Unmade: media and marketing analysis

Welcome to an audio led edition of Unmade. Today, we talk to the newly arrived regional CEO of media mix modelling firm Mutinex, Mat Baxter, along with one of its cofounders, Henry Innis. If you've been thinking about upgrading to an Unmade membership, this is the perfect time. Your membership includes:* Member-only pricing for our conferences;* A complimentary invitation to Unmade's six-state Compass event in November;* Weekly member-only content;* Access to our paywalled archives - everything gets locked down after two months;* Your own copy of Media Unmade‘I wouldn't call it ego; I'd call it highly opinionated': Mutinex founder Henry Innis on working with Mat Baxter In the nearly two decades I've been covering the Australian media and marketing beat, perhaps the biggest trouble magnet has been Mat Baxter. For a journalist writing about an industry where people complain that executives lack the personality and substance they used to, trouble magnet is a positive, by the way.Baxter was one of a trio who irritated the establishment by blowing up the orthodoxy around media planning with the creation of Naked Communications. He then raced up within the big agency world as chief strategy officer at Mediacom. It was a time when the agency won lots of business as Baxter worked alongside the giant collared (and giant egoed) Toby Jenner, who these days is global CEO of Wavemaker. The pairing of the two big personalities only lasted 18 months before Baxter moved over to UM where he repeated the trick of turning the agency into a business-winning machine, working for IPG Mediabrands boss Henry Tajer. When Tajer was promoted to global boss, Baxter joined the entourage. He moved to a global role in New York, and when Tajer's time running IPG quickly blew up, Baxter moved upwards, as global CEO of Initiative. He then went on to take charge of IPG's agency Huge, where his efforts to reengineer it became one of the foci of Michael farmer's book Madison Avenue makeover.Since Baxter announced his return to Australia, the industry has been keen to know what he would do next, with the possibility of him joining Mutinex in the frame for many weeks before it became official.Unmade first featured Mutinex in an episode of The Unmakers two years ago. At that point cofounders Henry Innis and Matt Farrugia had not long evolved to talking about themselves as a software-as-a-service platform, rather than a consultancy or agency. And they were still called Mutiny before a name change forced by a collision of global ambitions and trademark considerations.Since then, the company has grown to a six figure valuation, and you wouldn't bet against it becoming a billion dollar unicorn if it stays on track. They are mostly describing themselves as Mutinex Growth OS, as they position themselves as the operating system, or dashboard, of media mix modelling.Notably in today's podcast conversation, featuring Baxter and Innis, Baxter uses the Growth OS brand far more than he does the name Mutinex. (Another rebrand in prospect?)After this month's announcement of Baxter as CEO for APAC, the single question that came up most in industry gossip was whether there is room for the egos of Baxter and Innis in the same organisation. They tackled that question during the podcast conversation.Innis argues that in a high growth organisation, it's possible to channel that dynamic outwards. Baxter says his role is to act as a “whisperer” to Innis and Farrugia.Since Baxter's appointment, the duo have been accused of hubris. In an interview with Media Week, Innis declared “There will be no other tech company shipping product as quickly as us within six months,” adding: “Good luck to anybody else.”In their B&T chat Innis compared his relationship with Baxter to that of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg with the executive who commercialised the platform, Sheryl Sandberg. For those covering the industry, the unfiltered, opinionated nature of Innis and Baxter's personalities is no bad thing - not least when the digital supply chain is so murky. Asked whether Baxter is ready to be a cop on the beat, the first part of his answer: “Of course.”Take a listen. When Unmade first talked to Mutinex:Index drops further below 500Having dropped below 500 points for the first time on Tuesday - meaning a halving of the value of Australia's media and marketing businesses over the last two-and-a-bit years - the Unmade Index lost some more ground yesterday, dropping another 0.65% to 495.1 points.Southern Cross Austereo had the worst of it, losing nearly 5% as the market contemplates a slow radio advertising market, the flatering ARN Media takeover bid and an alternative propsal from Australian Community Media looking to bring it into the local newspaper market. The only stock to rise yesterday was Domain, up 1.4% Today's podcast was edited by the excellent people at Abe's Audio.Time to leave you to your Thursday. We'll be back with more tomorrow. With Nine's CEO on the precipice, News Corp restructuring and ACM proprietor Antony Catalano in the hunt for Southern Cross Austereo, there's a lot happening in media this week.Have a great day.Toodlepip…Tim BurrowesPublisher - Unmadetim@unmade.media This is a public episode. “Usually the thing I love about sound is how it answers the question within a very short period of time. You don't have to listen for very long, right? If you hear a message twice, you go, ‘Oh, that must be their message.' Turned