I almost titled this podcast “On Aligning Your Practice with Your Capacity and Surrendering to the Air”. Both work. A question for you: What would it feel like to pause and breathe into a deep, longgggg stretch instead of a sprint? I need to continue challenging myself. Rigor, change and curiosity are the electricity of my life, I'm clear on that. Capricorn rising, Gemini Sun over here. But what might it look like to prioritize the steady over the surge, the flow over the wave? What might it look like to prioritize the practice over the launch? LAW 14 — CHAPTER 14: The Law of ExpansionGrowth Always Increases Your CapacityLEARN IT“Find The Edges and Move Them Out?”I. How to Increase Your Thinking CapacityA. Stop thinking more work and start thinking what works1. Capacity is not always about “more”. It starts with better.2. Ask these questions about what works:a. What am I required to do?b. What gives me the greatest return?c. What gives me the greatest reward?B. Stop thinking, can I? Start thinking how can I?1. The most common reason people do not overcome the odds is they don't challenge them enough.2. Ask this question: “What would you attempt if you knew you could not fail?”3. Discuss this truth: “Self-limiting statements always work.”4. Remember, most systems in nature are on a constant readjustment to correct the direction toward the goal.a. Body temperature is regulated by always correctingb. A flower grows by always responding to the sun5. Don't confuse the need to correct with failure.C. Stop thinking one door and start thinking many doors1. There are ALWAYS options2. There is more than one way to do something successfully3. The odds of arriving anywhere increase with creativity and adaptability.4. Movement with intentionality creates possibilities5. Failures and setbacks can be great tools for learning6. Knowing the future is difficult; controlling the future is impossible7. Knowing today is essential; controlling today is possible.8. Success is a result of continued action filled with continual adjustments.II. How To increase Your Capacity for ActionA. Stop doing only those things you have done and start doing those things you could and should do.1. Will you continue to do what you have always done? Or try something new?2. What we should do can and will shift in importance.3. Expansion requires leaving your comfort zone4. Making mistakes is a sign you are actually doing somethingB. Stop doing what is expected of you and start doing more than is expected.1. We live in a culture that gives trophies for just showing up2. Expanding means we must do more than is expectedC. Stop doing important things occasionally and start doing the important things daily1. When is the time to not do important things?2. Remember, success is determined in your daily plans. “Measure Your Capacity”III. Expand Your Capacity – Expand Your ImpactA. Your impact is a direct function of your capacityB. There is nothing in your past that determines your future – Your capacity must grow.C. Ask yourself where your impact is right now – now ask yourself where you would like your impact to be. That difference is the limits of your capacity.LEAD IT“When you live this law, you will show others the way and they empower them toFacilitation Questions OptionsOVERCOME GROWING PAINS(Specific Steps to Amazing Growth)• Have you made the transition from “I Can't!” or “Can I? To “How Can I?”• Do some dreaming and then ask yourself:If I knew I could not fail, what would I attempt? If I had no limitations, what would I like to do?If money were not an issue, what would I be doing with my life?• Do these things seem impossible, or possible? If they seem possible, then you are ready to expand.• Give yourself an effectiveness audit so that you can be sure you are thinking WHAT WORKS instead of MORE WORK.• Think about your own behavioral patterns. 576 - Focusing on Your Capacity with Lisa Faberga
In this the 40th episode of Your Mind is Trying To Kill You Podcast, Artist/Hypnotherapist, Alexandros Megas and Business Coach, Vincent Byrne discuss get a bit deeper into the human psyche and pose the question ‘What is Your Capacity for Darkness?' This discussion touches on a range of examples including the Milgram Experiment and other examples which show that our capacity to inflict pain, suffering and death on others would suggest that the dark side of us is closer to the surface than we might want to admit. The question is ‘What flips the switch to cause that dark side to emerge?' Is it just about the influence of authority figures or the risk of being excluded from the group that causes us to go from being decent and caring human beings to being directly involved or complicit in dark behaviours.? It's a wide ranging chat and there are some uncomfortable truths discussed but, as always, the guys challenge our thinking of what we see as reasonable or normal. So, listen up and enjoy!
“You can’t have healthy relationships unless your relationship with yourself is healthy first. Self-awareness, self-reflection, self-care, and the mindsets around your value are the foundation of any type of positive relationship.” -Leah JM Dean There are many forms of relationships: parent-child, husband-wife, employer-employee, caregiver, friend, and more. A variety of feelings come with having and maintaining any relationships. But it seems that specifically complicated is relationships happening with women and between women. This episode is for you if you are one of my lady listeners or if you're a man who loves a lady or is raising a young lady. Is it possible to make better and deeper connections with women? Is it okay to have "necessary conversations" to determine the health and maintenance of a relationship? Do we have a limited capacity for a certain number or depth of relationships? Is it really possible to make healthy, mutually beneficial, lifelong connections with other women? My expert guest today, Leah JM Dean, a Tribe Formation Expert, answers these questions and discusses her formula to deepen our relationship with ourselves, our friends (especially between women), family, and more. Leah Dean has created a simple, but very powerful formula for building a tribe that stands the test of time. In her soon to be released book "Assemble the Tribe: Believe in Your Value. Find Belonging. Be Different." Leah shares her trademarked formula based on proprietary research and shows us how to shift our mindset by first discovering the value that we bring to every connection we make. In this first episode of our four-part series on leadership blind spots, John Maxwell, Mark Cole, and Richard Chancy define what a leadership blind spot is. Can leaders see their own blind spots? What indicators can leaders examine to identify and understand their own blind spots? Every leader has at least one blind spot, and the greater a leader’s influence, the greater the effect of that blind spot. For transformational leaders, one of the most profound assets for growth is an external perspective on one’s own leadership. Such a perspective allows us examine the areas in which we are not intuitive. But no leader can identify his/her blind spot alone. After all, it is called a blind spot. Identifying a blind spot requires consulting those around you for honest feedback. In this series, Mark asks a great question for those whom you lead and those who lead you: “What’s it like being on the other side of me?” Our BONUS resource for the “Blind Spot” series is a worksheet on blind spots which you can fill in as you listen to each episode. Visit MaxwellPodcast.com/blindspots and click the "Bonus Resource" button to receive this worksheet as a PDF download.
