This was my big question for today's guest, Zora Benhamou, the Queen of Mid-Life Hacks. What did I mean? Is it ever too late to eat healthy, start an exercise routine, or learn to meditate? Zora's answer surprised me, she said It's Never Too Late! However, there's no time like the present to get started. The longer you wait, the fewer results you may see. She made some excellent suggestions on how to get started, Exercise is a key component. But, how much is enough, and is walking the best place to start? Walking is a good place for most of us to start, HOWEVER, adding more muscle to your body can truly change how your body ages. Here's how adding in some weight training can help: Improved Cardiovascular Health: Increased muscle mass is linked to better heart health. Increased Energy and Metabolism: Muscles burn more calories than fat, boosting metabolism and energy levels. Improved Cognitive Function: Muscle health is associated with better cognitive function, and strength training may enhance it. Increased Longevity: Greater muscular strength is linked to increased longevity. And this is just a partial list of all the benefits of adding strength work. Zora had more suggestions for hacking your age. One of my favorites was making my skin look tighter and less crepey. Midlife girls, you know exactly what I'm talking about! She recommended trying the Vitali products, which I ordered immediately. Fingers crossed. I'm trying the body creme and skin serum. I will keep you posted on my results! https://www.vitaliskincare.com/discount/cancerwarrior?ref=cbkmpsij ______ Vitali Regenerative Skin Care Have you heard about copper peptides? I hadn't either until I listened to today's guest talk about them on her podcast. She interviewed the founder of Vitali Regenerative Skin Care, Debbi Barber. I was so intrigued with their discussion about copper peptides and how they can soften scars, regenerate skin, and even help crepey skin look better. It's not often that I stop what I'm doing, read research, and order the products, but that's precisely what I did! And then I emailed Vitali Skin Care and asked for a coupon for my community. In hindsight, I should have asked for the coupon for my order, but nonetheless, you get 20% off your order! I'm trying the body creme and skin serum. I will keep you posted on my results! https://www.vitaliskincare.com/discount/cancerwarrior?ref=cbkmpsij ______ Parafy worm kit You're not alone if you've ever wondered what's lurking in your body! Let's start with, What the Heck is a Hack? A hack is a small change or a shortcut designed to improve your life. Today's guest, Zora Benhamou, is the Queen of Midlife Health Hacks. She's also someone who, despite living a very active life, ended up with osteoarthritis.  She tried to avoid surgery for as long as possible. How was she able to do that? She used a few health hacks to get as much "life" out of her hips as possible. She tried PRP, physical therapy, and an anti-inflammatory diet. On the podcast, she discusses a few more hacks that you've got to hear about! Let's also talk about scars. Zora ended up with two hip replacements, and she tried a few different hacks to lessen her scarring. She used a copper peptide cream on one scar and a different product on the other. The copper peptide scar improved so much that she started using it on both wounds, and she's thrilled with the results! I just bought this copper peptide cream, Zora suggested using the link below (20% off!) https://www.vitaliskincare.com/discount/cancerwarrior?ref=cbkmpsij ____ Water Filtration: Boroux I've been looking for a water filter for two years. Okay, maybe I'm a little picky...but my research paid off. I've chosen the Boroux Filter system and am really happy with it. Are you curious about my criteria? Here's what I was looking for in a filter: Removal of heavy metals. The Boroux removes 99.36% of heavy metals. Pharmaceuticals are removed. Because people don't dispose of drugs properly, the drugs get into our water system. The Boroux removes 99.5% of pharmaceutical contaminants. Glyphosate removal (glyphosate is the active ingredient in Roundup and is a known carcinogen). A year ago, I was tested for glyphosate and was in the 95th percentile. I was shocked! Since I was already eating mainly organic, my doctor suggested getting a water filter. I had a challenging time finding one that would filter this chemical, and this was one of my main drivers for purchasing this filter. Boroux has a special offer for my community. Why are childhood cancers on the rise? Is there any news more heartbreaking than hearing about another child diagnosed with cancer? Reflecting on my own childhood, I remember a friend from seventh grade who was diagnosed with cancer. Surprisingly, that was the only case I encountered from kindergarten all the way through my college graduation. What has changed in our world that has exponentially increased the risk of cancer for our children and young people? I spoke with Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner Season Johnson. She is also a cancer mom who helped her son battle cancer for nearly four years. Her son is thriving now, and she shares tips and guidance on how to help protect your kids from this disease. She offered some tips I hadn't even considered, and now I'm implementing them! Please listen to the episode and share this information with all your friends who are parents or grandparents! P.S. I've only "met" Season online, but last month, while I was in San Diego, I saw her walking down the street with a cup of coffee. I ran over to say hi—what a small world! ____ Water Filtration: Boroux  I've been looking for a water filter for two years. Okay, maybe I'm a little picky...but my research paid off. 116. Take a Chill Pill. Is staying peaceful the key to health?…with Dr. Natalie Greenberg (Re-Release)

