Welcome to Episode 139 – Knowing Our Limits   Happy birthday to Mindful Men! Yes, this episode coincides with the 2nd birthday of our therapy services, the 1stbirthday of our Facebook Community, and also… 1 year sober for yours truly (yay I did it!).   To mark the occasion, we're reflecting on what's happening behind the scenes at Mindful Men – and more importantly – we talk about how knowing our limits can help us pivot from the path we're on. Hitting the limit has been a theme of my therapy sessions of late (and my personal life), and so I wanted to give it some airtime to normalise the process of recognising when we need to pivot, and then being ok to pivot.    I'm also making a BIG announcement in this episode… so tune in, get mindful with me on our birthday… and spread the love by sharing with a mate!    In this episode, I share: The definition of insanity Knowing our limits Why pivoting is good for us A BIG announcement   Key Quotes:   “I got into small business to be more present as a husband and father, but I've been working way too much”   “when it's your own family, it becomes very difficult.  And so that got me thinking, okay, what's got to change?”   “I need to take my foot off the gas. I need to pivot.”    Connect with Mindful Men Website at www.mindful-men.com.au Community Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/2050441875316594 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/mindful.men.aus Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/mindful.men.aus/ Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/simon-rinne-246207247/ Tiktok: https://www.tiktok.com/@mindful.men.aus Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCbXBNQmbj4ZQj3rzFAZALTA   ***If anything triggers you from today's episode, please reach out to your support networks or seek professional help***   Stay Mindful, Simon

Ever wonder why men often bottle up their feelings? Society tells them that vulnerability is weakness. But what if we could flip that narrative and show that true strength lies in acknowledging and addressing your inner battles? If you're finding this episode resonates with you or someone you love, don't hesitate to take action. Listen to this episode and share it with the men in your life. In this episode I have a chat with Simon Rinne,  the Founder and Clinical Lead at Mindful Men. Simon thrives on supporting boys and men to embrace a healthier way of living. His lived experience includes over 30 years living with depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), and burnout; including relying on alcohol to cope with life's stressors. He's been sober since 2023, and blends his lived and learned experience in his approach to therapy. In 2021, he founded Mindful Men as a way to support men with their own personal development journey. By sharing his story, he contributes to normalising discussions about men's health and wellbeing. For over 30 years, Simon Rinne survived mental illness. Undiagnosed Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Depression, and Anxiety saw him turn from happy-go-lucky kid to dependent on alcohol to feel "normal". A parental break-up saw him become "the man of the house" - and this is where things turned dark.Social norms that tell boys and men to "suck it up" kept me quiet... and in that quiet, Simon's mind turned to suicidal thoughts. But he survived and after 20 years of suffering in silence, he finally reached out for help in 2012. Simon was diagnosed, and started seeing a therapist. However, Simon expected the therapist to wave a magic wand and cure him. That didn't happen, so Simon kept doing what he was doing. It wasn't until Simon became a dad that he started to reflect on how he was showing up. 1 year later, he burned out. This is where Simon discovered mindfulness, and started to turn from survivor to thriver.Simon is now 40 years old, sober, and using his pain to fuel his passion - talking about mental health! Not only does he love to talk about it, but he designed his therapy business around making therapy easy for men who really struggle to open up.Simon has also completed a Masters Degree in Social Work and established Mindful Men - a therapy business and global movement encouraging men to men to adopt mindful living, combat the stigma around mental health, and lower alarming rates of domestic violence and suicide.Socials:Website: www.mindful-men.com.auMindful Men Podcast LinkedIn: Simon Rinne FB: Mindful Men Insta: Simon@Mindful Men @mindful.men.aus Youtube: Mindful Men Enjoy the visual here on Youtube

