In this powerful sermon titled "Why Does God Allow Suffering?" Pastor Daniel delves into the profound question that has puzzled humanity for ages. The sermon begins by acknowledging the historical atrocities of the 20th century, particularly during World War 1 and the Holocaust, leading to the emergence of Protest Atheism—a movement that protested against a seemingly indifferent God in the face of immense human suffering. The sermon centers around an exploration of the Apostles' Creed, focusing on the section that states, "(Jesus) suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried." Pastor Daniel provides historical context, emphasizing that Jesus' suffering was not a mere story but a specific event anchored in real historical time. The crucifixion of Jesus is described as the most barbaric moment in history, emphasizing its historical and spiritual significance. The narrative highlights Jesus' choice to lay down his life for the sins of the world, showcasing God's deliberate engagement with human history. Pontius Pilate's role is underscored as representative of the world's rejection of Jesus, implicating humanity as a whole in the crucifixion. The gruesome details of Jesus' crucifixion are vividly portrayed, drawing parallels to contemporary Roman practices. The sermon contrasts the public's reaction to Jesus' crucifixion with modern events, using the example of Osama Bin Laden's death to illustrate the shame associated with crucifixion. The sermon further explores the meaning of Jesus' death, emphasizing its purpose in paying for humanity's sins. The burial of Jesus is recounted, providing certainty of his death, and Pastor Daniel concludes by linking the suffering of Jesus to the broader concept of salvation. In a final statement, Pastor Daniel asserts belief in Jesus Christ as the one who endured the most barbaric moment in history, bringing salvation to the world. The audience is encouraged to reflect on their relationship with Jesus, posing the question of whether he is their Lord and expressing the transformative power of Jesus' sacrifice. The sermon leaves the congregation with a sense of awe and gratitude for the profound act of salvation accomplished through Jesus' suffering.Support the showWe are a Christian Church in Astoria, Queens, New York City whose missions is to connect people to Jesus Christ and one another. Why Does God Allow Suffering? So often, we ask 'If God is good, why does God allow suffering?' The truth is, God doesn't. God gave humans free will, and suffering results from humanity's collective choices and actions. But in the middle of all this pain and suffering, we are not alone. God sent Jesus to live and die, therefore he can relate to our pain. This means our suffering is not in vain. This means that Jesus is present with us, in our pain. And this means we have hope. So hold on. Trust in Jesus, and remember that you are not alone. ginghamsburg.org

How do you know Christianity is true and not some other religion?  You undoubtedly will be met with another question... Why does God allow suffering?  We may be led to believe that these questions are relatively new and have not yet been thought of.  Looking at Romans 5 we learn that Paul has already been thinking about these very questions and he goes on to address them along with the churches in Rome. The bible also reminds us that poverty will always be with us. So what is our goal? We can assume God's goal is not to eradicate poverty... otherwise, He would make it happen. But why does God allow poverty to persist? The answer is found in an understanding God's purpose in creating human life and His goals and plans for human beings. The Real Answer to Why God Allows Suffering

Playing a video game called Injustice helps Fr. Mike explain the real answer to why God allows suffering. In Injustice, Superman becomes a totalitarian dictator in his attempt to try and eliminate evil. Batman tries to tell him, in trying to eliminate evil he has ceased to do good, because without the freedom to choose evil, we don’t really have the freedom to choose good either. Couldn’t God do better than Superman though? Couldn’t he just fix everything by bringing us back to the Garden of Eden? Anyone who is a parent knows that doesn’t work because God’s children—us—would just mess up again. So what does God actually do? He doesn’t eliminate evil. He draws close to us in the midst of evil. He suffers a painful death. He descends to the depths of hell. He doesn’t take away suffering. He transforms it and redeems it by entering into it. This led St. Paul to say: “Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I complete what is lacking in Christ’s afflictions for the sake of his body, that is, the church” (Colossians 1:24). St. John Paul II said in suffering we receive a sliver of the Cross. Our suffering matters because Christ’s suffering matters and we are his body. All we have to do is tell God to use our suffering. Nothing given to God is ever wasted, so give it to God.