Oh Lord, help me to relax and push the pause button. Today's guest, Dr. Natalie Greenberg from The Center for New Medicine, explained how important it is for my health to hit the pause button. She also mentioned that when life gets overwhelming, It's crucial to pause and take a deep breath before reacting to any situation. Her words spoke to me. I tend to be an "over-responder." I might get irritated with someone before I have all the information about a situation. I might wake up upset because of a restless night, and my negative thoughts kick in, telling me how tough the day will be. How could my life be different if, instead of following my default of reacting, I took a minute, slowed down my breathing, pushed the pause button, gathered my thoughts, and then responded INSTEAD of reacting? Nervous System: This would help my body stay in a parasympathetic state (the rest and digest state), so my body wouldn't produce as many stress hormones. This means I'd have lower levels of inflammation and, honestly, better relationships! Immune System: Staying calm supports the immune system and allows your body to produce more "happy hormones," such as serotonin and melatonin, which means you fall asleep faster. The Joy Factor: thinking the best about people means I look for joy everywhere I go. When I see someone wearing a cute outfit or making me a fabulous matcha latte, I PRAISE THEM! The Bible says, to the best of my abilities, be at peace with people at all times. Pro tip: The scripture above says that, to the best of my abilities, sometimes it's impossible to be at peace with some people, and you know what? That's okay, too. The older I get, the more I realize my gift to people is letting them be who they are. ____ Water Filtration: Boroux  I've been looking for a water filter for two years. Okay, maybe I'm a little picky...but my research paid off. I've chosen the Boroux Filter system and am really happy with it. Are you curious about my criteria? Honestly, I get food and supplement samples almost weekly! Last week, a San Diego company called Just Add Buoy emailed me to ask if I wanted to try their electrolyte formula. I said yes because I've been looking for an electrolyte formula (without tons of sugar, both fake and real and no dyes) for years. They sent me some samples, and I must tell you how much I love them. I'm trying the Hydration Drops, and they have 87 trace minerals, Ionic ocean electrolytes, and antioxidants. And, also important to me, NO SUGAR (FAKE OR REAL), NO ADDITIVES OR DYES. Make America Healthy Again? Have we ever been healthy? I've been in the health field for thirty-five years. In all that time, I had never heard a news media report on red dyes in food. For the first time, I'm encouraged by the future of our American food system! For me, this is not a political issue. I truly want to give people the same opportunities that I have. I know how to read labels and avoid cancer-causing ingredients in my food. Most people don't. Americans are starting to question our food manufacturers. That's a big first step in eliminating harmful ingredients from food (many of which have been banned in Europe for decades). Today's podcast, with MAHA advocate and activist Kelly Ryerson, made me sad and mad. Kelly (Glyphosate Girl) discussed the damage glyphosate (the active ingredient in Roundup) does to our environment and bodies. Kelly has spent years in the trenches explaining why this chemical is so dangerous to anyone who would listen. It's such an easy default to use a heavy chemical load to kill weeks. Did you know there are simple alternatives to using such a large amount of chemicals in farming? Kelly also explained that while this product is sold in Europe, the company that makes Roundup has created a less toxic alternative for sale in Europe. This, to me, is mind-blowing! If they can make a less harmful version that still works for Europe, can't one be made for the US as well? ____ Toups and Co It's happened...I'm putting beef tallow on my face, and my skin looks lush, and it doesn't smell like a hamburger :) I've seen the TikTok videos about beef tallow. I avoided trying it because it sounded like I'd be putting grease on my face. Enough people asked me about it, so I started reading more information and trying out various tallows. There was one company that stood out to me. I feel like I hit a home run with the brand Toups and Co. I first heard of this brand on a friend's podcast (Holistic Hilda with the Weston A Price Foundation). She interviewed the founder, Emily Toups. She was a mom looking for a solution to her child's skin issues. She was frustrated with the lack of progress with drugstore and prescription meds, so she reached out to a local farmer for tallow. The rest, as they say, is history. Her daughter is healed, and my skin looks great, haha! Thank you, Toups Family, for making such excellent products and offering my community a 15% discount. My friend Kim loves crime stories from Crime Junkie to Dateline. Me? Not so much. But I enjoy a good, not-too-gory crime story where the bad guy gets it in the end. Since I'm part of a vast cancer community, I hear stories that encourage me and some that make me so upset that I can't sleep. This is one of those stories. In 1898, Pierre and Madam Curie discovered radium. In 1903, Pierre Curie said, "He would not care to be alone with radium in a room as it would burn all the skin off his body, destroy his eyesight, and probably kill him."  In the 1920s, young women (average age 14) were hired to paint radium on watches and clock dials. Radium was fluorescent, so it made the numbers easier to read. However, it was also incredibly toxic and could turn bones into a fragile honeycomb. Fast forward to New Jersey in 1920 to the U.S. Radium Corporation (USRC). The owners and scientists at USRC knew that radium in large amounts was very dangerous. Yet these young girls were told, "After you dip your paintbrush in radium, put the tip in your mouth to make it a finer point before you start painting." When I told my husband how many of these young women died from radium poisoning, he said, "This is murder." Yes, it was murder. But no one went to jail. However, these women did get their revenge. ______ Ground Luxe When I was forced into menopause with my cancer diagnosis, restful sleep NO LONGER HAPPENED FOR ME. One of my podcast guests shared that he has become a great sleeper, partly thanks to grounding sheets. After my skepticism passed, my desperation to sleep took over. I started reading articles, and I discovered that the science is solid. Studies have shown that participants using grounding sheets experience a significant drop in cortisol levels, leading to improved sleep quality and reduced stress.  What did I have to lose? I researched, found the best grounding sheets on the market for the best price, and bought them. It took me a few nights, but I sleep much deeper now. I fall asleep faster and wake up feeling refreshed! I wish someone had told me about these sheets years ago. And before I was diagnosed with breast cancer, I never gave it a second thought. Alcohol was part of my social life, or I'd have a glass of wine on a flight to chill out. Recent research has made me rethink my choices. Research shared by the Susan G. Komen Center tells us that each cocktail I consume can increase my breast cancer risk by 7%. And 2-3 drinks per day can increase my risk by 20%. This is why I always have Martinelli Apple Cider on hand. It's my favorite Mocktail!

