The 5D Podcast Specials are coming thick and fast at the moment with the the first of what will be a two-part interview with legendary voice actor Yuri Lowenthal. Yuri an American voice actor, producer and screenwriter known chiefly for his work in cartoons, anime and video games, as you'll see and hear he is also a fantastic interviewee. Some of his most well-known roles in animation and anime include, Jinnosuke in Afro Samurai and Ben Tennyson in Ben 10. In the world of video games, he voices Peter Parker/Spider-Man, The Prince in Prince of Persia, Matt Miller in Saints Row and Joseph Oda in The Evil Within……and believe me when I say this, but that list is barely even scratching the very top part of the surface of his body of work. If all that wasn't enough, he has a production company, Monkey Kingdom Productions, with his wife, fellow actor Tara Platt, where they have produced several feature films and a fabulous live action web series called Shelf Life. Also, in his quest to corner all pop culture production into his own base of power and dominion, he has co-authored the book Voice-Over Voice Actor. This week's podcast episode is something of a delight - a special edition that sees a collaboration between our good selves (well, minus 5D co-host Zack, who unfortunately had unavoidable obligations elsewhere) and the The Sydney Science Fiction Film Festival (SSFFF) https://www.sydneysciencefictionfilmfestival.com.au - Australia's newest celebration of sci-fi and fantasy genre film. Simon Foster & Travis Johnson REALLY know their stuff when it comes to their country's genre heritage; Simon is the festival director of SSFFF, the managing director of www.screen-space.net and also the co-host of the Screen Watching Podcast. If that wasn't enough he's also a film industry journalist with over 30 years experience as a reviewer and broadcaster. Travis is a steering committee member of the SSFFF (in 2020 he hosted a live-stream panel on the Cyberpunk sub-genre. He's the co-host on the Screen Watching Podcast and also the founder of Celluloid and Whiskey website. If that wasn't enough he also reviews for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, among many others. To say recording this episode was an enjoyable experience would be a certain understatement - because not only does it feature some chat with two hugely knowledgable guys from SSFFF, but it also features a surprise guest appearance from an icon of Australian (and indeed worldwide) genre cinema.....who for now shall remain nameless. Yes, I know......I'm just one big tease. If all that wasn't enough there's a little self-indulgent (not like us, right?!) chat about some exciting collaborations and interviews coming up soon on the website and podcast. Well, I'm excited at least :-) In the main review section this week we discuss the quite frankly bonkers brilliant Sweet Tooth fantasy pandemic animal-hybrid thing (yep, that's correct). While it’s genuinely not our intention to do so, it could be that we upset a fair number of people today as your hosts look at two behemothic (is that really a word?) releases this week. Because ladies and gentlemen! In the red corner we have the highly anticipated (and that’s an understatement!) release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League....... And in the Blue corner we have the 2nd new Marvel TV series appearing on Disney +, The Falcon and the winter soldier. Oh, and about ‘the upsetting people thing’......well yeah, we kind of really, really, really disliked one of them. A lot! BEWARE, THERE BE SPOILERS CONTAINED WITHIN THE PODCAST! In the 5DNEWS section today there’s a bit of a Machine Gun Kelly vibe going on as news about his planned graphic novel, Hotel Diablo emerges as well as news about MGK (as we kids on the street refer to him) grouping up with game content creation for new music. There’s also a quick mention about some leaked titbits about the forthcoming S10 of American Horror Story. Also in the news there’s another addition to the Leeds United celeb watch as a bone fide boxing legend publishes a pic while wearing the famous white shirt. There’s also more LUFC news relating to another icon passing with the announcement yesterday that Peter Lorimer had died at the age of 74. We always love to hear from the foolhardy souls who listen to this podcast so feel free to send any views, comments, questions, criticisms (hopefully not), or outright proclamations of love and adoration in the comments section below or directly via the 5D Website at 5d-blog.com. It’s something of a personal nostalgic beginning to the news this week as we lament on the passing of two giants of our sporting lives - Formula 1 Commentator Murray Walker and Boxing legend Marvelous Marvin Hagler. There’s also chat about another celebrity unboxing of Leeds United merchandise as well as a look ahead to the much anticipated arrival of Zack Snyder’s Justice League as well as the next in line for the Marvel TV treatment, The Falcon & the Winter