Ever felt overwhelmed by life's challenges? Simon Rinney's story is a profound exploration of overcoming mental health struggles and finding true authenticity. From battling OCD and depression to embracing sobriety and mindfulness, Simon's journey is a testament to the human spirit's resilience. Simon's tale is a story of awakening, of finding solace in the support of loved ones, and of the courage to seek help. With this knowledge, he began to dismantle the social constructs of masculinity that had long dictated his behavior, and he started to embrace his vulnerability. This is a narrative that resonates with anyone who has ever felt the weight of mental health issues or the societal pressure to conform to a certain image.  Simon's voice is a beacon of hope, encouraging men to shed the armor of traditional masculinity and to embrace their authentic selves. His story is a testament to the fact that even when life seems to be an endless cycle of autopilot, there is a way back to oneself.   “I discovered this thing called mindfulness, and the courage to be authentic by being mindful and living a conscious life, as opposed to a life that for so long, I lived almost on an autopilot.”   Simon's path to recovery and self-discovery is not just his own. It's a shared path that he draws upon to help other men find their way. Simon started losing his true identity when he was eight. By thirteen, he was “full-blown” out of sorts with his mental health. But instead of talking about how he wasn't okay and seeking help, he did what he'd learned boys do — suppress and try to ignore the parts of him that didn't fit the criteria of being strong and brave. He held out for decades, coping, until burnout took him down. Find out why it was so hard for Simon to seek help, even when he knew he needed it. Discover how he integrated his younger self back into who he is now. Hear what it's like to feel more free by exposing your feelings than keeping a lid on them. Learn how important it is to choose your providers with care and keep seeking until you find a good fit. Hear about how you can help someone who's having a hard time coping get the help they need.  Bio Simon is a husband and father, mental health advocate and social worker. As the Founder of Mindful Men, he's dedicated to supporting men with mental illness and disability. Simon lived with OCD, Depression, Anxiety, and Burnout for 30 years, struggling in silence, using alcohol to feel "normal." At 28 Simon began the journey of healing and hopes to inspire others to believe that they can turn their pain into purpose, and move from surviving to thriving. Trigger warning: Infant death, Bereaved parents   Welcome to Episode 101 – Red Nose Dads with Chris Wood   As a family man, my wife and kids are my everything. I simply can't imagine a world without them.   And this is why my chat with Chris Wood was particularly eye-opening. Chris is a loving husband and bereaved father to Liam who passed away a 1 day old due to complications in utero. Chris bravely shares his story of losing Liam, to help encourage more fathers to access support through agencies like Red Nose Australia.   Red Nose's aim is to break the stigma around bereavement and loss, and provide support to those in grief through their free 24/7 Grief and Loss Support Line. Sadly, 3,000 little lives are lost suddenly and unexpectedly each year; and it is believed 1 in 4 pregnancies end in miscarriage.    But according to Red Nose, only 1 in 4 who access their Grief and Loss Support line are male. Our hope at Mindful Men is that Chris' story inspires more men to reach out for support after hearing his family's story.    The Red Nose Grief and Loss Support Line is available 24/7 for anyone affected by miscarriage, stillbirth, baby or child death on 1300 308 307.   In this episode, Chris shares: The devastating story of his and his wife's fertility and miscarriage journey How he nearly lost his son and wife during childbirth. His memories of Liam's first day What happened immediately after his Liam's death The gap between support for mums and dads How he started the touch footy team and how it's helped him cope His petition to increase the government's payments to bereaved parents Key Quotes:   "Pregnancy is fucking hard for a lot of people”   “Probably one of the equal hardest  things we ever done was had to leave him there after he died.”   "For me I was back at work doing 6 days a week after 3 weeks and I fucking hated it."   Connect with Chris: Liam's Legacy: https://www.instagram.com/liams_legacy11/ Red Nose Dads: https://www.instagram.com/red_nose_dads/ Petition: https://www.change.org/p/increase-in-government-payment-s-to-bereaved-parents-employed-self-employed   Connect with Red Nose Australia: Red Nose: https://rednose.org.au/ Fathers of Loss: https://rednosegriefandloss.org.au/fathers-of-loss   Connect with Mindful Men Website at www.mindful-men.com.au Community Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/2050441875316594 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/mindful.men.aus Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/mindful.men.aus/ Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/simon-rinne-246207247/ Tiktok: https://www.tiktok.com/@mindful.men.aus Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCbXBNQmbj4ZQj3rzFAZALTA   ***If anything triggers you from today's episode, please reach out to your support networks or seek professional help***   Stay Mindful, Simon --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/mindfulmen/message

Exploring the implications of social isolation in today's world and the factors exacerbating men's loneliness, I uncover its potential health repercussions. I offer actionable strategies, urging listeners to confront and embrace loneliness, redefine their social circles, and engage in group activities. Additionally, I introduce the Mindful Men Facebook community, a platform for mutual support and connection. His creation of Mindful Men and his genuine approach to helping others are commendable. I believe in the power of authenticity and true connections in the healing process, and Simon's story exemplifies this beautifully. Welcome to another amazing episode of the Healthy Healer. And today I have a guest from down under from Australia from Queensland, and his name is Simon Rinne. And as you heard in the introduction, Simon is someone that I've really expected to have a beautiful conversation with today. And basically what we're here to discuss is his path to being a healer. It's a unique path that Simon has taken. He was able to answer a questionnaire before it this is the first time we're actually meeting. But in order to apply to be here, you've answered a questionnaire and I was immediately enchanted with his answers and who he has become, and how we got here. So we're going to find out a little bit about a pathway to becoming a healthy healer. Simon is clearly one who has followed a pathway in that direction. And I think at this point is really making a big difference with other men who have issues that resonate with his own issues.   Website: www.mindful-men.com.au Mindful Men Podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/au/podcast/the-mindful-men-podcast/id1604992311 YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@mindfulmen/videos   ------   Show Notes:   Introduction to today's episode. 0:06 Hardest question he ever had. 1:25 Managing a mental health condition. 5:07 How did you learn about Ocd? 6:27 Knowledge is power. 12:09 Opening up and asking for help. 16:26

It wasn't until she was 35 that an ADHD diagnosis put the pieces together. And as we talk about in this week's episode, so many adults have experienced similar to Ange.  This was a wonderful chat that provided great insight into ADHD from a lived and learned experience. It also introduces us to ADHD Coaching, which can help ADHDers focus more on the future and less on their traumatic past.  If you're keen to check out the links mentioned in this episode, here they are: Website:  https://angenennie.com.au/ Instagram:  https://www.instagram.com/angenennie// Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/ange.nennie Additude Mag: https://www.additudemag.com/   Raising Boys by Steve Biddulph: https://amzn.to/3W6fWSR  Scattered Minds by Gabor Mate: https://amzn.to/3MrOD2g  Driven to Distraction by Dr Ned Hallowell: https://amzn.to/41H1UZl  For more from Mindful Men, check out the website at www.mindful-men.com.au ***If anything triggers you from today's episode, please reach out to your support networks or seek professional help*** Cheers, Simon --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/mindfulmen/message

In recent months, ChatGPT has popped into the news with stories like students using it to write their papers, and businesses using it for reports and blogs. Content creation takes a lot of my time, so I thought I would see if I can save time by getting ChatGPT to help me write a podcast episode.
