Is human authenticity still a competitive advantage in an AI-driven, metric-obsessed marketing world? In this episode of the CIM Marketing Podcast, host Ben Walker is joined by award-winning marketing leader and author Visha Kudhail (ex-Google, YouTube, Pinterest, Square UK) to unpack what authentic marketing really looks like in practice. Together, they go far beyond buzzwords, TikTok trends, and vanity metrics. Drawing on insights from her new book, “Authentic Marketing”, Visha explores how brands can use AI without outsourcing their soul, and why audience-first, intent-driven strategies are the real differentiator in a sea of sameness. She also shares powerful lessons from big tech leadership, building marketing functions from scratch, and a decade of championing women in leadership positions. In this episode, you'll learn:What authenticity actually means in marketing, and why most brands get it wrongHow to align values, leadership, product, and marketing so your brand truly matches its beliefsHow to build and lead high-performing marketing teams in complex, global organisationsIf you're a marketer, comms leader, or aspiring CMO wondering how to stay relevant in the AI era, this episode is for you. Visha Kudhail has spent nearly two decades in marketing across Channel 4, Thinkbox, Google, Pinterest and Square, where she and Chris first crossed paths on the hospitality side of the business. Now she has written a book on authentic marketing, and this episode digs into what authenticity actually means once you strip away the buzzword. We get into the difference between being truthful and being authentic, why trust is the connecting thread through everything, and how operators can stand out in a climate of rising misinformation, AI fatigue and a cost of living squeeze. Visha makes the case that brand is not just the marketing team's job, that you have to earn the right to be in the room with a customer, and that AI should be your sparring partner, not your content machine. Plenty here for marketers, founders and tech vendors alike. What we cover02:01 Visha's career path from TV and Thinkbox to Google, Pinterest and Square06:20 The book reveal and why she wrote it08:11 Why authenticity matters now: misinformation, political noise, cost of living and only 38% of people eating out10:17 What authentic really means: your words matching your beliefs as an operating principle11:38 Truthful vs authentic, and why even honest brands can feel fake13:32 Keeping authenticity intact as you scale a business14:03 The rise of content creators like Topjaw and why operators lean on them16:37 AI as a sparring partner, and why critical thinking cannot be outsourced18:47 The three tests of a great insight: brand truth, relatability, actionability19:50 Why none of it works if your data is not clean20:51 Building trust, with real examples from Google and Pinterest23:48 Why brand belongs to the whole business, not just the marketing room27:58 Earning the right to be in the room with the customer29:34 The Bread Ahead story and the power of one great piece of customer-led content31:26 Will AI make fake authenticity easier? The Coca-Cola Christmas ad cautionary tale32:47 AI rejection, dumb phones and the cultural shift back to analog and craft34:29 What Visha would build first if starting a brand from zero35:16 Profitable authenticity, with Patagonia, Nike, e.l.f. and Pieminister37:30 Book launch plans and what she hopes it changes40:30 Where to find VishaA few takeawaysTruth is being factually accurate. Authenticity is the feeling you create. Brands can be honest and still come across as fake.A strong insight passes three tests: is it baked into your brand truth, does it relate to your product, and can it actually shift behaviour.Use AI for productivity and efficiency, not as a cost cutting exercise that strips out the people doing great work. You always have to earn the right to be in the room with a customer, no matter how big you are.Authentic brands that stay true to their values can still drive profit. Patagonia, Nike and e.l.f. are the proof.About the bookVisha's book on authentic marketing is out 3 June in the UK and the US. It is built as a reusable, practical guide drawn from real strategies and frameworks she has applied day to day, with several chapters on data and a deep dive on how to think about AI.LinksPre-order and find the book via Visha's websiteConnect with Visha on LinkedIn