Soldier. The main reviews this week are the 2020 Megan Fox appearance as a battle-hardened mercenary (no really) in Rogue, plus the 2019 Drug Cartel action type thing Miss Bala. This episode of the 5D Podcast is brought to you by Guardian, the soon to be released Sci-fi short film from Germany. When the artificial intelligence in control of a military space station ( E.L.I. ) decides to launch an unprovoked, all-out nuclear strike on an enemy nation, it is up to the AI’s creator and a maintenance technician to stop it from annihilating half the globe. Guardian is not just an action-packed film about a military AI gone haywire, it’s also an emotional story about the maternal relationship between E.L.I. and his creator, Diane Colton, who considers him a surrogate for her own dead son, and uses that bond to help E.L.I. break out of his flawed programming. Guardian is short film that will set a new high-water mark for what is possible in its format. The finished short film will be released and screened at various festivals this year (2021). In the 5DNEWS there’s some chat about another set-back for the much vaunted new craft from SpaceX.....spoiler alert - it blew up. There’s also talk about the trailer & in game footage for the new Aliens: Fireteams video game as well as some reaction to the news that the upcoming Spider-Man movie may possibly be Tom Holland’s last outing as the friendly neighbourhood web-slinger. If that wasn't enough there's mention of yet another delay for the latest Fast & Furious film as well as discovering that LL Cool J is a Leeds United fan! In the main section of the show there is an abundance of love for the finale of WandaVision as well as sharing our, ahem, thoughts in the 2020 release of Greenland......watch out for that comet!!! We always love to hear from the foolhardy souls who listen to this podcast so feel free to send any views, comments, questions, criticisms (hopefully not), or outright proclamations of love and adoration in the comments section below or directly via the 5D Website at 5d-blog.com. In the 5DNEWS there’s a belated chat (due to the ‘no episode’ last week) about Stuart nerding out to the NASA Perseverance Mars landing a week or so ago. There’s also news about the recent updates to 5D website, which include a newly added sports section as well as a new Dungeons & Dragons section for the upcoming adventures of The Black Table! Yes that’s correct - I will soon be re-entering the world of D & D..... be warned! Zack brings things more up to date with some Spider-Man talk and the fall-out from the release of the Mortal Kombat trailer.......& apparently some fans are a little upset about the non-appearance of a certain titular character. If that wasn’t enough co-host Zack has more news of his new 3D modelling YouTube channel and website - the links for which can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCoTT9kdNvbRIR-qrYd87MUQ https://www.drft3d.com/ In the main section of the show there is an abundance of love for Ep8 of WandaVision as well as a review of sorts from the 2018 movie, Hotel Artemis - and incidentally a film that sounded familiar when it was suggested by co-host Zack that we watch it for this week’s episode. It turns out that the reason for the familiarity was that some mins into it I realised I had indeed seen it before.....but for the life of me couldn’t remember how it ended and so had to watch it all again. We always love to hear from the foolhardy souls who listen to this podcast so feel free to send any views, comments, questions, criticisms (hopefully not), or outright proclamations of love and adoration in the comments section below or directly via the 5D Website at 5d-blog.com. My dad always said that it takes a big man to admit when he’s wrong - well Stuart must then be HUGE (behave) because not only is he often wrong but recently he’s been completely way off the mark! We’re talking about him having to reappraise his opinion of WandaVision - because now, five episodes in........he’s loving it (insert a reference to a particular well-know burger chain as you see fit). Also, in the main review section there’s chat about the new drug cartel series, ZeroZeroZero. In the 5DNEWS (once the talk about the weather has finished) there’s chat about the latest SpaceX launch, Cillian Murphy being spotted in our part of the world, plus talk about the Sci-fi short film ‘Cognition’. The 5DNEWS is split into two distinct parts this week with first being 5D’s involvement the Wizard World online expo currently happening. This Friday I will be representing 5D on the Starship Trooper re-watch panel. Wizard World and myself will be attending the 45 minute event, where they’ll be sharing a number of clips clips from the panel and we nerd out over our love for the characters and the film/series. Of course I will no doubt shy away from talking about anything 5D related or even, perish the thought, talking about myself…… after all, that would be far too shallow of me…..wouldn’t it?!