Seventh-day Adventist Church of Adairsville

In any good story we quickly know the good guy, the bad guy and what is at stake depending on who wins. So is God good all the time? How do we know if something comes from God - like cancer, a breakup, failing a class? Does God send calamity into our lives or is someone else responsible?

It may sound foolish to believe in a God who allows evil, tragedy, suffering, and disasters. But God never promised to rid the world of these things. He promised us hope: “and hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us” (Romans 5:5). At some point we are going to experience heartbreak, loss, and suffering. Anyone who thought having faith in God would take away those things in life had the wrong idea of who God is. Fr. Mike says he has never been disappointed in God, because he knows what promises God did make. God is faithful. He will never break his promises, but he never promised that you would not experience grief. He did promise that in the midst of the pain he will be there. In being there, he will help you to love the giver of peace more than the gift of peace. Discipleship is a daily cross. God promised trouble, not peace. He encouraged us to take heart in the midst of that trouble, and that’s how we grow stronger and holier. There will be floods and fire and sickness and tragedy. Turn to the one who promised he will be there with you through it all to help carry you through it. When we feel we have been let down by God the most, those are the times when trust in him means the most.

Our podcast goes into detail about some of the problems we see in the church today. We show how focusing on Moses (people or pastors or celebrities) will fail us. What if God doesn't deliver our wants the way we want them in the timing we desire? Is God a giant vending machine to serve us? People push the love of God. What does that even mean? What if God is all about His plans and purposes, and it is our "job" to line up with those plans and intentions called His will? It is your work to believe in Jesus Christ and place your sin on Him to rescue you from this world that is in the process of dying. But you are to serve Him, and not the other way around.  What if we were created to serve God, and then to do His will, but we got lost in the fog and noise of the culture around us and lost our way to Him? What if we come back to Him with this: "Lord, I "got" nothing. I need You and am willing to submit to Your Word, with no expectations of anything. I am sorry for worshipping false gods of people, expectations, and lustful desires. Will You change me with Your Power?" If we take that stance and open His word to obey Him, our lives will dramatically change. The power of God to change will come upon us. "Hey Ric, got some scripture to back that up?" Sure do. Go to Deut 28 whole chapter. Pay attention to verse 1. Notice what follows. Then read Ex 32. Join us for the exploration of Exodus 32. Can you be deceived? We are taking a fresh look at the Sabbath or Shabbat. Podcast for Pewsitters and Biblestudycompany.com are giving a shout out to the TV series, The Chosen, by Dallas Jenkins. In the series, Dallas portrayed a Shabbat dinner in several instances. One was a woman of an ancient tent-dwelling group of people preparing for a Shabbat meal, which was touching. A boy was asking his mother, the purpose of Shabbat. She explains the fellowship aspect and the advantage of gathering family and friends. As a husband and father, I personally love the "call to Shabbat" by honoring the wife by declaring: "A woman of valor, who can find? Far beyond pearls is her value. Her husband's heart trusts in her, and he shall lack no fortune". (Proverbs 31) WOW!Let's shift back to bible study of the Shabbat. Is the Shabbat just an old testament custom or "law" that is only for the Jewish people? Or are Christians to avoid old testament laws and traditions because we are under a "new covenant" and are not under old testament law? Or, as Christians, do we have a wrong view of the "law" and the Bible altogether? What if we took a new perspective that the "whole counsel of God " (Acts 20:27)----the whole Bible is to teach us about the plans and purposes of God? What if the Shabbat has lessons to teach us about the character of God and even our lack of dependence on God? Read Isaiah 58:13-14. Is it possible to put aside your will for one day? We need God's power in our life. Fortunately, His grace comes to us when we submit to His word.Shall we honor the Shabbat? You decide as you listen to the podcast. The feasts and traditions of the Bible teach us important truths about God, and point to Christ.Let's join Ric and Mary Joyner in the podcast "Rethinking the Sabbath."