up in two ads, you know, like it becomes a current. I mean, to me, it's obvious pretty quickly.” -- Josh Butt This episode's guest is the Chief Production Officer of Ampel and an award-winning content creator of podcasts, TV, audio ads, and video content with over 25 years of experience. With an ear for sonic logos, musical stings, and funny ads, his work makes audiences laugh, think and act. He's won a number of awards along the way and has previously worked at MediaCom, Storylab, ABC, and Triple M. A VCA and Monash Business school graduate, he's a past participant of The Observership Program, a former lecturer at the Australian Film, Television, and Radio School, a former board member of Co-Curious / Curious Works, and he currently sits on the Create NSW Multi-Arts Board. His name is Josh Butt and if you're interested in learning more about the correlation between sound and memory, where humor fits into advertising, and how companies can make the best impact with curated sound, stay tuned because you're going to want to hear what he has to say!As always, if you have questions for my guest, you're welcome to reach out through the links in the show notes. (0:00:00) - From Music to AdvertisingWe start off with a look back at Josh's early memories of sound, which, in his case, turns out to be the infamous “your door is ajar” car alert from the ‘80s. “It was a cool car,” he recalls. “I mean, sorry, it wasn't a very cool car, but it had a great sound. That's probably the first sound that I can think of.” Josh tells us about the importance of being adaptable in the Australian market, and how it led to him taking on a range of audio roles. “I had a business degree,” he says, “and so falling into the producer line sort of became my thing because I could communicate with all the creative people.” (0:07:14) - Analog vs Digital Media and Sonic BrandingJosh also tells us about his early work with analog tape vs. digital audio, which one he prefers, and how his early days in podcasting led him into audio marketing. “Sonic branding has really been a focus of mine,” he explains, “as well as making radio ads and podcast ads that are for the audience.” We talk about some of the famous brands he's worked with and the enduring impact a sonic brand can make. “They'll be reaping the rewards from this,” he says about the famous McDonald's jingle, “for twenty years because what...

A recent incident involving Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida being handed a supposed 'participation trophy' has spread like wildfire across various social media platforms. This peculiar event stems from DeSantis's political outing in the cozy town of Atlantic, Iowa, during the critical prelude to the state's looming Republican caucus. DeSantis, who was previously perceived as a serious contender against Trump for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, has witnessed a considerable degradation of his standing. Regarding his position within the prospective Republican caucus electorate, a joint poll by NBC News, Mediacom, and The Des Moines Register ranked him thirdly, trailing behind ex-Governor Nikki Haley of South Carolina. The unexpected encounter surfaced while DeSantis and his spouse, Casey DeSantis, were preparing to engage their support base in Atlantic. An individual, wielding a tiny trophy, proceeded to interrupt the impending session, directing his words at the Governor: 'A quick interlude before we dive in, much gratitude to all present.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Check then out on SHOPAssociation.orgIn this episode I talk with Neil Redding Founder of Redding Futures about Near Futurism and Spatial Computing. But first a few thoughts.****************I grew up on Star Trek. And Walt Disney of course.Sunday nights were special my brothers and I would gather together with my father watching captain James T Kirk careening around the universe and battle everything from klingons to tribbles. It gave me a vision of the future and a world of possibility beyond what was known. I think having had that experience, and my father's fascination with the possibility of beaming anywhere, set me on a path for being always curious about the expanse of the universe, the possibility of extraterrestrial life, what would happen when you traveled at the speed of light or entered the event horizon of a black hole. Later on I began to be interested in string theory and tried hard to understand the math and physics of the general theory of relativity. It's equally become important as a practice to hold future thinking in context with present realities. The pandemic offered an opportunity to really understand what it meant to be present -where the future vision for my life that I had established weren't coming to pass - at least in the short term. And so, it became interesting for me to think about the future not as some long far off vision of something that would happen 25 or 50 or 100 years from now but to think increasingly about the near future. It also became clear that the distant future was becoming increasingly difficult to imagine. When thinking about the exponential pace of change it became very clear to me that we were very definitely on the upswing of an exponential curve where moments of significant technological advances would become closer and closer together and therefore the deltas between one significant moment and the next would also become smaller putting us perhaps in the perpetual present, fluidly