Oh, if I had a time machine and could return to when our kids were young, I would. I made my life complicated because I made our meals complicated. Let me explain: I became a mom at 40. I married Steve, who had two precious (most of the time ) daughters. So, I became an instant mom to two preteens, and as a bonus, I could finally use my nutrition training on my family. Hmmm...do you see any potential problems? I would make elaborate, nutrient-dense multi-course meals. These meals were so much work that I was almost too tired to eat or clean the kitchen. When the kids complained that the lunches I packed could feed three of their friends, it didn't faze me a bit. But they were so much work! We would order pizza if I was running late from work and couldn't make the elaborate meals. I couldn't seem to find the middle ground. As I shared this story with today's podcast guest, Dr. Tabatha Barber, she explained that most of her meals can be put together in 20 minutes or less—I say YES to that idea! Dr. Tabatha is the author of Fast To Faith, a best-selling book that contains her 20-minute or less recipes. ______ Ground Luxe When I was forced into menopause with my cancer diagnosis, restful sleep NO LONGER HAPPENED FOR ME. What a treat to have Dr. Tabatha Barber, author of the best-selling book Fast To Faith, on the podcast. She explained that our bodies function like a chemistry experiment. When we think in a certain way, we produce chemicals that can have positive or negative effects. I don't know about you, but I do find it shocking that the thoughts I think can create chemical messengers in my body that can heal me or harm me. You have so much more power than you realize! We also discussed a topic near and dear to my heart, JOY. Where's your joy? If we put everyone else first, that will steal your happiness. Dr. T. explained that we get caught up in the lie that taking care of ourselves is selfish. She said that she felt God tell her that caring for herself wasn't selfish but SELF PRESERVATION. Dr. Tabatha shared simple tips that can help you to change your mindset and increase your daily joy. Please enjoy part one of this conversation and join us next week when we talk about 20-minute or less dinners, fasting, and her lifelong battle with depression. ______ Young Living Here's the link to my favorite essential oil kit from Young Living! 110. Pressing Pause: Navigating Cancer with Dr. Laura James, Naturopathic Oncologist (RE RELEASE)

In today's episode, we are joined by my naturopathic oncologist, Dr. Laura James. As you listen to our discussion, it's essential to acknowledge the whirlwind that accompanies a cancer diagnosis. For many, including myself, the speed at which treatment unfolds can be both a blessing and a challenge. The urgency of medical intervention, coupled with the support of excellent health insurance and the unique circumstances of the COVID-19 era, can lead to a swift entry into what is commonly referred to as the breast cancer industrial complex. But what exactly does this term mean? It's a new concept that encompasses medical advancements, institutional processes, and societal expectations surrounding cancer treatment. While grateful for the prompt attention and care received, there's an underlying need to address the implications of this fast-paced medical industry. For me, and perhaps for many others, navigating the breast cancer industrial complex has raised questions about agency, reflection, and informed decision-making. The speed at which decisions are made can sometimes overshadow the opportunity for thorough consideration, prayer, and seeking second opinions—elements crucial to holistic well-being. Together with Dr. James, we'll explore the importance of empowerment in the face of medical urgency, the role of advocacy in navigating treatment pathways, and the significance of holistic approaches to cancer care. ______ Air Dr. I've been using the Air Doctor air purifier for almost a year and absolutely love it! Buckle up for today's episode with The Oncology Dietician, Nichole Andrews. I like having cocktails with girlfriends. I work too damn hard on my health to increase my breast cancer risk by 20% for something I often do mindlessly. Does this mean I don't drink any alcohol? NOPE. This means that if I really want that glass of wine, I will make an informed decision and enjoy every sip. The "old" me would have grabbed the wine and probably a second glass without considering what it might be doing inside my body. According to today's guest, she believes there are only two things that we consume that can really increase our risk of getting cancer. Alcohol is one. Any guesses as to what number two is? I wish I could have a "do-over" in two areas of my life: Prioritizing my morning schedule Speaking positively about situations or people instead of negatively. When my morning routine is off, the rest of my day suffers. I've FINALLY learned to listen to my inner voice, which advises me to take it slow in the morning instead of jumping straight into emails and calls. I give three tips on starting my day on today's podcast. Here's a sneak peek at one of my tips: TURN OFF THE LOUD ALARM ON YOUR PHONE. Hearing a loud noise while sleeping immediately puts your body into a stressful situation. Your blood pressure and heart rate increase, and your body starts making stress hormones. It can take hours for your body to calm down. Instead, I found some gentle instrumental music and used that as my alarm sound. This simple morning hack has added much-needed calmness to my morning, and I find that relaxed "vibe" spills over into the rest of my day. Winning! Confession time: I'm not always upbeat and cheery. Shocking, huh? I find that when my stress level goes up, my mindset and attitude get a little, well, poopy. Last week, I decided to spend a week making only positive statements. Guess what? It was a little quiet around my house because I wasn't complaining about the world, news, my recent breast reconstruction, you name it. I learned a valuable lesson: sometimes, when I want to connect with my husband after work, it's easier to default to negative. UGH, help me. I'm a work in progress, but I am learning. Listen to today's short solo episode to learn more of my simple tips for encouraging yourself and lowering your morning stress levels. HELP! Reading labels takes a lot of time, and even with a science degree, I have a hard time figuring out what's good and what's bad. If I'm struggling, I guess you are as