Vous écoutez Dig Dig Diggers, le magazine des radios Ferarock ! Cette semaine Morgane de Radio Primitive a interviewé Th Da Freak à l'occasion de leur cinquième album. Sautant d'une humeur à l'autre, Th Da Freak revient avec un disque profondément humain qui titille involontairement le statut d'instant classic. Prenant pour totem le coquin canin, héros farceur des contes amérindiens, qu'on a connu ici en cartoon malheureux, ce nouveau récit musical est celui d'un artiste qui bouillonne, dévoré par le feu qui l'anime et ses contradictions qu'il accepte enfin d'embrasser. Puis, Youthstar et Miscellaneous viendront présenter leur EP en collaboration au micro de Kristina de Radio Ballade. L'EP Stranger Times est né entre confinements, manifestations et émeutes. La richesse de ce projet puise en effet dans cette période particulière d'effervescence incertaine traversée par une foule d'émotions dissonantes telles que la colère, la panique, ou encore la confusion. Youthstar & Miscellaneous se sont saisis de ces situations et tentent à travers les différents tracks de cet EP d'en exprimer certaines facettes. Pour clôturer le magazine de cette semaine, Matthieu de Ouest Track nous parlera du lancement des sélections pour les iNOUïS du Printemps de Bourges, premier dispositif national de repérage de nouveaux talents !
Qui se cache derrière ce nom, Chinese Man, figure mystique à la fois omnipotente et invisible ? Pourquoi et comment, depuis plus de 15 ans, reconnaît-on toujours sa signature alors même que sa musique est multiple ? Pour le savoir, je me suis invitée à Marseille, dans les locaux de Chinese Man Records, juste avant le concert du groupe Chinese Man à la Fiesta des Suds. Chinese Man, "l'homme chinois" en français, a trois têtes : Sly, Mateo et High Ku. Trois têtes bien faites qui se sont connues à Aix-en-Provence à l'heure où certains vont à l'université. Trois passionnés de cinéma, de musiques et de danse qui, au début des années 2000, à Marseille, avec d'autres de leurs amis, ont monté le collectif Chinese Man Records. Aujourd'hui, Chinese Man, ce sont deux albums (Racing with the Sun en 2011 et Shikantaza, en 2017), des projets en solo (BOLD, Matteo, Rumble) etde nombreux projets collectifs comme les compilations The Groove Sessions (avec des artistes maison tels que Youthstar, Taiwan MC ou ASM) qui puisent leurs influences dans le hip hop, le trip-hop, mais aussi le dub, l'électro ou encore le reggae. Pour célébrer les 15 ans du collectif devenu label, producteur et tourneur, Chinese Man a invité deux autres groupes de la famille Chinese Man Records, Scratch Bandit Crew et Baja Frequencia, a composé le 5e volume de ses The Groove Sessions. L'occasion d'un nouveau live festif et audacieux (c'est leur marque de fabrique), que les Chinese Man ont pris un malin plaisir à jour à domicile pour fêter les 30 ans d'une autre aventure marseillaise et musicale qui les a vu grandir et les a souvent programmés : la Fiesta des Suds. Parce que je ne pouvais pas rater les anniversaires de ces institutions marseillaises, je me suis invitée, avant leur concert à la Fiesta des Suds, chez les Chinese Man. With the closing chapter of 2012 having ushered in no fewer than three chart-topping releases from high-flying Xilent, we thought it only right to present the latest AudioPorn podcast hosted by a group of artists set to make serious waves now in 2013. The collective have been steadily climbing to the summit of the scene, culminating with a number 1 spot on Beatport's coveted DnB chart with the anthemic 'Talk To Me' released on Mainframe Recordings at the close of last year, they are now ready to unleash their second EP on AudioPorn. Hailing from Toulouse, Gauvain Fargeot aka Dilemn has come a long way in becoming the prominent figure in the French underground electronic scene he is today. Having been brought up surrounded by classical music and its influences, Dilemn engaged himself with a wide range of music from the aggression of Hip-Hop and Drum & Bass to the synthesised qualities of Techno before finding his comfort zone in Electro at the age of 22. Exposing and condensing all of these influences in creating his signature sound, Dilemn's music combines crunchy beats and slick warm electro lines into pumping melodies that take inspiration from and evolve the French House sound popularised by acts such as Daft Punk and Justice. Dilemn's career as a producer began with the release of the ‘Phyzicall / Check My Beat' 12” in 2007, which was followed up immediately by two more supreme releases, ‘Daylight' / ‘Time To Sing' and The Baguette EP with Les Petits Pilous later that year. All three releases were prime examples of Dilemn's technically assured and confident sound, showing off the serious talent that this young, promising producer had to offer the scene. 2010 was a huge year for Dilemn as the producer unleashed his first full-length album, Better Worlds on Bordeaux-based imprint Boxon. Thirteen tracks-full featuring a plethora of France's foremost underground talent including Youthstar, Blake & Wonderkat, Miss Trouble and Kloe, Better Worlds was given outstanding reviews that drew obvious comparisons to the works of the aforementioned Daft Punk. In the following months, not one to rest on his laurels, Dilemn released another EP on Burn The Fire with the stomping ‘Audio Control' / ‘Got U' which paired the producer with The Clamps (aka Imprintz). He continued to flex his production muscle having been approached to remix Porter Robinson's and Lazy Rich's Hello for Big Fish as the standout track on Part 2 of the remix EP, whilst Boxon continued to promote DIlemn's emphatic debut LP with a 7-track remix package that garnered radio support from luminaries such as Annie Nightingale, Kissy Sell Out and Far Too Loud. 2012 is set to cement Dilemn's glowing domestic reputation on our shores as the artist moves forward in experimenting with unfamiliar tempo territories. After causing damage in the underground Electro scene for over a decade this young producer is about to take the international stage, presenting his debut release on AudioPorn with a monster 5-track multi-genre EP that pushes tempo boundaries: the Talk About Us EP. Featuring the embellished hybrid arrangements of ‘Watts Of Funkin', ‘Two Points', ‘Kill The Nation' and ‘Afraid Of Change', plus the vocal talents of songstress de jour Ayah Marar on the titular ‘Talk About Us', the EP sees the producer retain the slick production qualities and accomplished melodic arrangements he has built his career on whilst offering something resoundingly different to the previous Dilemn back-catalogue. A colourful and painstakingly detailed layer of sounds that waver on the brink of perplexed amalgamation without losing sense of that all important funk, the EP offers a simultaneous danger and optimism that flirts with classic French House vibes.