moving from now and next .And of course, if you do any meditation or have a mind body practice, the whole idea is to find yourself in the present letting go of past and a longing for understanding future. And that's great and I do have a meditation practice each day that helps me stay centered focused on the now, hopefully ridding me of my worries or my regrets from things that I might have done in the past or perpetually longing for a future to be a certain way.But at the same time, there seems to be a paradox - we're not naturally good at staying in the perpetual present because we need to rely on past for learning and we often long for understanding our future perhaps because we want some sense of predictability in in otherwise largely unpredictable world. And so I began to think a lot about this idea of near future - not lingering on the past, though hoping that I bring lessons learned from those experiences forward to make me smarter and help support the decision making in the present and not completely alienating myself from future.I've come to think of this a matter of a proportioning of my daily brain power - how much time am I spending thinking about what was or has not yet come to pass. And so when I reconnected with Neil Redding in an online conference that I see saw him speaking at, I was fascinated with his concept around near futurism end other subjects like spatial computing. Things that has focused his profession professional path on over the past number of years since our first meeting in New York over a decade ago. When we met then we shared a stage at a Society for Graphic Designers event and I had just published my book Retail (r)Evolution and was talking about the emergence of a new experience seeking cohort of shoppers focused in the digital world and what the emergence of digital media, as a medium for interacting with customers, would mean. Then I was talking about Google Glass which had just come on to the market and I saw it as a potentially new way of engaging in experiences of our physical environment.I explained to my sons that I was selected to be a beta tester and their remark to me then was “dad, you're not actually gonna put that thing on your face are you?”Google Glass ended up not gaining traction and faded away. But that didn't mean that companies developing augmented reality headsets head disappeared they were just perhpas waiting for a time where general adoption of the tech would become more robust. I happen to think that augmented reality is a better solution than virtual reality because augmented reality keeps us in the present it keeps us in a place where we are actively engaged in a mind body way with the environments that we're in.Augmented reality offers us an opportunity to have a digital overlay on those experiences and it draws from our Hansel and Gretel trail of digital ones and zeros that suggest our preferences, our desires, our need for certain kinds of information so that products and places could be customized by us. Augmented reality also offers us the opportunity to share in the expereicne of place. Both myself and a friend or family member could visit a store, a museum or even a National Park standing side by side and through our augmented reality headsets or glasses, we could at the same time, share in the experience and also have it equally customized to our individual preferences. The idea of augmented reality actually isn't new. L Frank Baum, who wrote the Wizard of Oz, actually described a headset in his 1901 book “THE MASTER KEY”.There he previewed the invention of the Taser, a hand-held PDA with Google Glass-like capability, including live video /AR and a wireless phone. The Master Key: An Electrical Fairy Tale, Founded Upon the Mysteries of Electricity and the Optimism of its Devotees, describes the adventures of a 15 year old boy who experiments with electricity. The young lad accidentally touches "the Master Key of Electricity," and comes into contact with a Demon who bestows upon him various gifts.  One of these gifts is a "Character Marker" which is described on p. 94:"It consists of this pair of spectacles. While you wear them everyone you meet will be marked upon the forehead with a letter indicating his or her character. The good will bear the letter 'G,' the evil the letter 'E.' The wise will be marked with a 'W' and the foolish with an 'F.' The kind will show a 'K' upon their foreheads and the cruel a letter 'C.' Thus you may determine by a single look the true natures of all those you encounter."Sometimes I think people like L Frank Baum and others like Nicola Tesla knew, long before they actually came into common usage, where our technology would finally bring us. It just seems like the actual evolution of digital technology was simply lagging behind our imagination.Tesla for example was quoted in in 1926 Colliers magazine article as saying “when wireless is perfectly applied the whole earth will become converted to a huge brain, which in fact it is. All things being particles of a real and rhythmic whole... and the instruments through which we shall be able to do this will be amazingly simple compared to our present telephone. A man will be able to carry one in his vest pocket” and then he goes on to say that we'll be able to communicate with each other independent of geography.About a decade ago there was a Time magazine article called “Never Offline” where they described wearables - meaning the digital interfaces that we would put on our