves around the Religious Trauma Collective, a group formed by Jane Kennedy, Samantha Sellers and Elise Heerde. They discuss the importance of recognising and addressing religious trauma, the context of this issue in Australia and New Zealand, and the differences between healthy and unhealthy religious environments. The Collective aims to provide resources, support, and community for those affected by religious trauma. In this conversation, the group explore the complexities of community, the importance of diversity in faith spaces, and the nuances of navigating online influences and deconstruction. They discuss the journey of healing from religious trauma, the balance between public and private healing, and the significance of therapy in this space.Learn more here: https://www.thereligioustraumacollective.com/Want to reach out and let us know your thoughts or suggestions for the show? In this episode of "The Pipelines" series, we meet Jane Kennedy. While she is now a religious trauma therapist and co-founder of the Religious Trauma Collective in Australia (which compiles resources and religious trauma-informed therapists for those of us who are recovering), she was once a youth leader and church planter. In this episode, Jane and I talk about some of the big themes that have emerged in her walk into and out of church, and the things that pop up in therapy a lot: from white saviourism, to dissociation, body awareness, "the father heart of God" and other recruitment tactics. Jane's calm presence and hard-won wisdom makes this episode a lot more relaxing than it could be! Episode 90: This episode is a follow-up to our previous episode (89) about navigating relationships post-deconstruction, and this time Shane Meyer-Holt does the interviewing! He talks here with Jane Kennedy (a counsellor who works in the field of religious trauma) about the gender and power dynamics that are at play within high-demand/high-control religious communities, and in particular she reflects on the ways in which patriarchal systems - both explicitly and implicitly - impact on what it means for women to find authenticity, to take up space in the world, and to negotiate through the complexity of friendships and relationships after faith change. Contact: feedback@intheshift.com Support: www.patreon.com/intheshift ------- Jane Kennedy is a Sydney based Counsellor working on Wan-Gal land. She has lived experience of religious trauma and works with people as they go through faith transitions, leave church and/or God. This experience, still frequently misunderstood, can be life-altering. She brings language and framing for the complexities of religious trauma to the counselling space and works with other Australian therapists to broaden knowledge among those working with affected clients. Jane has written her story, an e-book, The Sentimental Non-Believer, on Loving & Leaving God. Her mini-course, What I Wish My Therapist Knew About Religious Trauma, is a resource for therapists. A new course, Freedom from Religious Trauma, for those with lived experience will be available in 2024. With much of her career spent in the International Aid & Development sector, Jane has a special interest in trauma-informed programming and the mental health of practitioners. Jane continues to work in this space with agency teams, navigating the impact of saviourism and vicarious trauma using radical self and collective care models. Jane has two completely delightful adult kids, and lives with two demanding rescue cats and a cyclist who all wake her before 5 most mornings." https://janekennedycounselling.com.au/

Sam Newman, Mike Sheahan and Don Scott - 'You Cannot Be Serious'
Q: What is The Bonobo Gene? A: A theory linking men's propensity for dumb (aka funny) behaviour to a breed of African apes. Sharing 98% DNA with a sex and violence-crazed primate might be a bit of a stretch ... but in this laugh-out-loud, intriguing and informative new release, author Steve Marshall makes the link, backed up by research, anecdotes, tall stories and a Blokes' Hall of Shame. Steve is well-placed to guide readers on this journey into the male brain, having lived and seen it all as a script writer, TV producer, radio performer, podcaster, small business owner, mate, husband and dad. Like men themselves, The Bonobo Gene as a book evolved over time. It's the culmination of two years of research with academics, business leaders, entertainers, sports stars, friends and family. The book's chapters explore different theories and ideas seeking to explain why men are the way they are. In deep diving on men and the male appendage, the book skillfully balances the funny and serious. Steve provides insights into some of our best known and most loved sporting heroes and rock stars, toxic masculinity, #Metoo, the Hollywood casting couch. The Bonobo Gene is available now at all good bookstores or www.wilkinsonpublishing.com.au About the author (and his alter-ego, Sergio Paradise): The stories Steve Marshall can and will tell you. A veteran media performer and creator, Steve has worked with some of the biggest names in Australian entertainment and the sporting world. He has worked as a producer on a host of hit shows across TV and radio- Sale of the Century, The Grill Team, The Footy Show - to name just a few. Steve has done it all. The Bonobo Gene is his first book but it very much draws on his wealth experience in the entertainment industry over the last few decades. Steve isn't afraid to share his bonobo gene moments and have a laugh in the process. In 1994, when Triple M Radio green lit the Saturday morning show, "The Grill Team", the show's three stars, Eddie McGuire, Jane Kennedy and Trevor Marmalade asked Marshall, who was Trev's ex-housemate, to be the show's resident showbiz and gossip correspondent. "Ëveryone knows you work at Channel 9, so think of a stupid name for yourself", said Eddie. So Steve unashamedly stole the name from a former D-List Melbourne cabaret singer by the name of Sergio Paradise who still boasts a place in the record collection of Santo Cilauro. Marshall expected this to last a month at best before getting axed, but in 2023 he is still appearing round the traps under that moniker. Since The Grill Team finished, Serge has been on Radio SEN ("Ralphy, Serge & The Big Man", The Richard Stubbs Breakfast Show, RSN Breakfast, and more recently 3AW with Dee Dee Dunleavy. He even spent a year as showbiz reporter on Working Dog's "The Panel", until a Channel Ten exec asked, "Why are we having a bloke on who nobody's ever heard of talking about TV stars when we can have the actual stars?" Good Point.