“Why Does God Allow Suffering” Why Does God Allow Suffering? The world is crazy right now with gun violence, discrimination, racism, judgement, over sexualization of kids, religious persecution and so much more.  People are suffering and it seems like everyone is pointing the finger and blaming each other or even worse, blaming God.  If God is all knowing, all powerful and a God of love, then why does God allow suffering? On this episode of Gratitude:UnFiltered, we discuss this and I also provide a few reasons why God allows for suffering..  Repentance: Suffering is a call for us and others to turn from treasuring anything on earth above God. Luke 13:4–5:“Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them: do you think that they were worse offenders than all the others who lived in Jerusalem? No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.”Reliance: Suffering is a call to trust God and not the life-sustaining props of this world. 2 Corinthians 1:8–9:We were so utterly burdened beyond our strength that we despaired of life itself. Indeed, we felt that we had received the sentence of death. But that was to make us rely not on ourselves but on God who raises the dead.Righteousness: Suffering is the discipline of our loving heavenly Father so that we come to share his righteousness and holiness. Hebrews 12:6, 10–11:“The Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives.” . . . He disciplines us for our good, that we may share his holiness. For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.Reward: Suffering is working for us a great reward in heaven that will make up for every loss here a thousandfold. 2 Corinthians 4:17:This light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison. Finally, Reminder: Suffering reminds us that God sent his Son into the world to suffer so that our suffering would not be God’s condemnation but his purification. Philippians 3:10:. . . that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings.

How clean and fair are elections in America? There is evidence that Democrats are deliberately enabling voter fraud in an effort to steal elections—a dangerous example of lawlessness. Most people think of evolution as rational, as opposed to irrational religion. It’s worth looking at the origin of Charles Darwin’s theory of natural selection to get a more accurate view. We’ve been told in recent decades that salt is bad for you: It raises your blood pressure and causes heart disease. Recent studies, however, show that you gain tremendous health benefits if you’re eating the right kind of salt. Hi, I'm Joni Eareckson Tada with a quotation that you are going to like. Well, maybe you won’t like it. We’ll see. The quote originates with one of the early church fathers, Saint Sebastian, who helped guide the fledgling church back in the early 200s. Yikes, that is going back a ways to a time when persecution against Christians was hot and heavy. Back then, our brothers and sisters in Christ were heaven-bent on standing strong in the midst of life-threatening suffering; they set their face like flint on the hope of heaven, committed to hold on until the end, until they saw their Savior and heard those wonderful words: “Well done.” But, as you’d guess, there were others. Others who collapsed under the weight, caved in, threw in the spiritual towel and recanted their faith. For them, suffering for Christ – that is suffering as a Christian – was just too hard. In the midst of all this, Sebastian spoke wise and stirring words to his congregation. He said, “When we get to heaven, we will not regret that we suffered; we will regret that we suffered so little, and that little, so badly.” His words were intended to shame those who were quietly intending to renounce or disavow the blood of Christ over their lives. With that brief sentence, Sebastian was inasmuch saying: “Don’t you dare forsake, don’t you dare abandon your Lord in these trying times. Yes, life is hard and our adversaries are vicious, but God's reputation is riding on the back of your response to these times and these trials. Don’t give your neighbors reason to think that your God isn’t worth it; isn’t worth staying the course. That His grace is insufficient; don’t let them think that He’s not strong enough to sustain you, because He is. He is your ever-present help in any and every trouble.” That was good advice for Christians many, many hundreds of years ago and its great advice for you and me today, because we, too, need to be heaven-bent on standing strong when trials hit us hard. We, too, need to set our face like flint as we set our minds and hearts on things above where Christ is seated, where Christ is watching and yes, even interceding for us to stay the course and remain faithful to His name. Can we believe, will we believe, that God's grace is indeed enough for our problems? I pray so. Because I do not – and I don’t think you – want to be numbered among those who shame the reputation of Jesus. Like Hebrews says, “None of us have suffered to the point of shedding blood.” I mean, no one in your American cul-de-sac is being martyred today, right? So stay strong. Live well. Hold fast to the One who is holding you fast. Because you don’t want to be known as less in the kingdom of God (that’s right, the Bible speaks clearly of those who will considered lesser in the kingdom, just as there are those who will be great). Friend, don’t diminish or jeopardize the richness of your eternal destiny by caving in, or by throwing in the spiritual towel. Suffer well. Suffer faithfully. If you need prayer, if you are faltering; if you think you need help, then let us know at Joni and Friends, because we get it. We understand how hard hardship can be.