bodies from smartwatches to things like Google Glass or augmented reality goggles. In that article they suggested that “…wearables will make your physical self visible to the virtual world in the form of information, an indelible digital body print, and that information is going to behave like any other information behaves these days. It will be copied and circulated. It will go places you don't expect. People will use that information to track you and to market to you.”Now I suppose one way of taking this view would be that it aligns with the often dystopian vision of a future where information is used without our knowing and perhaps to our detriment. On the other hand, things like wearables and spatial computing devices can be used to augment experiences to the benefit of people. One of them which seems to be Ground Zero for the application of augmented reality or spatial computing is in the retail world. It's easy to imagine shopping experiences that are already difficult to navigate - because retailers cram their spaces with so many products that it makes choosing and navigation of the assortment difficult - could be alleviated through the use of smart devices like an augmented reality headset of some kind. Signage could be clearer, information leading to better decision making could be better and navigation through a complex maze of products in any store could also be made more efficient.Wearable technologies have not disappeared since Google Glass came on the market and then faded away. Compnaies have been spending time refining technologies allowing our ability to collect, parse and share data. The introduction of artificial intelligence and natural language processing has also become more part of our everyday world. And this is where spatial computing becomes increasingly interesting. What if we can talk to our devices as we navigate space what information could we call up that would help us make decisions or be better informed? What visual clutter could we remove from our streets and highways? that instead of having large billboard structures lining highways that that information could simply be a visual virtual overlay that we see through our dashboard or through the glasses we're wearing on our face.Or maybe it offers up the opportunity for things that are specifically related to me like what restaurant I'd like to go to and how far it is away because my personal preferences are already loaded into the algorithm. Perhaps our actual 3D environment becomes less littered with this type of visual noise and the work of providing that kind of information is provided through a set of glasses and an augmented reality overlay. So having this conversation with Neil was interesting because he's actually doing this sort of thing.Neil Redding has worked at the convergence of digital and physical for decades, and is an expert speaker and advisor in the realms of spatial computing, augmented reality (AR), AI, and convergent brand ecosystems. As a Near Futurist,Neilfocuses on connecting what's possible with what's practical — pulling the future into the present through a digital experience lens.Neil currently leads ReddingFutures, a boutique consultancy that enables brands and businesses to engage powerfully with the Near Future. Prior to foundingReddingFutures,Neilheld leadership roles at Mediacom, Proximity/BBDO, Gensler, ThoughtWorks and Lab49.He has worked for companies including Visa, Nike, Cadillac, Macy's, NBA, Verizon, TED, The Economist, MoMA, Converse, Morgan Stanley, Apple, Oracle, Financial Times, and Fidelity Investments. He has spoken at numerous conferences including SXSW, Immerse Global Summit, infoComm, Tech2025, CreateTech, SEGD XLab, A.R.E. Recently, there's been a fair few people who have gotten in touch o let me know that they've enjoyed an episode from the past. So, we thought it would be a good idea to round the year out by re-running three of our most popular episodes. In a world where traditional reach and attention are diminishing, brands are looking for cut-through and engagement to drive relevance and ultimately accelerate their growth. Through sponsorship, rights holders help brands access an audience they would otherwise find it hard to access or would not be able to access as cost-effectively. However, we all know that being a sponsor and simply logo slapping is no longer enough; it hasn't been for a while. That is why creative in sponsorship is one area where brands can really activate their sponsorships to achieve cut-through & engagement to drive relevance & growth. What is, however, the process of creative in sponsorship? What part can it play in activation? How can brands and rights holders bring it to life? What are the pitfalls along the way? Joining the show, to help answer those questions is Misha Sher, Global Head of Sport, Entertainment & Culture at MediaCom, based in London. Also joining the show is Jordan Rutner, Research Marketing Manager at KORE Software, to talk about one of KORE's latest blogs, Building a Sustainable Sponsorship Department. After a successful 20-year career in technology, Alli founded The Forem to unlock opportunities for women across disruptive brands and Fortune 1000 organizations. As CEO, Alli oversees all aspects of The Forem, including corporate training and Executive Coaching. In her last role, Alli led Americas at Turn, a tech company in the middle of a challenging transition and exit. In her most prominent role, Alli led various sales teams over an 