well. Food companies must convince you that their product is the best item on the supermarket shelves. Their marketing message is on the front, and the truth is on the back. For example, I picked up a package of high-protein chips at Costco. The front of the package said, "made with the highest quality ingredients." Well, that's great. I flipped the bag over and saw they use canola, sunflower, and safflower oils. These oils are highly inflammatory AND highly processed, NOT GREAT. I hate to say it, but you'll need to assume that most food companies are not going to tell you the truth. It reminds me of that movie with Jack Nicholson and Diane Keeton, Something's Gotta Give. In it, he tells her, "I've always told you some version of the truth," and she responds, "The Truth Doesn't Have Versions!" Unfortunately, there are many versions of the truth in the food world. Today, we're talking about a topic that might make you squirm in your seat—parasites and worms! These creepy crawlies can hitch into our bodies through contaminated water, food, and less-than-sanitary conditions and wreak havoc. Now, I'll be the first to admit that when my guest Kim Rogers, also known as “The Worm Queen” of TikTok, reached out to me, I hesitated. Who wants to know about the creatures lurking inside us, right? But knowledge is power and if understanding more about parasites and worms could help me stay healthy, it's time for an uncomfortable conversation. We talked about the not-so-glamorous aspects of bodily functions—yes, that means we went into the topic of pooping quite a bit. But beyond the initial discomfort, Kim shares some invaluable insights into detox pathways and what she calls the three P's: peeing, perspiration, and, you guessed it, pooping. So, buckle up, folks. Let's learn all about these little buggers - and how to protect ourselves from them!  About Dr. Kim Rogers Kim Rogers AKA “The Worm Queen” journey reads like the tale of a true pioneer in holistic healing. With nearly two decades of experience in the allopathic medical field, Kim honed her skills and expertise, becoming a powerhouse in healthcare management, radiography, and medical specialties. Her academic prowess, including a Bachelor of Science with a focus on Health Services Management & HR, and an Associate of Occupational Studies with a major in Radiography and a minor in Psychology, marked her as a standout achiever. However, despite her extensive background and immersion in traditional medicine, Kim found herself at a crossroads when her health began to deteriorate despite the conventional approaches she knew so well. Her pivotal moment came with her first experience using Paraguard for a parasite cleanse, an event she openly documented on TikTok. The viral sensation that followed showcased her remarkable results and ignited a global movement of individuals seeking alternatives to the cyclical frustrations of mainstream medicine. Two years of rigorous research, experimentation, and personal cleansing experiences culminated in the creation of Parafy—a comprehensive protocol designed to offer individuals the most effective, supportive, and successful path to parasite cleansing. Kim's tireless dedication to uncovering holistic solutions and her unwavering commitment to educating and uplifting others have solidified her status as a trailblazer in the natural health and wellness community.  Connect With Kim Rogers Website  Instagram Facebook TikTok YouTube Disclaimer: Cleansing Exclusion While cleansing may offer benefits for many individuals, it's important to recognize that it's not suitable for everyone. Have you ever met someone and the hairs on the back of your neck stood up? Have you ever "felt" like something would happen, and then it did? I was on a business trip a few years ago, and as I got into my rental car at night in a big city, I felt a voice say, "Lock the door now!" For a split second, I tried to "reason" with the voice so I could put my handbag down and put on my seatbelt. Well, I quickly locked the door at about the same time some very scary-looking guy was trying to get into my car! My big takeaway- listen to that still, small voice inside; it will never steer you wrong. In today's episode with Dr. Sarah Trask, we discuss that still-small voice regarding our health. Is there a reason people get sick that has almost NOTHING to do with how they eat and how much they exercise? You will be surprised by some of her answers and the simple tips to lower your risk of getting any illness. I learned a lot from Sarah today and became emotional several times during our conversation.   About Dr. Sarah Trask Sarah is an honours graduate of the Canadian College of Homeopathic Medicine, the only Canadian institution accredited by the Council for Homeopathic Certification and fully recognised by the Accreditation Commission for Homeopathic Education in North America. One thing I never considered during my experience with cancer was the body's ability to heal  itself.  Although I was a holistic nutritionist, my focus was primarily on food. When it came to healing, it was best left to medical professionals. After all, how could the body heal without drugs or medical intervention? Honestly, if someone had told me to focus on healing my body by getting more sleep, eating organic foods, spending time in nature, managing my stress, and maintaining a spiritual practice, I would have thought, "Sure, that might help me feel better," but would it contribute to my healing? Today's guest, Dr. Sarah Trask, taught me about homeopathy.  