In this episode of Skin Anarchy, host Dr. Ekta sits down with Dr. Purvisha Patel, a board-certified dermatologist and cosmetic surgeon, to discuss the science and innovation behind Visha Skincare. Dr. Patel explains how her global background and extensive training inspired her to create a line of skincare products that deliver medical-grade results while addressing key concerns like hyperpigmentation, acne, and skin health for all.Dr. Patel's journey into skincare began in her practice, where she observed a significant gap in effective treatments—especially for skin of color. This led her to collaborate with top chemists and develop innovative solutions, such as the patented Illuminotex blend. By combining potent ingredients like azelaic acid, kojic acid, licorice extract, and malic acid, Illuminotex safely inhibits melanin production and performs on par with prescription-strength alternatives. She also highlights two hero products: the Advanced Purifying Cleanser and the Advanced Correcting Serum. The cleanser uniquely blends lactic, glycolic, and malic acids with zinc pyrithione and B vitamins to gently exfoliate and balance the skin, while the serum consolidates multiple steps with retinol, a vitamin C & E complex, niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, and Illuminotex to rejuvenate and brighten skin.Dr. Patel further explores how inflammation, gut health, and social media influence our understanding of skincare. With an eye on the future, she envisions Visha Skincare expanding to offer even more tailored, science-backed solutions. Tune in to discover how her insights and innovations are setting a new standard in dermatologist-developed skincare that is both safe and effective. To learn more about Visha Skincare, visit their website and social media. We talk about the 8th seed in the western conference and the crazy situation. Bottom Line: Caris Levert is cold and McCollum with a broken back is better than you'll ever be. We also talk through the playoff matchups and predict the Thunder to take the Rockets, and Heat to take the Pacers. We wager that Lebron and the Lakers wake up in the playoffs and build tremendous momentum. Adith holds that the Mavs will beat the Clip. Who's going to win it all?

In today's call Visha shares: - How she transitioned from corporate to being her own boss - Tips and techniques that have enabled her to grow a successful business and have the lifestyle she wants. - How she is still managing to run her business successfully, even though the restrictions of COVID 19 Why you need to know Visha: The Cinnamon Room was established by founder and designer Visha Nelson in 2014. Having lived in London, Hong Kong, and New York, the Singapore born capital markets lawyer and mother of two left her corporate life in pursuit of her creative passions to start up her design business when she finally returned to Singapore with her family. Having found a distinct shortage of unique and well-priced contemporary homewares in Singapore, Visha started sourcing products from all around the world to meet her own needs initially. As she traveled around on her sourcing trips, Visha saw a great opportunity to design her own bespoke range of home accessories and from there, The Cinnamon Room was born. Visha’s passion for design and strong business sense has taken The Cinnamon Room from strength to strength and the brand was recently awarded the Gold Award for Best Carpet and Rug Store in Singapore in 2019. Having now established the brand in the Singapore market, Visha is responding to global demand and bringing her natural stylish flair and sophisticated eclectic designs worldwide. https://thecinnamonroom.com/about-the-cinnamon-room/

Visha shares how she came to understand that she was 'just rolling along' in her career and it was when she applied and won the Future Leaders Award, that it gave her focus to start shaping her career in a more purposeful way. She talks passionately about the need for more platforms for women to discuss their role(s), achievements and the importance of believing in and encouraging others in their moments of self-doubt. Welcome Back! We are joined this week by Visha Loo AND last minute addition Rolando Ferreira!! I've been dying to have Visha on since the creation of this show. You may remember her being mentioned in past episodes as I told story's about events she has put on. Now we get to learn all about them first hand. My personal favorite was the LUBE LUCHA parody wrestling. Rolando Ferreira. If you follow Visha Loo already you may have notice this figure lurking around, often dressed in latex (created by Visha). Who is he? Well..all great cult leaders need a right hand and a hammer. Roli is the mussel, the mouth, and half of all that is Visha. weather that's promotional advertising, marketing, set building...he is there hand and hand. We start this weeks episode with a brief announcement including my own personal name change. We then learn about what my guests have been up to in the world of Horror Burlesque and latex seamstress. Find out about Roli's most recent event AYAMARCA - FESTIVAL OF THE DEAD. The topic gets shifted to a subject that's been eating me alive for so long now...how the HELL does anyone think the movie Hereditary is any good. I'm a huge horror movie fan and this is NOT a horror movie. Prove me wrong. Where's the scares? We end the show with another topic that I have been wanting to have since the story first came out however, I haven't been in the right company to enjoy such a subject. The hilarious and tragic suicide of Richard Russel. Richard, 29, stole a plain from his work with intentions of ending his life but before he did so he gave us some of the best audio and video of his final moments and in turn (in my opinion) immortalized himself forever. I would give a "Listener Advisory" warning but if you made it this far then your probably pretty cool.