11-year tenure at Google, where she focused on strategic partnerships and aligning customer goals with emerging tech solutions, including the development of a global programmatic strategy which drove several billion in revenue. Alli began her career at Yahoo! and went on to lead creative and marketing strategy at both Deutsch and Mediacom. Throughout Alli's career, she noticed a pattern — there are unwritten rules that men and corporations have been using for decades that women have not implemented due to lack of exposure and sponsorship, among other things. Alli spent a year researching career advancement and launched a new curriculum that unlocks upward mobility for women, called the 5 Critical Skills. These skills are not gender specific, but they are often underutilized by women, and they are critical to navigating leadership within corporate culture. Alli's unique curriculum is based on her experience at Google and can reach a wide audience via her platform at The Forem. These skills apply to young women starting their careers, all the way up to CEOs seeking board seats. Alli's personal mission is to move 1M women into leadership by 2030. The Forem's Five Critical Skills are taught through talks, live workshops, and a career advancement platform, which enhances ongoing learning. These skills can be leveraged at any stage of a career. Listen to this Takin' Care of Lady Business episode with Alli Young where they discuss It is essential for supervisors to demonstrate an aptitude for breaking the status quo. Developing a sense of unity among employees within an organization is critical, as is promoting psychological safety. For women working in the tech industry, it is wise to cultivate a support network of colleagues who will be there to provide guidance and encouragement. Here is what to expect on this week's show: The importance of instilling psychological safety. Managers need to be willing to be disruptors. The importance of creating community within a company. Have a tribe of people on your side. Quotes: “Teaching people why growth mindset is so important. And when you teach that, and they believe it, it does help with everything else that follows. People are more willing to be curious, and to be a little more introspective, and figure out different ways in which they can show up.” – Alli Young “As an executive, I've always found [you're either making money or saving money for the company] one of the most difficult things to get across to more junior exec, employees, etc. because they want to join something that they want to be a part of they're not thinking necessarily, of the P&L and the bottom line.” – Jennifer Justice “If these companies don't really look within at the employees that they have and look at them and say we're going to help you operate at a higher-level man they'd better sell more effectively understand the P&L, so you can make better business decisions like all of that. I don't know how they're going to be able to achieve their goals.” – Alli Young “Have your tribe of people not inside, but out.” – Jennifer Justice alliyoung@theforem.co https://theforem.co Learn more about your ad choices. It is scary to think that it is only a few months until 2023 rolls around. For many, we already have an eye on 2023 and are deep in planning for a successful year. However, what should you be considering and keeping top of mind when planning? You could argue that there's a lot of ‘noise' within sport and entertainment sponsorship. It just gets busier and busier and there seem to be more and more platforms; whether they be social media platforms or new OTT services that further fragment viewing. How do you navigate the noise and help ensure sponsorship success? What role does cultural relevance play in sponsorship planning and execution? Should you even be focussing on relevance or is going 'all in' on reach your best play? How do you make the best use of your budget? How flexible and responsive do you need to be to make use of opportunities that pop up, despite a plan already in place? What about purpose? All big and important questions which are discussed in this episode as Dan Collier-Hill, Head of Strategy, Creative Systems, at MediaCom Australia, joins the show. Hello everyone, welcome back to episode twelve of the Women Invest In Real Estate podcast! We have had such great feedback and so many questions about our day-to-day's, so today's episode is another behind-the-scenes episode where we're going to give you the scoop on what we are both up to in the world of real estate investing and managing our properties. We're going to start off with a crazy story that Amelia has been bursting at the seams to share (and has made us wait until we recorded this episode to share) all the deets about recent happenings at her mid-term rental property! Amelia's Internet NovellaA few days ago Amelia received a call from Mediacom that they were suspending her service for illegal video downloading. She inquired about the specific router and with several units sharing routers she had to determine exactly when the video downloading occurred to narrow it down to the exact culprit (tenant). The downloading apparently began the day after this tenant moved in and she was taken aback because they claimed they had called her to inform her previously (nope, they did not, nor could they prove it). No one (and we mean NO ONE) likes to deal with utility companies and this time was no exception.Amelia's red mane was flaming and she was