She shared with me that when she was in homeopathy school, she contracted food poisoning during class; she was nauseous and was about to leave the class. The teacher used her food poisoning as a "teachable moment" for the students. Her teacher gave her a homeopathic treatment, and within minutes, she was better. She was sold on the power of homeopathy. Sarah's podcast today features some astounding stories of healing. I had so many takeaways, and I hope you do, too! As hard as I try, I still get caught up in "being busy." What does this mean? I'm asking myself the same question! It means I want to achieve and accomplish much each day. However, I often do this at the expense of my personal care. For example, my morning routine is sacred to me. I get up, read my Bible, write in my gratitude journal, get outside, and let's not forget the key component - DRINK MY COFFEE! In January, I committed to lifting more weights to gain more muscle. There's a class that's offered at 7 am. I love the class, but now my morning routine is out of whack, and subsequently, the rest of my day is a bit wonky. I've gone back to prioritizing my morning routine and exercising later in the day (I don't love exercising later, but my morning routine is pivotal for productivity). Hearing the words, "You have cancer," had to be the biggest shock of my life. My oncologist advised me to go off of all hormone treatment immediately. So, within 48 hours, I had a cancer diagnosis, hot flashes, night sweats, brain fog, and painful sex. I'm a pretty happy and upbeat person, but the combination of this diagnosis, along with all of these other important things, was almost too much. Today's guest, Dr. Corinne Menn, believes that our treatment of women in menopause can be downright inhumane. She explained that there are better ways to move women off of hormones during cancer and that there rarely needs to be an immediate change. We also talked about the importance of having a positive and enjoyable sexual relationship. She was saying that so many of her patients have given up on sex due to pain. Dr. Menn explained the power of vaginal estrogen and how this one change can result in significant changes. Listen to the episode to learn how to Make Sex Great Again! Let's talk about menopause.  When I was in my twenties, most of my nutrition clients were in their 50s. I would talk to them about hot flashes, low libido, and weight gain and "what they could do about it," exercise more, eat less, you know, the drill. I remember a few of my clients laughing at me and saying, "Oh, honey, in thirty years, give us a call and let us know what you think of the advice you're giving us!" Fast forward to 2020, when I was forced into INSTANT menopause after my breast cancer diagnosis, and oh goodness, I'm mortified by my lack of compassion and understanding of menopause in my twenties. Today's guest is Dr. Corinne Menn. She's a menopause expert, a world-renowned OB-GYN, and a twenty-four-year breast cancer survivor.  Dr. Menn explained that a recent study discovered that only 7% of ob/gyns were comfortable talking to their patients about menopause. We all have those regrets about things we wish we had done or known sooner in life, don't we? Lately, I've been having some fun on my podcasts by asking guests what advice they would share with their younger selves. The answers have been so surprising and insightful! It made me think about what advice I would give my 25-year-old self. I'd tell her: Don't make decisions based on fear. Push the pause button before you respond to a negative situation. Don't WORRY! God will always work it out. I hate to admit that I've spent a considerable chunk of my adulthood making decisions based on fear. Fear complicates, and truth liberates. I wish I would have understood that in my younger years. But it's never too late, and I can tell you that cancer changed me. I had a choice of being frozen by fear or pushing the pause button when fearful thoughts came rushing in. Pushing the pause button, for me, meant taking a moment to breathe, ask more questions, gather more information, and not get caught up in the whirlwind of fearful thoughts.  I can't say that I never go down the rabbit hole of scary thoughts, but it happens much less often than it used to!  That's progress, baby. I am making an effort to stay in a peaceful state. I focus on pressing the pause button before I respond, remembering to pause and take intentional breaths. I learned these techniques from reading the book Breath. Additionally, I move my body several times daily and stand during work calls or podcast recordings. I also take 1-2 exercise classes each week. I also use essential oils such as lavender and "calming" blend I buy from Young Living Oils (link below!). I still go outside every morning, rain or shine, and look toward the sunrise, as this helps reset my circadian rhythm, which helps me fall asleep faster and stay asleep. I use Class Pass to stay active, which allows me to move my workouts inside if the weather is terrible. I can also use Class Pass while traveling to try different workouts. I love it! I protect my sleeping environment by lowering the lights at night and wearing my blue light blockers (this helps my body produce more melatonin). We also use an Air Doctor machine in our bedroom; I bought one because so many people I respect in this field were talking about them, and I love it! Spending time with toxic people can affect your health in the following ways: It can increase your sympathetic response, leading to higher heart rate, blood pressure, and breathing rate. Your body may produce more stress hormones, which can cause inflammation. It can also damage your confidence and affect your sense of identity. How do you move the toxic people out of your life, especially if they are family members? Dr. Jantz suggested having a friend or spouse nearby when dealing with difficult family members at events. If you get upset, use a pre-agreed safe word to signal for support in removing yourself from the situation. With some pre-planning, you can avoid getting caught up in their negativity. Listen to today's podcast to hear the rest of Dr. J.'s tips on dealing with toxic people. About Dr. Gregory Jantz Dr. Jantz is the founder of The Center A Place of HOPE in Edmonds, Washington, voted a Top Ten facility for Depression Treatment in the United States. 91. Take a Chill Pill. Is staying peaceful the key to health?…with Dr. Natalie Greenberg

Take a Chill Pill. As you can imagine, that certainly got his attention! We talked about the ways he's changed his life today after that heart attack. What did we discuss? One is the impact of unnatural lighting on our health. Staying inside, under fluorescent lights, a lack of activity, and processed foods all significantly contribute to our health. We also had a great discussion about the circadian rhythm. When you're sleeping, your body runs surveillance and gets rid of and cleans up all the damaged cells. Want a peek at the top three questions I get asked every week? What do you do differently after having cancer? How has your eating changed? How have you changed? I've changed dramatically since my cancer diagnosis in 2020. Before my diagnosis, I thought I was "nailing" my health. I worked out hard, ate lots of salads, and monitored my weight. Here's what I wasn't "nailing" rest, sleep, stress management, forgiveness, and community. These are crazy concepts to hear from a certified nutritionist who'd been in the health field for over thirty years! Forgiveness? Community? When I got my Health Science and Exercise Physiology degree and my two-year nutrition certification, I learned what foods to eat to avoid disease and what foods to eat to manage disease. Life has taught me that my thoughts can be as important as what I eat and that forgiveness is a gift for you, not for the person who hurt you. And that your community is one of the most essential parts of staying healthy and thriving!   