This episode is sponsored in part by Humane Network, Doobert.com and Maddie's Fund. In this episode, Stacy speaks with Jane Kennedy and Adrienne Lefebvre of Two Crazy Cat Ladies, an all-natural feline product line designed to help kitties live longer and healthier lives. In addition to their products, they also host a blog and podcast called “Back In The Closet,” to help bring cat parents together and raise awareness for the health and well-being of all kitties. They also host regular Facebook and Instagram lives, connecting with cat parents and sharing helpful tips. Jane and Adrienne always thought they were dog people. That all changed when cats started coming to them and they found themselves enthralled in the care of the kitties in their lives. In 2015, they realized how much they didn't know about nutrition when one of their cats went through a heartbreaking situation with feline leukemia. They searched for more answers and solutions but couldn't find much information. They ended up building their own community to support cat parents and address cats' specific needs. Oftentimes, it feels like we live in a dog-dominated world and there are negative stereotypes associated with being a cat parent. Jane and Adrienne are changing this and inspiring cat lovers to fully embrace their love for cats. They tell us more about how they started their business, what they learned along the way and how they use social media to build this supportive community. “Cats really are some of our best teachers. We've all had that special cat in our life that helps us be a better human and helps us better take care of the cats that come into our lives.” Notes: To learn more about Jane Kennedy & Adrienne Lefebvre of Two Crazy Cat Ladies, visit her website! "We're meant to be a missionary people. He will always equip you for the places He will call you." Jane Kennedy has always been filled with great expectations and ideas for projects. Despite all the ideas, she noticed that sometimes the spirit would fizzle out before they could even get going. But the launch of The SundayMonday was different: She wasn't rushed, she felt at peace, and she let God lead her throughout the process. Her goal with this new platform is to help other young Catholic women like herself working in the secular world. Jane wants to inspire other women to bring their whole selves to their workplaces and allow God to set them ablaze wherever they may be. In this episode, we talk about how Jane is bringing about change in the work she does, what inspired The SundayMonday, and how we can tell if the evil one is trying to lead us astray. Here are the show notes for this week's episode. My guest today is Actor, Author, Writer, Casting Director, Producer, Comedian, Mother of five and founding member of Working Dog - Jane Kennedy. Jane is part of one of my country’s most successful independent film and television production companies of all time - Working Dog. Check this credit list : D-Generation, The Late Show, Frontline, The Castle, The Dish, The Panel, The Hollowmen, Utopia, Thank God You’re Here, Have You Been Paying Attention, the list goes on and on. Jane is an incredibly accomplished person, and I couldn’t be more thrilled when she said yes to come and chat with me. We cover a lot here - her career path, being a mother to five, talking to her kids about porn - we talk about it all. On that - we do get quite graphic in this one, so if you hear us start to talk about porn, perhaps flick forward a minute or two. And there’s a trigger warning in this one as we discuss sexual abuse for a few minutes too. So just skip forward about three minutes or so and you’ll come out fresh as a daisy on the other side. Thank you for being here, and thank you for sharing this time of your day with me. I hope you enjoy this wonderful conversation with one of our country’s finest, Jane Kennedy.