furious about the problem this tenant had caused, because not only did he cause her account to be suspended, but Mediacom informed her that if it continued they would be canceling all of her accounts! This would be quite problematic because not only were all of her units in this building run on Mediacom, but a few others as well, including her personal account. She asked them to give her a few hours to nail down the tenant and resolve the issue and as soon as she hung up she immediately called the tenant. While Amelia normally prefers to handle all of her tenant communication in writing, time was of the essence and she needed an immediate response. When he answered she immediately informed him that she was aware of what was going on and that the internet has been suspended and he was to remove all content from all of his devices, effective immediately, or she would be taking legal action against him.To cover her back, she sent him a text message detailing exactly what she had just verbally told him, as well. He was very apologetic but still received a BIG timeout from Amelia's paid-for wifi.  Grace's Next MoveWith more than 12 units using Mediacom for internet service, they finally advised Grace to move to a commercial internet account (quite literally to help her avoid situations just like Amelia's), so it doesn't cause an issue across the board on her accounts.Grace is also in the process of hiring an in-house Property Manager and could not be more excited! After so much back-and-forth about the decision to hire Grace has pulled the trigger and is now learning how to ‘be the boss'! This investment will come back to her simply on the time she will be saving by having someone else handle all of the little (and big) details for her biz. For the time being, Grace has been in a reactive stage. She reacts as requests come in, and would rather be able to be in more of a proactive space where she can be prepared for things ahead of time. It is going to be a whole new stage in her business. Other UpdatesAnother announcement Amelia is excited to announce is that if you tuned into our first BTS episode you heard that I was under contract on a seller-financed triplex and they finally closed on that property last week! The first thing they are planning to tackle on this project is actually replacing the roof. It will cost around $22,000 to fully demo and replace (including the removal of 4 old layers) the roof of this property. She is also going to have the gutters replaced as well which will add on another $4,000, spending $26,000 right off the bat, which they are financing through a line of credit and they will BRRR into a commercial loan once they are finished with the rehab.A couple of fun surprises they found on this property were that it still has old knob-and-tube wiring. While it is in good condition, they will likely still go ahead and replace it since so many walls will already be opened up. Another surprise was that this owner actually did a full clean-out from all of the ‘stuff' that originally had been packed into the property (rare, but a much-appreciated surprise!). Lastly, while they were pulling up the old, brown shag carpeting they discovered beautiful wood floors, in immaculate condition! That's all for this episode, friends! Your favorite Fiorentina podcast idiots are back to talk about a slew of topics. We begin with a breakdown of the Viola mercato (spoiler alert: we think there may still be gaps in the squad), then veer into how the team's looked on the pitch (another spoiler alert: not very good!), and wrap up with a discussion about what some possible fixes could be. Oh, and I guess it's worth mentioning that we touch on why Fiorentina owner and president Rocco Commisso is badmouthing our very own Mike McCormack in team press conferences, and how exactly we feel about it. Along the way, we learn about the Samuele Ricci slide whistle, that Mike lives a liquid IV, that Tito is VERY hungover, and that we should never, ever, ever name any names, under any circumstances. We had a blast making this one and hope you enjoy listening. Story of failure: Losing my composure during competition (and cursing). My name is Jeni Hopkins and I was a coach for 24 years and have loved every minute of it.  Yes, of course, there are a lot of highs and lows in coaching, but the rewards and the privilege of working with such outstanding student-athletes, assistant coaches, managers, athletic directors, athletic trainers, officials, table workers, and many more are what I valued the most.  The intangibles and intricacies of sports deserve to be explored and a voice needs to be given to coaches, players, officials, and others that play such vital roles in the arena of sports. This is about giving that voice.  I am also currently the Media Coordinator of the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association and have a lot of pride in the promotional mission and advocacy of that organization for coaches. I have been on their executive board for over 20 years. Check out our website at www.mobca.org.I am also a proud member, and president, of the board of directors of the Springfield Area Sports Hall of Fame.  This is a non-profit organization that recognizes excellence in sports and in turn raises funds for youth sports. Our website is www.springfieldhof.com.Another adventure is that I am a color analyst for Mediacom and MSHSAA.tv and am thrilled to work with them during basketball season while getting a front row seat to the best basketball! I have also worked games, both play by play and color analyst, for Evangel University, Southwest Baptist University and Drury University.  