In this episode, I talk about: What I think contributed to my getting cancer. What I eat now vs. then. Could a simple change in diet hold the key to transforming pediatric cancer care? Today, we have a truly special guest, Season Johnson, a Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner dedicated to working with pediatric patients. I discovered Season on Instagram and was immediately drawn to her compelling story and expertise.  Season's own son was diagnosed with cancer at a young age, and her family's journey through this experience has shaped her mission to help others navigate the complexities of cancer treatment and nutrition.  In today's episode, we dive into Season's unique approach to nutritional therapy for children battling cancer. We'll look at rising pediatric cancer rates and how environmental factors like food toxins and EMFs might play a role. Season also shares practical tips for parents, including the benefits of sunlight, outdoor play, and a balanced diet to create a healthier environment for their children. Hit play and get inspired—because fighting cancer just got a whole lot smarter! In this episode: Season shares her son's diagnosis with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Season talks about her initial resistance to traditional medicine and how she balanced it with alternative treatments to support her son's health.  Season opens up about the emotional rollercoaster her family experienced — from sleepless nights in the hospital to the constant worry about her son's health.  “It was a choice I had to make: am I going to let this define me, cross my arms, and sit back as a victim of our circumstances, or am I going to step up, realize I have a role to play, and not be passive?” - Season Studies show that environmental factors are a major contributor to cancer cases, including in kids, making up about 95-97% of cases. While genetics play a role in how we deal with toxins, the increased exposure to pollutants like electromagnetic fields from tech and various chemicals is a big concern. Simple steps that parents can take now to create an environment for their kids where cancer cannot survive in. How morning light affects our bodies' natural healing rhythms. Tips to manage nutrition for picky eaters during cancer treatment. How activities like bouncing on a trampoline help with detoxification and waste removal in the body. Season explains that while everyone produces cancer cells daily, whether these cells develop into tumors depends on our immune system and genetic predispositions. The good news is that 99% of these genetic variations can be influenced by our nutrition and detox efforts. Season shares some key practices to ensure our detox pathways are functioning properly, including staying hydrated, regular bowel movements, and using a sauna. Key nutritional benefits of organ meats for overall health and cancer support. Creative ways to incorporate organ meat into your family's diet, especially for kids.  What does "chemo-protective" mean in the context of foods and their effects on the body during cancer treatment? How often should you replace the things you do to effectively reduce toxins and improve overall health? How chlorella and chlorophyll protect us against radiation damage and support detoxification.  “God has given me this incredible ability, and it's deeply rewarding. The pediatric cancer field may not be lucrative, but it offers the profound opportunity to give families hope. Having walked this path myself years ago, it is an honor to turn that experience into a source of hope and support for others.” - Season Season highlights the vital role of community during cancer treatment. About Season Johnson Season Johnson is a Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner, Founder of The KICKcancER Movement, and a cancer mom who transitioned from having one child with cancer to supporting thousands worldwide. After her son's cancer diagnosis at age two and enduring a 3.5-year battle with daily chemotherapy and numerous surgeries, she developed an unwavering mission to help others thrive through cancer using real food, supplementation, detoxification, and environmental adjustments. She has received the Weston A. Price Foundation Activist Award and the Children's Health Advocate Award from the Nutritional Therapy Association for her work with pediatric cancer. I always love looking back on what I've learned and the first part of 2024 hasn't disappointed. I've had some incredible guests on the show this year and I've taken the time to distill some powerful insights from our conversations. Today I want to re-share my top takeaways of the year so far. First up, we have some incredible clips from Dr. Josh Axe, a world-renowned naturopath, leadership author, and speaker. Dr. Axe experienced a debilitating medical accident that left him unable to walk for a year, during which he wrote his book, “Think This, Not That.” The lessons he learned are truly golden, and I've picked my top four lessons to share with you, including the power of mindset.  Next, we'll revisit our episode with Liz Curran from the Radical Remission Project. We explored the 10 healing factors common among individuals who achieve radical remissions from diseases like cancer. One fascinating topic was the concept of being “too good of a patient” and the importance of laughter in healing. Did you know kids laugh about 300 times a day, while adults only manage 8-12 laughs daily? It's a reminder for all of us to embrace our inner child and find joy in everyday moments. The last lesson I want to share came from Kris Carr, an Oprah Super Soul guest, and a 21-year cancer survivor. Kriss lives with 24 inoperable tumors and has learned to love her body, tumors and all. Her journey of self-love and resilience is profoundly moving, especially since I struggled with body acceptance after my own breast surgery.  