I also broadcast the Norm Stewart Classic on ESPN3 from Mizzou Arena. I love broadcasting basketball and have also enjoyed bringing volleyball and track and field to the air waves, too.I also am the founder and director of a basketball luncheon every two weeks, Court Talk, during basketball season.  This luncheon promotes basketball in Springfield and includes all of the city high school and college coaches, plus Southwest Baptist and College of the Ozarks. 'I am also the founder and director of CHAMPS (Champion Humans and Mentoring Partnerships for Success), a mentoring program for seniors in high school.  For more information, click here.I am currently the Interim Assistant Director at Greenwood Laboratory School, my Alma Mater. I love those Bluejays!I am also a Sports Counselor and have been for multiple years.  I love assisting athletes with the mental side of their game!My favorite role is with my FAMILY.  My husband of over two and a half decades is Scott Hopkins. He is a farmer and very involved with children's charities, in particular the Shriners.  My daughter, Hailey Jo, is a graduate of the University of Arkansas and my son, Hayden, is a college student at Missouri State University. In today's episode, Jeni talks aboutwhy she got into coaching after being a collegiate athleteplaying handball at Missouri State and wanting to be a female reporterhow marrying a farmer changed her pathjumping right into the coaching worldbeing a coach for 24 years and pivoting from theregoing out on her own terms and retiring from coachingcolor analyst and broadcasting shows and working with other coachesthe difficult decision of leaving her coaching career“sometimes you have to jump and take a new adventure in your life.”CHAMPS Leadership program and how it worksthe post game talk as a coachmentoring young kids and the best part of the CHAMPS programhow her dad (professional NFL player and super bowl champion) was a big mentorsports counselor for 20+ yearshow she is addicted to her mother's opinionPaul Mullins as a mentorDavid Oatman as a coach and mentor in high schoolsports are the platform but coaches teach lifestealing coaching styles and making it her ownstory of a coach humbling Jeni and making sure she was on time to classthe respect of calling you out when neededthe respect of being on timewhy she wouldn't have any success without failurethe best lesson you get from sports is coping skillsbeing a mentor and coach without ultimate ‘success' of state championshipswhy she loves seeing former players and still being a part of their liveshaving her team watch the movie Meet The Robinsonshow can I fail forward?why younger students don't want to put themselves in a position to failwhy showing examples is importantfailure of people misunderstanding her intentions and why she feels bad about itfinding a way to let go of what she can't controlfailure is growth, congratulations!changing obstacles and adversity into opportunitybeing asked to lead the mental health initiatives for the state of Missourifinding balance as a coachinconsistant confidence“it's failure that makes it sweet.”pressure from parents and our environment affecting young kidsworking with all athleteshow can you be perfect in baseball?specific help for specific playersbuilding your physical and mental skillsreaching your max potentialif the mental isn't there, the physical doesn't matterwhy Jeni's teams beat teams that they shouldn't have won againstin the final four with a 5' 6” centerher father having a doctorate in sports psychology  kids are different now and that's why you need to be differentwhy her favorite role is being a momtrying to be the best parent she can be to her two kidstalking to her kids about trying different sportscoaching with her daughter in a backpackwhy she wanted to find the value of the health and fitness of sportsbeing a part of a team in sportswww.acoachsperspective.com

Start trusting your gut as a leader. This can seem like something that could easily go wrong and have disastrous consequences, particularly when it goes "against the data". But, making tough decisions is something that ALL leaders have to do at some point or another, and more often than not these decisions are based on instinct. This is especially true when the data is incomplete or bad. I hosted Anush Prabu, US Chief Strategy Officer and Global Chief Strategy Officer, Creative Transformation for MediaCom. He explains how in these moments, it's important to trust your intuition and make the decision that you believe is best for everyone involved. We dive into three key strategies to trust your gut and make better decisions. Anush has been an instrumental part of the transformational growth of Mediacom since 2017, leading it to become the fastest-growing media agency and being awarded Agency of the Year three times during that period. He has also been credited for helping shape several of the agencies' offerings, including Creative Systems, which provides platform-first creativity that drives relevance and growth for clients such as Dell, Pokémon, and P&G. He has been honored as an Adweek's Media All-Star, Adweek Young Influential, International Innovator, and Integrated Marketing Influential over the years. He is also an ardent champion of diversity and inclusion, advocating for the cause on industry boards.