Don't miss these powerful lessons and heartwarming stories. When people mentioned eating organ meat, I had flashbacks to my childhood and my grandma making liver and onions. Believe me when I say it wasn't a positive experience. Humans have eaten organ meats since prehistoric times, and they're rich in vitamins, minerals, and amino acids – including some that aren't commonly found in plant foods. Today's podcast guest is James Barry, celebrity chef to George Clooney and Barbra Streisand (to namedrop a bit). James knows the power of eating organ meats but he also understands the ICK FACTOR. That's why he created a super yummy way to include organ meats in your daily diet by using salt! He created a savory salt (to me it tastes like a healthy version of Lowery's season salt), and I use it on eggs, salads, and popcorn. I learned much from today's podcast with mold expert Bridgit Danner. I've never given much thought about mold and the impact it could have on chronic disease or even cancer! When Bridgit explained that chemical warfare is often made from a mold, she got my attention! If mold is strong enough to be used in a bomb, what kind of havoc can it create in my body? Listen to today's episode to learn more about this fascinating topic.   Information About Today's Guest, Bridgit Danner: www.BridgitDanner.com Links to Bridgit's Books: The Ultimate Guide to Toxic Mold Recovery: Take Back Your Home, Health & Life Your Complete Guide to Health Recovery from Toxic Mold According to Dr. Isaac Eliaz: "You may not be aware of it, but mold is probably affecting your health. So even if it's not on your mind, “how to detox your body from mold” should be something we all need to be asking. Even if mold is making you sick, you might not know it's the source of your symptoms. That's because mold toxicity can act like many other conditions, so it often goes misdiagnosed and untreated. Exposure can cause many different symptoms, including: Fatigue Cough Shortness of breath Fever Headache Joint pain Memory problems Dizziness Sinus infections Wheezing Trouble concentrating Sensitivity to light Skin rash Digestive problems One of the main reasons mold toxins can cause so many different symptoms is this: These toxins can suppress or damage your immune system. Not only can they bring on symptoms themselves, they can make you more vulnerable to other illnesses. Surrounded by Mold Mold exposure is shockingly common. It's found in the air, damp or water-damaged buildings, even the food you're eating. Foods that commonly contain mold include cereal grains, nuts, spices, coffee, bulk foods (like the kind you buy from bins to save money) and dairy products. You come across mold inside and outside, and it can travel around with you. Mold spores can attach to things like: Clothing Shoes Pets Reusable grocery bags That means it can come home with you from just about anywhere. And if it ends up somewhere even slightly damp, it will grow and multiply. In nature, mold speeds up the break down (decomposition) of things like dead trees and fallen leaves. Some molds are used to make cheese or create antibiotics. But many types of mold can be hazardous to your health. These molds produce mycotoxins, poisons that can cause severe health problems and a wide variety of symptoms. The two most common harmful mycotoxins are aflatoxin and ochratoxin, and exposure to either (or both) of these can trigger substantial health issues — from chronic allergies to cancer. What's more, if your body can't remove these toxins on its own, they can slip into long-term storage to cause lasting or recurring damage. Mycotoxins Damage Your Health Mycotoxins are sneaky. While mold itself can't enter your bloodstream — though it can hang around and colonize in spots like your nostrils and lungs — mycotoxins can get into your bloodstream and circulate throughout your body. These opportunistic toxins can hijack your immune system, making you more vulnerable to infections. If your immune system is already compromised (such as people with autoimmune conditions or undergoing cancer treatment), mycotoxins take advantage. If you're healthy, they can make you very sick. Studies show that mycotoxins can: Cause lung inflammation that can make it harder to breathe Disrupt your gut health by reducing beneficial bacteria and encouraging pathogens Trigger chronic fatigue syndrome Affect brain function and cognition Cause liver damage, including cancer Worsen allergy and asthma symptoms Unfortunately, mold toxicity is frequently misdiagnosed. Because of its wide-ranging effects, it's typically mistaken for other conditions including depression, multiple sclerosis, or autoimmune conditions. Plus, because mycotoxins are opportunistic, they're often connected with debilitating diseases such as Lyme disease, IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) and fibromyalgia." In today's episode, we are joined by my naturopathic oncologist, Dr. This podcast made me both sad and MAD. I interviewed Glyphosate Girl, Kelly Ryerson about the damage glyphosate (the active ingredient in Roundup) does to our environment and our bodies. Kelly Ryerson has spent years in the trenches explaining to anyone who would listen why this chemical is so dangerous. It's such an easy default to just use a heavy load of chemicals to kill weeks. Did you know that there are simple alternatives to using such a large amount of chemicals in farming? Kelly also explained to me that while this product is sold in Europe, the company that makes Roundup has created a less toxic alternative for sale in Europe. This to me is mind-blowing! If they can make a less toxic version for Europe that still works, can't one be made for the US as well? Kelly Ryerson works at the intersection of agriculture and health. She regularly collaborates with farmers, scientists, policymakers, and media to address agrochemical damage to our soil and bodies. She also started the news site Glyphosate Facts, which explains the link between chemical agriculture and the explosion in chronic disease. Kelly has contributed to several documentaries and news publications, co-hosts the morning show on CHDtv, and is a frequent podcast speaker. She is an Ambassador for The Rodale Institute. She has a BA from Dartmouth College, an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business, and completed training in integrative health coaching at Duke Integrative Medicine.  Check out Kelly's website GlyphosateFacts.com, where she has multiple studies listed. I admit that after thirty years in this field, I assume that most of my "health decisions" are correct. Yet, whenever I record a podcast, I discover more things I'm doing wrong! GRRRRR…. At this point, I have two options: Get frustrated at everything "I've yet to do…" OR Understand that knowledge is power, and one day at a time, incorporate new habits that can help lower disease risk. Of course, I'm choosing choice number 2! The small changes I make will eventually create a more significant impact. Fast forward to my conversation today with air quality expert Michael Rubino. Michael shared some recent studies that discovered a link between many cancers and air quality. My first thought was, "Sure, I can understand poor air quality and the link to lung cancer," but no, the study suggested that poor air quality can contribute to breast, pancreatic, and many other types of cancer. What?! The authors explained that pollution can impact our DNA and alter our immune response. This can increase inflammation, which contributes to cancer growth. The authors also suggested that in the case of digestive cancers, pollution can affect gut health and influence cancer development. Okay, now what? How do we make our homes safer without breaking the bank? Michael suggested some easy fixes, such as changing out your HVAC filter more regularly and having a good air purifier in the house. 71. Uncovering a Cancer Crime Story with Kate Moore, Author of The Radium Girls

This episode strays away from our usual path of interviews with oncologists and health experts. Today, we're going into the world of crime and consequence. I'm honored to be joined by Kate Moore, the brilliant mind behind "The Radium Girls." This book, a personal favorite of mine, not only captivated me but also disturbed me to the core.  Today's conversation isn't about your typical crime drama. It's about a crime that unfolded silently, hidden within the glow of radium, a substance once celebrated for its luminescent properties. But beneath its shimmering allure lies a dark truth—a truth that Kate's book fearlessly confronts. In an era where crime stories dominate our screens and shelves, we often forget the crimes silently committed against our health and environment. The story of the Radium Girls falls precisely into this category—a tale of betrayal, injustice, and the insidious impact of unchecked industrial practices. Join us as we discuss all of the unsettling details of this cancer crime story. Kate Moore, hailing from the UK, brings her expertise and passion to our conversation, guiding us through this haunting narrative. 70. RE-RELEASE: If Your Mom Had Breast Cancer, Does that Mean You Will, Too?

This is a topic I don't know much about, so I was looking forward to interviewing Cancer Prevention Coach and nurse, Krista. Krista's focus is on genetic testing because she's tested positive for a strong breast cancer gene, and she believes it's the same gene that caused her mother's breast cancer. I've always wondered: if a close relative had cancer does that mean I will get it too? What can you do to prevent cancer if it's a big part of your family history? How “close” does the relative with cancer have to be to increase your own risk? Are there tests that you can take to see if you have strong cancer genes? Krista answered all these questions and so many more. This is a tough topic, and I'll be honest a little scary when you think about getting tested to see if you have a higher likelihood of cancer. But Krista is very clear that knowledge is power, and it's better to understand the risks in your genetics so you can take action to lower your risk. We had an enlightening conversation about stress and its link to cancer. We are both in agreement that organic is best when it comes to produce, but we also understand that it can also be very expensive. We discussed some unique ways to eat organic produce (she suggests eating 8-10 servings per day) without blowing your food budget. Krista, BSN, RN, combines her diverse training in traditional medicine, integrative oncology, and functional nutrition to her work with patients at high risk of cancer due to inherited genetic mutations and/or family history. She is currently finishing her Master's degree at Arizona state University as part of the first Medical Nutrition program in the country. Her focus is nutrigenomics and personalized cancer prevention. She has training through Harvard Medical School in cancer genomics, precision oncology, and immuno-oncology. Krista truly believes knowledge is power, and considers herself a life-long learner. Her passion for prevention began amidst her mother's 12+ year battle with breast cancer which was caused by a genetic mutation. Krista, who is also a carrier of this mutation, has since dedicated her career to educating herself about cancer and showing others how to decrease risk as much as possible. She wants others to understand that genetics is just a small piece of the puzzle, and that their DNA is not their destiny. She owns a private nutrition practice in which she works closely with patients to create individualized prevention plans, and offers various courses throughout the year. Her goal is to empower patients with integrative nutrition and lifestyle modifications and teach them how to “fill their plates, and their lives, with purpose.” To learn more about upcoming classes Krista will be offering, you can follow her on Instagram (@cancer.prevention.coach)   Visit whydidigetcancer.com for full show notes. --- The Body Deli:  Here are my favorite products that are always in my bathroom: Creme de la Rose moisturizer. Conversations about health and healing often go above and beyond conventional medical treatments. Many holistic methods have been employed to supplement traditional treatment protocols and I had the privilege to talk with Liz Curran, co-director of the Radical Remission Project, about this very topic.  Witnessing her sister's battle with aggressive breast cancer ignited Liz's passion to empower individuals in their healing. As a Certified Radical Remission health coach, educator, and speaker, Liz bridges the gap between conventional medicine and holistic approaches  Our discussion was enlightening and deeply inspiring, as we talked about the impact laughter can have on healing. Often underestimated, laughter is a potent tool against illness. Its ability to uplift spirits, alleviate stress, and even enhance the efficacy of medical treatments highlights its significance in holistic wellness. Today, discover the unconventional approaches Liz uses to help pave the way for healing and restoration.
